This is a good day to talk about waterproofing your gear as it’s thundering and have a great storm just to the north of me here by this river, and what I want to talk to you about is the Kiwi heavy duty water repellent, and this is a camp dry. It’s a silicon spray, it’s very easy to apply. You just follow the directions. I would call this more of a water resistant spray than a waterproof. It says for two applications for best results. I would say even maybe do four it just doesn’t really build up.
It has to dry and cure also for a day to two days. I applied it here on my hiking boots, which are the Isola fugitive, gore-tex boots, and also just some leather work gloves that I showed or I will be showing here so, but as far as applying it very easy, very simple to do you just clean clean off, whatever you’re going to do ahead of time, get up as much dirt any sort of grease or anything like that. You know wash it up a little bit and let it dry out and then apply it and you can apply it every four hours.
Just follow the instructions on the can it’s six dollars a can or that’s what I pay for it at Walmart, and it’s very easy to find. It usually can find it into your big-box stores. Next to the shoe polish and shoe strings and all that, but some other products that you might want to consider would be snow seal and also Nick wax has a huge line of products I’m going to probably give Nick, quacks and maybe snow sell an advantage over this Kiwi heavy duty, water repellent, but this for what it is for it for its price and just its ease of use.
It’s worth recommending I wanted to throw that your way. It’s not going to be a hundred percent. It wasn’t for me, it helped the water to beat up slightly better, but it wasn’t a hundred percent after at some point that silicon is going to break down and you just got to retreat and retreat. So that’s it I’m going to try to keep this one short again trying to keep these review. Videos short anyways thanks for checking in guys and take care. Those guys don’t need any silicone spray.
Do they supposedly breathable. So you know as your, for example, on your feet. If you’re using it you’re, not gonna, be using it on your feet,.
Spray boots with some camp dry here, where it’s warm and pretty open and fairly ventilated and kind of, let it soak in instead of trying to spray them at home, because this stuff will smell up a small house or an apartment, real, easy and it’ll kind of linger by the time anybody comes back into where we shut the plant down tonight. So by the time anybody comes back into work, smell will have dissipated.
It’s a much larger area here. It’s a lot easier to do. Ordinarily, I would spray this on in the summertime and just leave them in the shed for the weekend. But it’s it’s wintertime right now, it’s too cold out! You want to really spray this like room temperature or warmer. So we’ve got our Belleville 600 C T, the C T stands for compost site. Oh no I’m just kidding composite, so it’s a safety toe, but it’s composite instead of steel, so it won’t conduct electricity and also in cold weather.
You know these are hot weather boots and cold weather that composite toe is and isn’t going to. Freeze your your foot as much that steel toe kind of tends to hold on for that cold air. So these are american-made boots. Belleville makes a really good quality. Boot I decided to get some in sage, green I, typically get them in a coyote I get the Marine Corps issue aircrew boots. I thought I’d keep these aside, so we’re going to go ahead and we’re gonna spray.
Some can’t dry on them. When I get his tag, Walter dear person get out the old Leatherman waiting again lace them up later. So you’re gonna have to forgive the camera angle. Typically, I just start with the tongue, I make sure I get inside he’s trying to saturate everything. Try to get all the surfaces covered inside your little looks and crannies. That’s places that are easily overlooked, and this will change the color.
A little bit might darken it just a little bit. I do kind of lay it on a little heavy. You probably don’t need to apply this much, but the way I’ve always done it. You can’t fry is just just to help out in those wet weather situations around all the eyelets seems so there’s the Belleville logo on the back there right around the Seoul I’m, not sure how well the cameras getting this I’ve got it propped up against the box, so I try to make sure I get the tongue first and then the stitching and around the soul before I just do the main area.
I mean it’s pretty much saturated, as is I’m just kind of filling in and this stuff the boots will will kind of smell all weekend. It’s a little bit a little bit like a military supply depot which I like that smell, but most people don’t so I’ll. Let them sit here and work for about the next I’ve got about a four and a half hours, let’s work and then I’ll bring them home with all the areas in between, and this right here, I don’t mind that it darkens up the food a little bit and get right inside here too inside on and how to do it.
One more thing: I’m gonna go ahead and spray the laces I. Typically, don’t, but why not right here and if I get a little overspray on the boots so much the better now I’ve never gone back and treated boots, afterward I just do them when they’re new, so I’m not really sure what the life expectancy is on this or if they recommend going back. Maybe it’s just because I wear my boots out fast enough and I will be putting in these insoles after they dry and I lace them up.
This is an american-made insole that you can buy at Walmart, believe it or not, and these tend to work pretty good I, replace them about every six months.
Tents and other gear can be subjected to a lot of abuse when we’re out on the trail. Abrasion and high winds are both challenges that our gear has to stand up to, but there’s another factor which can seriously affect your gears abilities to deal with these challenges, and that is uv radiation. We all know that strong, sunlight at high altitudes or during the summer months can have a seriously damaging effect on our skin, but many people don’t realize how much it affects fabrics.
Also, in just two weeks of summertime exposure, synthetic fabrics can lose up to half their strength, making them much more vulnerable to tearing and puncture tent and gear. Solid proof protects your gear from uv radiation, whilst at the same time adding water dependency. A single application can double the useful life of a tent fabric, delaying the need to replace what is often expensive equipment, tent and gear sided proof is easy and safe to use at home since, like all nick wax products, it’s non-flammable and fluorocarbon free for best results, rinse the fabric first with water to remove any dirt.
There’s no need to dry before treatment simply apply the solder proof evenly to the fabric with a spray brush or sponge using a damp cloth take care to wipe off surplus product as you go along once your gear is dried off, it will be protected from both water and ultraviolet. It will last much longer than it would otherwise helping you to get the absolute most out of your kit.
