Alps outdoors dark timber, backpack the got this bag and there wasn’t anything on YouTube about it. That I could find so I thought I’d do a video, a quick this bag, it’s by Alps outdoors. Obviously it is 2285 cubic inches. That’s about thirty seven and a half liters! It’s like 37 4, something like that. I paid forty four dollars for it from Amazon. It went up to 48 dollars since I bought. It, though, and I will put a link in the description down there to this bag on Amazon I bought this bag.
For my girlfriend for our six-day hike on the superior trail here in Minnesota, because uh turns out, she doesn’t have anything when it comes to anything outdoors, go figure, anyways and just kind of then do a quick run down here. There’s the main compartment here, there’s a small, it’s rather small compartment right here. There’s one on the bottom, although this does not go to the inside of the pack like I was hoping it did so I’m, not sure what I’ll put in there.
Probably just a couple little goodies or something like that for her. But yeah. There are two mesh pockets, one on each side and they stretch out rather far so you can fit another decent size items in there. Let’s take a look at inside the bag, all right well here, actually before we do that turn this around the hip belt here very nicely padded, probably almost an inch of I want to say foam padding, but whatever it is, it is very soft, but yet it’s not like it doesn’t just compress right away.
It’s firm but comfortable and same thing with here. It’s a little bit thicker here. We also have some up here or against your back on both sides. Here, there’s also some of the straps underneath this mesh type of fabric. If you will there’s adjustable I, want to say chest belt, I guess you can call it and it goes from up here and it’s got about six inches or so of travel, which is enough for most people. It’s a large variety of people so- and it’s also got its adjustable right here, so you can have that and it’s got an elastic band on there, so it doesn’t if you’re bouncing around or whatnot it.
Doesn’t it’s not constantly back like dragging on you. If you will, it’s got a little bit of a little bit of give on it same not the same, but it built very nice strong buckle, it’s not coming apart easily I’m talking about I’m, pretty pretty firmly. It’s got compression straps on the sides to compress the bag out. Obviously, so you can make it really nice all the way goes diagonally down here too. So you can compress that and then pull that nice and tight like that to prevent your load from shifting inside your pack and throwing off balance.
So that’s pretty awesome, there’s also compression straps on the side here too, for these mesh pockets and the bottom most part of the bag. So I think that covers about the outside of the bag, the fabric, actually real, quick, the fabric, it’s not sure what type of fabric it is I can’t remember, but it says real tree on here and it’s very nice. It’s really really soft. It’s water-resistant sort of the water, just if it’s misting out you’re going to be fine if it’s raining, you’re definitely gonna want to, because this will absorb water.
Eventually, I poured a little bit of water on there and it kind of wiped off, but a little bit of it seeped in and then on these here on the inside of the pack as well. There’s this more water resistant fabric, similar to what you would find in, like a like one of those sacks that you put like your clothes and stuff in to keep them dry or whatever so and then it’s got the rain covers over the zippers. So that’s nice on all of them. So anyways, let’s take a look at the inside I’ve got to undo the compression straps here, make a little bit easier on the zippers to there’s a like a flexible type of rubber to grab onto to pull so you’re, not pulling on just the string and on the inside here there’s her sleeping bag, which is just an Alpine design.
Microlight terrain bag, it’s not far from the best, but you know it works, get a small mat for it that we just find because then I can be too terribly cold. There’s a pouch here, which is mainly designed for putting a water pouch like a like a water bladder in here and then the hole is for the tube comes out through here, but that’s probably not going to be used for that purpose. There there’s a mesh pocket on the inside of the rama outside, if you will I guess part of the bag here.
This only goes down about halfway, though, but it’s still pretty neat, you know. If you need something quick, you can put it in here, so you can see what everything you’ve got in there. So this pocket here pretty much the same thing. It’s just a boring a little pocket, although it does have a little clip in here for whatever you wanted it to be used for I, guess and then this down here this pouch here zippers up to the sides like that, and then it’s sewed it’s when the way it’s put together is the piece is folded and then stitched up here, and it allows it to expand outward without really stretching the bag itself like inward to come out like it makes sense, so you can put a decent amount of stuff in there more accessible items, so you can just whip your bag off quick grab, something out of here and good to go.
I! Think! That’s about it! Really all the bag itself by the way weighs two pounds, one ounce. So it’s it’s a very light bag now, I’m pretty sure. That’s it really. There’s a couple of obviously the obvious things. There’s a couple of these little hooks on here in case you want to hook a water bottle or a little bag, or something to it or your compass or your maps. If you got them in a little bag, you can hook them on here. You’ve got these two little elastic bands.
Here you put whatever you want in there use them for whatever there is nothing on the hip belt. If you really wanted to I suppose you can stitch a little pocket on here or something I bought it with it. It’s good enough, so not a bad back, considering she won’t have to carry a whole lot, just her sleeping stuff in our clothes food survival stuff. You know, first, aid kit, so yeah not a bad bag, for what I paid, definitely worth the money so anyways, that’s all I got for you guys, hope you enjoyed it any questions or comments.
Leave them in the section down there. I will put a link for this bag in the description down there, so you can take a look at it yourself and yeah more videos to come rather soon more on the backpacking series for this trip. So peace out and I will see you. The next video.

Hey my name is chris, with hunt fish cook uh here doing a review of a day pack that I bought about eight months ago. It’s the alps, outdoor z, pursuit um day pack and um. I’ve had this for about eight months now and uh been wanting to do a review for for a while, but I wanted to make sure I had enough hours under my belt enough trips on it to give a an honest review. So uh we’ve written an article about this uh pack, uh the good, the bad and um there’s only one real big con to it, but it’s a no holds barred review.
We’ll put the link to the review uh in the comments below uh, but thanks for watching and uh, we’ll go over um kind of my opinion on it, the different aspects of the bag and what I like and what I don’t like. Overall, it’s an awesome pack. If you have this, I’m not going to bash it, I don’t get paid. I didn’t get this pack for free. So this is not one of those things where um, where I’m getting a free bag and going to tell you how awesome it is afterwards. I bought it with uh with my own hard-earned money and uh and then put it through about six or seven trips, a full turkey season, and now I’m about a month and a half into deer season um and also did some uh over summer trips so appreciate y’all watching and we’ll go into it here, just a second okay, so uh without further ado.
Here we uh here we have our our pack. I just got back from a a trip up to the appalachian mountains and uh. I still have um some of the stuff packed in here, so I thought I would uh kind of show you how I had it set up and um and then go over the different points. So uh, the alps, outdoor z, is uh. 2 700 cubic inches um. I think that’s what 40! I have some notes over here: 44 liters uh, it’s about 21, inches high um 15 inches wide at the bottom and um. I think it’s about four pounds.
If I already said that um it’s overall uh, it’s it’s a little bit heavy of a pack, but I think that’s because of the fabric that it’s made out of, which is super quiet and all the different aspects that are uh that are on the pack, so um. As you can see here, I’ve got my uh my tripod set up on the outside. It’s kind of set back into the the gun and bow holder. So if you pull that off and get that out of there, you can see that this is the main outside of the pack here, and these two attachments right here are for your gun and bow holder.
I put my tripod on there. Uh I’ve got a hunting chair that fits on the outside, but a super cool aspect of this is that it has a gun and bow holder. Uh your gun goes in there and down here from the bottom, is the um kind of seat that you’re that your gun fits in? This was huge for me, uh with the hunting and the hiking that we do. I wanted something to be able to carry a gun and a bow for you know long distances as we as we’re walking. So this was a crucial aspect for me and at this price point in this size, I didn’t find many other bags that had this um, my gun fits awesome.
In there it’s secure, it doesn’t sit super high, it doesn’t sit super low, but as always, when you have a gun on your pack, you know if you’re trying to get under trees and different things like that um it it is a little bit cumbersome. The other cool thing about the bottom of this pack is a little zipper down here and it has a built-in rain slot. So it comes with it then costs extra um comes right out, sits on over the top and waterproofs your bag, while the bag is pretty waterproof anyway, um I haven’t scotch guarded it or anything.
I know some people online do but um having the rain fly on. There is pretty awesome. It is blaze orange. So you know online. Everyone complains about something. So obviously people complain about that. Why it’s you know, camouflage if it was camouflaged, they complained that it was uh, it wasn’t orange so anyway, I think it’s a really neat uh aspect to have um, so at 2700 cubic inches, it’s a big day pack, it’s kind of a mid-sized pack as uh down here. This is my small pack, which I’ve hunt with a lot.
This is basically just a waste pack um with some shoulder straps on it. So this is my super light and then I’ve got uh. Then I’ve got this to move up and then after this I go to more of a expedition more of a backpacking pack. So um this thing is pretty awesome. So one of the uh coolest features of this bag is this front compartment. Here it is a um, it’s kind of a zip down compartment that is actually a shelf that has these stays that support it. So it doesn’t over open, uh kind of locks it in here uh.
It’s almost like a little tray and of course it has all of the neat little spots in here. I’ve got some thermocell fuel in here ammunition. Some little tools. You know that you do need from time to time a lanyard for your keys. This really gets the most use out of anything I have on this pack when I get up into a tree. I hang hang the pack on the d-ring open this up, and this is where I, you know kind of keep those things that you need and you need to get to pretty quick super awesome part use it all the time.
So really neat um. We talk about packing meat uh. This is not made to pack meat out um. I do have some game bags that you can pack out uh quartered whitetail with, if you’re looking at something to pack out elk or things like that. This is not your bag um, but you can put um. You know your me in game bags and put it in the main, uh part or strap back here where you have all these extra straps. You can pack out if you need to, but I would suggest something bigger next up is a lot of questions is.
Can you use this as an overnight bag and you can um? You know if weather is good and um you’re packing super light. You definitely can fit stuff in here. You can strap sleep bags on and things to the outside I mean you can make it an overnight bag. Depending on how brave you are um, if you got some cold weather and some different things like that, I would say that you need something a little bit bigger so on the sides. This is the quiver holder for your uh for arrows here, um and, of course, this kind of goes back onto the side here, so you can strap things.
Tripods can fit here anything else. You have larger size that can fit in here. Of course, your mesh pockets for bottles of water or things can fit down in there and strap onto the sides same thing over here on this side, I’ve got a book call in here. So obviously this is the same as any other pack that you would have. You got a bunch of mollies and a bunch of attachments and a bunch of cords and lashings that you can strap onto so um super versatile on the outside.
I’m going around to the back uh the d-ring that you can hang your tree on. This is hydration compatible, so I’ve got a two liter um hydration bladder that fits in there comes out of the top and here’s the little clip for your uh. You know for your tube uh works, pretty cool uh, the sierra designs bladder did not fit in it. So uh go with you know, maybe a camelback or something like that. The the clips did not fit the sierra designs, one so uh. It’s got a single aluminum stay that gives stability plenty of padding on the back and we’ll get here to the main part.
So main body of the bag is just a big old. Just a big old section on the inside. You can zip fully down here. I’ve got some camera gear in here, um, sidearms and uh. This is the main pocket of the bag. 27 cubic inch, 100 cubic inches, and I mean it’s big. I fit everything I need in there from rain gear to food, a small camp stove for a full day. You know out um, you know goodness dude I mean there’s nothing. I can’t really fit in here um, but sometimes I pack too much stuff in it and in those cases I like to go down to my smaller bag.
But this lets me carry everything that I need to for a full day out in the mountains, all right. It’s quiet, it’s kind of a soft, it’s polyester, but it is um, it’s almost a felt feeling to it. So it is quiet. I can hear my um water inside my black, the the drinking bladder inside there when I’m, when I’m in the woods. So I would say all in all: it’s got good marks for being quiet, um and now let me get to the thing that I don’t like about. This pack is uh on the waist belt.
We’ve got these side uh these little side, pockets. Here um. There are two of them, one on either side and as you can see on this one um I mean I keep um. I keep my headlamp in one and uh this one. I think I have a wind detector and um a multi-tool. So when I got this bag, these two things were the things that got me pretty fired up. I didn’t like them when, when I put the pack on my arms are by my side, they they rub and they hit these um these little pockets and compartments so um I called alps, try to see if I could buy another belt without them.
They did not have that at this time they said they might have it in the future. The belt is removable, so you can get the whole thing off there and um and not have that happen. They are not removable except with scissors, so I’ve been using it for eight months. They bother me, but not as much as I thought I haven’t cut them off yet, but um I might, but really that is the biggest con. Are these things on the side if alps can make a belt uh that doesn’t have these that I can just pack on and stick in here it’s kind of a velcro attachment if they make one of those I’ll be I’ll, be set and happy so um with all that being said, uh, it’s a great pack.
Uh the weight is pretty good. It’s quiet, it does everything you need as a daypack should um and it’s got lots of little cool bells and whistles that are on there. Uh very few of these packs have a gun rifle or a bow holder. So this has that um, it’s got some of the parts of a big expedition bag that you would like, but still keeps it down on that day pack size. So I hope this review helped you guys we’ll put some links to the articles and the things that we we uh we buy for it or that we use down below, and we appreciate your time.
Thank you.
You know a pack is one of the most essential pieces of gear. A hunter and an outdoorsman can have it’s probably not as important to that Midwestern hunter who hunts you know, maybe a couple hundred acre farm, but for those of you that trek out west and you have millions of acres to your leisure, you know what what you have in your pack might just save your life.
Always have your pack with you, never leave it anywhere. Have it with you at all times, picking the right pack for your own, desired style and needs is not an easy task and there’s never going to be one perfect pack for each situation. There’s only going to be the perfect pack for that situation. At that time. That being said, having numerous packs to cover numerous situations is the perfect way to go.
Alps outdoors has a numerous line of packs and they’re all available at Sportsman’s Warehouse during the spring of the year, as well as this early fall season. We’ve put a bunch of these packs to the test. The Big Bear, this fanny pack, / date. Pack combination is a great pack for those early season trips. When your early morning, temps aren’t exactly cold, which puts you in a situation where you will be carrying a lot of clothes as the day heats up as a fanny pack.
It has an 800 cubic inch, main pocket, which is great for lunches, spotting scope, radios, knives and maybe your rain gear outside pockets are ideal for your rangefinders calls or anything else that you might need easy access to. It also comes equipped with a mesh water bottle pocket which will hold most standard Nalgene bottles. The shoulder harness helps to distribute weight evenly from the waist the shoulders as you see fit, it can also be removed if you would like to reduce the weight or just want to use it specifically as a fanny pack.
What makes this pack so diverse is its ability to expand by simply unzipping the top compartment and expanding the pack. You gain access to an additional 1902 peak inches, which is clearly fastened to the shoulder harness with a couple of clips. This gives you a 2700 cubic inch day pack, which is just under two and a half pounds. I, absolutely love this pack from our early season shed hunting in the spring and fall animal hunting like we’re doing now.
Pursuit daypack is a 4 1, pound 2 700 cubic inch day pack, which has the ability to securely carry your bow or rifle. This option is great when you are leaving the trail head long before shooting light and will be climbing several thousand feet of vertical or just doing a lot of distance to get you away from the crowds. A magnetic, secure pocket holds the piece that your bow or rifle sits into, and the two straps secure your weapon to the load when packing.
Once you reach your destination, you can quickly remove your weapon and secure the pocket out of the way. This pocket also fits the hind quarter of an antelope or medium sized ear, and the securing straps hold the legs close to the pack I’m sure this pocket wasn’t designed for this, but it helps to getting game out of the field and it works. The pursuit is hydration compatible and has one large main compartment and one smaller outside pocket with numerous organizational pouches inside of it.
There are two mesh water bottle pockets on each side of the pack, and the waist belt has zipper pockets on each side, which is a great place to store when Decatur’s calls GPS or cell phones the waist belt, and shoulder harness have great adjustability, which will fit nearly anyone and the load lifters are an added benefit on a day pack. After you end up being successful in the field.
The fluorescent orange rain cover is a great benefit for those rainy days or if you decide to leave your pack somewhere for the final stock, it will be much easier to find them. The camouflage bag the matrix day pack is a new addition to the Alpes line. It has some very similar features to the pursuit pack, but the big difference is the weapons securing system.
It is truly one of the best systems on the market for carrying a crossbow on a pack. The stalker camp pockets pull out of the magnetic secured pocket in the pack. Just like the pursuit. The padded straps secure around the upper portion of the stock and the wing pockets help to secure it into the pack as well. It works equally well as carrying your rifle and it will work for your bow, but I personally prefer the pursuit pack and the securing system for my bow hunting needs.
As with the pursuit, this pack is a 2 700 cubic inch pack to tip the scale at 4 1 pounds it is hydration compatible and has one large main compartment with organ or pockets sewn into the inside. The wing pockets on the outside are a great place to store your rain gear or game bags which provide added padding around your weapon stock. The matrix also has the same fluorescent orange rain cover included, which tucks away into its own little pocket at the bottom of the pack.
You know in all of our field testing every one of these packs performed absolutely flawlessly the best part about these packs they’re not going to break the bank. You could buy all three of these packs for what it might cost you to buy one pack of a different brand and remember you’re. Never just one pack for every situation, you’re going to need different packs for different situations, so it just makes sense to stop by your local sports ins of wire house and pick up all three of these packs.
Christmas is just around the corner. They’d make a great gift idea for any sportsman in your life.

This is our Big Bear lumbar pack, it’s an oversized lumbar pack with a shoulder harness and waist belt. One of its key features is an expandable day pack section which unzips in this top pocket. You unroll it and then it clips into two buckles located on the shoulder harness. The lumbar pack is approximately 800 cubic inches in the expandable day.
Pack section is 1 900 cubic inches, so it does give you a lot of extra space when you deploy the expandable day pack section. Another key feature with this pack would be a front organizational pocket. It also has extra lashing points for any additional gear. The side has a water bottle, mesh pocket and then another or the other side has an additional side pocket for extra gear.
The waist belt has two pockets and is padded for extra support. The shoulder, strap or waist belt could be completely removable just to help with weight. The Big Bear is also compatible with our accessory pockets. You connect those through buckles located on the shoulder harness and then on the sides of the waist belt, and that is our Big Bear pack.
This is the pursuit pack in the outside doors line. This pack can do a magnitude of things, but it’s really designed for the whitetail hunter. One of the key features of this pack is this drop down shelf this. This front pocket has a hard PE sheet in here, so it keeps it rigid and then, through this, these straps here you’re able to make it perform like a shelf.
So you can see here there’s plenty of organizational pockets here for anything like to throw my binoculars on here or any quick access gear. I might mean another nice feature on this is for bow hunting. You can attach your quiver to the side of the pack through this strap here in this strap here to secure it.
So that way, if you want it to lose some weight on your bow, you can attach your quiver to the side of the pack, and that goes for both sides, depending on which side you’re hanging your pack from another nice feature is the drop down pocket for your bow or your rifle, and then you, you secure it by these are by this lashing system.
Up top. Here, you’re filling up the 2 700 cubic inch capacity of this pack there’s additional place to attach gear on the outside. It has 2 side mesh pockets, great for water bottle or other gear. It has two waist belt pockets located at the front and on the side of the waist belt for easy access, you’ll notice on the waist belt.
It accommodates clip style holsters for carrying a sidearm. The pack also includes a rain cover located at the bottom. There is a center aluminum stay located inside the main compartment, which helps keep the pack rigid and easier to carry heavier weight. This pack is hydration compatible, so there will be a bladder sleeve located on the inside of the main compartment, and then it has a port on top and the pursuit actually has a clip for your hoes as well.
The sacrifice LS is one of the bigger packs in the Badlands lineup, coming in at 3400 cubic inches of storage. The sacrifice LS is a top loader, so your main compartment is going to be where most your storage is found. The LS is equipped to carry both a bow and rifle on the pack, so the rifle boot is going to be included with your pack and its own zippered compartment drop down.
You can also click that out and clip in the Badlands bow boot accessory. Badlands Pursuit backcountry hunting backpack
- Zipper closure
- 15″ shoulder drop
- VENTILATED FOR COMFORT – With Badlands’ AirTrack technology, we build channels into the foam suspension so air can effectively pass between your body and your pack. In addition, we use a breathable mesh over the foam as another layer of comfort and ventilation.
- KXO-32 FABRIC – After 31 attempts at creating the ultimate hunting fabric, we nearly gave up. Turns out 32 tries was the charm. Badlands’ KXO-32 fabric is tough, waterproof, incredibly quiet, and lightweight, too. But we didn’t stop there with the Pursuit. Badlands’ C6 Durable Water Repellent (DWR) treatment doesn’t allow moisture to seep into fabrics. Water beads and rolls off, keeping your gear dry, longer.
- BELLS & WHISTLES – It wouldn’t be Badlands if it weren’t loaded with the features hunters need. The Pursuit sports 5 pockets to keep everything organized on the hunt, plus multiple rear compression and bedroll straps so you can carry more gear. This pack fits Badlands’ 3 liter hydration reservoir.
- APPROACH FX CAMO – Groundbreaking concealment technology meets a darker color palette to render hunters virtually invisible. Designed for the Midwest or Eastern hunter, as well as late-season Western hunters, this dark woods Camo adapts to your surroundings AND the current lighting.
- UNCONDITIONAL LIFETIME WARRANTY – Badlands’ gear is built so tough that we can promise to fix it for free, forever, no matter who roughed it up. We could care less if you bought it at a garage sale or a gear swap, as long as it says Badlands, it’s covered. All we ask is that you use and abuse your pack as much as possible so we can learn how to make our products even better.

Lineup for a long time and has undergone a few changes. As always, we pay a ton of attention to our suspension system so that you’re, the most comfortable you can be out in the field. The super day carries almost like a frame pack because of the way we’ve designed and executed. This suspension system you’ll find our channeled molded foam on the back and the waist belt, which is going to conform to your body, shape over time and only become more and more comfortable.
It’s also going to allow you to carry that weight down on your hips and get it up off your shoulders, like a good backpack should do talking about pocket configuration. You’re gonna have one big main pocket and some smaller organizational pockets both on the outside and on the inside of the pack. We’ll also have a very accessible hip belt pocket and a pocket on the waist belt itself down inside there between the waist belt pocket and the waist belt itself. You’ll also find our built-in Universal, handgun, holsters and you’ll have that on either side.
Also inside the pack, you are hydration compatible with its own pocket. That is ready for a three liter hydration reservoir. The super day also features a small batwing design. That’s going to give you that rear compression you’ll have those two straps that will help you strap gear and also a rifle or bow to the back of your pack in conjunction with those two straps you’re going to use the included rifle bo boot to support either the cam of your boat or the butt of your rifle and strap it up.
The back using those compression straps, also flipping back around the super day pack is now compatible with the bino Connect system, which is gonna. Allow you to lose the shoulder straps from your vinyl case and connect it directly to the super day pack. One of the big changes is: we’ve switched to our kxo 50 fabric. A lot of research and development led us to a new fabric that is quieter lighter, but just as strong as the kxo 30 – you’ve come to love over the years.
The latest version of the super day is bound to be and stay the best carrying day pack on the market and, as always, everything with that Red Bull skull is going to be covered by our unconditional lifetime. Warranty.
What’s up everybody coming to you live the mail I wanted to share it with you. This is the badlands pursuit pack. This was gonna, be my primary treestand pack for the upcoming year. The reason that I did, that is because it’s 1500 cubic inches. It’s got five compartments in it and it comes in at 1, pound, 8 ounces that numbers matched up for me. I thought it was going to be a really good fit, but let’s take a little closer look at the pack.
If you come around starting here at the back, you’ve got the two main compartments here: bedroll straps, to side packs for your water bottle coming around it’s a typical badlands air, Trac suspension with molding I think they call this internal decks, but it’s kind of a no-nonsense. Pant pack put this on. You can see. It’s just got the two main straps here: you’ve got a nice adjustable chest buckle which I really like put that on cinch it down, and that’s it you’re ready to go.
Looking for the side, kind of nice low profile, look in the back its mossy or breakup infinity when I worded. It was supposed to be real treat, so that was a little bit disappointing, but haven’t looked at how the pack looks on the back. Let’s go inside. Take a quick look at the a little bit more detailed view what you get when you get this thing all right guys here, we are inside all set up ready to take a quick look at this pack and do a more detailed view of the pack starting off on the back side or the front side, depending on how you’re looking at it, we’ve got the compression straps here all right, you can put a bow, a bow in this.
It will hold it opening it up like so you have a compartment here. You got to kind of lift this flap up, it’s a little bit more of a difficult zipper to get to, but you can see that when you open this up, not a whole lot of room in this compartment, setting that back down and zipping it back up, move along to the top, and you have another compartment located here. The zipper goes down this far open this up. We’ve got a pretty nice organizational pouch here, a zipper with a mesh folder I like to put my licenses in there.
It’s kind of a nice feature. The badlands has zipping up the second. The third main three main compartments come up here again. Really nice thing that badlands does they try to keep their zippers as water-resistant as possible, flip this open to access the main compartment here. One thing you do have to do: you have to open up these compression straps to get this compartment completely open. Looking down in here, you have your hydration bladder folder.
Here you can see the hanger it is accessible through here. Only that was one thing, I’m a little disappointed in on most Badlands packs. You have the option and running it out either the left or the right side. This one is only on the left side, but you can kind of see here how much storage you’re getting again there’s it’s just a main open, 1500 cubic inch, total total pack um one good part about this pack that I do like. If you look at these compression straps when you open these up you’re getting quite a bit of bang for your buck, like I, said it’s 1500 cubic inches, which isn’t bad one thing: I was a little bit disappointed in I, don’t know if you can hear it, but if you’re moving this around- and you can stuff out of here- it’s pretty noisy this material on the inside on the outside of the bag.
I’m scratching that with my fingernail, is really nice and quiet. But, like I said you open this up, and we’ve got to do something rustling around in here, hopefully you’re set, but there are times when we have to get in there and grab something. So this is a little noisy, I guess out of five I, probably rate this 3 out of 5 stars very simple pack, not a whole lot of whole lot of special features. But if you’re looking for something, that’s just throw my gear in and go it’s not bad.
So again, Badlands pursuit.
Be the million dollar question as to what’s the perfect pack so doing some research from searching. I come up with this for this year, so the badlands pursuit a couple reasons I went with it number one my single stick inside on hunt. So I’m minimalist, I don’t carry a lot of stuff in I’m trying to keep everything as light as possible. A lot of the packs I looked at were three four five six pounds.
This pack is only a pound. I think pound 14 ounces. I don’t carry a bunch of gear, so I don’t need a bunch of space. I don’t plan on meat hauling, so I really just wanted a small pack. They could get all my gear into it, keep everything nice lightweight and compact. So I went with this a couple reasons for that and then another thing was their lifetime unconditional warranty.
I think that’s pretty awesome. They stand behind their product. They vow to fix it for life, no matter what happens to it, so that’s hard to find in anybody anymore. So just unboxing this thing to look at it and kind of go from there. Another selling point for me was they do first responder discounted pricing, so it’s um, I think 40 off. So I think I got the pack for 69 99, so I’m not trying to spend three four hundred dollars on the pack, so we’re gonna go over it real quick.
This is the first time I put eyes on it, put hands on it and you just watch me unbox. It kind of see what I think size wise. I need to be able to get my ridge runner in it a single stick in it, maybe some camera gear and then like some outer clothing during the cold season in the late season, so kind of see how that packs up. I’m going to take a quick peek at this see how I can fit things in it and then we’ll come back on the camera and actually see what it looks like.
So I was looking I’d only found two reviews out there. Um one was from g2 and he said the inner liners were too noisy and he didn’t like the flap over the zipper um, and I found that review twice. Two people saying that so I don’t know if they copied each other or what so we’ll kind of go from there, but those I get the flap over the zipper. It’s obviously trying to keep rain out of that zipper.
So I can appreciate that so the inner liner, I don’t know, see what it looks like here. I don’t plan on being on the inside of it. Like all the time. I can see what he’s saying if you scratch your fingernails on it, there obviously is some noise there. So I don’t think I’m gonna sit here and try to play guitar like that up in the tree stand either.
So there’s plenty of straps plenty of pockets, quite a bit of storage here so see. I got my single stick. My ridge runner we’ll see how easy it’s going to be to put those in there it’s first off, just ridge runner. I think the front compartment would not work so there ridge, runner up will fit pretty easily right in the main. Compartment has no troubles at all.
It fits in there perfect, like that. I mean, if that’s something we want to do, you can do it that way, nice cinch straps to be able to tighten everything back down, keep everything taut, I’m just gonna, throw my saddle and all my rope here in this front compartment just to take up some space and see something I normally would wear my saddle, but just put my saddle in there just to kind of take up some space.
So there’s saddle on my rope ridge runner’s in the main compartment, and I think it looks like we could probably just put the stick right on this front. Put our single stick on right there. So there is at least bridge runners in the main platform. My saddle all my ropes in that second compartment, my sticks on the front. This is kind of a quick overview, real quick just my first impression I mean I think it’s going to work pretty well, it’s got like a nice suspension.
It looks like on your back, hopefully keep it off my back a little bit kind of let some air get through there and breathe, so maybe not get quite so sweaty. So I’m heading back to the truck here. This is uh after checking the first camera. This is the absolute first time I’ve worn this badlands pursuit and uh. I said I’m carrying my ridge runner in there a single stick and then my side on all my ropes, so at least my weight compared to what I’m going to carry for one season.
That’s pretty much. All I’m gonna have other than a little bit of miscellaneous gear, so I will say the straps they’re wide enough thick enough they’re padded enough super comfortable, no weight on my shoulders at all. The chest. Strap takes a lot of the load off there. You know helps hold that it does not have a waste rail. So if you’re wanting something with the waist belt, this would not be for you unless you want to try to mod it at it.
But overall right now, my first impression I really like it for a minimum setup all right. So yesterday we unboxed this badlands pursuit. Uh used our gear kind of went out check some cameras, definitely like the pack. So today I want to see. Can I fit everything in this that I need so I’m single sticking, ridge, runner and then basically inside the pack? I’m nothing crazy.
Here, got a kill kit, grunt, tube rangefinder, head lamp, extra flashlight, small pair of binoculars, camera arm, camera base, camera and mic black racks, cold weather gear. So some gloves, gator beanie face mask, I use a hand muff when it’s cold out and then just I’ll probably be able to put my outer outer layer jacket in there I’ll wear, usually where my bibs on the way in so that’s kind of what I need to be able to carry and we’re gonna see if we can pack all that in this pack and see how it works all right.
So real quick before we try to stuff all of our gears back we’ll just go over real, quick, it’s design and pocket layout. So first thing I will know that it’s not a frame pack, but it does have like uh. It’s almost like a foam board across the back. That does give it not so much rigidity, but it does give it some structure to the back of it. So straps are nice and padded plenty wide chest.
Strap gives plenty of adjustment there. So, overall it feels pretty good pocket layout. So once our main pocket is our one big pocket, let’s have a hydration bladder in the back. The loops hooks to hang that hydration pack only does come out on the left side of the pack on your left. Shoulder there’s, not an option to come out the right side without that good size.
Pocket, though next pocket coming forward, is another good sized, deep pocket and then does have a separate mesh pocket zipper pocket there on the front of it on this and then the very front we do have. We do have another pocket on the very front exterior. That goes all the way: the full depth lashing straps on the front, lashing straps on the top sides.
You also have lashes traps on the bottom, which I think that might be where I try to put my one. Stick we’ll see how that works. So that’s the pockets there. Then each side has got a good size pocket on the side. It’s not dividing anything and then you’ve got your like drink carrier pocket on the outside and the other side is exactly the same way and you’ve also got a couple of loops on chest on the straps.
You’ve got a couple loops there to hang stuff on. If you so wish and clarify what I talked about earlier on. The pricing was one of the reasons I went with badlands because they give a discount for first responders law enforcement prior military, current military. They do the discount program through that. So I got this pack for sixty dollars. It was 9 95 for shipping and processing, and it was 489 was taxed so delivered to my door, was 74 84 all right, so that’s everything we went over earlier.
All packed on here. Put a couple pictures there and show you how it looks. It’s a super slim design. I think it’ll work out pretty well so I’ll kind of go over to show you what I got in here and how I did it. So the stick on the side, obviously step one. I do have one night ice gear tie down here, just to keep the bottom mistake remove anywhere. Otherwise it’s just hanging on this top lashing strap.
So obviously that’s quick and easy. That’s the first thing I need when I get the tree so I’ll make that easy to get off. So then I throw this back on my back and climb once I get to hunting height. The next thing I’m gonna need, obviously, is the platform. I’ve got just the two back lashing straps holding it on there. So that’s super easy and there’s my platform.
I’ve got the strap for my ridge runner right there in that side, pouch. So quick and easy. So now I’ve got my platform on the hunting height, I’m at hunting height platform set, and then I got my pack here. I can just hang it on my gear hanger. So go over everything else, so I’ve got black racks or just on those bottom lashing straps. So they can stay there.
As long as I need to on this outside pouch over here, I’ve got my shotgun mic and then that’s where my camera was at which obviously it’s on the tripod right now, because I only have one so that’s on that left side. So camera equipment is there’s camera and mic the other side pouch. I have nothing in it. It was completely empty. So that gives me a spot to put some snacks whatever.
I need drinks on this side so I’ll. Let that open the so the main pouch on the back. I’ve got a pair of gloves. On top, I got a heavyweight jacket for later season. We got net gator face, mask beanie, my hand, muff, that’s the entire back. The middle compartment is what I did. Let’s have camera bass camera arm. That’s all I had in the middle one and then that small zipper pouch it’s on the inside of this I’ve got my headlamp extra flashlight and my kill kit and then on the small front, zipper pouch that we have up here, which will be hanging out in the open.
I’ve got regularly available the things I’m going to need that I can hang on my deer hanger, so grunt tube, biox rangefinder, that’s it and my racks are on the bottom there and they quickly could come off with just these flash straps they’re, always holding those and then they’re good to go. So all in all, I think it’ll work pretty good for what I’m trying to do.
It’s probably not for everyone you’re gonna have to like I said. If you were carrying more than one stick, I think you’d have trouble. Uh, there’s no model anything on the front the hook. I need to there’s not a lot of extra so, but for just a down and dirty minimal setup. I think it’s going to work really well for me. So can’t beat the pricing can’t be the lifetime warranty and the service that goes behind it.
So as low as you note, I was I kind of did wonder where they are made and the tag will tell you that it is made in vietnam. So I wish they were american-made but they’re, not so which not very many packs are anymore. So anyways, that’s my thoughts drop me. A comment subscribe if you like it and let me know what you think just for reference with everything as you’ve seen packed we’re at 18 pounds.
So not bad.
Hi I’m Dave Thomas and welcome to bowhunter plant coms test lab on today’s show we’re talking badlands, backpacks, alright I’m in the field now at the badlands packs. I just want to show you guys what they look like how they work. The first one I’ll show you is the tree stand. This is one I got on my back right now. I can see it’s pretty small. It’s it’s gonna, be perfect for when your bow hunting- and you know it gives you the ability to hang it, and then it opens up to what they call the stash basket.
You can put all your stuff in there, so I’ll show how that works, but first I’m gonna show you how it clips on dia. I wanna show you this piece here. So how this works. Is you stamp it here? You’re gonna tighten it. You also have a little holder here. You can put something you can clip a flashlight whatever you want, but when I want to show you guys this adjustability, so these two pieces here are just up and down.
So if it’s choking you, you can actually bring it down away from you, so this is great because a lot of times you get there and you just can’t. If you have the wrong pack, you don’t have a battle impact. You’re gonna have this issue and if it’s in a bad spy and you’re uncomfortable, you really can’t justice. So this gives you the ability to adjust it back and forth. So that being said, we see the quality of it’s really good.
The padding, there’s really nice padding on the inside. It feels real nice. It’s got like a spiderweb feel and then inside it’s got that nice padding. So it doesn’t hurt your shoulders and then you could just your straps here. If you want to tighter, you can also put a hydration bladder in this thing. It’s got a little compartment for that. So let’s go ahead and take it off. I’m gonna flip it around and show you guys what this thing looks like so on the sides.
They have these two clips here on both sides and what that does. Is it condenses it? If you want it smaller, you can leave those clips on. If you don’t need all the space, but, however, you can pop them and adjust them to get wider, and you can see you have a drink holder here. On the other side, you have another drink holder, so it gives you ability if you want to put a drink holder on both sides of water on one side, maybe an empty bottle on the other.
If we’re looking at the front of it, it’s got this nice handle here to hang on the tree. You can put a tree step in and hang it right off the tree step. It’s also got these areas you can grab on to as well as you can see here. It’s got a whole bunch of stuff or you can a whole bunch of stuff here or you could slide stuff in, and you know zip tie things to this or knives and flashlights different things you can clip to it, which is really cool same here, so a whole bunch of ability there with that.
So we open the first side of this thing and again you know with the battle ins, what I love about battle ins, not number ones the quality, but number two is what they do with these things. Like look at the zipper here, it’s got like a rubberized material, I might even just beat rubber, actually but I’m sure it’s a metal with a rubber over it, and it’s just really comfortable in your hand, real easy to grip, and it definitely opens right right away real easy, so here’s the inside and in here so you’ve hang it.
This comes open and you have your stash bag that pops out, which is really cool, so I’ll. Think about that right, you’re sitting your tree, you can put your handle in here. If you’re using a handle release, you can put your phone, you could put anything, you need your calls dead down. Wind sense, anything you need there. They have another part here you can even hold. The quiver has an area where you can put your quiver through here and slide it through Yeah right through here.
So your quiver- you put your arrows right through there to hold on to so you want to worry about trying to hang your quiver somewhere else. So it’s got a couple of straps and here to hold things in place. It’s got a nice big holder in here. It’s got a zipper compartment up in here. You put your wallet, your keys. If you need to and so again and then even down here, to put your wall under keys or anything important, and then that’s not even the main part of this thing, which is really great, so we open the main bag and in here they have another zipper compartment.
So you put stuff like your wallet keys wherever you need to to hide it or a heat pack. If you want it or the bladder thing goes in here as well, so lots of options more zippers hook on the inside here. It’s just really cool a whole bunch of more compartments on this side. So this thing is just literally stacked with compartments I mean. So this is again it’s the treestand model from battle ins.
You know this is a perfect model. If you’re a big ball hunter, especially in the Midwest we packed light, you know usually, and we go out- you know daily, but we usually pack pretty light so I’m. You know one like this. It’s perfect for what we’re doing out here, but if you need the heavier ones, battlin has that as well, and that’s what we’re gonna show you next, so you can see the padding on the inside here is really nice yeah absolute I’m, your back.
It feels really nice against your back. It even comes in on the sides here, so you know just not curl right around the back Sasuke putting on so you guys can see what looks like again. That’s a tree stand conveyance.

Take you through exactly the how and why I shove all my gear in my backpack for a backpack style hunt. If you want a quick overview of exactly the gear I’m carrying you can check out a recent video we did about my 2018. Tell me other hunt that’ll be in the description down below, as well as the link to an article that outlines even further so today, I’m gonna start is basically to take your backpack and what I like to do first is go through all the straps and undo.
Anything any buckle you got on here is to open the pack up just larger capacity. You can these bottom ones here just makes it a lot easier when I start shoving all your gear in there, and so it’s like super tight down the bottom I can actually fit a lot of stuff so open everything up. Then, why have to start with I just put a lot of like the lightweight stuff items in bottom, like your tent, your sleeping bag, your sleeping pads in the middle that I’ll start playing some of my food.
So my layers of clothing- cuz I like to do, is just push everything in there and get out as many of like the air pockets as you. Can you really don’t need a giant backpack if you’re, really conscious of how you’re packing and getting rid of all the air holes like you, will see? I don’t have any dry bags in my entire pack, because all my clothes will be shoved in all the small air pockets.
So so, just keeping explaining that whole time I will jump into packing right now. So I’m gonna take my tent I’m, just gonna shove this in the bottom and see you could use the compression sack for this big of the tent. But for me it compresses down. Really nice might shove it in here. I can push stuff on top of it and actually get into position.
I need it to be so I like to take this seam else a little longer and so I’ll take it and put it the shallow side and there just kind of compress it down in the pack and next to that I’ll place my quilt same thing and place it. This way inside the pack, though this way I don’t want to use up that upper volume. I want to use that the death side of it right here, I’m gonna, put that in next to it and see here already in to loosen this up a little bit so I got that situated right in there next.
What I like to do is take some smaller items, try to find any little small air pockets, shove it down the bottom. Just like that, and then a lot of times, I, don’t really keep my rain gear on top, if I know it’s gonna rain chance, – I will keep my rain jacket on the upper side, but a rain pants left on the bottom, when I’m best to do when I’m packing is to just roll things up some items work best rolling, I, don’t like to fold them otherwise I.
Let’s take a jacket and shove it in the rain. Pants I’ve seen the work better when I roll them again, I’m gonna shove it all the way in the bottom. You see already I have a little air pocket down there and I. Don’t want air pockets at all, I’m sure everything’s compressed at the bottom press it this way. Next, until my sleeping pad in the middle I have another air pocket right here, shove that down there rain fly will kind of keep on top, but right now, I’m gonna start throwing some of my layers in not expecting a lot of rain.
If ever I’m shut, my rain jacket again down the bottom to fill a bunch of holes. Let’s get that for now, I’m gonna throw my tie back groundsheet a lot of times. I can get this nice and small writing this – tuck it behind everything, you’ve already packed in there. It’s nice with bottom stuff, being really lightweight and just basically or sleeping gear, some insulation layers.
So you can actually push down and compress it without worrying about you know, cracking something else. That’s valuable like an optic or something like that. It’s in the side, I would try to leave a little pocket because the side of my backpack I will throw my spotting scope and I always save a little Crown Royal bag. My spotting scope is in my pack: I’m actually shoving this, as you can see, just right on the side goes all the way up.
So if I do need to easy, you know access my spotter really quick and I’m hiking in I can slip open the side and grab it and I like it buried too far down in there. So put that at the side- and this is where I would then throw my my food items and also save space. I, don’t carry an extra bag for food. I will use one of my game bags because I was keep the game bag on me anyway, so I might as well use it for food explicity sake just got one one days with the food here drop my mountain house again I try to remove air out of everything, even though it’s game back, it’s breathable, I, still roll it up, nice and small.
You know compress right down as far as I can so next, what I’ll do is I’ll take stove put that in there it has a big bulky item that doesn’t fit well next, a spotter, but the great thing is I: have all these insulation layer so they’ll be able to fit that in there in a second super super balanced and then I’m, taking a shaker bottle for my breakfast and that’s gonna, make watching noise I? Take this shaker ball out, just toss it inside my pack anywhere and then to fill up space because obviously is very valuable space when you’re packing I will show up.
Anything. I can hear, like my gloves, so that down the bottom, so my hat next to the spotter now I’m going to take another one, my insulation layers and use that around these void of space next to the spotter and next to the stove and then I’m gonna, take my extra drone berry bag. I want to keep that on top get your on the stream and you get some water that there and then all the rest of this game bags.
You could put these down below, sometimes I use them up on top again just to fill voids bunch of air pockets and then the camp pullout. You could attach that up in the top, but I have so much room in here. I just usually throw it in keep on the side. That’s all my safety gear onto it and then we’re getting down to the wire. Oh then I rain fly on the top just get you want him to rainstorm it again, shutting it down as far back as I can and my tent stakes, and then this point I’ll start finally zipping this up a little higher.
You know this is when I will feed my water, I kind of say this with the top is to set Adama, don’t try to put in any sleeve or anything like that, I’d like to shove this through this way, the side – full two-liter, bladder biggest thing that they see trying to make a king to the top of your pack. – gonna set that this little corner here that insulation layer, if I ever sit down one glass for a while I’d like to keep that at top of my pack.
You know it’s like the volume of the pack as I’m packing. It still stays like a nice round shapes and filling up all those air holes toilet paper. You get the air out of that. I’m gonna place this on the south side pocket here, along with my headlamp extra muzzle bullets, I’ll carry three powders bunch of bullets and a bunch of primers and the top.
Let’s create a bunch of my pocket. I’ll put the rear rest support up on top easy access as well, in reach, mini that’ll, be somewhere I want to try to grab case I, need it so I put that on top start, going to presiding I’m, gonna shove that in the pack, as well as my Ma’s little bolt starter, and then this I’ll either have around my neck I’m getting close to the shot, but we’re gonna be hiking in right now.
So it’s gonna show back top my back zipper up, and now we basically have a pack all put together. What I add to the bottom is going to be my glassing pad. You know I’m. Finally, out of stage we’re gonna start cinching things down. I do like to pull everything tight, cuz I, don’t like things moving on me side ones, and then, since I will have a muzzleloader on the side of my body.
I’m gonna try to not try to avoid always putting the tripe on my right side, Mazal it her right, shoulder, put some big both like a tripod on the left side. So this I’m gonna put my trekking poles over here. Checking poles, I’ll hike with them sometimes or just keep them on my pack right now, I’m going to use one for hiking attach this trekking pole here, try to pick it away from my body and this other side is going to be.
Where I put my tripod a lot of times. I just kick two legs in there secure enough or we could go all three if you want to, and this I always try to make sure I’m kicking my tripod arm away from my body. Sometimes you can beat that over here. That’s gonna move in catch you inside of the body I’d avoid that I can just walk it down. You know: let’s take these last ones, good, to keep a tight ship and running a passion, one extra straps going around catching on debris, spooking animals there you have it fit everything and you can see.
I have tons of extra room, so I can easily pack the rest of my two days and I’ve had the two days of food sitting out so full pack, all loaded down for three day, backpack huh all right and do a quick summary of where I was packing. All of my items again so pack, all the lightweight stuff at the bottom. So I don’t want a heavy weight sagging down on me, so that my sleeping gear in the bottom bunch insulation layers, mid layer, I start putting some of my food.
That’s getting a little heavier and I try to keep a lot of my heavier items at the top of my pack. So you know if you had a extra optic spoon, the top and my spotter on the side kind of still fairly high and then also want to keep a lot of items that I might be needing at a moment’s notice. I wanna have buried in the bottom attack at the tread dig out.
You know anything in there, so keep a rain jacket on top a rain fly. I keep all my headlamps on my safety gear, easy access on the outside of this little pocket right. Here. It’s quick and easy to get to extra bullets, and then you know all your extra snack. Sometimes you put on the top to try to keep everything organized in your pack. Gun know where everything’s at easy access, like I said: don’t want put stuff.
You need a finer pack, that’s never a good solution because you never know when you need it. Yeah just got to you know, learn it put it all in there and make it super tight, as you can like I said getting real. Those air pockets is key like this is a 3300 pack. I can easily go six days in this pack. Hope enjoyed this, how to pack a backpack segment as always appreciate your feedback.

A little mud ball- hey guys, badlands tackles, could be showing you today is one I also take up. The deer stand, no I’m, not telling you where it’s at my secret I’m pursuit pack. Here, it’s just your basic basic day pack, you have a main pouch, then another which is more of a thin pouch and Badlands. Mainly designed designs are geared for hunters in mind.
This is one that’s particular, probably more or less for a tree stand, which I kind of showed you just a little bit ago. This just just has been such a comfortable pack. That I have basically turned it into my my day. My day pack I have a field line series kind of apartment, little sack I guess you could call, but it’s just here in expensive gear, haulers I, guess they call it that’s what I’ve been carrying all my camera gear in I got an extra tripod in as well.
This also has an additional pouch on the side and then over here, as well with some really reinforced webbing Badlands is some high quality gear. If you’re not familiar with it, you’ll see Matt your name. Your vein box, your compel, is Bass Pro. Is that type of thing again hunters in mind, bow hunters in particular in this one, so it has that soft Ghidorah on the outside this one happens to be a webbing in here with some of this polyurethane style cushioning, and that goes on the back and then in here you have a rib down the middle as well, and I will tell you what a 90 degree weather when I was hiking through Kentucky.
Had this thing fully loaded, what’s over 20 pounds worth of gear, yeah I know whatever it’s too much, that’s what I carry I didn’t get the back the back, so it’s like I normally do is plan two packs adjustable, sternum strap belt. This particular one, maybe just slightly larger and I- would get a belt, so I could carry some other things on it.
So that’s fine, but I’ve kind of got in there and that’s why it’s a little short over. My back. You can’t go wrong anything with the Badlands name on it. I get us sued. Ominous equality normally show here on my channel. This one typically runs right around $100 and sometimes you can get online on sale. I know, I purchased this one at Bass, Pro for $60 on sale, I have some other Badlands packs.
I were well over to 300 bucks. This is the one I probably use almost exclusively, but with my badlands packs, I’m gonna go ahead and turn around the camera. Now I’m gonna give you a little gear load out what I got with me just today, it’s not basically to keep in cuz. This is my most versatile pack. It gets loaded with what I’m go Alan that day.
This is the pursuit pack in the outside doors line. This pack can do a magnitude of things, but it’s really designed for the whitetail hunter. One of the key features of this pack is this drop down shelf this. This front pocket has a hard PE sheet in here, so it keeps it rigid and then, through this, these straps here you’re able to make it perform like a shelf, but you can see here there’s plenty of organizational pockets here for anything like to throw my binoculars on here or any quick access gear.
It might mean another nice feature on this is for bow hunting. You can attach your quiver to the side of the pack through the strap here and the strap here to secure it. So that way, if you wanted to lose some weight on your bow, you can attach your quiver to the side of the pack, and that goes for both sides, depending on which side you’re hanging your pack from another nice feature is the drop down pocket for your bow or your rifle, and then you, you secure it by the are by this lashing system.
Up top here, you’re filling up the 2 700 cubic inch capacity of this pack there’s additional place to attach gear on the outside. It has 2 side mesh pockets, great for water bottle or other gear. It has two waist belt pockets located at the front and on the side of the waist belts are easy access, you’ll notice on the waist belt. It accommodates clip style holsters for carrying a sidearm. The pack also includes a rain cover located at the bottom.
There is a center aluminum stay located inside the make department which helps keep the pack rigid and easier to carry heavier weight. This pack is hydration compatible, so there will be a bladder sleeve located on the inside of the main compartment, and then it has a port on top and the pursuit actually has a clip for your hoes as well.

When you get the commander plus pack, as shown here with the lashing system and pack bag attached to start, you need to remove the lashing system by removing four clevis pins on one side. Give the second clevis pin as this is for adjusting the torso range and does not hold the lashing system or pack bag onto the frame. Another thing you will notice is that there is a hold open bar pin between the second and third pin, we’ll come back to the hold open bar and pin later once you have all four pins out and the lashing system has been removed.
You will attach the pac bag to the frame with the same clevis, pins and rings. The shelf strap will need to be held by the bottom and final pin and hole so be sure to put the pack bag between the frame and strap, then repeat the exact steps you just followed on the other side being sure to assemble the shelf, strap with the bottom pin. Now we will attach the hold open bar to the frame this pin will be found underneath the mesh panel, its the pin, that’s between the second and third pin that you already assembled in the previous step of attaching the pac bag to the frame run.
The pin through the hold open bar and put the ring back on there won’t be anything on this pin. Besides the hold open bar repeat the step on the other side to secure the hold open bar to the frame. Now your pack bag is ready to haul the gun. Boot pocket is on the same side as the two side: hinged pockets, opposite the spotting scope pocket. It will be tucked away when you receive your pack and can be stowed away again when not in use. If you are carrying a rifle, you can simply lay it on the pack put the butt in the boot pocket and buckle.
The two side hinge pockets to help secure your rifle in place. There is a lower door access with an internal horizontal divider to keep your gear divided. The large main compartment is accessed from the top and the hold open bar that we assembled earlier will allow you to easily load and unload your gear. Without the pack collapsing. There is a front pocket, that’s great for keeping small items readily available. There is a hook for your hydration bladder as well as a pocket to keep it in place after you haul.
All your gear to camp you’ll want to switch your commander over to the lashing mode, so you can haul out your meat. You will take the pack bag off via the ring and pins and we’ll put the lashing system on in just the same way as the pack bag was put on. Two extra pins are included in case you misplace, any an extra lashing straps are stored in the shooting sticks pocket. So if you have an extra large load you’ll be prepared when the commander is being used in the lashing mode.
There is a knife and flashlight pocket to keep your most important gear, easily accessible.
Hey everyone: this is Erin from Michigan ambush outdoors, so lately after I posted the video of our hiking trip on the Manistee River Trail and the north country trail I’ve been getting a lot of questions and requests to do a review on the pack that I used so I figured I’d just go ahead and do that for you guys this week. So the fact that I used is that’s actually from Alps outdoors. This is from their extreme pack line that they have.
This is the it’s called the commander x+ pack, the pack is made with sixteen eighty D nylon, ballistics webbing stitching. It’s also made with robic nylon fabric for added strength. The total pack empty weighs 9 pounds. This one does have an internal frame which I’ll cover, but that weighs roughly 5 pounds and then you have 4000 cubic inch storage space in the main compartment. So it’s a pretty big backpack. It’s it’s probably on the heavier side of this pack.
For me, when I was looking to purchase a pack, 2 wanted a pack that would give me the ability to order and the versatility to to carry me and also packing all my gear, so I needed something with a lot of storage, space and again I needed something with an internal frame that I could strap something to for mule, deer hunting and elk hunting, and even some of the areas that we hunt in Michigan you know are not very accessible.
You got a microwave back, so dragging a deer is not always the most ideal thing so quartering it out and packing it out of the screen. So this pack I use for hiking and hunting, so I’ll kind of just go over some of the features so just kind of right off the bat. Here we have a front pocket, and this actually detaches so go ahead and take this off for you guys. So this front pack is very convenient. You know for me what I use this pack for is I.
Put a lot of my paracord in here or I. Do put my paracord in here. Put my first-aid kit in here, I put my water filter in here, I put my Flint starter and also my camp stove in my cooking set that I had so I just have a stanley tin with MSR pocket rocket and a spoon that all fits into the stanley can and then, once I put everything in here, I kind of just set that on top and zip it up I’ll use this. This pouch here and I’ll just kind of hook, a cup to it or there’s really not a lot that you can do with this, because it is probably you know, could fall out so I mean I, just cook miscellaneous stuff in there, maybe some snacks or something well I’d like that.
You have this pack and you know, allows you to store some stuff that some small stuff that you know you need and not take up any of the main compartment space. So that’s kind of the first thing. The top pocket is also really nice. It does have two pouches. It’s got a main pouch here and then it’s got a very loud top pouch. Now, on the hiking trip, and probably even if I was doing a backpack hunting trip, what I put in here is I put my my sleeping pad.
It’s actually a blow-up sleeping pad that can press this down. So it fits nicely in here and then also for colder weather. Camping I have a liner an MSR liner that are actually is Alps, I’m. Sorry, it’s a I also have an out outdoors liner for my sleeping bag to give you some added temperatures, so both of those fit pretty nicely in here, I’ll put my raincoat in here. It actually fits it here. Also, you know if I have any other snacks gum, I put gum in here some you know maybe a flashlight or something that I don’t necessarily need to access all the time, but if I needed it, it’s easy to access like the rain cold code.
So that’s pretty nice. One thing I do like about this as well is this will actually it’s essentially removable and you can use this as like a lumbar or a fanny pack style if you’re just doing some hiking around your camp once you guys are over once you’re established, so the main compartment, like I, said you have a lot of room. You have a lot of compression straps for tighten down your stuff. Like I said with this, it’s 4 000 cubic inch of storage, so you have a lot of compartment space.
Typically, what I’m putting in here is I’m putting in my clothes jacket, socks, underwear, anything extra that I’m bringing on my hunting territory. My hiking, your hunting trip when we want on the Manistee River Trail actually has three days worth of clothes in here. I was probably more than I really needed. We probably changed more than we really should have. So we have a hiking trip coming up for Memorial weekend, where we’re only bringing a couple layers of clothing.
So I should have a lot of extra space in here, but I’m also putting food in here. Putting some outer layers some base layers, and then you know, like I, said mainly food. Another big area in the pack is, it does allow you to store a bladder compartment and you can run the hose right out the side here. You have a h2o pose outlet where it comes through and actually connects to this strap here on your shoulder, so you can easily access the bladder package.
Sure you get the world how those work, but this this compartment allows me to sort 3 litres of water with all my gear in it. So it actually allows you to hold quite a bit another cool thing: I don’t have a battery in it. Actually I just remove this I got a cool LED light. I, never use it. I, don’t know what it’s really for, but I! Guess you go. Let’s look for something inside the pack cool but I mean, as you can see, I’ve used two sack by two times and I just goes off that tag so which allowed it to light up.
So other than that that’s kind of the main compartment, you also have a sleeping bag compartment, which is really nice. I have a sleeping bag, that’s rated for 40 degrees. It fits perfectly in here. I, don’t have any problems and y’all throw this in here and then I’ll start to load up my actual pack and with the weight of everything inside the pack. It actually can press it down quite a bit. So that’s pretty nice as well for my tent I, strap it to the bottom of my pack down here.
I got a couple nylon straps, with some pretty nicely made. Buckles I put my tent down here, like I, said in my tent, my tent footprint or my tent tarp, whatever I’m using I’ll, put that there I have an REI passage to which you know fits pretty nicely and compresses down. So that’s pretty nice. Another thing like I, said this pack is originally designed for a hunting situation, but I use it a lot for hiking, but the good thing is I get to use it for both, so it does have a gun, holder or a bow holder.
This is fully adjustable for whatever type of weapon you’re carrying, so it allows you to also put a gun to the back end or a bow like I said. So it’s out of your way when hiking and you have both hands-free. So this just kind of tucks right up in here and out of the way another really cool feature of this backpack, which I really like a lot I’ve never had to use it yet is it does have an intern or don’t have a built-in rain cover, so that comes right out it attaches.
You can see. I even still got a paper coming out of here spot you ever got caught in the rain. You just go ahead and quickly throw that on. What’s that, it’s pretty nice with the house logo, so you still got a little bit of orange on your back. You know in a hunting situation. I probably went away before, so that’s pretty nice as well. I do like that feature. That was a huge selling point for me when looking at a hunting, hiking type of backpack is drain cover and gun carrying.
Another really cool feature of this, for this backpack is on the side. Here you actually have a fleece lined compartment right on the side, so the side of the backpack, you have a fleece lined compartment, which is designed to carry a spotting scope. So when I’m not hunting, though this is a pretty nice compartment, because I can put things in here- lightweight stuff I’ll either do a half face, mask gloves kind of put cold weather like I, said Huff, gloves hats face mask put that right in here, zip that up I don’t have to worry about.
You know, pulling stuff out of my bag during the day and it falling out and losing it, and then also it doesn’t affect the actual storage compartment. It’s in a hunting situation. You would lose a little bit of space on the inside, but not very much so I do like that as well. You know it’s. A very basic backpack gives you again a lot of versatility and you know a lot of storage space, so I mentioned in the beginning of the video.
This backpack has an internal frame. So if you’re ever in a in a hunting situation, we have the ability to pack out meat so make sure I got along the straps undone. So you have two buckles on on the side. You have a zipper. Give me a second takes a little bit of work to get this off so pretty heavy duty, but, like I said so, we got two buckles here on the bottom and then you lose the pack, and now you have an external frame, so this frame opens up and allows you to scrap any type of game that you have Porter got on your back.
I know that you can probably load about a hundred pounds of meat on the back of this and then still attach your four thousand cubic inch of storage space to the backpack and be able to hike out you and just like that. The bags reattached to the frame. So it’s a really nice setup, I, really like this. This option that you have again, you know for me I’m doing hiking and hunting with this pack, so I needed something like that.
If you’re just doing hiking, this probably isn’t the facts that you’d want to go with because, like I said, it does weigh 9 pounds. I, don’t know what some of the Oxford Osprey pack packs way, but I’d imagine they’re they’re a little lighter. You have a very nice venez backing. It’s padded. You have padded waist belts which are really nice. This frame is fully adjustable, I believe the specs on this goes anywhere from 17 to 21 inches, so, depending on I’m, not a very tall guy in 5/8, so I had to do a lot of adjusting it.
It is kind of hard to adjust the frame, but once you get the hang of it, it’s not a big deal. Side pouches, you can see here. You’ve got two really nice big side, pockets on both sides. So, for me, I’ll put my GPS on my right, because I’m right-handed, so I often check my GPS to make sure that I’m following the right track or I’m in the right area that I need to be in so I’ll put my Garmin 64 St right in this pouch and then in this one I’ll usually have a headlamp and, depending on the type of weapon that I’m carrying if I’m carrying my M&P 40 or my 357 security, six, which is also a Smith & Wesson firearm I’ll, put like a extra magazine for a speed loader in here.
It just really depends on what I’m carrying you know. Overall, this is a great pack when I went out on the Manistee River Trail I had roughly about 45 pounds of gear, I mean you, you felt like you, you knew you had the weight on your pack, but I was never in a situation where my shoulders hurt. Where my my waist hurt. You know it’s very comfortable. You know it holds the weight really well really close to your body and as long as you pack, it right and you put your heavier stuff on the bottom and kind of load upwards.
With some of the lighter stuff. You know it’ll stay close to your body and it fits really nicely again. This is the Alps outdoor commander plus pack to their extreme line. If you guys are looking for a backpack that allows you to do hunting hiking, you know this is definitely something that you want to consider. This backchat runs right right around the price point of 350, depending on where you order it. I actually ordered this one off Amazon and a ship very quickly to the house with Prime, so I got it within two days.
You know I hope you guys liked the review as always subscribe like share, and you know good luck out. There. Hunting hiking be safe, and you know thanks for watching, appreciate it.
Hey guys welcome behind the riser outdoors today we’re going to review on the apps outdoor commander plus pack. The helical commander is just a frame in the carrier. This is five thousand two hundred and fifty cubic inches. It’s a little bit bigger than some of your other ones, but it’s also a little bit heavier and it comes with all this behind. It will show you when you get it, your pack is gonna, be on the front.
We’re gonna have this behind the pack. If you follow the instructions, what they want to do, is you hole everything to base camp or whatever you’re gonna camp for the night? Then you take your pack off and you have your frame and your meat carrier sitting there waiting on you to kill something. So you carry your meat up, but what we did was we move the meat carrier on the outside. You see all these pans everywhere we do.
Is you unpin everything you put your pack on the inside? This is two pieces one here. One here put that on the outside. Now you can. What we’re trying to do is bekbek on we’re, not gonna, have a base camp and walk in and out of everyday we’re. Gonna go in we’re gonna set up camp whenever we see the oh and continue from that point the next time. So you got your pack here. We put this on the outside of mount. So when you kill you got carry meat and just compress this down, and it also comes with extensions to put around the meat it comes with three of these.
You can also use this as you fill your pack up and if you want to get you want your pack as compressed as possible as you’re carrying it through the woods. So you don’t have a whole lot of issues there. You can also because you’re gonna have your tent your sleeping bag, your pad your food, your cooker, anything else that you need. So you can actually put your extension on here and by putting these the shell, your meat carrier on the outside, and your pack on the inside.
You can actually put everything down and cinch it up and if you do have any extra outside of material, you can put it on the outside and actually cinch it up. Like your bow, your firearms. Anything like this another good do about this pack is. It does have this shelf right here, so you can actually put your your whole hind quarter or your your shoulder on here and let it rest up through and let it go around through here, Oh a couple options with this bag is: it has a metal rod that goes into it.
It comes around and it’s kind of inside here, and it comes back down to one of your pins on the side. We we removed that just because we thought it was getting in the way a little bit. It was kind of cumbersome. We really didn’t care for this pack also has an outlet down here on the bottom, to where you can open it up, and you can access anything that you have here from the inside. You go. You just take this out right here, young, do it it’s kinda like a liner inside the bag.
So you can actually come all the way through and get anything out of it from the bottom. If you need to instead of pulling everything out of your bag, that’s a good plus about this bag. Oh and plus, you can zip it down kind of cinch it up at the bottom here on this liner and then you can kind of this stuff in there. So if you want to just put stuff in the top to where it doesn’t fall off to the bottom, you can still access the bottom pieces like, oh whatever.
You want very bottomless and access it when you’re on the go instead of unloading everything it has some pretty cool features for the price. Mike said we’re hunting on a budget this year. Oh this actually kind of failed, wait right in the our budget that we was looking at a lot of little storage pockets. We liked about this, but it did come in handy we’re thinking it will anyway, with all those little crannies and crevices for a little storages.
Oh, it’s a pretty good pack book price would would not would not bark at it. One bit I mean we we like it, it seems to be able to expand pretty good and it also seems to feel -. You know you know, tighten down and sits down pretty good as well. So what do you think you got? Yeah I mean it looks like it’s gonna be a good bet. You got the adjustable back support, you can adjust the waist height, it’s padded real well, and it has pockets on the outside of this as well they’re.
Just what we’re gonna do is we’re gonna. Try it out we’re gonna, do another review and let you know exactly what we think about it after we field tested good or bad. Well, let you know that way. The future you’ll know if this is the right pack for you, the rifle holder as well on the side is untucking out the bottom loosen it up, stop fold over then just snaps right in here, and you can adjust this all the way up, your rifle or your boat, whatever one you desire down here to the side, just like so I think you got it, you know that’s a pretty little ties here.
You know we we won’t be able to do a hurt percent. Give you a feedback of how well we like it to actually put to put it to some good use, and you know, take it to South Col Robin and see how we like it up there, because, oh, we have a trip plan next year, we’re good little use and see what we think about it. Hey y’all, this is Joshua. Trees are for little bit of a review. Video on this commander, Plus pack from Alps outdoors, the singing is only 199, it’s 86 liters and only weighs about seven and a half pounds. I’ll put the link at the bottom, this video after I’m done, so you can check it out and go get yourself, one there’s all sorts of storage on this thing, so you really don’t have to worry about leaving nothing at home. You don’t have to worry. If I could pack me in too small, you can take everything with you on your trip for sure.
In this compartment, I’ve got my water bottle tripod in this middle compartment, I’ve got scent spray. T-Posts temper saw toothpaste, toothbrush edy utensils over here, along with my muzzle loader I’ve got my rangefinder I’ve got my binoculars down here. You’ve also got a compartment on top of this right here, so you can throw in some other stuff five-five, whatever you need to throw up in there also you’ve got your waist belt. You’ve got pockets on there. I’ve got my pistol in here.
We’ve got straps on your backpack straps. As well, so you can throw anything on there. This thing loaded down, isn’t that heavy you know, holds all your weight on your hips, pretty good. It’s really comfortable when you put it on top and everything up, get it all set up and another plus about this thing is: if you quarter out your animal, you can take it out with this pack. It comes with a separate thing that I don’t have on here right now, but you can cool about your animal.
Carry it on. This makes a lot easier on. You I got this pack mainly because you know it’s so big. It was cheap compared to the others. This size I can hold my gun for me. So that’s another reason why I wanted it because really wanted to have both hands available? You know whenever I’m hiking. Another reason is because the packs that I’ve had in recent past have been too small I’ve had to really pick and choose between a know. What I wanted to take with this thing. I, don’t have to worry about that.
So do yourself a favor, go to Alps outdoors and get you one and you can enjoy it as much as I I’m going to this winter. Thank you all see ya.
After the insanity of this past weekend, and particularly the great flood of 2018 I saw that it was somewhere in the mid 70s on my phone, so I opened up the back patio and stepped outside. Let me tell you as soon as that cold air hit, my face, all I could think about was getting back to Colorado today, I thought I would give you a quick review on the outdoor or the Alps outdoor mountain pack that I’m gonna bring it up to the hill. We’re gonna try everything we can to make sure this year’s trip happens, because let me tell you I, need it gonna.
Give you a little bit of background on why I selected this pack there’s a ton of reviews already available and I’m just gonna list those below, and it basically helped me make the decision on picking this one, but when I was growing up, I was blessed to go to film on two different times as a student and one time as an adult the two times, I went as a student. We were using external frames like this and they worked out just fine. We were hauling back then I think somewhere between 55 and 65 pounds, depending on the day and the distances that we were going and as a young pup.
You could do that and the one time I went as adults somewhere around 2002 I went to REI and a couple of different outdoor sporting places Outfitters to try an internal frame, and let me tell you three days in the mountain with that internal pack, I told myself, I would never use one again now some of y’all think y’all might be able to convert me. So if you have some ideas on packs to look at list, those below and I might give them a go. So one of the main negatives of an external frame is that they are just going to be heavier you’re, carrying around this aluminum or titanium, whatever they are and I think this thing weighs out at roughly 7 pounds the main things that I like about it and I’m going to give you pictures do this will be a lot easier to see and there are a ton of adjust abilities with the straps and a ton of storage compartments and for a person like me, this thing is awesome: it’s got the standard straps for your shoulders here.
It’s got the main buckle here, more storage compartments. Here it’s got a place to carry your pistol here. There are bears and meth addicts in Colorado I think there’s a total of 10 storage compartments. This is what I kept all of the items that I don’t use on a regular basis here, and here you’ve got two side: storage compartments here that he’ll holds my bow and I’ll. Show you a picture that, because it was really held it well, and this is actually what keeps the bow in a tight adjusted and this works just fine at that range.
You’ve got another quick pocket, that’s right here, an internal pocket, that’s in here, and this is where I kept all of my electronics and a major side pocket. Here we can put your tent stakes and other longer items that are here in the main storage compartment somewhere I think around 5 000 cubic square inches I love this thing because of its straps and storage. That main thing is when you’re up in the hills for any amount of time having a lot of adjustability with straps, really saves the pressure on areas of your body.
So I can’t suggest this high enough. The last thing that I want to say is I’m about 160 to 175 pounds, depending on how much Mexican food I had that day and I’m about 5 foot 9 inches. If you are any shorter than that or smaller I would not advise getting this pack, because I have everything she’d wrap down almost to the last inch. So if you’re small in that don’t get this pack, otherwise, if you’re an external frame pack I, cannot suggest this high enough.
You get it on Amazon a lot cheaper than you can at Cabela’s or Bass Pro Shop. Now we’ll get this thing packed out and head up to the hills.
