Hey guys, Jeremy Balki here with big tooth tackle and I just wanted to talk a little bit about our new spinnerbait that came out this year, the straight wire and give you a couple ideas on some modifications you can make that might help you out and then some thoughts on fishing it -. First, this bait is unique from other spinner baits and that the trailer hook is wired to the top hook on the mag size, and we did that so that the bait tracks true and it keeps the hook in a really good position for when the fish bite, the fish can’t put it push it out of the way like they can with just rubber tubing and that’s been really effective and the big nine out hugs really helped with that as well.
But to make this even more effective one thing that you can do is you can take your pliers and you can bend the hooks out a little bit, make sure you bend the hook itself and bend the bottom one opposite from the top one I, don’t know how well you’re gonna be able to see this, but the hooks are still in line, but they’re a little bit offset now and that’ll really help you’re hooking percentage as well, not just with the straight wire, but within any spinner bait.
You can do this. A second modification- and this worked really well for us earlier this season when fish were a little lethargic and we were catching fish deeper off. The weed edge is to take a rubber core sinker and pull the rubber out of it and clamp it on above the head, a red ball here on the straight wire and that would make the bait run deeper and really help you grind down the deep weed edge more effectively.
It can also be a really good idea to if you’re a troller and you wanted to troll the spinner bait through weeds. It really helps keep the bait down, so those are just two modifications to the straight wire that I think could help you become more successful. One final tip I would give when it comes to fishing straight wire is what kind of gear you’re using, and this is really important for me personally- I use a thorn, Brothers predator rod and it’s an extra heavy.
You don’t want to go too light when you’re fishing, a spinner bait generally you’re, making shorter casts and you’re grinding through pretty heavy cover and I like a fairly stiff rod for that and also a medium speed, real, not a high speed real. This happens to be a revelatory, medium speed, beast, and it’s just about perfect for fishing. The straight wire so consider that as well, if you’re gonna be fishing spinner baits and in particular straight wire, things that’ll help.
