Here’s just a quick video showing some lifeguard against the Grigri – I’d seen a lot of videos out. There were, but nothing it was really kind of a closeup comparison. My name is Justin Roth and I’m with Petzl. The Grigri – is a great choice for whether your top roping or your lead, climbing in the gym or at the crags. The assistant braking function, makes a lot of the functions of belaying much much more pleasant to perform. We’re almost to 25 years. Since the original gris-gris was launched by far the best-known most visible belay device that that we have made the difference in weight and size is the Grigri ii model is smaller and 20% lighter than the original gris-gris.
A wider range of ropes, including going to a much smaller diameter than the original gris-gris, did down to 8 9, it’s more in keeping with the types of ropes that people are using today and with a new handle, lowering mechanism that makes it easier to gradually release the rope and make a really smooth lower. It’s a more pleasant kind of all-around belaying experience, in my opinion, for the majority of users that are looking to get their first or second belay device to be fair.
If your goal is to do a lot of multi-pitch climbing, this probably shouldn’t be your first blade of ice, slash only belay device, because you can’t do a double rope rappel.
