How to Behave In the Woods?

A man in the forest is a guest. And guests do not dictate their rules to the hosts and do not offend them. There are no harmful animals – there are inconvenient for humans. Be prepared to meet insects: mosquitoes, gadflies and midges. And also – with ticks. If you do not have the strength to endure their hospitality, become unpalatable to them with repellents. Snakes, mice, frogs, lizards, worms and other animals that seem dangerous, nasty or useless to you should not be touched. They are part of the forest environment. If any of them are gone, it can be detrimental to the whole system.

You wont pitch your tent on an ant trail – ants wont wake you up with a morning march. Even small predators are likely to avoid you if they hear a human voice. But we dont recommend climbing deep into wild forest for overnight stay. Even DiCaprios character did not like the encounter with a hungry bear.

Polyethylene, rubber, plastic bottles, iron cans and glass should be taken with you and recycled in the city. If you have the strength to carry food, its fair to take the packaging with you. Planning to stay in the woods overnight? Be safe – dont attract predators with food scraps.

No one will pick up trash in the woods for you, so stock up on recycling bins or boxes. And if possible, dont forget to take the uncomposted stuff to the nearest recycling center.

During the warm season, it is forbidden to make a fire in coniferous young trees, in damaged and burnt-out areas of the forest, in peat bogs and in areas of clearings not cleared of wood residues.

In other cases, the place for the fire, if you really need it, should be chosen away from trees and dry grass. When you are sure that the fire can be made in the chosen place, carefully remove the top layer of soil (turf) and put it around the fire. Collect dry branches and dry dead trees for firewood. Do not leave the campfire unattended. After the bricks of turf return it to its place, so that the trail of the fire will be overgrown with grass faster. Before you leave, fill the fire pit with water, shovel the ground with ash, and make sure the fire doesnt rekindle.

Some smokers throw cigarette butts under their feet and dont think of them as trash. But cigarette butts have no place in the forest! If you throw an extinguished cigarette into a pond, it may be swallowed by some large fish, and then the butt will come back to you – together with the food. Besides, a fresh butt smolders and can easily set dry grass on fire. Therefore, it is important to carefully extinguish cigarette butts and take them with you.

Do you want to leave a memory of yourself in the woods? Think 100 times before you carve Vasya was here or Masha + Anton = forever with a knife on a tree trunk. Such harmless pranks can lead to the desiccation of the tree and its colonization by vermin. Do not do so!

Are you itching to keep the cave paintings? Remember, writing with paint on rocks was popular back in the Stone Age and helped people communicate in the absence of messengers, and was therefore considered an indicator of culture. Those days are gone.

It is possible to rest comfortably in the woods without harming nature. Instead of spruce lapnik under the tent it is better to use a tourist mat, instead of household chemicals – sand, dry mustard, twigs of horsetail or sedge, fallen leaves. They well wash dishes, can be easily washed away with water and do not harm the pond and your skin. If you want to break the record of Villaribo and Villabajo, stock a collapsible waterproof bucket made of synthetic materials and pour the rest of the soapy water into the soil away from the shore. Youll need that bucket for water procedures, too. Reusable utensils and equipment will serve you and the forest well, but disposable plastic will not.

Useless things like old sneakers or bent arcs from your tent are unlikely to be needed at campsites, but you cant leave them in the woods, can you? Hazardous waste, like batteries and rechargeable batteries, should not be thrown away! Neither in the forest, nor in the city. The only right option is to take them to a recycling center.

Moderation has never hurt anyone. Even the most beautiful plant you pick will wither in a couple of days. It is much better in the woods than at home in a vase. And it is inconvenient to carry it with you out of the woods, it is easier to take a picture and go home light. And even more so, endangered plants should not be plucked, its against the law. To bring a rare species to its death is a dubious pleasure… To make a long story short: do not take more from the forest than is really necessary.

These general recommendations will help you organize recreation in the forest without damaging yourself and nature. And on especially valuable natural areas, in nature reserves and national parks, it is important to follow the rules of ecological tourism.

Forest

Forests are a great treasure for the planet. Throughout humankinds existence, they have purified the air, kept the soil from eroding, and are home to animals. This is why special rules have been created to protect them.

Basic rules

It is everyones duty to preserve nature. That is why our task is to minimize damage to the environment, because we ourselves suffer from it.

A healthy ecosystem is rich in species, but it is also a danger to campers. Although wild animals rarely attack people, no one can rule out the possibility of running into a ravenous predator. Then a vacation in nature can turn into a negative experience. Thus, compliance is directly related to human safety.

But animals are not the only danger. Quiet members of the flora pose a much more tangible threat. Unfamiliar berries, bushes, attractive but poisonous mushrooms. You cant let this vegetation fool you. It is easy to mistake them for safe ones, but the consequences can be dire.

Mushrooms are sometimes called the sanitarians of the thicket because they break down toxins and regulate the composition of the soil. Roughly speaking, they absorb harmful substances like a sponge, making them dangerous to eat. Therefore, before indulging in a mushroom soup in nature, read carefully whether a particular mushroom can be used for eating.

Also check where it grows. Mushrooms that grow near contaminants should not be eaten. The same applies to those species that grow near poisonous ones, because they absorb all their toxins and poisons.

Safe conduct in the forest

What to do if youre going on vacation in the countryside:

  • it is necessary to warn your relatives where you are going;
  • Be sure to take matches, a knife, a watch, and a compass;
  • Take food and water in reserve;
  • Wear bright clothes, preferably with reflectors;
  • designate and make a route in advance;
  • If a companion is lost, there is no need to panic, just call a rescue team right away;
  • Be sure to bring the necessary medicine, bandages, and iodine.

Observe etiquette as well:

Dont leave trash behind.

If you are left with too much waste, then bury it in the ground.

Dont leave glass splinters behind, or better yet, dont break any bottles at all. You can not only endanger the forest dwellers, but also hurt yourself.

Be extremely careful about building a fire:

Do not build fires near trees;

If you see a place for a campfire, you dont need to create a new one;

Before you go home, put out the remains of the fire behind you;

What are the rules of conduct in the forest for?

Unfortunately, the ecosystem is quite fragile, and many factors can destroy its stability. Animals are sensitive to the presence of humans and in most cases prefer to observe strangers in their territory. Care should be taken to be friendly, as this may mean that the animals see you as a food source in the future.

Norms are created to avoid such situations. Urbanization has a huge impact on wildlife and pets. For example, in America, raccoons have learned to find food in garbage.

Human food and household food are dangerous for animals. The fact is that the digestive and nervous systems of animals are not arranged in the same way as in humans. And if something is safe for humans, it does not mean that animals can eat the same foods.

Plastic bags, plates, spoons and forks – all this can seem edible to animals and lead to poisoning or death, because the body is not adapted to digest such substances. And as we know, they take 50 to 300 years to decompose! Thus, compliance not only protects people, but also the ecosystem as a whole.

Rules of conduct in the forest for children

If you go to nature for the first time with children (especially important for preschoolers), you must first instruct them so they know how to behave. Here are some rules:

  • children should always be with their parents;
  • Never try berries and mushrooms that you find;
  • You cant shout loudly unless you have to;
  • If its raining with a thunderstorm, then on no account take out your phone;
  • harm to nature – to ruin nests, anthills, break branches;
  • to touch animals, because they may be sick;
  • Do not feed the animals from your hands.

Instruct your preschool children! They must be supervised!

Rules of conduct in the woods in winter

Hiking in winter requires careful preparation, so new rules are added to the previously given:

  • Choose the right clothes.
  • Be sure to bring a thermos with warm drinks (tea, coffee).
  • First of all, choose a safe place for yourself. It should protect you from the wind and the cold.
  • Make a fire. Pay attention to the depth of the snow: if it is shallow, then dig a hole for the fire, if deep – then build a deck of logs (branches).
  • Position the sleeping place 30 centimeters from the fire.

Responsible approach to the rules of conduct in nature guarantees a charge of vivacity and joy, regardless of the season!

Rules of conduct in the forest memo

Remember the main norms:

  • Inform your loved ones about your hike. If you get lost, they will be looking for you.
  • Determine in advance the parking place and the time when you plan to return home. Try not to get scattered.
  • Take everything you need: a compass, matches, a knife, a watch, and a cell phone (if you have a connection). In view of todays reality, you should also bring a portable charger.
  • Prepare more food.
  • Grab some extra clothes.
  • Keep the matches in a bag so they dont get wet when it rains.
  • Wear bright clothes so you dont blend in with the terrain. If anything happens, it will make it easier to find you.
  • In advance, mark your landmarks: streams, roads, or possibly settlements.

By following these simple rules, you can have an unforgettable time and get a lot of emotions. Let this memo be with you.

Trash after picnics in the woods

Many people wonder what to do if a hike lasts several days and there is nowhere to dispose of the trash. In fact, you cant carry it around with you. But there are a few best practices.

The first thing we recommend is to replace plastic bags with paper bags. Paper can be used for lighting the fire. Also give preference to reusable utensils so you dont have to throw away plastic.

Plastic waste must never be buried or incinerated! Plastic is poisonous to soil and animals. Moreover, it is also flammable and can cause a fire. Take non-organic substances out with you.

This is all called the culture of outdoor recreation. You have to teach it to yourself, and then you have to teach it to your children. It doesnt matter if they are in first grade or tenth. Everyone should know etiquette!

What to do if you get lost?

In this situation, you should not panic and run for your life. You need to stand still and calm down, and then call for help. If you are not found, its time to call the rescue team on 112. Try to describe your surroundings in as much detail as possible; they will help you get out of the thicket.

Knowing the parts of the world will be a plus. At noon sharp, turn your back to the sun. Your shadow will indicate the direction of north, east will be to the right, and west will be to the left.

The situation is complicated by the absence of a telephone. In this case, try to listen for sounds. If you hear voices, road noise or other signs of people, move there. If you cannot hear anything, try to find a stream, it will lead you to a river, and where there is a river, there are people.

In a situation where you cant find your way, its best to start preparing for the night. Build a simple tent out of twigs and try to build a fire.

Responsibility for violation of the rules of conduct in the forest

According to the Forest Code of the Russian Federation, violators of the law are not only administratively, but also criminally liable for the crimes committed. Thus, citizens who have caused damage to forests are obliged to reimburse the damage. Otherwise, a lawsuit will be filed against them:

  • Illegal hunting threatens the offender with a fine of 200,000 rubles or arrest for six months.
  • Destruction of habitats of animals included in the Red Book is punishable by a fine of 500,000 rubles or arrest for up to 3 years.
  • The offender will have to pay up to 500 000 rubles or be imprisoned for up to 2 years for unauthorized cutting of trees.
  • Destruction of forest areas is assessed with a fine of 400,000 rubles or arrest for up to 3 years.

Remember that nature is a source of life not only for humans, but also for animals. Our task is to protect and preserve it, not destroy it!
