Design team here at outdoor research and I’m going to tell you about our interstellar jacket for spring 18 for him and her this is our pinnacle piece this is the go-to in the alpine it’s a. Three layer membrane so you’ve got a shell fabric you’ve got the membrane that keeps everything waterproof and then a backer to make sure it stays protected for a long period of time it. Uses our ascent shell membrane which in this package is our lightest and most breathable fabric that we have it also has stretch so you don’t have to worry about your fabric binding while you’re moving in the alpine we use dynamic reach panels for our patterning so you. Have full range of motion while you’re climbing you can get that full extension with your arm and you don’t have to worry about it come out of your harness which is a great feature to have we also used a helmet compatible hood so. You can fit it on over your helmet and it’s fully adjustable with integrated cord locks so you don’t have to worry about hiking with the helmet that’s too big and you’re getting it blown off we. Used villain center front zipper it’s waterproof so it’s nice and easy to use so if you need to ventilate really quickly you can just unzip that and don’t have to worry about fiddling with some of those stickier zippers we used. Other waterproof zippers on our hand. Pockets and chest pocket that are exposed so you don’t have to worry about dealing with those flaps like other rain shells our bottom hem has an elastic. Draw cord in it so you can tighten it down and get a nice snug fit if you need a little bit of extra weather protection or keep some of that heat in and out. Cuffs are adjustable as well to fit over a glove and tighten it down so you don’t. Have to worry about that in our left-hand pocket packs in so all the jacket. Packs and a left-hand pocket turn it inside out zip it closed and has a carabiner and loop on it clip it on the back of your harness for those alpine fast and light missions this is the interstellar jacket for spring 18.

Well hello there guys eugene here from reviewer gear and today i want to talk to you guys about an awesome new jacket that I’ve been testing using wearing. That i really like this is the marmot avant jacket it’s a featherless synthetic fill jacket. That I’ve really enjoyed and i. Want to show you i don’t see too many views of this thing on youtube for some reason so i was like hey why not do this. So a while back i shot a review of the marmot zeus jacket this is actually a. Down jacket 800 fill and I’ve had this jacket for a. Long time and i really enjoyed it. I’ve used this thing for i think a little bit over five years now it’s an awesome jacket but it has two. Begun to worn through to wear through have some tape on it lose some feathers so it’s time to upgrade and no hood on this one so this one is just as. Warm maybe a tad bit cooler but the fact. That it has a hood it makes it just so much better and it actually is warmer because it can warm your head up which is where a lot of heat loss happens now in terms of the fit and just the construction of the jacket it has a. Nylon shell that’s very nicely water. Repellent you can actually I’ve walked in the rain snow it’ll melt and just really beat off really nicely and roll off the jacket and the cool thing about. This is that the featherless the synthetic down inside is a down that if. It gets wet it doesn’t clump down and it’s still nice and warm so that’s a. Really nice feature now let me just go kind of through all the features of the jacket but first I’ll start with the fit since i have it on in just the way it feels it’s kind of tailored to a kind of. Athletic shape so if you do have a large belly you might be able to fit in there but uh. You know it’s nicely kind of trimmed to. Fit you really well and stay close to your body and it’s very comfortable all. The way to here i hope you can hear me well but it’s up all the way to your chin and. If you always wear the hood. There’re that zips up really nicely very. Nicely shaped to your head very warm. Not too much space for when to get in there the sleeves aren’t really nice and. Long and if you raised your arms up the. Waste of the jacket doesn’t really right up that’s the angel wing movement feature from marmot that’s that’s. Excellent if you’re gonna use it for rock climbing or anything where you have to have your hands up you have that nice. Freedom of movement all the way around as you can see they’re very. Comfortable so the features also as. You’re kind of wearing this jacket we have a really nice chest pocket here and the down fill is on the outside of. This pocket and not on the inside or if you’re carrying a phone you want to stay warm fits excellently in here this is the. Iphone 6s plus so pretty large fits no. Problem into that pocket i like that a lot the previous jacket did not have that by the way I’ll have links to this. Jacket in the description haven’t quite seen on amazon yet but i will put that in there when it is available you can get at rei or a couple other online. Stores so there’s not pocket going down here we have these two hand warmer. Pockets very nice and large they go all. The way up to here down to here all the. Way to the zipper here, and they don’t go beyond here they do have a nice little lip here so even if you have the pocket open there’s something in there it won’t fall out because you have another about three inches of space they’re really nice smooth zippers that are water-resistant on the outside nice. Little plastic things there zipper pulls. And inside of these pockets you have as. You reach in there and you pull out you have these things which allow you to cinch down the waist so that’s that’s. Awesome and then to release that you have two little release buttons here just like that and then you can relax the waist like that so the waistband as you unzip all the. Way on the inside we don’t have any pockets just some tags and some information here about cleaning. It in terms of washing it you can wash it just like you do down you know just. Make sure you read the titles in there. So those are the pockets test those are the features on the cuffs here sleeves. It’s just a nice little rubber band stays nice and tight around your wrists. You can have a nice watch hidden under there no problem you know. This will fray a little bit as time goes on but nicely done really nicely done. For a mormon, and then we have a marmot logo here logo on your chest the other really cool thing about this jacket is if you have this down jacket and you want to get a rain jacket also from. Marmot let make sure they’re the same size so this is the medium and i have the medium minimalist jacket i have a. Review of this on my channel a long time ago this is one of my favorite jackets of all time the marmot minimalist rain. Jacket absolutely like it I’ve had this. For over five years has not leaked at all gore-tex but what i want to mention. In this review though is that when you put this on if they’re the same size. It’s amazing this almost every time the. Hood just automatically fits into that did i make it in their i think it did no okay but there we go. Might be under no i don’t know we’ll see but you put that on and just live it zips. This up this down jacket fits perfectly. Inside of this rain jacket so you have. Rain protection now and the rain hood. Goes right over that’s just awesome. Now it’s water protected and you’re nice. And warm inside so i really like that. How those products work together now the. Other thing i wanted to mention is that this seams here the baffles are. Very interestingly done there is actually no stitching to divide the fill. I’m not sure how they’ve done it and if you look really closely there is no stitching and there’s no melting i don’t. Have no idea how they have separated these baffles amazing stuff. Good technology yeah anyway it’s just. Really cool i will also mention that this real on the outside here the shell is very thin and i-i don’t know how easily. It will be ripped if you snag it on something sharp i think it won’t be hard to rip it so you should be careful with it but it’s very light it is a little. But heavier than a down jacket now when. We take this jacket off and we take one. Of these pockets and turn it inside out. You can just stuff the whole jacket into. One of these pockets so if you’re trying. To pack this into a backpack for going. On a nice little trip into the mountains and you know i mean of course you could just stuff this you can just stuff this. Jacket into your backpack but the other. Option is to stuff it into its own. Pocket there’s a jacket and a little hot. Dog bun so that lets you store it in. Your backpack really nicely and come nice and compact and then you can just pull it out and it expands out back to. Its original size and shape no surprise. Very nice and warm you know i can say a. Lot of good things about it I’ve had it for probably three or four months now i. Really like it i would buy it again no problem look for a sale re i will have a sale on ammo sometimes yeah i think around $230. And then you can get it all the way down to like 160 150 on a sale, and they have. A female version of this as well so if you ladies are interested there is a female version of this so check that out. They’re really easy to access so and. They’re really big zippers so you can really just dump all of that excess heat out of the underarm zip there and that’s. Going to keep you nice and cool inside the jacket and then moving up to the. Hood you have a nice collar here up at the top so you can really protect your face if you need to and it is a helmet. Compatible hood so the hood is certainly. Big enough you could wear a climbing helmet underneath of there or even a bike helmet if you’re wearing it that way but you do have some adjust ability. In the back so you can make the volume. Of that hood be a lot smaller so if you’re not wearing a helmet if you’re hiking or backpacking you can cinch that down and you have a stiffened brim here. On the front and that just keeps the rain from getting onto your face the fit. Here is really nice right now I’m wearing a small and it fits me really well I’m just wearing a lightweight. T-shirt and kind of base layer underneath of it and i feel like i have plenty of room to move if i was wearing. Some insulated pieces underneath of this. I might want to size up to a medium but as far as the stretch here as far as the. Fit I’ve definitely got some room this jacket isn’t going to weigh you down it’s extremely lightweight it’s breathable again so it’s gonna dump out. Beautiful coat the inside fabric is extremely nice and extremely slick its. Completely seam sealed so it’s a totally waterproof breathable coat it’s made with patagonia’s proprietary. H2no fabric so it’s very durable and tough but extremely lightweight great. For packing to the flats or something like that and also really good for fresh water if you just have something in your backpack you want to take it out and throw it on it stretches so it stretches. Lightly so you’re gonna feel it kind of move with your body as you’re kind of moving around and you know working your way up a river or whatever it has. You know really great hood design just a simple crown adjustment and the backs just gonna come right down over your head it has a little bit of a bill on it. So it’ll pop out protect your face from the rain just a simple cuff design on. That on that jacket with the velcro so you can kind of you know get it in around your wrist it does have a chest pocket there as well as two hand. Pockets on the side hand warmer tight pockets on the side but i think the most. Exciting thing about it what i really look for in a jacket like this is the quality of the fabric and this fabric is. Sitting a little bit higher, so they are pack compatible you’ve got two zippered hand warmer pockets pretty large pockets. Have a light fleece lining on them so you can easily store some items in those. Pockets as well, and they do have the flap over the top to protect from any moisture so definitely some smart pocket. Designs they’re got full length center. Front zip on the piece so it’s a really easy to use center front zipper and it does have a storm. Flap on the inside of this jacket there. Are two drop-in pockets on either side whether you need extra skins layers for. Your gloves or any other additional items you’ve got drop-in pockets on the jacket just for that and some as we know. Waterproof breathable garments sometimes can’t breathe enough for the energy output so you need some extra of venting the nano storm jacket does have pit zips. So under each arm there are integrated. Pit zips to allow you to open that up dump some of that excess heat in the event that the jacket isn’t quite breathing fast enough for you so a really smart included feature with those. Pit zips this jacket is hooded it does have an. Alpine helmet compatible hood with multiple adjustments so a really sizable. Kind of oversized hood on the piece you’ve got adjustment on the front and the back so right on the front you’ve got kind of draw cords that will allow you to cinch down that hood and you’ve got embedded have mechanisms to loosen. That if you need to that will help you cinch down the whole hood here we do have a shaped brim to add some structure and to deflect some of that moisture and on the back there is another adjustment. Point to pull in the outsides of the hood to give you some extra peripheral vision so a lot of adjustment on that hood it’s a really smart design we do. Have some extra adjustment on the cuffs and hem of the jacket so around the. Wrists there is a hook and loop closure that’s going to allow you to secure that if you have to secure it over gloves or if the gloves are going over the jacket you can easily manipulate that and work. That fabric as needed the hem of the jacket does have a draw cord there are two cords on the outside and those embedded mechanisms so you can easily cinch that down to get a nice snug fit down load to keep any drafts. From coming up underneath the jacket the fit is a pretty regular fit I’m wearing. A medium here and it does fit pretty adequately i don’t have a lot of. Room for layers underneath but as it is an insulated piece it is fairly warm already so just something to consider with the sizing the design of it is really smart you’ve. Got an articulated design a seamless shoulder pattern so the added. Stretch and that seamless design makes it really easy to move around in this jacket i don’t feel restricted at all which is really nice with this piece so. For a really warm waterproof piece for. Down it’s been treated with almost a. Waterproof agent to try to keep it to the point where it does have some water. Resilience now this wrap jacket does have nice ykk. Zippers and nice zipper pulls the one. Think that i find is a little bit funny and this is probably just because I’m from the us is that the zipper zips on. The left-hand side instead of on the right-hand side so it’s almost 2 i guesses. Us customers the way a woman’s jacket. Would be so i was a little unused to that at first but I’ve definitely come around to it and it’s not really a big. Deal the hood does have a wire in it. That allows you to change the shape of the brim so for example right now if i. Put a little kink in it you’ll see that it stays so you can really get this hood. To fit exactly like you want it which is. Actually really pretty nice i mean depending if you have a hat on or like a. Winter hat or something like that or even if you’re just wearing the hood standalone you can definitely customize this to fit exactly how you like it. Some additional features to take note of on the inside of the hood you do have these little bungees that allow you to. Cinch the hood up again to get some more customized ability and fit exactly the. Way you like it the inside of the zipper has this really. Nice soft padded divider between the. Zipper and your chin so that right there is definitely a nice feature and keeps. You comfortable while this is zipped all the way up now you’ll notice inside all. The pockets it is an accentuated color. In this particular case against the. Green i have a bright red i really thought that was nice part of me kind of. Wishes that it was orange instead of red simply because the rest of my gear is an olive green and orange combination but. That’s just my own personal taste can’t hold on anything against it and i think this is pretty stylish now you’ll. Notice that the chest pocket has a double-sided zipper the reason for that. Being that this also doubles as a stuff sack this allows me to invert the jacket. Pulling it through this chest pocket which basically allows it to sit inside. Its own pouch giving it the easier. Capability of snuffing this inside your backpack making it a nice small compact unit and keeping it out-of-the-way now. In my opinion this jacket is just about perfect for one of these really nice crisp fall days today for me right now. It’s in the mid-40s and so this is the. Absolute perfect weight I’m not hot I’m. Not cold this is lightweight it doesn’t feel cumbersome I’m six foot one and i. Have reasonably long arms and what i really do enjoy about this jacket is. That the arm length is almost perfect at first i was a little nervous that it was gonna seem a little bit short but what i found is these cuffs always sit exactly. Where i want them no matter what i do with my arms they stay exactly where they should and so this jacket never. Feels like it’s pulling or tugging fits my body absolutely perfect and it’s just. Kind of like i feel like I’m in a way as. Weird as it sounds just kind of wearing my skin and that just is this jacket. Really is. So all right guys there you have it the microlight alpine. To keep them dry when you’re hiking you’ll see that they’ve been well-worn in patagonia and you’ll notice the shape of the pants. Is actually quite articulated so it’s kind of curved shape and there’s also a bit of extra room in the butt make sure that you can step high over obstacles as you’re going finally at the. Very bottom you’ll see there’s actually a hook to hook on to your laces as well. As some zip bungee on the bottom to. Tighten up around your boot another. They have an elastic waist and a draw. Cord as well to keep it just into the. Waste that you want these are size medium I’m typically a size medium and most pants except in those prom pants in. Which case I’m a size small like i. Anyway as is typical with arc’teryx all. The cuts on these pants are is very. Beautifully designed it gives you know you have incredible flexibility it’s very well-made oh no another. Note to make about the gore-tex pack. Light material that better constructive is that they are quite breathable that’s. Something definitely to look for when buying a pair of rain pants though or. Rain gear in general there’s only two. Materials that I’ve found that are actually both waterproof pretty much and. Breathable but mainly breathable and. That is gore-tex and even material and. They’ve you know both have their pros and cons another video anyway so the. Next thing they know is that they also have a they have a waterproof zipper for. The fly as well, and they also have waterproof zippers on the cuffs you know. So that you can easily put these. Pants on or to remove them over a pair. Did real good today breathe real west three-ply gore-tex i got my butt whooped. Today hiking i carry aboard and so i. Didn’t have these cool little alpine touring things that everybody wears around here, and they put these skins on them so i was wearing snowshoes but. Pants breathe real well I’ve got one. Layer underneath them just a little. Lightweight base layer and today it’s. Probably about right now 30 degrees now 25 30 and just a beautiful bluebird day. So some of the cool stuff about these pants we got full zip all the way down it’s got fully taped all the zippers are. Fully taped now pop it here a nice. Little cinch around the waist obviously. It’s got a nice boot cover down here. You can put around your skis ski boots I’ve got my boarding boots on your alpine boots really nice these pants are probably ideal for what. We’re doing today back country hiking. Alpine sewer in all-around pant i warm. Yesterday up at alta to ski for the first time in. 15 years up there anyway great pant. They’re expensive i think they run about 350 to 400 dollars but I’m gonna give these bad. Boys on a nine finger rating just cuz they’re sweet they’ve been good today just a beautiful. Fit snug to your body to wick perspiration so it’s stretchy like a base layer and moves with you there’s one zippered. Pocket on the chest and open hand. Pockets but there is a clip on the inside so you don’t lose your keys the. Hem cinches down if you’re wearing a harness and the arm openings are stretchy, so they won’t inhibit your movements the. Hood snugs around your face and fits well. Under a helmet I’m wearing a small right. Now and it fits well with just a lightweight base layer it’s an athletic fit. So it’s meant to fit tighter than traditional outerwear this is a great. Option for backpacking skiing or climbing when you alternate from highly. Aerobic periods of the day to time at. Different construction here on this piece that makes it an excellent light. Weight base layer for an excellent layering system you’ve got really. Stretchy material here on the arms the hood and on the back but you’ve got insulation right here on the front so. Really great body mapping, and we’ll get into some of the features to break this. Piece down into all of its different. Dimensions starting with the front panel you have polar tech alpha insulation. There’s a really lightweight ripstop. It’s a 7d rip stop material on the front. So you do have a little bit of weather protection a little bit of wind resistance it’s not waterproof by any means but you’ve got that here on the. Front but behind that is your synthetic. Insulation it gives you just enough to keep you warm here on your core and along the side a little bit but it as well. Allows you to breathe as you’re moving in aerobic activity it’s going to wick. Really well and if it does become wet. From perspiration, it’s going to dry out. Really quickly here in the arms across. The back and in the hood you have a really comfortable stretchy nylon spandex knit material it’s high-quality. Polartec power dry so it’s going to wick. Sweat really well it’s really soft on. The inside so it feels great next to skin and this piece also is treated with. An anti odor finish so that’s a great. Feature there going through all the. Features of this jacket starting with a full length zipper you’ve still got. Really lightweight construction there but the ease of being able to take it on and off with that full length zipper. Underneath the hem you have a stretchy draw cord that runs into the side pockets here so if you need to cinch that down really easy to cinch the jacket and on the front you’ve just got three pockets so two nice hand warmer pockets just always. Open pockets there and a small chest. Pocket for items you want to get your hands on quickly you have thumb holes down at the bottom. So the sleeves are definitely long. Enough to accommodate for that just for. Chilly hands if you’re you’re running or hiking and you need a little bit more protection or if you’re wearing gloves or works really well underneath or over. Top of your gloves there is kind of higher collar with this piece so you can. Just zip it up to protect over your face. And there’s a really nice stretchy hood as well again the hood is really soft. Just like the fabric and the arms so if i were to zip that up it forms a really nice seal around my face i can see it. Being great working for running or. Hiking when you just need an extra layer. Of insulation and don’t necessarily want to bring a hat or you know i am wearing. A hat so it works well over top of that as well the stitch lines on the inside. Of the jacket to have a flat seam construction so added comfort there if you’re wearing it next to skin but all. In all the deviator hoody is an excellent balance between a lightweight. Hi i just want to do a quick review. Today of the outdoor research deviator i. Have both the hoodie and the best and. I’m going to show you the difference between the extra-large and the large and the way it fits on me i find that these fit a little bit. Strange so hopefully this video will. Help you decide what size you need when you order it in case you haven’t heard. About the deviator before it’s actually a hybrid coat both the vest and the. Hoodie are actually very similar the only difference really being that one has sleeves and one doesn’t dress the. Construction of the actual code is the. Same but the way the coat is made is you. Can see it has a front panel that’s quilted the coat it is a polar tech. Alpha insulation while the back has a. Polar tech power grid fleece as you know. It’s thin and stretchy and it’s you know. Supposed to be ultra breathable i have. Yet to wear these outside yet so when we. Do hopefully we’ll have another review that’s gonna be a field test of you know exactly how much these breathe as you. Can tell by the name of my channel sweaty hiker i sweat a lot and most. Products can’t keep up with it so hopefully this fall we’re gonna have some products that will actually be able to keep me dry when I’m on my pursuits in colder weather anyway it also has a. Hood which is probably why it’s called the hoodies but even the best has a hood another couple features is in the. Pockets first off the pockets do not have zippers but in the right pocket you. Have a little pull tab which allows you to cinch the bottom and then in the left pocket you have another little doodad to. Clip your keys or anything in there so. That they don’t fall out since they’re not a zippered pocket on the front you. Do have a zippered pocket on the chest but you know that’s the only place you. Have a zipper on that if you need to keep something from falling out when you’re climbing or any other thing like that alright so first before i actually. Put these on first I’d like to say i am mo. 511 six feet depends on the day you know. What I’m saying that’s great who knows and I’m about 195 pounds so as you can. See I’m not overly large not overly. Skinny either so if you’re just kind of. An average dude like me maybe this will. Help you i found the large to be too small and. Too snug so why we put that on right now so you can get a feel for what that. Looks like this is of course the best. And see it is really snug tough on me i. Don’t think i would like that too much some people really like it thin like. That really form-fitting but to me it’s. Not that it was good to my movement because the polartec actually is stretchy but it just feels a little. Constrictive the second thing is you’ll see that when you zip this up it kind of. Gets its tighter on the neck in this so. I would pull it together and zip it up. It still goes it romanek it just again. It feels tight to me and also maybe a. Little self-conscious don’t know but i don’t really think it looks all that great on me either the hood might as well show you know it’s pretty good it’s actually a form-fitting i do like this. When you’re wearing a hat i do not like. It when you’re not wearing a hat the main reason i don’t is because the with this elastic it kind of closes in on. Your face and i can feel them the. Elastics that is on the sides of my eyes. Not a huge fan of that but typically. When i hike i haven’t had on so it’s not an issue for me so that again this is. The size large I’m 195 roughly around the six feet one. All right this is the deviator hoody as. I said before it’s basically the exact. Same thing only with sleeves this is the size. Extra-large so you can see it still fits. Fairly snug it’s not like there’s a lot. Of extra room to play but i feel like it gives me a little bit of extra room play if i was gonna wear something underneath it wouldn’t be really bad. The next sticks up a heck of a lot easier the hood still is nice and tight. So that it’s not gonna blow off in the wind though the hoodie actually has. Thumb holes and you like that kind of thing i personally don’t care but a lot. Of people really find that to be a exceptional feature so there you have it. That’s pretty much all there is for this. Review i mean i will do another follow-up at some point hopefully to. Give you a feel for how this thing performs in the winter and fall and. Spring don’t know when I’m going to do the follow-up and hopefully we’ll get a. Feel for how it wears whether. It’s durable whether it’s you know thin.
