Hi and welcome to simply hike dot com uk this is the coleman 48 quart cooler combo. This is ideal if you’re out, camping or hiking or even if you just want to go out on a family day trip. It includes three parts: the large chest: cooler which holds 45 liters, a jug which is 1 2 liters and a flip lid cooler, which is 4 7 liters.

Both these two items slot into this main compartment easily. So you can take all three of the items out wherever you go, I’m going to take a look at the main chest, cooler now in more detail. I’m just going to push these aside, so we can see it’s made from a really nice hard wearing material. So it’s really nice and strong and will long last a long a long time.

It has these really nice easy grip handles which make the product really easy to move around and store, and we also have a drainage system at the front here, which you can take the lid off and get rid of any of that excess, liquid or fluid that might retain at the bottom of the box. I’m just going to open the lid now to show you the inside, as you can see, it’s really easy to open and just to give you an idea of the size, it’s really really nice and big.

You can fit these two items in and still have enough room to fit other items in. If you wish to and again that material is really hard and long lasting next thing. We’re going to take a look at is the jug. This jug holds up to 1 2 liters, so it’s perfect for cold liquids or even soups that you wish to warm up later on, and it has an easy grab handle that again, you can move around easily makes it extremely lightweight as well.

We also have a flip lid on the front which you can pull back like so, and this will stop any spillage from the flask and all you do. Is you just simply twist the lid to open up the flask, so there we have the jug to get a look now at the flip lid cooler here. Has a nice big handle again easy to move around and you can flip that down as well, make it more compact and easy to store I’m just going to open the lid now, so you can have a look at the inside again, really nice size, 4, 7 meters it can hold up to, and I just want to show you a really nice feature about this box as well- is that it has a flip lid structure.

So you just simply push this down and you can slide it across like so and there you see, we have two cup holders and a main tray that you can use to put all your bits and bobs on so overall we have a really nice coleman, cooler, combo here at simply hike dot, co, dot, uk or visit us in store at favor shim.

Review of the Coleman 54 quartz steel-belted cooler. Now this is my first personal coleman cooler. However, my parents have had a coleman cooler for as long as I’ve been camping, so 25 plus years and I’ll be comparing this particular their newest variant to their 25 plus year old, Holman 54 quart cooler, which I’ll bring on camera a little later right. Now we’re looking at the current very this is the 2017 inch version. What you get with the 2017 version is a cooler that is 18 9 pounds, so you figure like 19 pounds.

You have a length of 22 and a half with a height of 13 and a half. Now the cooler itself is steel belted up on top, but it is plastic on the bottom. The top is also metal, which is nice. All the steel parts are supposed to be rust resistant now compared to the older version. This is actually textured as well as the top, so it gives a little bit of not totally flat surface so take that what it is speaking of I know when I was a kid I used to sit on top of the cooler I still kind of do that with this one, so you can think of it as being able to hold up to a hundred and fifty pounds bottom here really quick.

Like I said it is a plastic construction. You have the grating there, so you will scratch that up quite a bit depending on where you drag this now. One of the cons of this particular type of cooler is that it does not have wheels, so you will have to use the handles on the side to drag it around. Now. If you, the cooler bearer or like I, was when I was a kid. This gets kind of heavy once it’s full, so you might might need two people if you’re younger grown adult.

This should be no problem. So, let’s take a quick look at the side handles that I was talking about. These are stainless steel, construction with rubberized grips, and so, when you drop them, they don’t make a lot of noise and, unlike hold up that’s where you’re stopping now locking mechanism right here just twist it open it up right there. This is a little different than the one I had in the past, where that was kind of a claw. This is more of a steel bullet that sits in your top portion here again plastic to cover up all the mechanisms, but it is easy to disassemble that top portion there in order to take a look at the locking mechanism.

If you need it too, now I’m gonna back that up a little bit and you will notice over here. So there are some scratches now those are actually battle scars that had just got during the recording. So just note that if it lands on asphalt, it will get scratched up. However, not really dinged up all that much just scratched the black paint off the bottom here has a bit of an abrasion. Now too, but again it holds up to the testament of it falling out of the back of my car and being perfectly fine, alright taking a quick look inside, it is a bit difficult to see because of the shadows.

However, you are looking at interior dimensions of 18 5 in length, 10 5 width and having a usable height of 10 inches now, I, say usable, because you have this lip right here, which you can have two racks on, so you don’t want to stack it that high now they say it’s supposed to be able to hold 85 canned beverages. Now here, you’ll see an image of four 12-pack sodas inside here and not that much space, so I’m not entirely sure how you get 85 cans plus ice in here.

So I, don’t know coming down to the bottom here. This is something that I do appreciate over my parents, one which is having trouble focusing, but there is a channel in there to help lead the water towards the spigot, but the spigot I have complaints about top of the cooler. There doesn’t look too bad I do like this they’ve increased the channel lip so when you actually close it more of that lip sits inside the cooler and there’s a top view of the cooler so it’ll, lock in that cold temperature, alright, so different location, but did forget to mention about the here’s, the back of the steel wrapping here, more plastic, but the hinges themselves as compared to the older model.

These were plastic cat, not included, but she’s back there try and pay attention. The hinges are not plastic like they were on the original model. This piece here used to wear out a lot on the older model. It’s the only problem that I had with the older model, but if we look at it from the side here when we open it up, there’s that little stopgap right there, which will actually prevent the cooler lid from flopping all the way open. Now these are really easy to replace you just unscrew them and you can get a new one put them back on if, for whatever reason they break alright.

So here you can see it next to its 25 year old cousin here now what I was talking about with the handles on the old one he’s just kind of twisting around and flip I hated these when I was younger. The handles on this one goes straight up and down, and they don’t move at all now where I did say that they skimped with the new version versus an old version. Is the water plug on this one? Once you pick up the water plug it’s this hinged mechanism, so it stays put and the water just drips out, and you don’t have to get wet on this one, the new version, it’s just a little latch, so you can see it kind of flopping around there.

So if you get a full stream of water coming out, this guy you’re gonna get splashed, because it’s going to hit the cap here come on. Call me what’s up with that. This is 25 years old has a better mechanism that I personally have seen hold up to time. Much better than presumably this is this is just will fall off, I’m assuming after you know a couple of years, but still 25, plus years and still they’re, probably not gonna last as well, and it’s just a little gripe but come on the new Coleman 54 court.

Steel-Belted cooler here comes in several colors, which I will link below, most of which will change the price of this give or take like five or ten dollars. The only one that was really weird was the turquoise color currently comes with a bottle cap, it’s retro, so it’s more expensive and a lot more expensive. So, speaking of Christ, how much are you looking to pay for this group? Well, depending on sales? You can get it anywhere from 83 to 65 dollars now I’m not doing any like ice tests for you mainly because one it depends basically on where you keep the cooler.

What temperature is it on? So there’s too many variables to tell you how good of a cooler this is just know. It is better than your dollar store cooler. So you you get what you pay for. Your ice will last much longer than in something like that. So if you’re willing to spend a little extra money, I would highly suggest taking a look at the Coleman 54 quartz steel-belted cooler here. I know it’s a bit of a jump in price to pay for something like this, but it’s well worth it and get that 25 year old clothes coolers any indication as to how long this is gonna.

Took the st Louis: we use this cooler here in the middle. We use this because this cooler here this Coleman extreme, which does amazing with keeping ice five or more days and basically any temperature- it’s just too big. It was way too big for what we were gonna need. So we decided that we wanted something smaller now, so we borrowed this Igloo cooler from my parents and this Igloo cooler is a 48 quart.

It’s usa-made, it’s a 76 cans and it’s supposed to retain ice for three days. You can see some of the information right here on the tag. So anyway, we loaded this up. Everything that we put in this cooler was pre chilled, and then we put two 10-pound bags of ice in there. So 20 pounds of ice and I would say after day two it was pretty much water. There wasn’t any ice left, so we were a little disappointed in that, even though we were just borrowing it, we thought it would do better.

I can tell you that you could feel like coolness coming from the cooler like kind of radiating from the bottom here, which I don’t know if that was just because a lack insulation or what, but not too impressed with that. So because I had such good luck with that Coleman. On the end, this Coleman extreme I just decided to go with this one here and I’m gonna try this one out this week and see how it works.

Now this one also says it keeps ice for three days, but that’s at a temperature of 90 degrees and it’s a little bit smaller 36 quart and there’s your information also made in United States. So I like this one I like the color I picked it out myself. I like the green and like I, said it is a Coleman product, so it should do pretty well, the top does come off. There are no hinge handles a handle, hide or hinges on I should say the glue does have like hinge on it, but I don’t know that’s pretty chintzy to this igloo over here.

In the end, we like this one, it’s just that! It’s kind of oddly shaped it’s really deep. So that’s why I kind of wanted to get one this size, which would be good for like day trips and that type of thing, and it’s not so deep, it’s a little bit wider, which makes more sense for packing stuff. This igloo does amazingly well with keeping ice it also little double as a seat. You can sit on this top part.

We use this a lot of times to is a day a day trip, it’s got a handle on top and it also has kind of like a molded handle on the side. So it’s it’s pretty good igloo, for the most part, makes good products this one over here, though, just not really impressed with the the three days, so we’ll, hopefully get much better results with this Coleman here this cooler I picked up at Sears and I, paid out the door with tax and everything 19 bucks, so I didn’t think that was too bad for a Coleman product.

Alright, so here we go, I got it all packed up, and this is like I said this is gonna, be for my out-of-town work trip that I’m doing here so and it’s packed basically the same type of way of what we had. There’s a gallon jug of water down at the bottom right here. There’s a bunch of like stuff everything’s been pre pre chilled are pre cooled. It was in a refrigerator, got some drinks down in here.

Those also were in the refrigerator, so everything was cold. The only difference is instead of two pegs two bags ice in the cooler like the igloo. This one only has one big ice just because that’s all that would fit so three days we’ll check back in and we’ll see where we’re at with it. I’m assuming it should do pretty good, but that a glue one like I said: that’s supposed to be a three days holds ice and it didn’t so we’ll see how it goes.

Alright, so we’re at day three I do have a refrigerator in the room, so I took everything out, except for the drinks, just because I didn’t have space in the little mini, fridge and after day three we have nothing but water. So it’s little pretty cold water, but yeah no ice and honestly, when I got home last night from work, which was a little after 10:00 p m, which would be day two. There was no ice left at that point.

Either I checked it and I really have an open, open debt at all. It’s been closed. This entire time, so I’m not sure how you get the three days all right. So here it is ice storage at 90 degrees. Fahrenheit keeps the ice for three days so not sure why I didn’t make it usually Coleman makes a pretty good product but, like I, said the the igloo coolers well, that one did not keep the ice as well for three days that it said it would three days keeps ice and it’s supposed to be at 90 degrees.

It says: I have the air conditioning set in the room. 268 so I mean it’s been in in the hotel here, since I moved in so I’m, not sure exactly how how it didn’t keep ice. So I kind of thought that this would do better than that igloo cooler. That said, it was good for three days like that one we had in the car on our road trip and that didn’t do well at all, either that seemed to eat up the ice right away.

So I do like the size of this cooler, though it’s a perfect size for traveling I, like the fact that the handles are molded in so you have no no chance of the handle breaking off so and when this thing was fully loaded, it wasn’t too much two left feet and it seemed like it was taxed, and this hotel actually doesn’t have an elevator, so I actually had to walk it up a flight of stairs to second floor here.

So alright. So what we learned is, though, these three-day coolers just do not seem to hold ice for three days. This one had gotten every advantage possible to keeping it. It was in a temperature much less than 90 degrees Fahrenheit, and it still did not keep ice. This one I would say was closer to that 90 degrees each day, but also didn’t keep ice, but I don’t know if they say specifically at 90 degrees.

So that might be something you want to look in to that. The Coleman one says specifically 90 degrees. So what we’re looking at getting next for a cooler is a Coleman extreme 54 court. So this one’s a 62 and has the wheel and, like I, said it’s a little bulky. It’s just a little too long. 54 is I think come somewhere in here, so they’re a little bit shorter, which is good, there’s the same width, same height and everything like that, but that one’s just a little too big for what we for what we use it for it’s.

A great cooler keeps ice, but we’re gonna be looking at getting a 50 for Court. There definitely is price differences, like I said that Coleman on the end I paid like $19 at Sears for and this one we got as a wedding gift years ago. Almost 14 years ago and I want to say that one was like 70 bucks or something it was a lot of money. We obviously we didn’t pay for it. We got as a wedding gift, but when we registered for it I, remember it being a very pricey cooler and the igloo here I think my parents said they paid about 25 bucks for that and the one on the end.

I think that was right. Around 20 as well so I’ll keep you updated once I do get that new Coleman I’ll do a little video on that one as well. It’s always good to have some coolers, especially if you’re doing anything where you need to keep stuff cool.
