The Patagonia Men’s down sweater is super compressible light and warm. This popular jacket does more than just look sharp. It will shed some light rain of mist, but it is not a fully water-proof material. So. Keep that in mind when looking into the Down Sweater We do have an 800 fill traceable, European goose down, so that just means the goose down can be traced back to birds that were never force, fed or live plucked So.

It is a sus-tainable way of harvesting that down insulation. The jacket does have some features. I want to mention. We have got a full length front zipper with a little storm flap, so you can certainly keep out the cold drafty air keep your-self nice and warm That comes all the way up to a nice, kissing, well zipper garage at the top, so you have got really good comfort next to skin no abrasion, no chafing won’t snag any beard, hairs So! It is a really nice comfortable collar.

There We do have some pockets on the sweater. We have got two zippered hand warmer pock-ets down low, so nice small pockets. There You can store some essentials warm on the hands if you are not wearing gloves, and they are zippered for security. We do have a pocket on the inside of the sweater as well. It is a nice pretty sizable interior pocket. You can definitely stow some larger items in there and a really nice benefit to this pocket is that it reverses on itself and creates a nice small compact stuff size for the jacket.

It is a great travel. Pillow It is easy to attach it to a harness. If you are climbing and need a layer at the belay or anything like that, You could certainly stow this away and keep it nice and compact Some features to enhance the fit include elastic around the cuffs of the jacket, so that will help to keep it snug around the wrist without being too tight, It keeps the cold air out keeps the warm insulation in There.

Is a hem draw cord as well? So you can certainly cinch this down around the waist, prevent it from riding up. If you are wearing a backpack or a climbing, harness I am wearing a medium here. The fit is fairly regular. I have got some room to layer. Un-Derneath could easily throw a weatherproof shell on top So. It is definitely a good layer-ing option or you can wear it alone on a cooler day. If you are going downtown, certainly blocks the wind and creates a lot of good insulation there as well And there.

You have it a great outer wear piece for casual days, downtown or layering in the backcountry. It is the Patagonia Men’s Down Sweater.

Okay, so today I wanted to go over the overall I, really like it. It’s pretty good I have a North, Face 500 fill down jacket as well, but I like this one, a lot better and I’m going to go through and tell you why exactly I like this one overall, it’s it was a tough decision between this and the Nano puff and I decided to go with this, because, after reading a couple of reviews, it says that this one was a lot warmer and I’m an urban commuter, so it just made sense I’m sitting for a long period times it gets cold nano puff.

Not so warm and I’ll go through and talk a little bit about this. So the reason I like this jacket, besides the deep pockets where I can just store a lot of things, it has two pockets and the two Fox from the front, and then it has an interior pocket. If it feels really great, it doesn’t feel like it’s a cheap jacket. It feels like what you would expect back from Patagonia. So this is the inside pocket right here, and what I really like about this is that this jacket is also packable.

So what we’re gonna do here is we’re gonna, go and we’re gonna pack, this jacket- and this is perfect, because if you don’t want to wear the jacket anymore, you can just pack, it I, usually just put it in my bag, it’s better than carrying a jacket around all day, if you’re commuting, if you’re hiking, if you’re doing a whole bunch of stuff, it’s pretty good, let’s go, and it just easily goes into here. It actually slides in pretty smoothly.

So there we go now you have a fully packed jacket and all you have to do is if it then you’re fine, you’re carrying this around you throw it in your bag. You’ll be fine, it’s really great! If you’re commuting, if you’re hiking, the jacket is really warm, it’s 800 fill down its windproof as a durable water repellent on it. It’s not waterproof. I would. If it was raining, I would put a shell over it. I keep me warm and keep me dry and we could go over.

Some of the things that are on the site too, so let me just bring that up so here we are we’re on the patagonia site. This is the men’s down sweater jacket. It has 440 winter views, pretty good I got the Balkan blue one I got it for around one hundred and fourteen. It was like around 120 whiffed tax right now they have only extra extra-large, but they do still carry the black. The gray, if you don’t want a colorway, that’s so loud, and these ones I feel like are always a full price.

These are. This is the jacket on the model showing some of the trims showing the yuca packet, which is a really nice feature, draw the draw cords on the hem. It’s perfect for a windy day. It’s lightweight you carry around 800 fill down and for me it was night and day going from 550 to 800 I know, there’s a weight ratio, I believe for the down I’m, not entirely sure. I just know that this jacket is really warm compared to my North Face, one that I’m wearing a bit different jackets for different conditions.

One of the things that I do like about Patagonia is that they’re doing they’re doing down in a responsible way if I was to get down from anyone, it would probably be from them and nor face because I know they’re going this route to, they don’t live pluck or they don’t force-feed they’re the animals, and it says so right here to the size, the fit the material overall. It’s a pretty good jacket if you’re deciding between this and the Nano puff I would say get this if you’re, if you run a cold and you want to be a little bit warmer, the Nano puff had really great reviews.

But what really won me over is from all the reviews. I was reading this one’s a lot warmer and today it was a little bit windy in the 70s I believe and I just had this jacket open, and that was fine, but if I as soon as I’d zipper at up I got really warm. So you decide you could always return this overall, really great jacket. I go! Try it go by. If you want try it out, yeah, so yeah, that’s it! Let me know what you think.

Gonna be talking about the Patagonia down sort of s, and this item is from the fall 2011 season. Patagonia have updated this jacket in the recent years to look a little different. It has the new version have thicker zippers and different types of features and I’m gonna go into in a review, but this older piece you can find online still in their original retail, of these checks for about two hundred and fifty dollars actually 229 to 250, depending where you bought them and she’s gonna go right into review, I’m five foot images and I’m wearing a size small in this 155 pounds, and this is the size small that I’m wearing these are articulated.

Now this measure is about 22 inches across the chest. These fit really big. The newer versions of this vest from 2013 to present are much smaller fitting, but this older version fits really big, so we’re in a small I, usually wear mediums I’m a 38, our chest normally, but this is a size, small and measures 22 inches on per topic from the seams across. It’s really short: it’s about 26 inches from the base of the column column collar down for the hem, and the hem does have a toggle cinch, but it’s a weird toggle since she’s, only one toggle cinch, but ahem.

It’s on one side instant, just like that. So not sure why Patagonia does that, because it’s kind of lopsided, but because I sides down the best really hugs, my torso cuz I got the small size, so it’s slim fitting already so I never really used the toggle syndrome so consider that if you’re buying one of these jackets, you might want to size down a size. You know keep that in mind. The newer versions get your size. I have just did a review of this guy, and this is the 2014 2015 edition of the same item in the best in the best arm style, and this is a size, medium and the size medium.

It’s only 21 inches across the chest. This size, small from 2011, it’s 22 inches across his chest. So you can see how Patagonia has made it a little bit more over the year years. Recent years- and this has a contrasting red color lining- this is the graphite navy color. The graphite color is what this was called, and it’s really warm vests show you guys inside. This did not come with a stuff sack, but what Patagonia has done over the recent years instead of shipping, their products with an extra stuff sack is have the inside pocket and a jacket would stuff into me the pockets I’m going to show you guys how that happens, and this is a mesh pocket really love.

This pocket is great for for wet items. If you have well, you won’t want to store wet items in a down jacket, because you don’t want to damage that way, but it’s great for the scene what’s in the pockets, good for like sunscreen and wallet keys, that kind of thing, so it’s gonna stuff right in there and this jacket I’ve worn this jacket down to like 25 degrees, Fahrenheit in windy, weather, windy, dry weather. You do not want to wear this when it’s wet or humid out, because it down gets soggy and soggy damp down is not warm.

It’s like wearing a t-shirt in the wintertime, so this is a dry weather insulation, you’re, gonna wear this in dry weather, and this is the how it looks when it stops into the pocket. I’ve never actually done that before there’s a little carabiner little loop right here. You can click this to your belt. Carabiner I could be traveling like I’m gonna islands in a couple of days, it’s winter in New, York and I’m gonna, probably stuff this in my luggage.

It’s really lightweight put in my luggage when I land back in New, York, New, Year’s, Eve, I’ll, take this out and I get to JFK. Airport and voila I have a warm jacket to wear home. So you know it’s lightweight, it’ll, just fit right in my luggage, my hand luggage or whatever. So that’s why I like these jackets, that Patagonia make it’s really warm up. Horn is down to 25 degrees with a scarf and a sweater, and it kept me warm warm enough anything extremely cold, extremely windy or wet.

You don’t want to wear this. It’s not gonna. Keep you warm at all and when you like this, the color, the style interior pocket scarf test CB holes are red, masks are top and see, there’s a bulb, so you don’t want to put anything too big in there. It’s for little items and it’s use with this jacket right praises sad and done. Cute few issues are the zip. Zip system is really cheap and Patagonia only recently changed the zipper system from the thin wispy zips to to a thicker beefier, zip, um, newer down, sweaters, see I’m thinking, beefy that zip is I’m.

Go close to you guys could see it’s a big beefy zipper zipper system there versus this, and this snags in everything like everything it snags on, as well as the pocket, zip snacks on a lot of things. It’s smooth like snacks catches on the nylon inside all the snags and it’s kind of cheap and I think if anything was to go first on this jacket will be the zipper things like just break on this thing: I usually wash my down items, don’t I, don’t believe machines write them, but Patagonia actually I do read machine JA, I’m.

Sorry, my raincoats at all my gore-tex rain shells, I, don’t machine dry kind of hand dry some of those items, but this you want to wash this with ionic wax ni, ke w ax. It’s a detergent for sort of keeping the water treatments on your outdoor gear shells and stuff, like that. It keeps it fresh or you could use powder detergent to wash these items powder detergent and you dry them. I, try them and a little tumble dry with tennis balls to fluff out the down, but over the years I had this since 2011 it has flattened out a little bit.

You see more puffy, but I kind of like how it looks. It’s still warm, but you see the difference. I haven’t washed this yet I just got this this a few weeks ago and I haven’t washed it so where’s a couple of times. You can see the difference in their loft. This is lot lofty, I’m puffier, but I kind of like a little less loft. But still really it’s not has not lost any bit up the one. Even though the loss is much more flatter, it’s not as lofty as it was when I first got this four years ago.

What else can I say about it hand warmer pockets? Are there? The pockets are inside the down baffle against your skin and just a thin layer or nylon between your skin your hands? Now what that means is when you were in this outside, it’s important. Is it up the jacket because it does, if is enough, heat will escape from the pocket and cold air will blow in the pocket, and you know get inside the down. So keep that in mind so always keep popping zipped up one.

When I found peace like this um, we didn’t like this piece, not much I can say about it. The only thing about the Patagonia pass. The fabric does have that DWR treatment for water resistant, water repellency, but it doesn’t last long. Patagonia- has never really been a leader in the DWR treatment and the nylon fabrics that they use in their down sweater, vests shells um jackets. So what I find on this and that’s the reason I got a darker color like the dark colors, is that the grease and sweat from your neck and your hair gets on a fabric and it’s change real, easy from oils and day to day use.

So keep that in mind you don’t want to get like a light bright color like a yellow or bright green. So I, always you stick to the darker colors because they get dirty really quick and you don’t want to wear this bushwhacking or anything. It will cut the fabric real, easy, I’m, very careful with my items, but something like this I would never wear bushwhack unless I have a hard rain. Shell gore-tex shell over this, but over the years Patagonia actually has in recent years improved the fabric.

So this newer version of the same thing has a much better shell I, don’t know fifty close up. It’s a much crispier, tougher nylon that they use in here, I’m, not even sure it might be Pertex. Actually, those part Tex is one of the it’s not per Tex I. Don’t know it doesn’t say what it is, but compared to the older model, you could see it’s a little bit more thinner, it’s much more frail compared to the newer nylon. So keep that in mind I mean the older pieces.

You could find these on eBay new used, pre-owned beat-up for discount prices and the sub hundreds of dollars for them, but remember dark colors, and it will keep you as warm as and newer pieces actually and remember to size down if you get more than older ones. If you find one of these from popular store in 2015, you might want to get your size because they fit exactly they’re much tailored put this on. So you guys can see it one. Last time before I go think about this I, don’t like the sleeves articulated, I’m, not sure.

If I mentioned that, so you could move around a lot. The difference between this and the down jackets. You get from our department store like at H&M or Uniqlo that those jackets are not articulated the diamond. Those jackets are much cheaper, I, don’t even know if it’s down sometimes I use. It might be any synthetic polyester fill, but Patagonia is traceable. Duck down our feathers. The Fed is all traceable in these jackets. So it’s not like it’s very against someone environmentally friendly in terms of the treatment of the bow that defenders come from um other brands, meaning you know, other brands may not have the same quality of the down.

So keep that in mind- and this is an 800 fill down jacket. Surprise I forgot to mention that and 800 feels really warm for the weight. So it’s a lightweight, but it’s really warm at the same time. So that’s what I think you might want to look for if you buy in an alternate brand like look at the fill number. It’s not. The amount of feather is anything that was the quality of the feathers used in the in the jacket or vest 85. So these are articulate, which is good.

The down quality is really high quality down. That’s where you’re paying $229 for one of these, so you’re getting really good quality stuff in, even though the nylon outer is really cheap and shoddy. The down inside is very warm. It will keep you warm. This is number one question you get. Are these things warm? They are very warm and that’s step until next time and see inside it’s nice, red color. One more thing: if you wear this active like you jogging, the feathers will get wet from your sweat, so I usually get like wet spots on my armpits, if I’m wearing this inside and I’m sweating like if I’m in line somewhere in a supermarket or a post office, you will sweat into this and it down does get wet under the armpits here.

So keep that in mind. It’s not a big biggie, but it’s up to basically based on your biology. If you sweat a lot so keep that in mind, but other than that. It’s a great piece you get for under hundred dollars now on eBay or Amazon, or something like that. So definitely pick one of these up. If you want a light piece for fall for maybe October November December, but when it gets to like sub 20 degrees, you’re, not really gonna. Wear this stuff: it’s snowing a lot or blizzard weather like wind, wet weather, you’re, not gonna.

Hey guys welcome back to another episode, be taking an in-depth look at an oldie but a Goldie. It’s the Patagonia down sweater, hoody, okay, guys. So, let’s jump into some of the specifications for this jacket. So this jacket comes in weighing just under a pound at 428 grams or 15 1 ounces. The shell is a recycled polyester rip, stop with a DWR finish and then for the insulation on this jacket.

We have an 800 fill traceable, goose down, I’m gonna go into a little bit more detail later on in the video about what Patagonia has been doing with their traceable down products. On the front of the jacket, we have a full length zipper with zipper garage to reduce chafing and irritation against the neck. We have two zippered external hand, warmer pockets and one internal zippered chest pocket this internal zippered chest pocket doubles as a stuff sack for the jacket we have elastic, hang around the cuffs and the jacket does have a drawstring hem with dual points of adjustability.

So, let’s talk about the fit for this jacket: I’m six-three, 185 pounds and I’m wearing a size large. The fit on this jacket is contoured and a little bit baggy ur in the waist area. However, I don’t mind it too much. What it allows for in my Fit is that I can comfortably layer without sacrificing any mobility. So, first, let’s touch on down insulation. Some of the benefits about using down as opposed to synthetic in a jacket is that down is going to be highly compressible, as well as the warmth to weight ratio is going to be superb.

Now when compared to a synthetic jacket, synthetic jackets aren’t going to lose their heat properties when wet. Now, when buying a down jacket, it’s really important that you be a conscientious buyer. I’m gonna play a clip right now that just sort of illustrates what goes into making these down jackets when the down is not sourced responsibly, you, and so what Patagonia has been doing over the past couple years, is ensuring that they’re down that’s being used in their products, is being sourced responsibly and is 100 percent traceable, and what that means is that no birds are being live, plucked, force-fed or killed in the process of extracting this down for the application of this jacket.

I think that this jacket performs best when worn around town or in the city would I recommend it for hiking or alpine climbing. It depends. You know it’s not going to be as lightweight or compressible as some of the other jackets in this category, so when compared to the Mountain Hardwear Ghost Whisperer or the Arc’teryx cerium LT, this is coming in a little bit heavier a little bit bulkier and it’s not going to move as fluidly as some of those other jackets might.

But it’s also a lower price point. The pricing on this jacket is two hundred and seventy nine dollars which, compared to other jackets in the category, isn’t that high once you get to those high performance, jackets like the cerium LT or the Ghost Whisperer you’re, getting well above three hundred dollars. This jacket performs well especially for the price tag that accompanies it. Overall, my score of this jacket, I, probably give it an eight point: five or a nine out of ten I love having it as a back up layer when I’m at camp or when I’m hiking.

Another thing that I like about this jacket is the style or the look of it. It shouldn’t be too much of a concern when picking out a performance down jacket. Sweater hoody pullover: this is a traditional down puffy without the full-length front, zip it’s a perfect little belay pullover or a casual winter jacket. Your polyester, all of the face fabrics, have a DWR finish to protect that down insulation from moisture. The zipper is a shorter length, but it still has a nice wind, flap and a zipper garage to add comfort at the chin. You get an insulated adjustable hood at the top, which just has a single pull at the rear at the belly, there’s a kangaroo style hand warmer pocket and also a zippered drop-in pocket which doubles as the jackets stuff sack. You can pack it or rack it or use it as a pillow at camp.

There’s a nylon bound elastic band at each cuff to seal in your warmth and a draw cord hem I like the pullover style, because I think it gives a bit more consistent warmth and you can easily vent it. If you start to get too warm, it lets the jacket pack down a bit smaller as well, because there’s less zipper material to deal with the fit is Patagonia’s regular, fit I am wearing a large and it fits exactly like I’d want it to a little bit roomy in the belly.

So I do have some space to move around, but otherwise it feels really nice and cozy for casual winter insulation or adventurous spirits. Today, I’m going to do a review of my hoody, so this features 800 fill, which is completely filled from the hood. All the way to the bottom, to the edge has completely 800 fill down which pedagogic claims is 100%, traceable, ethically sourced, so you can feel pretty good about buying it I’m. Looking at the outer shell, as you can see, it’s got a very nice matte finish.

The fabric itself feels quite strong, it’s a 20 by 30 denier, so it’s gonna be very durable last several years and as you can see on the outside, we have two pockets that can be zipped up and it’s got one more interior pocket inside one of the best things I like about this. Is it comes with a hood so really, during those colder days in the winter, it will keep really warm an apartment was having a hood.

You have one of these adjustments so that if it does get really cold, you can really strap that thing down and seal it. A lot of the warmth so overall, this weighs 15 ounces. So it’s not going to be the lightest jacket down jacket out there, but it will be a very warm one. There’s gonna be very versatile and so I’m gonna try it on.

So you guys can see what it looks like just to give you idea of my dimensions: I’m 5/8 I weigh just under 160 pounds, so pretty regular its weight, and this is a medium jacket from Patagonia, so I’m going to zip this thing up. You can kind of get a feel for what it looks like. So, as you can see, it’s not super form-fitting.

It does have a little bit of space to move around in when I put my arms up, it doesn’t come up all the way like some of the other jackets I’ve tried and at the same time is a very kind of close feeling to so. You don’t feel like you’re in this huge winter poufy jacket and it’s really versatile for a lot of situations just for running around town or even out kind of waiting for the bus.

Stop on the way to working like that, the hood where we put it over like I, mentioned before the zipper, goes all the way up, and hopefully you can still hear me and my voice so sound – muffled and you can pull the adjustment that I showed you in the back. I’m really tighten that up, so it really seals in all all this area so that no heat will escape from your head, which is a really nice feature to have on a down jacket, and so all in all this is.

Why are we one of my favorite pieces, like I, said it’s versatile and the fact that you can layer up? So if you will have a harder shell that you want to protect on the outside will add more weight protection, even though this is quite one protect in itself, but at the same time it has enough space on the inside that you probably wear some thicker layers underneath like a fleece of some kind or some longer t-shirts, and a layer of that would make it even warmer.

Last thing, I will note. Is this inner pocket where my favorite feature? This is a it’s big enough. My whole hand fits in here, but you can also put the entire sweater in there and it will compress into about a Nalgene sized area of space and all around I’d have to say this is probably one like they were jackets and one of the ones I use the most throughout the winter, not just autumn and spring months, but actually use it in the winter and I live in Wisconsin.

So it does get quite cold but I’m on those extra cold days. I do suggest layering it with an outer shell to kind of keep you a little bit more toasty in layer up, but overall I definitely recommend this jacket. Hey everyone still on the trail, my another review. This is kind of good anyway, I’m just reviewing the Patagonia down jacket. Let me just got it all. – now, obviously, in black, very, very good down jacket, so I’m a size, small I’m about 170, centimeters, five foot, six and a half like 63 64 kilos, and it is a very, very good fit as you can see. So this version is what the hooded version, obviously but yeah it doesn’t it’s not too heavy, pretty light like I, think it’s like 350 grams or something I have to get the specs I’ll get the specs on the video come out in the bush at the moment, but yeah.

It keeps me very warm I’ve just got a sorry for the wires I just got a Helly Hansen likes the like. I’m live first right base layer, the long sleeve, underneath so usually on the like a day like today, it’s sunny but a bit windy, probably like 10 degrees, mmm, also like 9 to 10 degrees, I, usually just wear my base layer and in this to go over the top and then yeah anything under 10.

Like 10 to 11 degrees, I’m wearing just by side in this, but I felt like I, find it’s getting a bit hot off. Obviously I just open it up with my bag. I get some airflow, so it’s getting a bit warmer now so I might change change it, but it’s still really good. Even y’all. Don’t find I hardly overheat with it, unless it’s really hot, but yeah I, don’t wear when I know it’s in a rain, obviously cause it’s not as good in the rain, but if it is- and it’s really really cold I’ll wear this and then I’ll wear my Arc’teryx alpha, FL, the the rain jacket and that one that’s an extra small and it fits over this.

It’s quite tight, like quite point point to like a tiger. Yes, but it fits quite snug but I’m like I’m, a quite a small fit, so I could get away with with that. Even though Arcturus is a slim, slim fit, but yeah so usually wearing this on those days when it’s really cold hot days or when it’s warming up I, don’t really wear this I. Just wear my base layer with my art tricks, rain jacket because obviously that’s a bit lighter, but um yeah, it’s very good, very good jacket with the zips.

It’s got two. It’s got one here and one more pocket another one here you can cinch it your cinch see. So if you want it a bit tighter, whatever you can use, I highly use, those to be honest, I’ll show you how small it packs up as well. So let me move my microphone here. Okay, take it off near mom. Take it off! Is he oh? So you have this little pocket here, the zipper open it up and you stuff it inside out, so yeah Johnny wasn’t puddled today singing forever.

It’s alright more time to review stuff yeah alrighty! Nearly there yeah I was gonna. Get this in a it’s got. A few colors I bought this in Pattie Palin in Sydney. It was on sale from like 332 to 70 years. I. Think I’m gonna get the blue, but it was I noticed. I, love, blue bells to blue produce blue now, just way too blue and I know it stood out a bit. If you like, standing out, then yeah go for gold, but I know it’s like black, because I can wear it kind of with everything, and you can kind of wear with everything to be honest, like it’s pretty smart, smart casual and it keeps me very warm, very warm and toasty okay stuffing the rest inside here is there you go so it’s stuffs in like that pretty small and you can compress it quite a bit because leather down, obviously so what I do and I’m not wearing it I they put it in the sleeping bag.

Compartment of my joy, diet, air contact, light, 50, plus 10 or you can get on a sea2summit I’ll, try a compression sack core bag, and this fits in it and not extra small, and then it compresses really small. It compresses really small on that. So yeah pretty much it and then yeah very happy with this. You can fit this anywhere and then, if you want to just take it out, comes it out pretty easily there we go.

Oh yeah, so I beat Jonathan by 45 minutes. That’s all right! It’s my birthday! All right! Now! You have it then back on sweep so yeah. If you have any of the questions on it or whatever. If you feel to ask, but yeah I will definitely get this very, very good jacket for the price keeps you really really warm I’m, pretty sure it’s like 850 down I have to double check that but um yeah, it’s a pretty choice of YKK zipper.

Now YKK is a they’re like a very well trusted brand in zippers and everything. So that’s why people just say YKK, because it’s more like credibility, but um yep go get yourself. One very good.

Be talking about Patagonia down sweater, which is this jacket right here, the non hooded version retails for 229 and the hooded version, which is the one I’m wearing right here, retails for 279 to me, this design is much cleaner compared to the Nano. The Nano is a lighter version and the one with all those vertical stripes I, don’t like that design with all those vertical stripes. This diff designed to me is much cleaner and a more classic look to me.

This classic look will last for a much longer time, because you know some jackets that you wear ends up going on style after a year or two. So to me, it’s great for early spring fall or early winter is like winters. You know, so the jacket is very functional. There’s two side: pockets right here for your hands and there’s two cinch cords right here you can pull threading and since your waistline right there and also there’s one inside pocket right here, so you can put in your snacks your iPhone.

It is big enough to fit a six plus or a seven plus, and also this is packable inside this pocket. Right here and also you know how you can tell if this is the more modern version, not the older version is this pocket inside pocket goes up and down the older version goes left and right. So if you want the more newer model, which is a 2014, 15, 16 and 17, then this is a more modern version which is up and down so in a minute.

I will show you how quick it takes to pack this up, but for now I want to show you the arms of hood, so the hood it comes this way here. So on the back of the hood, you can cinch it. So there’s a draw cord right here when you pull it and tighten it up so right here. This is your sense cord right here and you can tighten it up right there and then, and then this. This is what it looks like with the with everything up with the hood right here and covering your face.

Then you see here. This is the inside pocket right here and I think with practice. You know it probably takes like 30 Seconds to a minute and I’ll show you in real time how quick it takes to pack this up. You know you can clamp it to your your pants or you can just toss it in your backpack, but you know the functionality of this right here, just be able to pack it up. It’s great is really functional, as you can see here, I’m not going to pack it all the way through, but this is about the size of it right here, so you just pop it in your backpack or maybe a clamp it right here or, however, you you want to do it overall, this jacket comes with three pockets.

I think it’s a very comfortable and light jacket, and you know if you wear a light layer underneath you can probably handle up to about forty to fifty degrees depending on what kind of person you are as far as handling temperatures, and also, if you wear a heavier layer, I think you can handle maybe up to in the 30s, depending on how you are I, weigh about 155 and I’m about five seven and I’m wearing a medium right now the small does fit me really nice, it’s a good athletic fit for the small but I needed more shoulder room and I needed more arm movement and also I wanted a little bit more room.

So, like you know, put put on layers and also you know, you know, the price is kind of steep. It is kind of expensive. So in order to save money, I bought all my Patagonia stuff on eBay. You know you can probably save like a hundred or even a hundred forty dollars, depending on what color it is and what style and and what model it is. But I do recommend you going out there on eBay and just save you at least a hundred bucks or or whatever you’re looking for so, and if you see it on eBay, you have to snatch it up real quick because you know the popular colors and the popular designs they go by real fast.

So so this is my review and the Patagonia down sweater I hope you find the kind of jacket that you’re looking for that’s functional, that has all the pockets and functionality that you’re looking for thanks for watching and have a good one Thanks. You.

Patagonia has been making high-quality now and they’re down. Ceres has become some other kind of their feature lines of products, so I purchased the Patagonia down sweater, hoody and I’m gonna review it in this video after using it for about half a season now I found that the down sweater hoody is a really good option for keeping you warm and not weighing too much, although it does have one major flaw that might turn you off from buying it. What’s up guys I’m Marcus, this is Ascension ISM and, like I said today, we’re gonna be looking at the Patagonia down sweater hoody jacket.

Now this is kind of Patagonia’s main three season down jacket that they have it’s some of the specs on it. It’s 800 fill down so that that essentially means that it weighs about as much as a warm sweater will. That’s actually why they call it the down sweater, it’s 430 grams, so weighs about a pound. It does pack up pretty well and just for sizing. You can see I bought a size, large I’m about 6 feet, 1 inch tall, so it print it fits pretty perfectly on me. The sleeves are good, the cuffs are nice, so those are just some of the technical specs of the jacket.

Okay, so first I want to talk about what I like about the jacket, because there are a lot of really good things about it. Um, first of all, it’s warm and it’s super comfortable. You know it’s Patagonia, so they always make really high quality gear. This the cuffs on the sleeves, are really comfy. There’s no irritation there. It fits well. You don’t get that kind of slick feeling that you sometimes get with down like it’s a very comfortable, fitting jacket.

It packs up super easily, so you can see I’m wearing it here and then, if I take it off, you can see it packs up pretty small there. So there I guess you can compare it against my head, that it packs up to about I would say the size of a Nalgene and a half like a 1 liter Nalgene, you kind of say 1 and a half of them I’m. It packs into an intern pocket, so you don’t need to worry about carrying a case, and there is, as part of that, Patagonia has built-in harness loop on it. So I think you can see right there.

It’s got a little kind of built-in loop, so if you’re climbing with this, you know you could put it on while you’re blame, if you’re doing a multi pitch, if you’re doing an Alpine route and then once you’re going once you’re a little bit once you’re generating more heat, and you don’t necessarily want the down jacket, you can just clip it to your harness nice and easy. It works super well for that, so yeah pack, ability I, would say it’s really high. Warmth is also really good.

I wore this jacket when I did Baldy peak as a sunrise hike um. So my friend and I we’re up on the summit at about 5 a m. We were there before the Sun came up, it was I would say it was like in the single digits, Celsius I, don’t know what that is in Fahrenheit, so we’re up on the summit. It was super windy and I was basically I was wearing this and then a shirt and a sweater underneath and not kept me super warm. So the warmth on the jacket is good. The hood is really good. I’m gonna toss it back on, so you can see the hood.

So the hood is another nice feature about this jacket. Patagonia built this with climbers and kind of you know outdoor sports in mind. So you can see my voice might get a little muffle here. Sorry, when I do up the hood, it provides a really good level of kind of warmth and I. Guess like shelter and like you can see, a lot of my face is peppered, but if I’m moving or if I have a helmet I can pull on the draw cord there and that just kind of tightens it up, it pulls it back against my head.

So now, I have more peripheral vision and now the jacket meant be flapping when won’t be able to get in around my ears. So you know that might seem that might seem like a little thing, but when you’re spending $400 on a jacket you want, you know the little things count and having a really good hood like that, is it’s it’s a nice benefit and it’s one of those things that you get when you buy like Patagonia and Arc’teryx, and some of the nicer companies they pay attention to those little details.

The jackets also got two external pockets. You can see just right. There they’re both zippered they’re, both they’re, not fleece, lined or anything but they’re, pretty comfortable they’re good for keeping your hands warm one, internal pocket right here. That’s where the jacket stuffs. It’s also good for keeping your phone or your keys or anything. You want internal, that’s also zippered, although it’s catching on the fabric. Um we’ve got draw cords on the hem, so kind of same as the hood.

If it’s super windy, I can zip it up. I can drawstring the hem and win won’t get in so basically as a Down Jacket. This does everything you want it to do right. It’s done everything that I’ve wanted it to do. So far it’s warm it packs small. It’s super comfortable um, you know, I think it looks nice. It has nice lines if you’re looking to wear it around just kind of as a casual jacket. You’re, not gonna. Look like that. Dude who’s like trying to be a mountaineer when you’re going to the pub with your friends like it’s, it’s nice enough that you can wear it casually, but there is one downside like I said, and the one downside is that Patagonia didn’t use hydrophilic down when they were making this jacket.

So one of the the big downside with down no pun intended is that once it gets wet, it loses its loft. So it’s not kind of fluffy anymore and then once that happens, it loses its insulation abilities. So if I were to get caught in a rainstorm or if I accidentally spilled water on this jacket, it won’t stay warm. So there is this thing called hydrophilic down that retains its loft. Even when it’s wet and the North Face summit l-3 jacket is a pretty comparable jacket to the Patagonia down hoody, but it uses hydrophilic down.

So you know that if it gets wet, it’s still going to be warm. So that is a really big disadvantage. I think of this jacket, I’m super hesitant to wear it if I think it’s gonna rain, even if I have it packed in my backpack with like my camel bath or my now, gene I just know that if there’s a leak or something this jacket could be essentially rendered useless until it dries and that kind of limits my ability to depend on it in every situation. Also, it means that if I’m using this jacket, I always have to have the raincoat with me, because once again, if it starts raining- and this gets wet, it’s essentially useless.

So that’s the one knock I have against this jacket is that it doesn’t use that hydrophilic down, and that makes it a little less reliable. In some scenarios, however, it is cheaper than other jackets that use the hydrophilic down. I. Think it’s about $100, cheaper than the North Face l-3 summit, so it costs. This is gonna, be in Canadian dollars, but it costs about three hundred and fifty dollars. So that’s probably like two. Seventy-Five American, so it’s expensive, but it’s not unreasonably priced for a Down Jacket, so you know if you’re looking for maybe a more affordable but still super high quality option.

This is a good jacket, but if you want something that you can rely on and like every scenario and that you don’t have to carry or you don’t have to worry about getting what I would say go with the summit l3 from North Face, because it uses that hydrophilic down but all-in-all the Patagonia down jacket, super comfy super warm, it’s very packable. You know you’re buying it from a good company from Patagonia they’re, very ethical. They spend a lot of money on environmental projects.

That’s something that’s super important to me. So that’s definitely something that was a buying decision when I got this jacket, but if you’re looking together just know it doesn’t have that hydrophilic down, so that might be a disadvantage for some people, alright guys. Hey, what’s going on guys I’m back again, I have another jacket, I’m gonna review today, in this very cold day, it’s about 50 degrees. It is about a rain or sleet or something I’m north of New York and we went 9 91 degrees last week, so 50 degrees today for the high this weekend. So it’s really crazy weather today, houses about to do something so I have the Patagonia down sweater. Now this jacket gets a lot of attention online in public wherever you go, someone’s either talking about getting this jacket or the time around great.

These jackets are these jackets are awesome. Very lightweight, 800 fill down, Patagonia is down is traceable, so it’s semi, environmentally friendly as environmentally friendly, as you can get with put it down jacket or jacket. That’s used in animal parts actually previously had one in green in a green, color, I’m, sorry in a deep sea blue, same color, but interior was neon green. This is the underwater blue I think it’s called I’m gonna correct it down below in the description, but it’s a French Red in tier.

It’s very rare. It’s one of those armed limited editions that they had for 2016 here. So this is the blue color with the French red interior, as well as the zippers there and I’m 5 foot 8 inches. You guys all know me. Although the channel I’m 157 pounds I haven’t gained weight or lost weight, so this is a size medium. It measures about 21 and a half inches across the chest, 28 from the bottom of the collar.

It does have a drawstring toggle in the front and both sides here and the sleeves are articulated. So it has a nice range of motion without the jacket riding up on you previously had this in a high loft, the high lob down sweater, which I got rid of I’ve, had that for since 2011, and they one of my first videos on gear jackets gear and clothing reviews was on that jacket. The Patagonia high lob down and I think Patagonia discontinued and replaced it with this.

One. Much lighter jacket, 800 fill is awesome. It means for a lighter weight. Jacket can take this off, so you guys could see you to use a bright red coloring like that interior. It is not waterproof. It is treated with a water resistant DWR thing, which is why you have to wash these jackets with either powder detergent Nick wax to keep that water resistancy on the surface, because once the dog gets wet, the jacket is useless, you’re gonna get cold and it’s not gonna.

Keep you as warm. It’s gonna become heavier and soggy once that down gets wet, so keep remember, never use fabric. Softeners are liquid detergents to wash these coats and I like to put them in. You can put them in a dryer with tennis balls to get the fluff back up, but I prefer a line dry and then do you like the tumble kind of a tumble dry. After the most of the damage dried up with tennis balls like a tumble, low, low heat trying just to get that clock back up and it’s the inside now this jacket does stuff into its pocket.

I’m gonna demonstrate that in a minute, there’s not much I could say about this. Like I said these things I think retail 230 dollars at Patagonia stores, but you can get one of these online from the year before or two seasons ago, whether slightly use they’re still new for under $100, so I’m gonna stuff this right into the pocket, so you guys can see and that’s kind of cool, it’s bright red becomes a bright red pillow.

So I like these two-tone jackets, because you know one side is blue at the inside- is red, so it looks completely different is not reversible. You only wear this on one side. Look Patagonia is a lot of the apparel. Now it’s becoming reversible, where you can wear stuff inside out, but this is not one of those and easy stuff stuffs in there real easy. This is the inside pocket is stuffed into like I said in my last video when I think the art area melty hoodie, these stuffed pillows, these stuff sack pillows, become really great airplane companions.

If you’re flying and you in coach- and you have the regular standard seat, you just want a nice for a neck, pillow and you’re good to go, and that’s it guys. This is my catagonia down sweater. These come in a whole bunch of colors prices range, like I, said under $100 to $220 retail, for this guy and awesome jacket definitely get one very warm. You can put this on there like on it’s very compressible when you wear it.

So that means you can put this on the raincoat or under, like a business trenchcoat to keep yourself warm I’ve ever seen, guys in my office. Wear these same jackets under, like a sports jacket. Sweater I used to have this one in the older one, I reviewed it in a couple videos back. You could check that I was a purple. I think was graphite. Navy color I got rid of it. The nylon I find don’t last as long and this Patagonia products after a couple of years, like four to five years, the 9 on stars to Tyrion as well as cops, they got a soiled and sort of shredded a little bit from daily use, and that’s it guys.

Tents, that’s as much your little less you want, and then you can roll it up. The Patagonia down sweater is made of wind resistant, polyester and down insulation. The down insulation is a advanced, global, auto able and is certified through that organization. This means you can um, they trace the down from the farm to the factories, so they always know that it’s being treated properly and right, it has undersigned, recycled polyester as well for all the stitching and the wind resistant material.

My time, though, using this sweater um, it’s not very wind resistant I. Will it’s not for lots of cold winds, so you’re gonna want an extra shell or rain jacket of some sort to help. Keep that wind off of you, but it’s a super great layer for all different types of situations and temperatures. It is super great for during the summer, then you can pack down and down.

Insulation is naturally temperature of managing. This means like if it’s so super warm with a bit of a cool breeze. You can put this on and it’s not gonna make you too too hot right. You should also wear it in the wintertime down like minus five, and it will help keep you warm assuming you have a little bit of a shell on overtop for that wind, but with 800 fill power.

It is super light and packs am super small, like many of their other jackets. It has. It is April to pack down into its own pocket. They have a pocket on the inside right here, which you can use to pack it down, and it is Park sound super nicely, as you see, does take a little bit of time to pack down, but you can pack it down super small. However, you don’t really need to use the pocket, always if you’re packing it into a bag with other things, as I just naturally packs out just as small, without the pocket and I find.

Generally, it’s a bit easier to pack with other things, not using the pocket and just packing it around other objects in your backpack. This warmth ratio also means, though, that it is going to be very warm and, if you’re wearing it up with a few other things, there are gonna be times. Probably gonna want to unzip it one thing with the downpipe sweaters like this is durability, although compared to others.

This so is a very durable jacket and based they do rip they’re decently easily. So- and you want to be careful, although Patagonia is really great about this and can send you patches to repair it super easily and super perfectly. So it’s just as new and if you do lose some of your feathers and need to get part if they were placed and stitched up, you can also send it into patagonian.

They can do this for you for a low price, although generally the patches work more than enough they’re free. It’s probably it’s the better way to go generally yeah, so the Patagonian it’s best uses for this down sweater is I, find it’s great for a great mid layer. It works perfectly if you think you’re gonna have to be taking it on and off and is really good, because you can pack it down super small put in your backpack or your pack and kind of forget that it’s there until you need it.

One thing that the Patagonia down sweater is still good at, but not quite as good as some other mid layers on the market is its breathability. It is super warm, but if you’re doing a heavy activity for a long period of time, you may find you may be getting a little sweaty and it’s a little hard for there to get in and up. You know it’s just unzip it and it’s super.

It works super well or, if you’re laying it, you can always just take it off real, quick pocket away. Super small just out of your way the mid layer performs great for variety of situations, as I said, and different seasons, as well. I’ve used mine all year, long for from canoe trips to winter, camping and minus 30 to 40 degrees, and it has helped keep me warm and dry throughout all this.

It is down, however, so if it is to get wet, it’s not going to keep you nearly as warm as a synthetic jacket would, however, most the time if you’re wearing it under a shell or another layer. This isn’t really too big of an issue. I’m Brandon this is Patagonia, is top five jackets coming in at number five, the ultra lightweight down sweater jacket. Now there is a cool couple features on this jacket, specifically that I like, even though it’s all about on my list, but remember these are at the top of the industry. So the first thing is this jacket: shell is made from 100% recycled polyester rip stop material.

Now, if you’re not familiar with what ripstop is, it is basically a fabric that, even if he gets punctured, it’s not going to tear off a different direction. It’s not going to fall any seams. It’s gonna contain that rip to the smallest area possible. This has the DWR finish, which stands for durable water, repellent when you’re dropping 230 bucks on this jacket or any jacket for that matter.

You’re gonna want to have that peace of mind that your water pumps gonna hold up, there’s nothing worse than spending a ton of money on something just to find out that it’s not gonna be able to be used in just about any reasonable scenario. Now for you techies out there. This has an 800 fill goose down. This jacket, like I, said retails at 230 bucks.

You can find it various deals and prices out there. I was able to find a few just from searching on the internet. What you’re gonna find? Actually, as you go out, looking for the shack is you’re gonna want to know the fill rating. You’re gonna want to understand, what’s right for the climate that you plan to be in because there’s nothing worse than spending so much money on a down jacket and having it be incredibly, too hot or really not warm enough for the scenarios that you’re gonna be in now.

If you don’t understand how warm down jackets are find a friend who has one put one on and just move around for a little bit, it’s really easy in a mild climate to start to sweat in those because of the amount of insulation that it has, the pockets are zippered and they have storm flaps to you know relatively protect whatever you got in there now, like I, said, there’s a few things that I really love about this jacket, and this one specifically is about one of my favorite features of one of my least favorite features now the hem that runs on the bottom rain jacket and that people throw a bungee, cord and I.

Think it’s a compound designed to do that. That’s why it’s my least favorite feature, my most favorite feature that Patagonia has done is they’ve, taken the pull tabs that usually sit on your hips and they’ve put them inside the pockets. So, if you’re getting called the wind’s coming at you ears in the pockets and you’re good now this jackets ultra lightweight it’s weighing in at eight ounces.

Again, it’s gonna be wind proof. It’s super warm! It’s water-resistant and it is comfortable. These jackets are meant to work with you super I again, I can’t stress how lightweight they are and the the performance value that you’re getting at all. Now. My only gripe with this and my gripe with most jackets is that there’s no hood so yeah deal with it now.

This jack is for those people are going on. Who are one of three scenarios? I say only one, because this one specifically from cold to very cold weather now I’m, not talking about you being out and sideways rain sideways snow blizzards. You know sub-zero degrees. This jacket is not for that. If you’re getting yourself in those type of scenarios, you’re gonna know that you’re gonna have to change some stuff up by different gear stuff, that’s rated for those harsher environments, but on the other end of that, if you’re looking for something for cool summer nights or the beginning of fall, this jacket, specifically this one with the 800 fill, is not also not gonna, be for you, this jackets for the people who are wearing it late fall all of winter early spring when it’s cold.

When your temperatures are below freezing now, as you’ll find out from the rest of the jackets on this list, this jacket is also for the people who want to be a top a-list trendy, because because everyone thinks they know who you are, when you’re wearing a puff jacket, if you’re one of the people who like to feel like you’re at the top of the list, well then get one of these.

If wearing down. It’s just really not that important to you. There’s a lot of other great options: you’re just usually gonna be a little bit heavier, but you know I, don’t wear it down coming in at number, four is Patagonia is not a puff jacket. Nano puff jacket, naina nano puff jacket, say that five times fast now this one, oh this one gets me going now if you’ve never heard of Parmalat Rhema loft insulation.

Now, if you’ve never heard of primo loft insulation you’re about to learn what this one is coming in really close to the top of all a jackets of Patagonia mix. There’s a couple of really amazing features that this insulation, specifically gifts, number one. It’s super warm Patagonia claims that 98% of the heat that your body radiates is going to be retained within the shell of the jacket and you might think wow yeah, that’s sweet.

That sounds a lot like, maybe down jackets, but here’s where the technology comes in. If you know what a thing about down or puff insulation in general, you know that if you apply pressure on it and you reduce that air space, you end up reducing the insulation value on it. Well, the thing about this primo loft insulation is that you can actually still compress it.

You can get it wet even and it is still there to keep you warm once you do that to a Down Jacket, you compress it get it wet. You don’t have really a jacket left for now, if coming in about 1 4 pounds, but just keep in mind, 1 4 pounds for a jacket that acts like a down jacket but ditches all those negative aspects of having a damn jacket. This one’s gonna run you about 250 bucks, but as I did some research I found that it was actually pretty easy to find stuff that was on sale, last year’s models, different deals that were just going on a random websites where you can pick them up.

So if you’re, one of those people who likes the latest and greatest go out and get it stuff looks awesome. But if you want to get performance, they’ll save a couple bones: just do a little research. That’s out there again, a shag gets warm when proof water. Is this simple lightweight and it’s just it’s uber comfortable you’re gonna have storm flaps to cover all your zips.

Now I would say. The Nano puff check is for people who are on a little bit more practical side from the sweater down jacket people. These people are people who are highly active to getting out there having tons of fun they’re getting themselves into, maybe sticky situations, sometimes you’re gonna be out. You’re gonna be having a great time. You’re gonna be really deep out into nature and you’re.

Gonna have a great time and you’re gonna have a great jacket to support you in that I wouldn’t recommend the shack for people who are planning on taking it easy there’s a lot better options coming in at number. Three is a cloud Ridge jacket now boom this jacket, it’s for your wild ones. This is a three layer fully waterproof jacket. They have their H.

You know tech on this and if that was enough, they’re still putting their DWR right on top of that, Patagonia had the outdoor adventures in mind because they made this compatible with their alpine helmet. Now, it’s even better than that, they were provided a laminated visor on the hood, so you’re not getting a bunch of crinkling up here on top you’re still creating a brow.

That’s gonna help! You have peripheral vision. Now this jacket comes in at four pounds and sometimes with these heavier duty jackets, you can have a little bit of rough areas around the neck. Typically around the zipper they put a micro fleece liner on your neck and chin area. So, as you’re looking around for your next adventure, you’re not getting chafed up there now, like all the jackets on this list, this is also got the draw cord hem.

But the nice thing that Patagonia provided for this jacket was a lightweight stuff sack. One of the things, though, that I do really like about the shack. Is the Patagonia knew that if we’re gonna make this a fully waterproof, we still need it to breathe. You don’t want it to feel like you’re wearing a garbage bag. Now they did this for people who are gonna be in those high humidity conditions like the South like tropical areas like you know, right after it rains and everything’s soaking wet.

They wanted to make sure that this thing didn’t feel like a plastic sack on your body and just in case it started getting too hot in there. They provided plenty of ventilation to handle that one of my favorite parts and one of my favorite features that hoods can have on any jacket or hoodie is two ways of just ability around the face around the back of the head.

That way, especially when you’re out there you’re wearing things like headlamps, your hood can actually start to turn with your head as you’re moving around if you’ve ever worn a hood and a headlamp at the same time, and you tried to look to your left your hoods on the way, so this is to help mitigate that now, like I said, this is a four pound jacket.

The interesting thing about this jacket, though, is that it’s not really for cold weather. This jacket is to keep you dry dry, so if you’re gonna be planning on being in cold environment, think about throwing the Nano puff underneath there’s plenty good options for base layers. That’s gonna help take your ultimate water protection and still keep you warm at the same time.

This jacket really is for people who are out in it. So if you are not planning on being in the rough of it, don’t buy this jacket, but if you’re out there you’re battling the humidity you’re battling, the mist you’re battling the rain. This jacket- oh it’s gonna! Do you get now this cloud Ridge jacket, pretty expensive coming in 250 bucks now coming in at number.

Two is a torn shell jacket again, a super cool feature that Patagonia is doing with this jacket is building it out of recycled material. 100%, now same as the last jacket. This says the h2, no tech, but it only has 2 5 layers a water protection again same as the last jacket. We’ve got a two-way adjustable hood, a comfortable micro, fleece, lying neck and chin area to zip hand warm pockets, and the cool part about this jacket specifically, is that you can stuff it right into its own pocket.

That’s dope. Now this jacket does weigh four pounds, but for value illness list coming in just under $100 that’s hard to beat that deal. Just like the last jacket. It’s breathable, it’s waterproof. It’s got storm flaps for all your pockets, but probably the thing that brings this jacket towards the top of the list, for me is that you can store it in its own pocket.

The self contained something you’ve thrown in the back of your car for off-the-cuff adventures and speaking of whoo. This thing is for it’s for those people who probably driving four-wheel, drive vehicles or they’re, trying to make the card four-wheel drive vehicle and get way out to adventures that you didn’t plan, it’s just a great jacket to have sitting in the back your trunk all the time, because it’s really gonna keep you prepped, for whatever you decide to do now.

Coming in at number, one is the better sweater. What wardrobe wouldn’t be complete with a solid base layer that doubles as casual wear that doubles as status, symbol, business Patagonia and that people who see you wearing it know you’re out there getting it. Maybe the sheket is 100 percent fully polyester fully ziffel jacket, two-zip hand warm pockets.

Now, one of the features that they did say that this jacket has is an anti chafe flat seam, which it’s a fleece jacket and it kind of makes it sound like they’re planning you, maybe not wearing a shirt underneath it sometimes I, don’t know, teach their own now, with the better sweater. This thing’s been around for quite a while, and you can find quite a few different designs.

The newest latest and greatest is gonna, come in about 100 bucks, but you know if you’re looking for last year, models or just deals in general, which I was easily able to find on this jacket, it’s not hard to find a really great looking design for this jacket. A nice thing that Patagonia did with this jacket specifically, is that polyester, it is a plastic base material, but they made it moisture wicking, so you don’t again feel like you’re wearing a garbage bag.

Another great thing about this jacket: it’s machine washable. Now this jack, it only weighs 1 6 pounds, but I have to tell you particularly white. This one made it to the top of the list. I can’t stress enough how important a good base layer is. This better sweater can not just be worn as an individual jacket by itself that looks great, but you’re gonna be able to throw this underneath your Walmart brand jacket, you’re gonna, be able to throwing this underneath any of the other jackets that Patagonia puts out any of the other jackets that you’ve really be wearing anywhere.

It’s a really solid layer to add a great insulation value to anything that you have specifically, if you’re talking about things like the cloud rich jacket, which is just a waterproof shell, designed really to keep it dry. This is where these type of jackets come in and they really fill the gap. So if you don’t have one consider giving one, the only cons that I have for these jackets is that Paul, yes or over time develops a character that, if you’re not rugged enough, can end up looking pretty chintzy, because all the little fabrics clumping together, but if you’re using it right and you’re getting out in the outdoors like you should be, then you get a pass and the wear characteristics make you look real good.

Everyone, this is the Patagonia Men’s down sweater and I’ve, had it for a year now and I just wanted to do a quick video on this, because I see online that it’s a really popular jacket and that’s one of the reasons I got it. But you know to be perfectly honest: it’s really you know it’s not that useful. For me. Ever since I bought my scintilla snap tee pullover, you know this has really just stayed in the closet, except for when it’s windy and that’s one of the only things that I like about it.

Is that it’s wind proof- and you know it’s extremely wind proof- actually I’ve got to give it a 5 out of 5 stars on wind proof miss that part of the jacket is great. So this is a double X, I’m, 6 foot, 6, inches I’ve, pretty long arms, but I ordered this jacket too big. It’s not slim fitting in any way shape or form, as you can tell here, but for some reason, I I guess: I just didn’t notice it online when I bought it.

The arm length is perfect, but it’s just way too baggy around the middle and the reason I have not exchanged it yet is because well I, don’t think I’m going to exchange it. Just because you know I I know that they have outstanding customer service and they probably would take it back. But that’s you know, I, just look at it as I paid for this. You know, I should have known better or I should have made a more informed purchase on the sizing when I bought it.

So I look at that as my fault and that’s not Patagonia’s fault, so I just want to do this quick video and tell you guys what I don’t like about it, and maybe this can help some you out. If you’re thinking about purchasing this. So first like I, said the arms are. Actually you know that the arms are I would say true size, but the body of the jacket basically is just extremely baggy.

You know I can’t I, honestly, wouldn’t wear this out like downtown or to dinner, or anything I only wear this up in the mountains and just for around the house. When I’m out in the garage cutting wood, because I do build a lot of coffee tables and end tables and whatnot, so I, don’t I, don’t wear this downtown around other people just because it is so darn baggy around me, um I! You know it just doesn’t look very good, but I’ll show you guys the thickness, because this jacket is it’s kind of poufy without being thick um, which I kind of like.

But it’s just not very warm and that’s why I don’t like it! This jacket to me is not warm. My since shilla snap, tea pullover is honestly just as warm and if the winds blowing I can just throw my torrentshell on over the top of it, and you know, I get so warm with that setup that I end up opening up the the pit zips on my torn shell and for the most part just leaving the torna shelf completely unzipped, as opposed to wearing this.

Just because it’s not very warm and I’m a little I’m actually really disappointed in that for warmth. I would honestly give this probably a 1 and a half out of 5 stars for warmth. I’ve worn this up in the mountains quite a bit more times than I can count, and it’s it’s just not enough. I’ve worn it in when I used to live in Colorado I wore this any time.

I went to the mountains and honestly I was always cold and I had to bring a lot of extra gear with me, but this is really the only puffy that I had. So this is what I had to make work, and now that I live elsewhere, it’s still it’s it’s just still, not warm so for the warmth. I would give it honestly a 1 and a half out of 5 stars and I usually run hot I, usually prefer.

You know, call the rooms, colder climates and whatnot and because I usually do run so warm. But this is just it like I said it’s great for wind. If you want to buy this for a windy area where it gets a little bit cold, this might work. You might have to get the one with the hood, but it’s just it’s really, not that warm for the price you pay for it.

I wish that I would have gotten the high loft or the hooded nano puff, so that I could have layered that with mice and Shilla, and that is the other mistake that I made when I bought. This is I, didn’t get the one with the hood and I. Just just seemed that you know I would just never need it and it would just kind of be chilling back there, but it’s better to need it or have it it’s better to have it and not need it than need it and not have it and that’s what I ended up happening to me with this I planned on wearing this casually and then when I do go up in the backcountry, and so for that reason, for the casual aspect, I didn’t get.

The hood and I was just a stupid mistake and I mean just that was a rookie mistake. Honestly and that’s my fault. I should have been thinking like that, but yeah. This is the down sweater. I’ll show you guys so the pockets are, the pockets are extremely deep like it goes all the way to the zipper. You know this drawcord down here is very nice for keeping additional wind out and straight down here and then inside the pockets.

You guys can pull it without taking your hands out, and you can see that it will start to cinch the bottom of one of the things I do like about this. No hooded want this. No hooded version, though, is the fact that the down is all the way up into the neck, and that’s you know it’s just a creature, comfort and yeah I, don’t know it just it feels good so around the wrists here it.

You know it really doesn’t stretch that much, but it does stay in place. You know it’s not always opening up and it’s definitely not clothing, so it pretty much just stays like this. For the most part um, that’s that’s sort of the loft on it and it’s actually like it that bubble loft it doesn’t. It actually looks pretty good, but it’s for some reason.

It’s not it’s just not that freaking warm! So that is that’s pretty much it guys. I just want to make this video for you guys that are out there. Thinking about buying the Patagonia Men’s down sweater and you’re wondering if you should go with, maybe the Nano puff or the high loft and I would definitely suggest that if you are looking for down, they go with the high loft and, if you’re looking for something, maybe a little bit thinner that you could layer with say essential.

A snap tee definitely go with the Nano puff with the hood and another great thing about the Nano puff is its wind proof just like this is, but you can also get a so in emergency situations. You know, or something does turn into an emergency. You won’t have to worry about it and that’s just added peace of mind, and you know, like I said this isn’t very warm.

Hey guys today, we are testing out two, the patagonia down sweater versus the patagonia micropuff. That’s next welcome to backcountry renegade I’m jeff. Today we are looking at the patagonia down sweater versus the patagonia micro puff. Both these jackets are some best sellers from patagonia. The down sweater has been in existence for a long time and it’s been one of the classic jackets from patagonia.

The micropuff is more of a newcomer to the lineup and it features synthetic insulation that is made to mimic the same qualities as down now the down sweater, as the name just uses goose down, feathers, 800 fill, and so it’s a really good quality down jacket, while maintaining light weight. Now, ultimately, what this may come down for you is the debate between down versus synthetic now. Just to highlight a few of those high points here.

Down is usually a very good warmth to weight ratio, so you can have really good lightweight jacket, while maintaining some amazing warmth. Now synthetic these days are becoming more and more closer as they try to mimic the qualities of down, and the micro puff is a great example of that down is also usually more compressible than synthetic, so it’s easier to pack and it can be lighter as well, where synthetic, on the other hand, is actually a bit better when you’re in moist and wet conditions, because it can maintain its loft even while wet another thing is down’s traditionally going to be longer lasting, you can have down last a really long time, use it wash it dry it and it can actually regain its loft, where synthetic over time will gradually deteriorate a lot faster than down.

So those are just a few things to keep in mind when considering the great debate between down versus synthetic now, let’s take a deeper look at the down sweater versus the micro puff and see a little bit more about what might be the better jacket for you now. The down sweater is a classic jacket from patagonia. It is also one of their top selling jackets for a long time. It’s been around for over 15 years with little alterations.

It comes in multiple sizes colors and can even come in a hooded version. It also has a regular fit this. One here is a size small. It sells new for 229 dollars and you can find it on sale every now and then it is made of global traceable down and the shell is made of recycled materials. It is touted as being able to give the perfect warmth now. The micro puff, on the other hand, is a newer addition that is made of synthetic insulation that is made to mimic the same qualities as down now it retails for 249 dollars new, but I have found it on sale recently at rei for only 149 dollars.

So if you’re looking for this jacket now is definitely a time to get it, it also has multiple sizes and colors, but a little bit less options as far as colors than you do have with the down sweater. It can also come in a hooded option. Now this is touted by patagonia as being able to provide the best warmth to weight ratio of any jacket. Patagonia has ever produced now. Looking at these two, we do have a few similarities.

Both of them obviously are made by patagonia. Both of them are hoodless versions. You can find them in hooded versions. They are both lightweight jackets and both compressible and they’re good insulation layers as well. Both these jackets have a great warmth to weight ratio, both of them have elastic cuffs, and both these jackets can serve as a layer underneath a shell. Both of them are relatively windproof and both have a dwr finish now, let’s take a look at some of the differences, as we look a little bit more in depth on each jacket.

Now, the down sweater is made of wind resistant rip, stop polyester. It is 20 by 30 denier for added durability in certain areas where you need it more. It is also treated with a dwr finish to help repel water and it can shed light rain, but is not fully waterproof, so make sure if you get in heavy rains, you do want to put a shell on this jacket. The polyester is actually made of recycled material from previous year’s jackets.

So it’s pretty neat that they’re trying to be environmentally friendly by using polyesters from other jackets that they have used in the past. Now the micro puff is made of tindineer rip, stop pertex quantum, and it’s also coated with a dwr finish. So you can tell right off the bat that this is a lot more fragile, delicate material than your down sweater. It is super lightweight, it is super, durable and windproof, and also water repellent.

But it’s not also waterproof as well, since the micro puff is a lot thinner denier than the down sweater. It is going to be more delicate and prone to damage and tears. Now, let’s talk about the insulation. The down sweater is made of 85 grams of 800 fill power european down now this is pretty neat, because this is really high quality down the higher fill power, the more lofty it is, and you don’t have to use as much down, which means you can get the kind of warmth you’re after with using less down, which means less weight.

So that’s a really good sign for the down sweater. The down that makes up this jacket is advanced global, traceable down, which means you can trace the down from farm to factory. So you can rest assured that the way that the down was sourced was very a good ethical way. It means that they were never force fed or live plucked, which is the best sustainable way to source down. So that’s pretty neat for that.

Now, one of the downsides of this downs- it’s not hydrophobic down, which means that’s kind of down. That’s coated with mick wax to help it be a bit more water resistant. So you do not have that kind of down in here it’s just regular down, so if it gets wet, it will lose its loft. So just be aware of that now the micro puff uses 65 grams of plumophil synthetic insulation. Now this is a new kind of insulation.

Patagonia came up with. That is meant to replicate the structure of down while providing similar, warmth and compressibility, and the down is actually kind of hair like strands and it maintains its loft even when it’s wet so pretty neat for that now, let’s talk about the weight. The down sweater actually uses a lot more down insulation for its jacket, and so it brings the weight to 371 grams for the jacket.

That’s 13 1 ounces now compare that to the micro puff, which weighs in at only 235 grams or 8 3 ounces. So significantly less here for the micro puff. That’s 136 gram difference so pretty awesome to consider how lightweight you can go with this micro puff, while still maintaining warmth. Now, let’s talk a little bit about the warmth, the down sweater, I started to feel cold around 19 degrees fahrenheit, where in the micro puff, I started to feel cold around 24 degrees fahrenheit.

So the down sweater is going to be the warmer of the two jackets. Basically because it’s using a lot more insulation, but the result is you’re gonna get a lot more uh. It weighs a lot more so something to consider now for the micro puff it has the best warmth to weight ratio. It really favors the micro puff here. A big selling point for the micro puff is how lightweight it is, but how warm it is so when you’re out in in the field and out in the cold you’re not going to notice a huge difference, I was able to notice it a little bit, but the down sweater is slightly warmer, but you are going to be sacrificing more on the weight.

Now, let’s talk a little bit about the quilting pattern. Now for the down sweater, you have the traditional down baffles here, which each has a compartment filled with down, and this is good because it helps prevent the down from going further into the jacket. It stays in one place and keeps it nice and lofty in that area, and you can see how this goes. The pattern continues through the arms all the way to the side and also here in the back now.

You do have these panels here on the bottom, where you have a little bit more of a strip that goes all the way around as well, so it goes all the way into the collar as well with those baffles. So that’s just a traditional way. You have down now one of the downsides, no pun intended about that. Is these baffles every time you get a sewing stitch. You don’t have down in that area, so it can be cold.

It can actually have wind go through as well, so it can feel a little bit colder and have to work a little bit harder to put more down to make. You feel more warm because of the stitching now compare that to the micro puff, unlike the down baffles and unlike the traditional brick pattern like we see on the nano puff, the micro puff has what we call horizontal seams. The horizontal stain seams actually have less stitching, so you have more insulation surrounding the areas, which means less areas where there’s no insulation and less areas where wind can penetrate through now.

This does help maintain warmth a lot better. However, I kind of tend to feel that the down sweater is the more stylish of the two jackets. If we’re just comparing jackets based on style now, I will say that the horizontal seams does really help maximize the loft. So there is a really cool innovation that patagonia has come up with with this new stitching with this micro puff. Here now, let’s compare the pockets as you look at the down sweater.

The down sweater has the traditional side pockets here, and this is about typical length that you see them. It feels real comfortable when you put your hands in your pockets. Compare that to the micro puff the pa. The pockets are actually a little bit higher up, and the purpose of that is so you can wear a harness and it won’t interfere with the pockets where, if you wear a harness with the down sweater, it’s more likely going to interfere a bit more with those pockets.

Let’s talk about inside pockets, the down sweater actually has one inside pocket right here and this inside pocket. You can put small things like keys a phone, but another cool thing about it is the whole jacket can compress into this one pocket now compare that with the micro puff the micro puff. Doesn’t have that inner chest pocket instead, what it does have here open this all the way is you have two really large stow pockets, these drop stove pockets.

You can put goggles, you can put beanies gloves anything in there. I really like that feature. There really has a lot more storage capability inside now. I can understand why they don’t put that pocket when they have these things in here and again, it seems like this is an effort more to save weight, because you don’t have metal or poc zipper material there on the inside. Now, let’s talk about the cuffs.

Both these jackets have elastic cuffs. They both do a good job of coming tight around your wrist so that it keeps the wind out and the warmth in also, let’s look at the draw cords. The uh down sweater here actually has two draw cords in here, so you can tighten and cinch down the waist of your jacket to prevent any cool breezes from coming in and keeping the warm air inside as well. Now. Compare that to the micro puff.

The micro puff does not have any of those drawstrings on the bottom here; instead, it also has elastic. Now the elastic does a good job being able to keep the jacket tight, but you’re not able to adjust it according to your preference. Now I understand why they do that and- and I’m actually preferring this, because it helps you save weight so if weights a factor if you’re a gram counter and you’re taking this backpacking- and you want the lightest possible jacket for you out of these two- the micro puff- is going to be the lighter one, but you are going to be sacrificing some of these.

Maybe creature comforts here like that drawstring there. Now, let’s talk about compression, as I said earlier, the down sweater can compress into the inner chest pocket. So let’s check that out, and so this is how the down sweater can compress the nice thing about it is it has a two-way zipper, so you can go ahead and zip up the jacket. Now, let’s compare that how the micro puff compresses and it compresses into its left side pocket and it compresses the same, and you also have that little little cord here, so you can hang it on a carabiner.

Now, comparing it there they’re very similar, you can see that the down sweater obviously is the bigger of the two there that you see and holding them up. You can see a significant difference. The down sweater is definitely the heavier of the jackets when they’re compressed like this, not a huge difference. When you look at it this way, but you can definitely tell a difference, and the micro puff is the lighter of the two jackets so concluding thoughts who won the jacket battle for me? Was it the patagonia down sweater or the patagonia micro puff? For me personally, I have to go with the patagonia micro puff and the reason is because the pros really outweighed the cons when comparing the two for one the patagonia micro puff is going to be a lot more comfortable.

I feel a lot looser and I can even do a lot of reaching if I’m wearing this, to climb and hike and backpack, so it’s better because you can also use it to maintain a harness without it interfering in your pockets. So another really cool thing. The micro puff- is also going to be a lot more breathable than the down sweater. So that is another pro for that. Another thing I like about the down sweater is the internal drop pockets that you have on both sides, they’re, pretty big.

You can use it to store, gloves or goggles, where the down sweater only has that one internal left napoleon pocket on the chest. Another pro about the micro puff is it is lighter and more compressible. So if you’re, backpacking and you’re looking for a layer to put on at camp once you get there or you’re looking for something to wear as a really good, warm mid layer, the micro puff is a really good option, while saving a lot of room in your backpack and the weight as well, especially if you’re a gram counter another pro about the micro puff is even though it is listed at 249 new.

You can often find this one on sale. Currently, as I was filming this video, I was finding it on rei for as low as 150 dollars. So something to keep in mind when searching for the micro puff is you can often find it on sale. Another pro about the micro puff is the warmth to weight ratio. It is lightweight, but it has great warmth for its size and weight, and a lot of the reason is because of these really cool sew seams.

It’s the horizontal sew streams to have a really minimal sewing so that you don’t have any areas where there’s no insulation in any areas where the wind can penetrate so really cool feature with the innovation of that new sewing technology style. Now, let’s consider the cons. The biggest con about the micro puff is the durability. It is 10 denier on the shell compared to the 20 and 30 denier on the down sweater, and so this is going to be a lot more prone to abrasions and holes, and so you have to be careful when you’re backpacking and going through trees and branches and stuff.

So it doesn’t tag on anything and produce some holes. Another con about the micro puff is the insulation is a little bit hair like, and so, where you do have the seams. You can actually sometimes see it looks like hair. Well, if you pull it, that’s actually pulling out insulation, so you have to be very careful. It’s a whole lot better to just cut it rather than to pull it because you don’t want to pull out insulation.

Another con about the micro puff is, it doesn’t have the hem since cords, like you, have in the down sweater, that’s really kind of a luxury when it comes down to getting into a jacket. This lightweight the elastic really does do the job, but if you’re, one who really wants to dial in the fit and everything you can’t do that with the micro puff, but you just have the elastic, and one big con to actually consider as well for the micro puff is its lifespan.

It’s going to have a whole lot. Shorter life span overall than the down sweater. The down sweater can regain its loft after it’s washed and dried, and it has the stronger shell part of the exterior of the jacket than the tin to near on the outside. But over time synthetic insulation will gradually gradually deteriorate and it will lose its loft and that cannot be gained back just by washing it and putting it in a dryer like you can with down.

So something to consider now for what it is. I really do like the down sweater. It is a really good jacket. It is high quality down, it is relatively lightweight, but if you’re using it for backpacking and hiking, it is a bit on the heavy side. That being said, it is great to wear around town. If you do like it, it’s I think, a bit more stylish than the micro puff with this design as well, so something to just keep in mind with this.

Now, if you are looking for a down jacket like this down sweater, I think there’s actually better options that are lighter and actually about the same kind of warmth. If you’re looking at something for backpacking and hiking, and such an option would be like, let’s say the the mountain hardwear ghost whisperer, that’s one there, and so, if you’re interested in seeing anything like that, let me know in the comments- and I can maybe make a comparison between this and the ghost whisperer any other down jacket that you might be interested in.
