About the ion ice auger as ice fishing seasons coming up, you may be looking around for a new auger and I would highly recommend the ion. Also, it’s a lot quieter, but so I gives you the battery, be fully charging you get about 40 holes out of two in two feet of ice, which is it’s really that’s pretty nice and you can get another battery, but uh you can just tell started up how quiet is compared to gas, augers and one thing about this: you don’t have to pull start it like you would on any other auger it’s.

Basically, it runs like a drill. You got your trigger. Just pull that. To start with, one thing nice about ion is that there’s a reverse button on it so say: you’re drilling a hole. You can actually flip the switch after you get down below the ice into reverse and should push most of the slush that comes up the hole down. So you really don’t have to clean it out as much as you would for any other auger.

So just start the auger. You pull the trigger, let her go reverse buttons on this side. Turnovers and I’ll show you how it goes so start it in Reverse and it’s as easy as that kick away the swash. You got a nice hole. They are a little spend year, but I think they’re worth the money by a long shot. So ions are actually 22 pounds. I think they said you can get eight-inch and 10-inch holes and they might have a six inch now.

– I have an 8 inch just because I do a lot of pan fishing and I don’t fish for a lot of lake trout, northern pike, but you you’re the 10 inch of your fish and something bigger but I. Think it’s just as fast my channel video of electric versus gas augers. My buddy thinks that his gas hog is the way to go which, before I got high on last year. Hi Joshua fish addictions here today, I’m down in Cumberland Wisconsin, with Ben Jerry, the product manager for the ion line of ice augers Ben. Why don’t you tell us a little bit about what makes the ion auger such a great unit to get you through the ice in the wintertime? Well, I. Think one of the best functions we have is just that.

It’s lightweight you know very easy transporting to and from your ice fishing spot and from hole to hole. That’s number one number two would be the actual cutting apparatus itself. These blades were. We went through 17 different iterations of these blades and bottom end, designed to make sure we got the exact performance.

We’re looking for one of the key elements of that is recutting. You know frozen holes, that’s where this one really excels. Above you know some of the competition’s designs and auger bottoms. Another great feature of this is the reverse and a lot of people I. Think mistake the reverse, as you know, something to get you unstuck.

How you folks court Peyser here game-changer we talk about game changers, all the time, and so often the words overused I’m gonna show you a game changer today, that’s out of this world and the way I got into this was actually last year, buddy Jeff Simpson from n fishermen, television Jeff, came up to film with me. We were filming in a lake trout, ice fishing show and Jeff came up and- and we spent the time three days on the ice, had spectacular action and every hole we drilled was with the auger that Jeff had brought, and it was one of the ion electrics and I was so impressed.

I’ve never been I, can’t think of anything in the last 10 15 years. Ice fishing wise that impressed me more than that ion Electric ice auger. So let me tell you why this thing is a game-changer number one. It runs on, obviously electricity and here’s what it runs on, believe it or not. Forty volts. That’s a 40 volt five amp battery. Now, if you’re into tournament fishing bass fishing, the tournament walleye crowd, you know that the boats these days, everyone is moving to the single battery little single lithium, 36, volt batteries, and essentially that’s what this is absolutely phenomenal power.

It’s it’s amazing power. The other thing that’s so neat about it is it doesn’t D a discharge when it discharges as it’s getting lower and lower. You don’t notice that when your drill, it’s always full peak power until it runs out of power and running out of power. This is what impressed me so much. Last year when Jeff was up, there was four of us. Each day we were fishing six to eight. We were runnin and gunnin and we fish six to eight different locations and for four of us on six to eight locations we probably drill 10 to 15, maybe even 20 holes at some locations we fished the whole day, – 22, -, 25 below, and we never ran out of power.

Now that was last year. I’ve got right. Here is the newer edition, and that’s that 40 amp hour, sorry 40, volt, 5 amp battery. This will drill 1 600 inches of ice on a single charge if it’s incredible, but here’s even better. Yet when I pack, this I, throw it in the back of the truck I, don’t put it in the bed of the truck I, actually put it on the back seat. There’s no gasoline to mix I’m, not spilling gas inside the car I bring it into the house, believe it or not.

I store it in the furnace room. So it’s always thought out. I’m, not worrying about gasoline I’m, not worrying about fumes when I walk and pull the sleigh or I’ve got my snow machines and I’m pulling the sleigh at the end of the day, if I’ve kept a few fish and I put them in the sleigh as well. I’m not worrying about gasoline tainting my fish, because it’s fully electric now here’s the other thing- and this is so impressive.

When you start the gas ones you’re it you have to mix the gas, usually unless you’re using four-stroke. So it’s mixed gas you’re, always taking gas with you and the problem with the gas is spilling on the ice. You get a little bit of water in it, ethanol and, and it just drives two-stroke and four-stroke small motors crazy. You don’t have to worry about any of that anymore and here’s the thing you started up now.

I stopped before going through for a real important reason and the reason is the cutting edge on these. Normally, when you cut with a normal auger, you always know at the end when you’re gonna go through, and that’s because that last inch or two it always catches and then boom you go through on this new ion this Center cutting system. It goes through and it’s actually easier on the last couple of inches than it is on the beginning and watch how simple this is when I go through incredible.

It just goes through so smoothly, no jagged edges. So when I’m in the hut here, we drill out the holes and there’s no jagged edges to catch the line. The other neat thing on the hole here when we’re inside the hut is we’ve got reverse on this. There’s a reverse switch. So, instead of having to scoop all the slush out of the hole as I’m drilling, all the slush under the ice and my hole is perfectly clean.

Two other really cool features. If you’re drilling we like to stay right until dark, we always get that late walleye bite from about 4:30 to 5:30, so we’re drilling holes in the dark one of the really cool features. It’s got an LED light underneath it here. So when you drill the light comes on and it actually shot, you’ve got a spotlight on the ice, showing you where you’re drilling. The other thing you might be wondering is how much charge do I have left in the battery and right at the back.

Here you simply press the button. I’ve got fully charged. I got all my bars on this three bars. Three green bars I’m good to go for 1600 inches of ice. One more super important point, as you know, if you’re fishing on a spot and say I’m, gonna drill, eight or ten holes here as I walk from hole to hole to hole with the gas engines, one of the problems is you’re walking and you’ve got a gas motor and it’s running, and these power takeoffs are incredibly.

The torque on them is amazing. A very good friend of mine last year, in a very very cold day, he’s got his wet mint on a gas-powered. Auger he’s walking now to drill another hole. The engine kept turning and his hand was locked on it. He almost broke his wrist and if you watch the video there was a fellow on Lake Winnipeg last year, very same thing happened: a wet glove gas auger, he was walking from hole to hole with the engine running his hand was frozen to it.

It tore the tendons and ligaments out of his fingers and out of his wrist and they had to airlift and take him to hospital. None of that happens with the electric motor 23 pounds. It’s absolutely incredibly light, and it’s on demand power. You walk from hole to hole and the only time you need to start it presses the button as I say, probably in the last 10 years. Nothing has impressed me more.

Hello, everyone and welcome to dan dust up today. We’re gonna do an ice auger with the eight inch bit. Here’s what it comes in a box like so let’s crack this open figure out the best way to do this, I’m going to say side all right. Let’s get at it. Okay, all right, styrofoam, that’s good! It has all the details on the box about what it can do. I’ll read it off. Really quick has a range of 1600 inches on one charge of the battery 8 inch bit, as I said, 40 inches and weighs 23 pounds, which is light in comparison to a gas auger or a propane auger.

I’ve never used an electric auger before my life. I’ve always used gas, and just recently I used propane, which was cool, got to experience that, but now I mean elec electric’s, where it’s at clean got the instructions right here comes with an allen wrench. What do we got all right? Here’s our blade first impressions paint, looks nice. I like that it has a cap cover that comes with it. Oh, this is cool all right, nice and sharp.

I like this right here that that’s nice and easy to get on that cover. That’s slick, all right. What else we got here? Here’s the battery doesn’t weigh much at all. I mean really light comes with a charger. We have a charger right here. Awesome and here is the head top. So bizarre. I’ve never seen anything like this. This is so cool a little dusty, but okay. This is where the battery goes on. Locks in here. Put that bit on says the safety switch right here and then you can pull the trigger to go.

Also has reverse: it has lights two lights on the bottom: how cool is that? Okay? I know I’ve seen some other reviews where they’re talking about the handles were kind of janky or weak, and yes, they’re plastic. That’s going to make it nice and light all right. Well looks cool! I’m excited to use this thing, I’m going to get that battery charged up and get this thing put together and see what it can do in the ice. Here we are on lake minnetonka.

I got my battery all charged up according to the instructions you plug. The charger in put the battery on and this took two hours to get it fully charged right out of the box. Now it’s about 32 degrees, 33 degrees here in minnesota. Right now it is gosh, zero, wind and gorgeous. Let’s see what this ion r1 can do in on ice electric auger. I don’t even know what to expect. So you got the safety switch right here, pull the trigger, oh pretty cool.

I I mean it had plenty of torque to get it down there. It was good my daughter’s gotta check it out. What do you think honey good yeah? What do you think of it? Harley good? Well, the girls agree they like it. I wonder how many holes I can actually do with it. It says 1600 inches I mean I can just go nuts and see put it to a test, but all in all, I’m very impressed with the ion r1 auger. Well, that was surprisingly fun using this auger for the first time.

I didn’t know what to expect. I didn’t do the 50 holes in the ice. I think that’s what it would have came out to be to do 1600 inches of ice based on how thick the ice was that I was drilling through, but I did try some different things where I did it like the diamond or the triangle where I tried to drill one hole, another hole in another hole all next to each other, so I could get one big hole. That’s what I like to do when I go lake, trout, fishing and one thing that I did notice when doing that is it did bog down a little bit once you got into that slop and trying to get that different angle, but all in all, very very, very impressed with this ion r1 ice auger.

It drilled very smooth, had plenty of torque plenty of power to do it. I actually had my wife try she’s, never used to auger in her life at all, and she was able to do it just impressed that a battery-powered auger can do the trick. Now I’m interested to see kind of what it’ll do when I take it up north and put it through some different tests, different environments where it’s super cold. I read about the fact that if you are transporting it, maybe across a lake or doing anything like that on a snowmobile or a atv or side by side or something like that, you take the battery off and put it in a cooler and put like hand warmers in there to keep the battery warm.

So when you’re not using it, keep it in there keeps the battery warm, so it lasts long. I can imagine if you did not do that. You would not get many holes drilled in the ice. Also, the one thing I read about in the instructions it says to charge the battery when you’re done. What I did is I took the battery off, threw it on the charger charge it because I’m going to be storing it now for the winter. We are done ice fishing here in minnesota right now.

Another thing that I might want to do to this is it: has this hex key right here, hex screw bolt to take the auger bit off. I might try to find a different bit to where it has maybe a c clamp that can go over it. So then I don’t always have to carry that hex tool around with me to remove it and put it back on just then I can wheel it on and off and maybe figure out a way that I can make something. So I can hold this on my snowmobile and transport.

It a lot easier when I’m going out on the lake seriously, though impressed with the ion r1 auger with the 8 inch bit I’d like to see what the 10 inch would do with this super satisfied with this. So that’s a slush slush free, it’s not bad! It took me a while to figure out the reverse gear. What you do is when you poke it through the hole, oh yeah, when you’re down in the hole and you broke it through. Then you hit the reverse and takes everything that you brought up and it shoves it down. And then you put a I’ve been putting it forward as I’m, bringing it up to get anything extra up and out of the hole and actually now that I figured that out, it is actually pretty nice and the scooping looks pretty minimal.

So consider subscribing I want to preface that I’m, not an ice fishing expertise. Here was my first year. This is the only ice auger I’ve ever had so you know, I made the title to drive traffic here and I. Do, however, I do believe that it’s it’s quality, an electric ice auger like there’s, there’s no doubt about it, but you know and I looked at the prices, it’s pretty competitive for electric ice augers. So this is the best I don’t know. I haven’t used ten different electric ice loggers.

You know I I don’t have to teen years ice fishing under my belt Wow, but I do think that it’s a pretty quality its quality machine that works well and is reliable. So what I’m going to do in this video is just talk about some of the benefits, some of the cons, so the pro some of the cons and then I’ll put in I got this in January, like mid-january and in January last year, and so I was ice. Fishing all through you know end of January, February, beginning of March and so I have so that ice was I’m in western Maine, so that ice was usually about two feet thick.

This thing shredded like butter. It was awesome, so I have clips of me just shredding ice and you’ll see how quickly it is. It’s pretty effortless it’s you know. So, let’s talk about it. This is the eye on eight meaning. It’s an eight-inch blade I’m not going to take the safety cap off, but that blade is eight inches long now you know, looking back I would an idiot. Well as all you really need 12 inches. You know because I’m throwing you know, you know I’m, throwing you a fish finder unit down there and looking for fish, so I have the fish finder unit as well as my rod and I feel.

Like maybe 12 would be you all. I need is an 8, but I would have felt better with a 12-inch blade and they make it 12 inch model. So you can get that as well. Well, it’s not 12 inch models, 12 inch blade, so you can buy the the model of the 12 inch blade. That’s not a big deal, so it here’s your things, your safety and your bottles are here and then it has a reverse flushing system. You click that and then into throttle and it spins in Reverse which is sort of in a while. You know I didn’t know if it was a gimmick or not.

First, you know III know if it was really beneficial and it is kind of nice, though, when you’re going through two feet of ice and there’s especially there’s snow you’re gonna get a lot of snow on that that ice that hole, and so what I’ll do is I’ll keep it forward and I’ll push all that ice up. All the snow, pile the loose snow under the ice and then I’ll go and reverse and bring it up, and it does clear out a lot of this slush I mean you still have to scoop it. It’s not perfect. You will stop the scoop, but if there’s fresh snow I would recommend bringing a little shovel and just shoveling, you know the area you’re gonna hold you’re gonna drill, so that is, it comes with an extension.

I never had to use the extension, but it comes with the extension it’s here. It comes with a 40 volt lithium-ion battery, which I can’t find right, calf, some kind of freaking out a little bit. I, don’t know where would be in my apartment, I’m kind of nervous about this and and one of the I suppose one of the cons would be like you would put the battery you’d slide it in here, which is pretty effortless, and then it’s got a rubber strap to clamp it down when you’re, putting it on the ice and picking it up and putting it in your sled I.

Never it’s not like it ever I was like a lot. This thing comes up loose on, you know it comes loose all the time or it just lodges all the time, but I kind of wish. There was a more secure piece there, so you just have to pay attention to your battery. It’s never popped out. I didn’t lose it because, like I can’t find it’s not my battery isn’t missing because it fell out on the ice. I know I have it in my apartment somewhere, I just don’t know where I put it. It’s conceived me forever to find it, but that is really the one con I have about.

This thing is that this I just feel I wish there was just a more secure way to keep your battery intact. It’s pretty light. I’d have to say this is like not even 20 pounds. I, don’t know what the exact I’ll try and again I’m, not getting super specific I’m eating. Unboxing video well I’ll, try and find it post it later, but it’s pretty like and then it’s not that heavy at all. It’s really, you know, I have this in my sled with my tent and all my fishing gear. Some big deal now: that’s really there’s not much more to say about it.

That blade is really sharp. I would always keep the cap on when you’re not using it or moving it. You know like the enjoyer whole set it down, but if you’re gonna pick it up and move it out, put your previous cap on it because I, like the third day out I, had a brand new striker ice bibs like top-of-the-line and I. Had this in my sled and the sled I’d ran into my ankle and it just sliced my it sliced my sticks, which I really regret that, but it can potentially be dangerous. So I would cap that up as far as the noise I wish I hear on the video.

It’s not me whines! It’s not that loud I mean guys using gas pumps. I can hear them halfway across the lake. This isn’t that loud. As far as battery life, the standard battery the 40 volt I kidded on a full charge, comfortably cut without worrying at all 50 holes easily 2 feet 2 feet 50 holes at 2 feet now, so that’s 100, 100 foot of ice comfortably, not so comfortably 75 I, wouldn’t count on cutting more than 75 holes with this. But even when the battery’s, low and it’ll it’ll, like crank, stop crank, stop crank, it’ll, still punch through the ice and it’ll punch through the ice until it’s absolutely dead and two feet, two feet ice.

So that’s you have to go out on a full charge. You can’t I can’t be 75%. Is it drastic drop off on the power? If you go out on a 75% charge battery or getting charged battery, it has to be on a percent of charge. That’s really all I have to say about this. Like there’s, not lunch more and if you know I was kind of um. You know because I never had an auger before and I was like. Oh, you know: I was thinking when I bought it like well, I want a gas along because I wouldn’t want to deal with the battery blah blah blah Blee.

If you think about it, like you, don’t have to fill the gas tank, nothing to do with spark plugs. You don’t have to clean your carburetor nothing’s leaking. You don’t have to change the oil. It’s all ready to go. There’s like zero maintenance on this thing. Zero I, don’t think. There’s any maintenance on this at all, and if you’re worried about the number of holes, you can drill, you can buy a stronger battery or another battery and charge those, and it does come with a battery charger.

That’s it that’s the feature. There’s nothing really else to say about it: the blade the stock, the rotor is to 24, inches, I, think and then the the extension is another foot. That’s it so, right now, you’re gonna see holes me drilling holes in February last year, just to feed eyes just cranking right through it like butter, keep in mind. It was like one of my first couple times using is so high and I was, and I was kind of digging in shallow areas. So I was drilling in shallow areas, so I didn’t know if I was hitting bottom or not, it was kind of hesitant, but you’ll see you know.

I’ll put like you know, four five holes up there and you can see it just just absolutely rips through them and as long as the batteries charged you’ll get that you know cut the first hole. It’ll cut the last hole with the people as quick as it goes, the personal so on all pretty good to competitive price and I bought this last year. So it might even be cheaper. Now, I’m, not really sure what the price is, but upload the Amazon link. So at the end of this year, I had a bunch of trim like midway through summer ahead trailer problems. Just wanted to do a quick product review on the new ice fishing tool I purchased recently uh. That would be the new ion g2 10 inch electric auger. Last several years, I’ve been running the 8-inch ion x and quite a few differences from that compared to this tool. First off the color a little bit brighter green, also the flutes or composite material, and the cutting head is also composite material.

I don’t know if you can see that or not also notice. The blades are like a modified chipper style versus the x, which had a shaver blade. Um. The flutes are kind of flexible, which is kind of nice, makes it easy to get any frozen slush. Your ice off of there, also a nice big, big change. I guess, is how the battery attaches to the power head the x had that strap on it.

That would hold the battery on this new one has a locking mechanism that just turn it unlocks turn back locks it back in pretty nice. The buttons are all the same: uh only notice it has an aluminum, hexagonal shaft, really nothing bad to say about this tool. At all, pretty pretty amazing considerably faster, actually even a little bit more quiet batteries, a little more powerful, a little more life to it.

Physically, the same size, gonna cut up to 1200 inches ice with this battery per charge. The power head. I don’t know how it’s possible, but it’s even a little bit smaller than what the x was um only I mean it’s not even the only thing I have to say: that’s not even not even a problem, just uh something I noticed, probably cut 300 inches of ice today and that cutting head is so smooth so smooth when it goes through the ice.

You literally can’t tell when it’s getting ready to break through every other auger I’ve owned or used. You could always you could tell when it’s getting ready to break through and you can back off on it a little bit this. This new g2 goes through the ice so smoothly that you can’t tell when it’s getting ready to cut through, because of that, it’s real easy to over drill, and then you pull a lot of water up on top of the ice.

Real quick and it’s real easy to get your feet wet if you’re not paying attention. That’s the only. I can’t even say it’s a bad thing. It’s just a thing just be aware: um yeah! That’s it pretty amazing tool if you’re on the fence about it at all, don’t be thanks. Youtube.

What’s going on YouTube rip and tip outdoors on Dustin Fox today, we’re gonna be talking about the ion gen1, the electric ice auger, the model that I purchased was the 8 inch. It came with a 3 amp battery, a battery charger and a 12 inch extender, which is still in the box. The auger also comes with the three year: limited parts and battery warranty. This model that out that has the slush flushing reverse sounds like a gimmick, but it actually works really well, once you’re done drilling your hole, you hit the reverse: it sucks all the slush down the hole and pushes it to the sides.

Stalker costs $400 they make a Gen 2 and an X. The Gen 2 at my local store was seven hundred and fifty dollars. That’s a lot of money! That’s why I went with this one pros for this auger the weight 22 pounds. That is extremely light. Also, no maintenance, there’s no maintenance to this auger. You don’t have to worry about fumes. You don’t have to worry about gas. Oil spark plugs once you get home, you take the battery out. You put the battery somewhere where it’s warm and you could store this auger anywhere in your living room in your closet, I like just keeping it in my basement, it’s nice being able to just throw your auger in your back seat of your pickup truck.

Also pros of this auger. It’s super quiet when you’re drilling holes and you can drill holes inside your ice house due to no fumes cons to the auger battery. You got to keep the battery warm. They recommend putting it in your coat or your fish house if it’s below 20 degrees, I didn’t think that was that big of a deal I put it in my bibs and then just put it on the auger. When I got warm outside, they do make a bag that you can put hand warmers in. It runs about 25 dollars.

That’s another option! If you wanted to go that route, the cost of the batteries they’re expensive, 150 bucks for a battery that can add up pretty quick if you have to buy a battery every couple years, I’m figuring that I won’t leave one for five to seven years, because I’m only going out about ten times a year, so I’ll get my money’s worth you’re, not gonna, be able to drill holes as quick as a gas auger either with this. If that’s something that you want to be able to do is pop a lot of walls really quick and then I would go with the gas auger overall would I buy another one of these I would for the fishing that I do.

I think this is perfect. I go out about ten times a year, I drill about ten to fifteen holes. Every time I’m out do I need to be the fastest one on on the lake drilling holes. No I just need to get through the ice. The ice around here doesn’t get. You know three four feet thick, so I don’t have to worry about that 18 inches 20 inches! You know two feet is about as thick as we’re gonna get into here in Montana where I live, so this auger is perfect for what I do I like to be able to just grab the auger grab.

My bucket with a couple poles and my fishing tackle bag and I can just move around I, don’t have to haul a sled or anything like that, because it’s such lightweight. Thank you for watching rip and dip outdoors later.

We’re back on the ice I just kind of hiked through the bush. We are in the middle of nowhere. I hiked back through the woods through a marsh and now we’re at this little pothole in the middle of nowhere in the canadian shield, and I heard a rumor that there’s black crappies in this lake and I like fishing new lakes, I like exploring so we’re giving it a shot today.

Something else I like is new gear. So typically, when you’re coffee fishing you’re drilling a lot of holes. Looking for that pot of fish some days, you might show upwards of 100 holes to find them. Today we got a new auger. If you guys remember last year, two years ago, I did a review of the 40 volt strike master since then ion their competitor came out with the g2 generation, two uh, I don’t know too much about it, but I’m gonna kind of give you guys the rundown.

This will be my first time really pushing the limits. I’d use that a couple times very briefly, but I wanna see the stats. I wanna see how many holes I can drill how it operates, how it compares so here it is the g2, I would say one of the biggest differences from the strike master 40 volt is. This is composite.

This is some sort of plastic. It is a lot lighter. I think this is maybe nine pounds lighter yeah. I think this is 17 pounds compared to 26 pounds. The strike master I’ll have to double check that, but that’s the first thing I notice is the lightness. This thing is incredible. That being said, it’s got a different shaft shape.

It’s uh. How many sides is this one, two, three, four, five, six, six! What’s that pentagon, hexagon anyways with that shape of the flighting is you can put it in those digger holders which isn’t a big deal, because there’s lots of other auger carriers that are just the tube. So one thing I noticed: if you have a digger carrier, you probably won’t be able to use this, but whatever it is, what it is.

The color green you’re never going to leave this thing on the ice. I don’t mind the color, it’s all right and the battery 40 volt. It’s got a little button on the back here. You can press, it says it’s three bars. I just charge it up. They claim up to 2 000 inches on the website, so it says up to 2 000 inches.

So I’m not sure exactly. You know where that’s going to land, I haven’t measured the ice, yet I don’t know how much ice we’re dealing with here. So I’ll measure it and we’ll kind of do the math. Not all ice is created equal, so there’s just a lot of variables when you’re drilling the weather outside different stuff.

Like that. But on this side you got your trigger your two buttons you holding together for it to start drilling on the other side, you got your reverse and forward switch. You got a light on the bottom. You probably won’t be able to see it. Now I like to set up the handles. I don’t know I’m just going to start drilling holes I’ll, try to keep count, but first we’re going to drill one hole and we’re gonna see how much ice we’re dealing with all right.

First thing got the auger cover. It’s got a nice little ball in the end kind of cool. I like that pop it off. I can see this is all plastic around the edge that same composite, and this being said, I did mention that this was a lot lighter than the strike master strike. Master came out with a light flight since then.

So I guess, if you took a 40 volt head and put the light flight, eight inch on the bottom that’d be comparable. This is the eight inch we’re trying with this year, so I mean there’s always variables. If you wanted, the closest comparison would probably be the eight inch light flight on the 40 volt, but uh we’re gonna start drilling, we’re gonna drill.

The first hole here check the ice, see how many inches it is and then I’m just gonna keep track and start drilling a lot. I might pull out the flasher and see what we got for depth and maybe look for some fish, but we’re going to start popping holes click down the top click down the bottom right there. I marked it with my thumb.

We got like 14 and a half inches 14 and a half inches approximately give or take half an inch, we’re gonna start popping you’ll, see a little time lapse and then uh, maybe I’ll stop after like 30 or 40, but I’m going to check out how deep it is first of the flasher, because I do want to catch fish guys, we got 23 feet.

That is that’s pretty good. I’m gonna change. Camera angles make it interesting for you guys, maybe drill a little further across the lake in a straight line just for cinematography sake and we’re at 40 holes. So far, this thing is fast. That’s the first thing I noticed is: it seems really quick. This is obviously with brand new blades.

It always seems, or it always is super fast as soon as your blades touch anything and that’s something. Aaron has always stressed me over the years he’s like auger blades should touch nothing. They are sensitive as soon as you fold, those edges. You lose so much power as soon as you push down on it. It’s no good anymore, so you want super sharp blades.

Some people, I know, switch from every season depending on the ice you’re drilling in. If you have some dirty river ice, it might get bad anyways. I still got the drone in the sky, I’m gonna switch angles and we’re gonna keep drilling well um. The lightweightness of it is incredible. I know there’s like the pistol and some other lightweight cage drill, the ones you can hook up to your with your cordless drill.

I barely use those. I know those would be good in a situation like this as well we’re 13 to 15 inches of late ice ice. So it’s not honeycombing, but it’s definitely slushier than normalized. So take that into account. It is warm it’s probably plus seven today and yeah. Those are all factors it was minus 40 below in the ice was like middle february hard.

It would probably be different, so I’m giving you guys all the facts. It is really windy and we’re gonna do one more round of holes. I mean unless we keep going we’ll see one hundred holes baby. Let me know what to do guys. Let’s keep going. Oh, is that it try popping it off and on one more time 124 that might be it come on.

Let’s do 125 come on 125 125 holes on the ion g2 8-inch 8 degrees celsius, 13 to 14 inches of late season ice. I don’t know if I’d consider it completely frazzle ice, but the top couple inches are they currently don’t have a 10 inch model, which is a big factor for me with the type of northern fishing I do.

But when this video comes out, there might be a 10 inch version, which would be everything I need eight inch for you know pan fish stock, trout, maybe smaller walleyes and then the 10-inch. I like the 10-inch big walleyes, big lakers, big pike, yeah. Let’s, let’s get to fishing 24 24, it says 25, it’s probably still the same like 24-ish.

Okay, now it says 18 feet. I think what is going on. So we went from 25 to 18 pretty quickly, which I like it means. There’s like it’s, not all one big bowl, there’s a specific deep spot which should concentrate them a little bit better. I’m gonna burn through one more battery, just because all right here we go battery number two for the sake of signs for the sake of getting a good workout for the sake of a really good video title, we’re gonna drill another, hopefully a hundred plus holes.

Here we go, I got that was 95 holes, so I’m gonna draw a couple more is that it 20 or 21. I don’t even know all right, we’re calling it guys that is my first real-life use of the ion g2. I was not paid for this review. They sent me the auger to use, they said do review. If you want do whatever will I be running this next year? Maybe I’m not sure we’ll see I really like it uh.

I love the light weight part of the flight uh. I I want to say it’s going to hold up. I mean the couple trips before that I used it. It seemed fine. Electric augers are the future gas augers are going to be obsolete in a little bit, and I know there’s a lot of old-timers out there, like. Ah, if you’re up north or if it’s super cold gas is the way to go, I mean.

How often do you need to drill this many holes? I know there’s unique situations on maybe lake winnipeg, where you have an extension, you’re drilling through tons of ice, and you maybe can’t afford to have five batteries or whatever you might need, but in 99 of my fishing applications this is absolutely fine.

I never have to worry about winterizing, just because that’s I’m not a mechanical person. Obviously this test didn’t take into account cold weather. If it’s cold, just keep the battery warm keep one in your jacket. I’ve even had batteries like ice cold outside and they still have worked um. I wanna I’m gonna pull my phone, we’re gonna crunch the numbers.

Before we wrap this video up. Well, we did 122 the one and 125, on the other. Let’s say 123 will average it 123 5 holes times I mean I got 14 5 inches, maybe 14 inches, we’ll say 14 inches of ice, so that’s 1729 inches of ice. If you ever need to drill that many inches of ice, you got your hardcore I’ll, give it to you ion g2 uh.

It exceeded my expectations. I’ve heard rumors of a 10 inch flight. That would be absolutely needed if I was gonna use it uh. You know all season long. Obviously this doesn’t take into account how much wear and tear these machines can handle. So that’s tough to say, but the composite flight seems super cool.

I think I think this auger might get added to my repertoire, especially if there’s a 10 inch version coming out. It’s super torquey, it seems really fast. As far as speed goes, that’s not a big concern for me how fast it drills, but when you feel how quick this one goes, that is pretty nice. That’s it! Thank you guys for watching.
