Today of the Kelty Red Wing 44. This is a 44 litre backpack with hip straps. And a bunch of external pockets it's a relatively new release based on the. Most recent version of the Kelty Red Wing 50 which is a long-standing popular backpack on the market there's also a much smaller Red Wing 32 which is the 32 litre. And Kelty's got a whole range of products there's a. Few reviews of this backpack on YouTube but. Iwanted to give some personal perspectives. And also some up close you'll notice I'm actually quite zoomed in. You can't actually see the whole backpack. And that's on purpose. Because I'm actually well it's probably because of how my camera setup is here in my studio. And it's also because I'm going to be really focusing on a lot of the details. You can look at Kelty's own product video. Or other YouTube videos for what it looks like on somebody's back walking down the street but.

Iwant to focus on a. Few details and hopefully. This will be a pretty quick. And dirty review I purchased. This backpack just under a month ago so. Idon't have a huge amount of experience with. Ipurchased it initially. And used it right away for a week trip to Hawaii with my family. Iwanted something. That could basically be a carry-on suitcase bag. It does fit carry-on parameters. One pretty full as well as. Igot there a day hike bag. That wasn't too oversized. Or under sized as well as a diaper bag. Or just handling baby stuff which I've got going on in my life were. You know I may not need to pack a bunch of stuff for a six-hour day hike but. We might be just going to the beach. And there's big beach blankets. And so forth that take up a lot of space.

That would be too bulky for a regular day pack. Something is more of a backpack style think so. That was my reason for purchasing it. This video could be useful to. Anyone who wants to use. It for hiking or travel again. Because it's a sort of nice backpack but carry-on size for pretty much. Any airline I think would let. You on the plane with. You the basic overview again I'm going to start with I'm gonna focus pretty much on details I'm not gonna do. Everything that every other reviewers done but just. Some standout things. Ithink are relevant to a purchasing decision on. This pack because it's been very well reviewed sort of as a legacy of. All the great reviews of the Redoing 50 which. Idon't own, so I'm just coming to. It could my review is kind of next. You my feedback by the way.

This is orange tape here. And here as well as. This nite ize red plastic SP nor our add-ons. Everything else here is stopped so let. Me start with the straps. Most people most reviewers finished with the straps but let. Me start with the straps in general good lumbar support big padded hip strap with a good sized waist belt that's easy to adjust little manali type attachments on the waist on the padded portion of the waist strap so shoulder straps are nicely padded with load lifters which actually did work in my experience with. What little Hawaii load. Ihad for my trip chest strap is included pretty normal with the adjustments up. And down on the chest zipping right along pat pockets there are sorts of the visually defining feature. This pack is that there's. These vertical pockets on the left. And right both sides nice and spacious there's a pass-through pocket. That goes all the way through which. Ididn't really have much use for and put.

Some water bottle pocket the standard mesh pretty deep here from small to large there's a. What I guess people call an admin pocket with. All the various slots for pens. And notebooks in your iPhone here no little mini zip pocket but pretty packed admin pocket with a little key loop in the lid actually let. Me in the main compartment has. This top loader feature. You keep the compression straps. That sort of stops the top load. And just lets you stuff from above. You quickly undo quickly is the key feature here. You quickly undo it unzips pretty completely I'd say 80% of the way down to be a panel loader finally last but not least there's a little tiny pocket in the lid for sunglasses. Or your wallet keys. Or whatnot that's what I use.

It for and that's pretty much. It for basic specs and that's. What you'll see in other reviews let. Me point out a few specific features. That may or may not also be in other reviews there's a pretty heavy-duty handle here on the front for lifting this. More like a suitcase horizontally. Than typical backpack loop on top. Although as you saw with the orange tape there is a small issue loop on top as well so that's an interesting add-on. Idid use it's an iceberg I'll leave. Imentioned this briefly earlier but. Ididn't use this trip. Iappreciate it there being little sort of straps here for potentially adding pouches. Or just putting a flashlight with a little pocket clip. Something for hiking outdoors use also on the bottom of the pack. Each other and ears have mentioned there is also webbing two rows of webbing for a bedroll with lashing straps.

You really wanted to expand. This to make this up two. Or three day backpacking bags so those are nice the last little detail thing I'll mention. Idid find useful is on the backpack strap there's. This little elastic tensioner. Where no matter what your level of tightening of the main tie there's always a little tension because of. This elastic that actually very useful for keeping this functional as a chest strap as. Iwas walking along with a full load as well as the hip strap as well. One thing I will go over. Ithink is particularly relevant to folks shopping for this bag is water bottles for the side pockets. These side pockets scream out to be used with sort of your classic water bottle.

You can always put the things in the mesh pockets but a lot of people complain oh. If I'm packing along. II don't know this could fall out along the trail. Iwouldn't know till. Igot to my camp I had fallen out so people liked the idea of having the bottle storage on the side. It just seems common sense. You look at the design of the bag. However in their infinite wisdom healthy knowing. That there's pretty much. One universal size of Nalgene bottle made. It a little small sea. It is a little snug. It does fit that last little bend. And the zipper was a little tight. Iwill tell this backpack is empty. You have a full pack. Everything has bulged out. This is extremely hard to close. And actually risks damaging the zipper so. Iwanted to just mention a. Few things first they as well. Ihave a clean canteen here. That really doesn't fit. It sticks all the way out the top so. What I discovered well first of. All there's these little 16-ounce. No jeans and outfit no problem those are great.

You don't need a huge water supply but a solution. That worked you keep the 30 ounce sorry 32 ounce full liter capacity of the. Now gene of this guy but fitting in here with a little less hassle. Now gene makes these old school canteens shaped flat water bottles. And I'll tell you again. These fit easier as I'm demonstrating it. Because the pole pack isn't bulging at the seams but. This fits with a lot of room. And despair not a lot but. More room to spare less stress on the zipper. When you're loading up so. This isn't it's still sort of knock against the backpack. That the standard bottle doesn't fit easily.

This is just Universal among. Everybody but I know but there is a workaround. You still want a full liter water same capacity to fit in. These side pockets these pockets are also good for putting a little over shirt. You want to walk with layers. And not open your main pack over. And over again throughout the hike. Someone who's walking with. You unzip and take. It out for you or a hat without having to take off the pack. And break all down anyway water bottle holders for the side given. Ifound a workable 1 litre bottle. These pockets you got is. One of these one of these. You may be in trouble. You may have to use the mesh.

And the risk of falling out so. This pack is just straight from Hawaii. Ididn't wash anything my first general observation from the experience. You can see this with your own eyes here. Although the black is a little hard to see in the video is. It stays pretty clean the fabric is pretty good at standard distances a. Few marks but it down on the bottom not too bad unknown long-term durability again I've had. This just over one month. And really just took. One real trip to Hawaii not. That country hiking or. Anything but it worked good prose the main capacity main pocket capacity is very good it's shaped in a way. It bubbles out all the maximum cubic inches inside. You can use the water bladder holder. You want to I didn't use. That but it's its well-designed. And a compress straps at least the way they're designed to pull out.

And back to the four corners are good at holding the contents of the main pocket in as intended. Another Pro is that the fit. And weight distribution with the small amount of framing here with the aluminum rod. And the pack design. And the straps and the load lifters. All the strapping for me anyway was great for fit. And weight distribution. Ihad a pretty late load of mostly clothing I wasn't carrying and that'll cook kit for a backpack trip. Anything but I think for loads of. You know thirty pounds. Even forty pounds it's its a comfortable pack. Another pro the final. That I'll list is the looks. Or subjective in all consumer products but. Ilike minimal badging and labeling and reflective strips. And contrasting zipper pulls. And stuff this amount of badging just so. Icould see it on earth from a distance. And know it was my bag but really. Ilike the minimum minimalist look. You can decide in and other videos. You like the look there are. Some other colors but.

This sort of two-tone fabric. One is sort of smooth nylon. One is a little bit of a texture to. It is nice gives it a little bit of distinctive look but is minimalist which. Ilike let me talk about the things. And I'm rushing through here but let. Iwant to keep this quick let. Me talk about the things. Ididn't like about. This bag first and foremost the buckles. All the buckles seemed incredibly cheap in terms of the quality of the plastic. And the design these are guaranteed to break so the material of the buckles. Ireally don't like. And also the size these are the compression straps. It hard to even thread the tab into the slide. Many times it was just so small. Ifelt like I was threading a needle the chest strap which.

Iused every time it on it's a little bigger. Then the compression straps but. Ifound myself you know trying 10 10 times sometimes to get. It aligned and then. Ifelt like again it was so cheap. Ithought and didn't. And pushed I could very easily snap off. One of these guys the waist strap which is substantially bigger still feels for what it is super cheap. You just the hardware is like the material the fabric it's the fundamental of the bag it's got to work. Idid not have nothing broke on. This trip but is the first trip. Idid not have confidence in the quality of the buckles especially the compression straps which are tiny. And the chest rack which is still pretty small the other thing I did not like on the subject of small. And weak is the zippers. And the zipper poles are about as small as. You can get on a full-size pack again.

They work they didn't break this trip but. They did not inspire confidence a pull cord seems like a big cut corners. You know it's not so much an issue for. That in the pocket but. You fill out this big 44 litre main compartments let. You're really yanking on these zippers. You come around the corner in. This sort of s-curve to get the lid shut. It did not inspire confidence. It again made me feel like. This is gonna break sooner. Then later it's fine in Hawaii but. Iwouldn't want this to break. Either the zippers of the clasps in a back country hiking situation the last sort of con. That I'll talk about they're really left out at. Iwas using this bag for my first trip is. That the pocket capacity in the pocket design didn't seem great.

Icommented that the main compartment is great. Istand by it opens almost completely. It the sort of bubble shape of the pack. That sort of rounds. All serves to give the maximum capacity to the main compartment. This guy I feel like. Iput a shirt anything I mean there is like half an inch at the top of depth in. This bag and really not. That much at the bottom. Either there may be two inches. Ireally couldn't get. That much in here I couldn't access. Anything on the admin panels the other thing I'll say is. Itry to flip this open as. You would do in an admin panel situation trying to give it. Something this thing shut every time. Icould like jam and open but eventually. It going going it would just shut on. It was like someone was putting a prank on. Something every time. Itry to open this thing and again. Iwanted to fall back. It what's in here it was doubly hard. This goes for the top lid compartment to the pockets not.

That small but the opening is inexplicably small. They could have just made the zipper curved around just a little. You could get in there but again the pocket is maybe an inch deep at the front. And tapers to nothing at the back so you're just really excite. When your wallet or sunglasses not getting a lot of. Anything in there it seems like it's just a little. More thought of the design. These various issues. These various issues could have been addressed. One small break that won't really say it's a complaint but small bright. Idon't know if it'll come during the video is on the back you've got. All the padding for your back you've got the padding on the chest strap.

You got the padding on the waist belt the padding this won't come through in the video but the padding that's on the back surface is a nice sort of closed cell foam feeling like. You would expect in. This kind of padding however in the belt the waist strap. And the shoulder strap listen your. That crunchy it's like. They crumpled up a bunch of saran wrap. Something I mean there is foam in there but it's like it's somehow it's not just. This kind of traditional nice soft plush. Yet firm padding they just use. Something different in Enix Lucas inexplicably thinner. And a little noisier. Idon't know it didn't it's not a deal-breaker for me but. Ithought I'd point. Ihaven't seen it in other videos. Idon't know why there're two kinds of foam. If there's just some other shape holding material in their anyway not a pro definitely at least a grape so. Some pros and cons. And a grape again sorry. Iput the clothes up here by the way the s beaner from night eyes. This is the number for size fits perfectly in the two lower loops here.

You want to have something to easily attach a couple doodads to just a little backpack hack. Icame up with after purchasing the bag okay bottom line Kelty Red Wing 44 it's a good basic design. Isee why people like. Ilike the idea of outer pockets. And the mesh pocket. And multiple pockets in the main body of the bag the carry system is relatively sophisticated for a moderately priced bag. All the adjustments in the strap. And load carrying system are pretty good I'll give Kelty credit for. Ihave to say the zippers the material the clasps my gosh the clips are just. Idon't want to say unacceptable but just inexplicably low quality. And not confidence-inspiring for a bag of. This cost I got a deal on Amazon. Iwas sort of watching prices go up. And down as they do on. Any Amazon from about a hundred.

And twenty-two ninety-nine to. Whatever this bag on a day. It was actually about $80. Few cents and that's pretty reasonable. And I'll have to say for $80. This is a fairly priced bag. It does have quite a bit of capacity. It does have the weight bearing carry system for if. You are gonna go backpacking with. This for 80 bucks it's a reasonable value. Ican recommend I don't have a comparison with. Another bag of similar costs but. Ithink for 80 bucks its fair for a hundred. And twenty whatever else it's been going for even a hundred. Even ninety I don't know. Ijust think the materials are too weak to take. And carry out on a plane to go on vacation with your family in Hawaii maybe it's not a big deal cuz. If a clip breaks oh well. You just go down the road to get a repair. You went back home on the airline with a broken buckle but.

One of the very essential zippers. Or clasp break in a backpacking situation for which. This bag was designed that's no good. You can't do your compression straps. Or get your chest strap on. When you're carrying your load to pack out of the mountains. If a zipper breaks you can't. Even keep a flap closed. Ijust think that's unacceptable. Iwould not recommend. This really at any price certainly not over $100 to. Someone just going to use. This for backpacking use. It in the city use it for air travel use. It with my little water bottle hack for not breaking the zip. Or getting your bottle in. And out of the side pocket. You know as this sort of backpack diaper bag for a vacation. That worked for me I don't think I'm going to use.

This for its secondary intended use of hiking and backpacking and camping which. Ihope to use it for but it's just not up to snuff that's. This review has been helpful again sorry I'm sort of zoomed in here. This is kind of how my setup was but. Iput the black bag. Everything I wanted to be able to gather enough detail to show. What I was talking about with. All the various pros. And cons I've talked about what's important to. And relevant based on my use of the bag for a month tell. What you think in the comments. You disagree or agree. You have a different Kelty bag of different attributes. Or weaknesses another brand. You think I should try. Idon't want this for backpacking would love to hear comments.

The Kelty Red Wing 44 is able to carry. All of your gear for a long day hikes overnight travel. Or day to day use if you're looking for a larger capacity pack but. You don't want to go into a full-fledged multi-day pack it's got convenient pockets for all your gear a large u-shaped zipper access into the main compartment small side pockets spot for your water bottle. And lots of organization for your smaller items on the front the rigid back panel. And padding on the shoulder straps gives support but the mesh gives a lot of ventilation. Even remove the hip belt. When you're not using it. Ican see using this pack as a carry-on. Or an overnight backpack for lighter loads. This as being a mid sized pack. It falls somewhere in-between a smaller day pack. And a full-fledged multi day pack but. That means you can get a lot of different uses out of. If you're packing lightweight. You could probably take. This on an overnight. Or weekend backpacking but. You can also really cinch down the compression straps. And make it a much smaller pack for those day hikes for travel. Ican see this being great. It would fit into an overhead bin. You can really pack. Even know someone who uses. It as a diaper bag day-to-day. And it's the perfect size for. That so digging into. All the pockets want to start at the top here. You have a pretty shallow pocket up here. You can store some smaller shallow items, so we've got. One up there it's even got a key clip on the inside so. You can access your keys so. They don't get lost in the rest of the pack feature. Ireally love about. You have a large u-shaped zipper into the main compartment so.

It starts here runs. All the way around the pack. And over to the other side. You have these compression straps on top. You can actually open. It up just as a top lid. And almost use it as a top loader so. You don't have to open. All up to get to the items the top of your pack but as. Iremove some of the items here. You can see how much space. You really have to get in there. You open these compression straps. You can open this pack almost like a piece of luggage so. You can really fold. That down you can see. All the access you've got here. It has a zipper on either side. Even open the pack just on the side. And grab some things on the side. Or the bottom of the pack so really convenient zipper there. Iremove some of the things in there I've. Even got a sleeping bag tucked away in there. Some other items you can see. That big pocket on the front you've got an organizational pocket.

Isee the pack shining for kind of the day to day use I've got a little notebook my phone in there. Some pens and actually. Ihave a tablet it fits really nicely into. That sleeve as well so. You have access to put the tablet different places. And then just got an extra layer tucked down in there so it's a pretty deep pocket. You do have stretchy water bottle access there on. Either side and then. These side pockets are really nice. These bellows pocket. When you're not using them. They actually tuck away really nicely but. You do have access into the back so. You could store something longer like. You have tent poles. You can store them back there.

If you've got trekking poles. You have that pass-through to the stretchy pocket down there. And then again all kinds of compression straps on. You can make it a much smaller pack. You need to on the outside here. You have a tuck away carry handle. You can use to pick up the pack it's a nice durable handle. When the packs on the ground. Or laying on the floor it's really easy to pick. It up by you have daisy chain attachments there as well. And those tuck away really nicely so. If you're just using this day-to-day those don't get in the way moving down. You do have some tool loops here. You can use them as ice axe loops. Or trekking pole loops. You have these compression straps up here. They work really nicely. And attaching gear to the front of the pack. It around check out the back panel. And the shoulder straps. Ireally like the design here with. All the mesh this is called hex mesh.

And it's really wide open mesh. That allows a lot of breath ability turn the pack to the side. You can see how much padding there is on those key areas of your back so as you're wearing it. That padding is really going to keep the back panel up away from your back a little bit. And with these channels it's going to breathe well down here on the bottom. You can see a really nice lumbar pad that's going to really transfer the load of the pack to your hips. You have that same mesh in through the hip belt a pretty substantial hip belt for this size pack. You can really cinch. That down to carry the load on your hips. Now again you can remove. If you're just using this as an everyday pack. You don't need this big of a hip belt but. This works really well nice contours in the shoulder straps. And really good padding there so.

Ican see that lasting a long time. Now as far as stability. You have an HDPE frame sheet there keeps the weight down but. It has nice rigidity in the back panel. And then this is a slightly larger pack there's a single aluminum stay there behind the scenes just to give it. More rigidity to transfer. That load down to your hips. This pack does just come in. One size but you can adjust. These shoulder straps with the load lifter straps up here so. You can adjust you can adjust. It up depending on your torso length. This is considered a man's pack it's got a woman's version that's a little bit shorter in the torso but. Ican see this pack working well for a lot of different people overall with. All the features you get here.

This is a great pack for traveling again store. It in Handover then a pack. You can use for lightweight backpacking if you're just going out for the weekend. Or doing an overnight just a multi-use pack that's really durable. And it's going to last a long time it's the Kelty Red Wing 44 you.

With spring upon us the weather around. Most of the country well it's still a bit cold but it's warming up soon. This means those mountain turtles will be calling and. You may be in need of a new backpack to tackle them with the Kelty Red Wing 50 is an entry-level backpack. That may just be the. One for you and we'll tell. All about it my name is Chris. This is gear cache we'll start with a quick tour of the Red Wing 50 weighing in at 3 pounds 13 ounces. This pack features 8 compartments. And 50 litres of storage the pack is constructed with a nylon body. And an internal frame consisting a hard plastic foreign plate with an aluminum stay opening the pack up. You will find a small instruction manual which is nice. This details how to adjust the straps proper care. And cleaning and information on the lifetime warranty. Now the Red Wings main compartment is accessed through a hybrid top. And throw opening panel. This makes it easy to load. And unload the backpack the zippers feel plenty strong.

And include very easy to grab pull strings as well within the main compartment. You will find an internal pocket for a hydration bladder along with the pass-through at the top of the bag for the hose the hydration pocket was given. Some extra padding allowing it to use. It as a lock top pocket as well moving on to the outside of the pack at the very top there is a small pocket. This can fit some travel accessories such as a map compass snacks keys phone. Whatever you want further down the pack there is a stash pocket with no full closure. This is an excellent place to store spare layers of clothing such as a windbreaker. Or pullover securing the hook at the top will ensure. That your letters do not fall out but allow. You easy access to them the stash pocket is integrated with the front. Most pocket this pocket has a.

Few organizational dividers within. It for keeping your stuff nice and neat the largest of these pouches. Even has a soft inner liner making it suitable for a tablet. Or phone moving around to the sides of the pack. We have two mesh water bottle pockets on. Each side and too roughly. One liter size pockets as well. That cover storage but we're not quite done. Yet the Red Wing also features a. Few attachment points to hide away daisy loops on the back allow. You to hang extra gear as well as a series of loops on the bottom of the pack which allow. You to attach bulkier gear. If need be now for larger items the pack does have loops for trekking poles but. You want to soar tent poles. Or fishing poles the side pockets do have a pass through passage behind them so. You can slide these items through there. However keep in mind. These will end up using the water bottle pockets underneath them okay so. We covered a lot then eight pockets ample expansion but. What about comfort well Kelty's perfect fit system has.

That covered as well with. Several adjustable straps an adjustable shoulder height the red wing fits quite nicely. This system is a bit complicated to set up. Iadvise having someone help. You with the initial fit as the number of straps. And adjustment points can get a bit daunting but. Everything is set up the fit of the bag is quite comfortable. And the weight is distributed evenly. It is worth mentioning. That Kelty claims the waist belt to be removable. This is technically true the process is far from simple as the waist belt is integrated into the internal frame of the backpack keep. This in mind you plan to use the pack for airline travel the removal may not be a quick simple task. You can do at the airport before your flight so the red wing is a comfortable fitting pack with plenty of storage options but of course there are.

Some downsides I have to talk about first. And foremost front storage. Neither the hip pads. Or shoulder straps include. Any storage of any kind. This is in my opinion. One of the most important storage options. Iwant to snack I don't want to stop. Everything just in grab a canola bar. You can't access the water bottle pockets easily enough. And with enough practice. You could reach through behind. And grab from that top pocket but. Even just one front storage pocket would have been greatly appreciated the second downside is neck rub. This issue is not going to affect everyone's but. That the shoulder straps came a little close to the neck. It was starting to rub after a little. While but depending on your body type. And clothing choices. This may not affect. All so take that for what it's worth.

And lastly the rubbing has no water protection. Now the bag is nylon so it's going to have. Some natural water resistance but there is no official water rating nor is there. Any included ring cover. You get caught in a rainstorm your gear is going to get wet. This is an entry-level pack but. Some budget ones included rain cover so. It would have been nice to have but. Even with those complaints they're red lien 50 is still a solid choice for a backpack. It has a very good just will fit to make. It nice and comfortable is not going to join your savings. And gives you plenty of storage options overall. This backpack is a great choice for someone looking to get serious about backpacking but still needs to watch their budget well that's. That lets you customize your fit in seconds the single light beam aluminum stay promises great load transfer. And the hex mesh back panel keeps. You from overheating while you're on the move the Redoing 50 is a Kelsey classic they'll become your favorite go-to pack. Whether you're heading into the mountains for an overnight.

Or taking a trip across a pond.

They redesigned this pack actually Kelty actually redesigned their entire series of packs. Or at least most of their backpacking packs as far as. They have not redesigned their military line but. They did redesign this pack the coyote ad the Red Cloud 90 in the Red Cloud 110 so there are a couple new features on. This pack like I said its brand-new. Ijust received this pack today so in full disclosure. Ihave not taken this pack on a hike but. Ihave loaded it up with about 20 to 25 pounds. And sort of worn you know just to get a feel for how the pack fits. Me so starting off with the outside first thing you're in notice obviously is. Ihave the black pack. And the reason I chose the black pack is. Because unfortunately Kelty did away with. Most of the colorations. Ithink were fan favorites so. They had like a sage green. They had a tan it wasn't a coyote brown sort of light tan color. And those two colors my opinion were great all-around colors. They were great for backpacking but. They are also great for sort of blending in to different environments unfortunately on these packs. You know for instance the Red Wing 50 black is really your only option. You want to be low-key the other colors are extremely bright. And actually I believe the coyote 80. And possibly the red clouds don't come in black so. Unless they're going to come out with. More colors unfortunately you're really a out of luck there. If you're looking for something in the subdued color but.

This is the black this is the red wing 50 so the first thing you're going to notice that's a new feature is. They call it a stuff. It pockets on the outside so. You can jam something down in here obviously it's not a completely enclosed pocket but. You can sham it in here. It has like this mesh here on the side to keep. It from falling out. And has compression straps here on the sides also has compression straps here on the bottom as well so looking at the outside still the. One thing I really like about. This path is these side pockets. That are actually pretty substantial there's. Each side so just to give. You an idea these are in here there is a Glock 26 in a crossbreed holster so. This is pretty wide. Imean you're looking at about 8 inches.

Or so there and it's actually able to fit in. This pocket it's a perfect pocket for something you want to get to quick like a fire armor. Whatever you want to put in there which. You can access quickly so the outside pockets are great very nice there is an outside pocket on the front of. This stuff this is an admin pouch. You know to be honest I'm usually not a huge fan of admin pouches especially. If they are too compartmentalized. You really lose a lot of valuable space for instance. Ihave a mystery ranch pack over here. That does not have an admin pouch at. Iwas really glad to see. That actually most of the time. Ifind them useless. Iwas actually able to utilize.

Ihave back here there's just random stuff in here. This is a 3m 8 9 to 3 face masks there's. Some contractor bags so there is a big pouch back here. You can see that's pretty deep. You can fit some stuff in. And then you know there's four others right here. And then you have the main. That goes down here to the bottom there's a composting or. Some other stuff so it's not bad as far as adamant pouches go. And then there is also a lid pocket here. You know you can put stuff in. What you want to get to continuing to look at the outside of the pack so. Another thing that's new on. This pack is what they call the perfect fit suspension so basically the idea behind. You put the pack on. You would dress you put your waist but on. You get your shoulder straps your sternum strap. And then you pull on these gray straps down here. While you're wearing the pack. And it's basically the frame moves. Either up or down depending on your torso it's kind of neat feature but.

You really look at this see. Ican get this to loosen up so. Ican show you okay. That I've got that loosened so basically. What you've got here is. This shoulder strap can only move up. And down within this channel right here. Imean that's at best an inch. And a half, so I'm not really sure. You know granted it's better. Than not having any adjustment at. You know it's not like you're getting an adjustment that's going to fit. Somebody that's five eight to six for the padding is really nice across the back has great ventilation there is a single aluminum stay in here along with a frame sheet which is. Ibelieve the exact same thing the prior model of the Red Wing 50 had. Iwould have liked to see a little bit. More padding down here for your lower back particularly here at the bottom. This frame sheet sort of almost protrudes a little bit at the bottom.

Iwould have liked to see. That padded a little bit. More again I have not taken. This on a hike that's my experience based on wearing the pack for 15 minutes. Icould tell it would have fit better. And felt better if there had been a little bit. More padding down here at the bottom the waist belts adequate it's not reinforced so. You can see it's but again for a pack. This size there's a reason it's not bringing for snart's. You know it's not designed to carry 75 pounds so. Ithink the waist belt is plenty adequate. And again one thing I really like about the Kelty waist back waist belts. This is Kelly's obviously not the only brand doing this but. You actually can pull the straps in. This was sort of across your body to tighten the waist belt as opposed to having to pull them to the outside of your body. Some high impacts like the mystery ranch. Ihave back here it does not have. That feature so that's really nice. That the Kelty has you know as far as the outside of the pack that's really.

It there is some webbing down here. You could strap a ten. Or a bedroll on to so moving to the inside of the pack it's a panel load which is really nice it's very easy to access you've got. Some nice zipper pulls on here so as. You can see it doesn't completely clamshell open but. It opens you know 80% of the way. And maybe it's a good thing. That doesn't completely clamshell. You know you want to hang. This from a tree something from the grab handle. It has here the clam shells open everything's going to fall out so. It opens you know far enough definitely I'm not displeased with. It allows you great access to the inside of the pack so.

Ijust got some stuff thrown in here just to packed. It out as far as inside pockets. You do have sort of like a water bladder. You can also use it as a laptop sleeve there are hooks here so. You can hang your water bladder other. That there are no interior pockets on. What we know which is fine. You know use different ways to organize my gear. These are made by Cr afar. These are really lightweight. And a great way to keep yourself organized inside your pack so other. That there are no interior pockets. Ihave a big med kit stuff down here in the bottom. One thing I will say is. These pockets on the bottom so. You know most companies so. They put like an elastic pocket here. And it's for a water bottle. Whatever a lot of people on these Kelty packs. You can put the butt of a rifle like maybe a Ruger 10/22 down here. You could fit that rifle through the underside of. This pocket so you can run the rifle through here.

You can use you know hiking poles. Whatever you want to put in here but for a water bottle. These are literally completely useless. Ihave a bottle here. This is a taller bottle. Another regular size bottle somewhere here. Icould show you exactly. What I mean that they're useless regular size water so. This in here I mean quite honestly. Ireally wouldn't feel comfortable. That's not going to fall out it's just really a terrible pocket for a water bottle. They really couldn't make. It much taller because the problem is. You do you're going to run into your compression strap here but. Imean the problem too is it's too wide. And that's what gives. This sort of free-floating design which would make. Me think this could very easily fall out but pocket sorta has to be wide enough. If you're going to put the stock of a rifle in here as far as the construction of.

Imean I'm not going to go into super detail here about the material. You can read that on Kelly's website the construction seems. You know seems fine the zippers. Ibelieve YKK that's. What the zippers on the old Red Wing were. Ihaven't actually yeah. They are YKK but I mean we're talking about construction there is absolutely no comparison between. This pack and the mystery ranch pack. Imean the zippers on the mystery ranch pack on the interior pockets are bigger. Than the ones on the exterior on. Imean there's there's absolutely no comparison again. That pack is than twice as much as. This pack right this pack is 139 dollars. It just came out I'd imagine. That you're going to be able to get. It for 2030 dollars cheaper.

And a relatively short amount of time after it's been on the market for a. Few months that pack was over $300 so there really is no comparison. You need a zipper that robust probably not so. You know I'd say it's almost a moot point but. It is worth mentioning because. Iknow a lot of people are really interested in. That stuff they're interested in. You know how much can. You beat these packs up. Ithink it's a good pack like. Iwasn't crazy about the way. Me especially in the lower back area, so I'm really not sure I'm going to keep. This but construction wise. You know I can't imagine. This would be a downgrade from the previous version. Although that does happen from time to time the previous version is as highly regarded the entire line of Kelty packs is the coyote. Both the Red Cloud's. And the Red Wing 50 are really revered packs especially for the price. None fancy did a great video on the previous line of these. He actually even specifically mentioned the coloration.

How great the coloration was on the old packs were at the time the current packs. And unfortunately Kelty for some reason decided to take very wild. And bright colors except for the black like. Ireally hope they come out with at least the black for the coyote. And the Red Cloud's otherwise unfortunately. Ithink they've really limited their market on those packs. Because the colors are just way too bright for someone to use that's looking for whatever. You want to call a gray man approach which should get home bag. Whatever they're they're just too bright for. Ithink that's going to turn a lot of people off so hopefully. They have more colors. They plan on rolling out so.

Ihope the review was helpful like. Isaid on something like. Iwanted to get the review out right away. Because there are really no as far as. This is the first video of. This pack so hopefully. You know you got a chance to sort of see the pack understand. Some pros and cons of it.

oh yeah eyes welcome to. Another video in today's video. Iwant to do a review / a preview on the Kelty Red Wing 50 as. You can see I'm wearing it. And a couple preliminary things. Ilike about it is it's really budget it's a really high value so for like an outdoor all-around backpack. You can get like JanSport backpacks for like 30 bucks. You can hike with those but. This one's I think was like 70 bucks so the. One we're going to be looking at today is. They call it the 2013 version. And in like 2016 they did make an updated newer version with a couple upgrades which. Ithought were kind of like superfluous unneeded. And a good excuse for them to add 40 50 bucks to the cost the backpack. Idon't know if they're still making this version but I'm sure. You get the newer version. Most of what I'm gonna say in the video will be similar so before taking off as. You can see I'm about six foot two. And a half with a long torso. And today we're just on a day hike. And as you'll see I'm gonna show. What I have in here. Ihave barely anything in. It but the main thing I like especially.

If you're tall you just have a long torso is for kind of day pack type backpack um. This is 26 inches versus like a normal day pack is like 2021 so. It really spreads kind of the weight. It fits taller people a lot better but the Redwings. They also have various sizes so. Ishouldn't have worn a black shirt. It might be hard to see. This stuff but it has a waist belt down here which. It has just kind of the reversed pulley type system. Ihave a 34-inch waist. And I'm almost all the way cinched down so that's. Something to keep in mind. You can get small/medium. And medium/large so. You might run into like an issue there, but they'll expand out really easy the other thing to notice too is. All the nylon on here the webbing is like actual on cheap backpacks. It will be polypropylene.

And a lot of people mistake. It for nylon but this is actual nylon the reverse system. And then right here. It has three daisy chains. Or moly strip so you could put a water bottle. Or hang gloves or put a camera pouch the inside of the waistband it's roughly about five eighths inches thick so it's not overly padded but for the application it's really nice the sternum strap up here is your standard beer which. Idon't use the sternum strap but it's really standard just slides up. And down it pretty much just. You know pulls the straps together. You have if the straps like to roll off. You know everybody's different. If they like to roll off that's issue so. This part I'm going to take. It off there's a couple. More features I don't want to show. You okay so this is the rest of the suspension. And it's pretty standard I'm not going to talk about. You know all the details. It just has the padded mesh.

This aluminum stay it's a 7075 aluminum stay well which. Some people might believe in to be better but. You know for this application with like modern technology. One stay it pretties many does the same thing as two. Unless you're carrying over like 70. Or 80 pounds it gives the pack a little bit. More flexibility that way. It has a load lifter straps up here which as well. You kind of use to adjust. Where the waistband hits. This isn't specific just. This backpack, so I'll skip over but the standard step the grab handle so moving to the front I'll just run through the pockets roll really quick like. Idon't have this fully maxed out it's a 50 liter. And right I probably have. It at 20 percent capacity so. You can load it really fulls.

Any will expand way out so. You could imagine it gets a lot bigger. If needed so the first thing is two water bottles on the outside pocket. These are big enough. You can put trekking poles. Or a rifle um down there. You have these side pockets which I'll just speak on. One side because it's mirrored on the other but. You can slip your hand. You can see my hand there. You can put trekking poles. Or a rifle or fly fit there a fishing pole I've seen a lot of a lot of different things put down there so on. This pocket these are about a litre. And a half or, so I'll roll in the dimensions but. This is a ah so this right here it's just a medical kit. And it's really bulky but it's really lightweight.

You know people here in. This pocket I just have. This in its just parachute line really thin bright color. This is a selfie stick so. Ican take all my selfies. And then this is a silky gone boy which. Ijust threw in here cuz it's spring right. Now so a couple trails. That we've walked down there're like trees. That I've fallen down so. II threw this in just so. We could walk around them. Icould just cut them into a couple pieces to help people who were to kind of. This top pocket like a so. This top pocket here a pair of steiner of binoculars. And a mango and an avocado yeah so the main compartment is really spacious so in the bottom. Idid a video on this but. This is the SD survival kit so. That in the very bottom. These are two more Nalgene canteens Oasis canteens there's a line up here which.

This can actually hang to water bladders. We don't really like water bladders. It makes the water taste funny. And they're just sort of convenient but starting out at the same time. We just like hard sided water bottles so. We have two more canteens. And then which I hung on here the only reason is not so much weight distribution it's just easier to get to them here as opposed to having to dig to the bottom in. This pouch here again it's designed to put the water bladder. You might be able to fit a laptop but it's not padded. This is my outdoor fro C jacket. And the girlfriend's wearing hers but hers was pulled. And just stuffed right on top of. And that's all that's in the main compartment but as. You can see as you can see. Where the bulk of your space is going to come from, so we're. We can fill a lot more stuff in here. This is the last pouch. Or the last pocket here. What we haven't it doesn't matter. That much foot this was kind of like a catch-all.

And it's the easiest pocket to get to so. If you're loading this really light. Most likely you're going to load. This with all your stuff. You want to get too easily. And then the main compartment with things. You probably won't need so like. Some stuff like she threw. This in there it's to hold a phone like a running band. This is just a camera case with a GoPro in. These are self-explanatory. This is a pocket chainsaw which. We might do a video on like a GoPro case just a protein bar. Some athletic tape some pyrrole. And those gels Ellison gel squares for blisters yeah for host booster care. Whatever you want to call. It so as you can see. This is a pretty standard like madman type section that's coming on a lot of backpacks okay so closing thoughts pros. And cons and should. This backpack or not the first thing the pros. Iwould say it's let's call. It the world's most versatile backpack.

And then it can be used for hiking it can be used for overnight camping it can be used as a carry-on. It can be used for many times. We go plant an airplane. You take is a carry-on so. You don't have the check baggage. If you're trying to run around an airport using this as opposed to a duffel bag. It is within carry-on specs. Idon't know what the term would be but. You work on the railroad. Or somewhere you don't really need like a lot of clothes. And stuff almost like a quick hotel overnight type bag. You do business overnight trips. And stuff like it can be used. Both as an outdoor pack but it's also well suited for travel. Iknow a lot of people use. This travel abroad just. It's easier to like walk around a foreign city. You know with a backpack instead of trying to roll a suitcase. Some strapped so that's the biggest pro the second. One is its super high value like. This is the older version but. Even the newer version. Ibelieves like 130. One for about $70 that was on sale.

You paid a full retail it's still a really. You can buy more expensive packs with a lot less features so a super high value super versatile the other thing is it's really durable. Some people might not like. This pack because it's not made out of a thick like Cordura nylon. And it's a thinner but to. Me that's kind of advantage. You save a lot of weight. You save a lot of bulk. And it's just as durable. Another pro is it's really lightweight so. One it's like three. And a half pounds the newer version. They added a lot of extraneous weights but still that's. Ithink right around four pounds. And a half pounds the comfort ability is really surprising and.

It could be just this is a longer backpack. And right I only have about 15 20 pounds in. Irealize it's there but it's not painful. Or burdensome anything like. That I'm trying to think of the other cons there's not. Idon't think I've mentioned a con. That people talk about is the side pocket here. You have this loaded up. This perfect example here people complain. They want their water ball like tuck behind but the case could be made. That it's the water bottle secure in there. And doing this it's actually easier to get to, so I've read other people's reviews. And I'm trying not to copy their cons that's just. That ice I've seen and can't really think of. Any other ones but for me personally there's not really. Any cons to this backpack. Imentioned all the pearls so to end the video.

You should buy this pack like. You already have a big collection of different backpacks. This backpack probably won't do. Anything that those don't but. If you're just starting out. You just you don't have a lot of space. You just want one backpack to handle out a lot of tasks. This is kind of jack of. All trades master of. None so it's not the best hiking backpack. Or traveling backpack but. It handles all those rolls really good. One in particular which is the large. Or the 50 liter I would say is. More suited for people over six foot tall. Or maybe 510 511 just because of the length. And the torso adjustment so hope. You guys like this video. You can go back to my home page we'll also my current videos. Everyone this is David with David's past calm coming to. You with a review of the Kelty Red Wing 50 multi-day pack just. Some specs on the bag is 24 inches tall it's 15 inches wide. And it's 12 inches deep. It holds 3000 cubic inches. Or 49 liters they just rounded. It up to 50 it has a fixed suspension. It weighs 3 pounds 3 ounces. Or 14 kilograms its torso ranges for those. That are 14 and a half. You know to 18 and a half inches. Or 37 to 47 centimeters. These specs you can read right on the website the waist belt range actually goes from 28 to 46 inches which is really nice. If you're a bigger person. You want kind of smaller bag for just um. You know doing any mountaineering or. And they're just doing some short. You know that's 3/4 day huh three four day hikes on the material of the bag is actually a 420 D polyester bale shadow just the material. That it's made of it's also has. Some polyester oxford a 450 D polyester oxford reinforcement fabric. And purchases pack a.

Few months ago and I've used. It for a few things. Ithought what I would do is do. It a little review and just give. You a really up-close. This overview of the pack itself. Some things it can do alright so first of. All just kind of starting from the back. And working around the outside. It does have one aluminum stay. That goes down through the center of the back end. That is removable you can actually remove. It from the inside I'll show. How to do that in a little bit. It does have these sternum straps just kind of lock in like. They are adjustable along. These little rails here on. Both sides so you can adjust. Where the sternum straps. You know goes across your sternum. These adjustable clips on the shoulders.

You know just like any other pack. These waist straps that adjust toward. Most backpacking packs. Iguess have this but. Ijust appreciate this is the fact. Ican pull you know. Ican pull and cinch up my waist belt really easily. That connects to an. Even thicker you know waist strap. You can also pull relatively easily in. Another clip here these clips are surprisingly sturdy. You initially look at them. They don't look like. They have a lot of meat to them, but they're actually quite sturdy. This thing up actually had. One of my students use. This pack for a week-long trip. It helped up surprisingly well.

One thing you can do. You don't need the waist strap for some reason. You can actually take. And to do you can go. And under here it's actually behind the belt. And it's actually just velcro. It in there it's actually just velcro. It in there and actually just sort of fill. That out and take the belt off entirely in order to take the belt off. You do need to loosen up. These straps though take those out. Another thing that's really nice and again just kind of standard thing on. Most backpacking packs is. It does have these adjustable shoulder straps in terms of. You know how tight the top of the bag seats against your back. And it's really easy to adjust. You have the pack on. You can just reach up. And grab and pull them tight kind of looking along the side here. It does have these zipper pockets on. Both sides that open up.

And offer quite a bit of room. You can actually fit a large water bottle. Whatever in there but. Even be behind those pockets is a pocket. You can reach down in. And then you have a mesh pocket with an elastic band of hominid an elastic band on. This actually expands quite a bit that's actually a really big mesh pocket really handy pocket. One of the sites here. It also does have these places for the compression straps to strap up. And the compression straps right there. And just sort of clip. It in here and then compress. You need to what's kind of near about. These side pockets is. They are you know they're they're closed by default. It does have a bit of velcro here. You could see or not there's a bit of velcro right here.

That pocket then opens up. And becomes the through pocket. That is great for trekking poles an axe. Whatever on the top really nice sturdy handle that's real nice. Another side of the pack. You have the Redoing 50 logo same pocket with the zipper. And then also this pocket as well has a Velcro closure on the bottom so. You have the option of keeping this pocket closed. Or open the other side also has. One of those mesh bags with a tagged. You need to clip something else onto there with a carabiner along the bottom what's really neat is. All of these little loops okay similar to like. You would a lot of a lot of the tactical gear military-style gear. You have out there these are really handy for like tying on a bedroll. You know putting a tent on the bottom. You need to its kind of lash. It through those it's really handy for. That on the outside here. It does have a few different pocket options first of. All has a nice sturdy handle of.

This handles really. It feels really stout. You know just real stout handle. And then it also has two loops next to the handle. You can again clip something on there. You want it has a zipper pocket right here. If a popular just sort of little accessory bag. That can go on the outside. You put things like your first-aid kit. Something you know things. You need to get to you might need to get too quickly. All right on to the next front pocket love. This thing it's got so. Many pockets one of the neat things. Ilike about this pocket it's got. These aluminum poles right here. These are in order to pull. Me knows zipper pulls I'm really gonna pull the zipper open the zippers are really nice good quality zippers. Ireally like that about healthy telephone. That pocket opens up to reveal just sort of accessory pocket really. This pocket has all kinds of little places to tie stuff — you've got Clips there for maybe car keys you've got a pig big pocket right there.

You can shove stuff down. And a little velcro tab right there. You get up one two three four pockets. And then you start having some of these little smaller pockets okay on like. You want to put you know wallet. Whatever this with like a toothbrush pocket just sort of skinny pocket there. Another pocket right there on the flap itself. It has actually two kinds of pockets kind of sort of. Idon't know how to explain. It other this but you've got a zipper pocket right here. This is sort of small pocket for accessories. Or for you know toiletries. Whatever but then underneath. You also have a pocket kind of like a map kind of like a map pocket would be finally onto the pig line. What I really like about. This pack on the inside is. These really beefy zippers. Imean they're not just your standard zipper they're a big tough beefy zipper. And again has these aluminum pull tabs on these strings open. And there is your main compartment 50 liters of a lot of space.

This compartment you've got a. More compartments you have an elastic. You know compartment right there inside of here is a sort of hard plastic I'm gonna call. It a stay but it's just sort of form in order to give it. Some rigidity you have a clip here. You need to hook some keys to also a loop. You can hook stuff to. One of those hooks you know in case. You have something else. You want to hook till you've got two of those then. You have flip this back a little bit. You have this little spot of velcro okay. This really I think is mostly to hold. This plastic plate in here but. Ipulled it open okay. Ican actually take. This plastic thing out. You know you could. You could use you could just sit. You wanted to have a seat. Something to sit on. And get your you know but off the dirty ground. You can actually take. That out and sit down on.

It's meant for the form. You don't want to be gonna be careful not to jack. It up too much that does offer. Some support for your back in here but it's there. And that's you take. That out finally I showed. You earlier this little aluminum stay okay. They call this our dynamic airflow system basically. What happens is the way the stay is formed. It keeps the pack off of your spinal column. This mesh in here in. These little channels. That allows is allows. More airflow to kind of come up behind your back. That is really nice for is keeping your back dry dryer. Ishould say if you're hiking and. It gets hot your back is gonna get sweaty but having a little bit of airflow in here.

And having you know just. Some added you know along your back is gonna help keep your back dryer. Ishould say but you can take. This aluminum stay out. It is again you just go back to. This main compartment. That black shield with. And here's a very super tab. You can go ahead and take. That stay out that's. What it looks like now it's pretty much just a. You know loose bag why would. Iwant to take the stay out well reason. Ibought this pack was. Because my wife I went to Colorado to do. Some hiking and I wanted a pack. Icould use as a carry-on on an airplane. You look at the TSA regulations in terms of. You look at your airline regulations in terms of a bonafide carry-on bag you're gonna notice. Ithink at least with Delta the max height is 22 inches. And you're saying well that's 24 inches. It is 24 inches try to believe.

Me I've tried every which way to make. This 22 inches but by taking out. This stay I'm able to get. It down to 22 inches. All honesty one flight. Ihad to gate check. Because there was too. Because the flight was falling too. Many people had there been large carry ons already in the storage bins so. Though it's 24 inches. Idoubt you're gonna get checked for it don't quote. You know I can't guarantee. That obviously but I've been on two flights with. Neither time did they questioned. That was gonna fit in the overhead compartment so reason why I bought. Iwanted a pack I could carry with. Me through the airport but then as well. Ilanded on the ground. Icould take this with. Some day hikes and it's. It was marvelous for. That very purpose but. If for some reason you are concerned about going over. That 22 inches you can actually take. That stay out you know compress. You get the whole thing packed up the way. You want you have a couple of confession straps here.

That are really I think designed quite well. They really hugs the in the contents of the pack against your body. And gets the weight distributed. It needs to go and there's. One right there for the top. One of the bottom I already showed. It just kind of goes on their like. You just pull it to cinch. You can see the way. These tabs are kind of sewn on. What really does is. It kind of hugs it up into your back so. That the weight is put. It needs to be holding the other feature. Idon't think I mentioned earlier is. It does have these little loops on. Both sides again just an extra place to clip. Something what I do is. Istick my trekking poles in there. And then and then compress them in like. If I'm not quite on the trail. Ithink my trekking pole shove in there.

Iwill say I had a student a freshman in high school used. And was able to use. It for a week-long backpacking trip. It served them well. That it's fully capable of a week-long trip. Iwouldn't probably. This wouldn't probably be my go-to bag for like wintertime just. Because in wintertime. You know more bulky clothes. And things like that but. This perfect summer pack again it's perfect for somebody I'm six foot. One it's a little bit on the short side for me for long trips but for day hikes for three day hikes no problem that's the Kelty Redoing 50 really really great bag to really like. It for what it is useful for so. That is the Kelty red 150. And just a great pack for a multi-day hike. You know that sort of thing if. You would like to support. Me by purchasing one of these. A classic in the kelty line up the red wing 50 is a great hauler for urban or. Backcountry adventures with a variety of organizational features and a comfortable carry this pack is designed to do it all let's take a look at its features first i want to take the pack turn it around and look at the suspension system so kelty is implementing their perfect fit suspension system on the red wing 50 it's a highly adjustable system that's going to allow for multiple different sized torsos to fit comfortably into the. Pack you can actually make all your adjustments while you're wearing the pack so if you loosen everything up put the pack on and then make your adjustments you can ensure that you're getting the perfect fit with that highly adjustable suspension system we've got a really nice dynamic airflow back panel. So you've got really broad spaced mesh with really comfortable padding here a single aluminum stay provides support. And stability and a hdpe frame sheet adds to that structure we do have a nice. Padded hip belt as well give you some. Extra comfort and support around the hips and that is removable so if you. Don't want to use that or if you're going on just a really lightweight adventure and you don't need it you can take that off and leave it at home so really nice features on the suspension. Side of the red wing 50 turning the pack. Back around we'll take a look at the access to the red wing 50 so the access. To this pack is unique it's kind of hybrid loading system so you've got. Kind of panel loading or a total kind. Of luggage opening for the pack so on. The top here we've got kind of u-shaped zipper so open that up and you. Can access the contents just by opening. That top flat if this is not quite enough for you can actually extend the opening all the way down the pack to. Access it just like a piece of luggage and that goes around both sides so you can really open that flap all the way to get easy access to all the contents of your pack really nice feature here allows you to get into things without having to dump everything out it's a really cool system there that's not something I've seen on a lot of other packs so unique very cool and. Like i said if you don't want to use that whole zipper you don't have to you can just use this top flat to get in and out of the pack so excellent features. They're really cool hybrid zipper on the. Kelty we do have a lot of other pockets. On this pack that allow for a really good organization so on the front here we've kind of got a stash pocket so. There's a little buckle that either connects or disconnects to allow for. Access to this stash pocket really nice you can throw an extra hoodie in there an extra layer or two maybe some other gear if you choose to it'll stay secure with this mesh on the sides so you can. Ensure that it's not going to fall out on you on top of that we do have a front. Organizer pocket so that has some good. Place for some journals pens pencils if you're traveling you can store your travel necessities there to have quick and easy access to so a nice pocket on. The front another u-shaped zipper there on the top. On that kind of hood ish portion we've. Got a nice organizer pocket as well so single zipper just going to access really easy pocket there for small items maps travel necessities extra snacks if. You're out on the trail but a really nice top pocket on the backpack there on. Either side we've got two larger pockets. So if you're on the trail and you need your water filter your first-aid kit maybe a stove you've got a really nice. Pocket there to store that gear in pretty sizable so you can definitely fit some larger items in there if you need to we've also got lower stretch water. Bottle pockets or just your pockets if you want to use those for accessory gear and that's on either side of the pack a really neat feature behind this pocket. There's actually a really cool pass-through so you can actually store gear through that pocket whether it's trekking poles tent poles or something. Along those lines you can store those behind that pocket tuck them into the stretchy pocket and have a really cool little access point there while keeping them nice and secure, so they're not going to go falling away on a few other features that we have on the. Red wing 50 include a hideaway daisy. Chain and hall handle so on the front here we've got kind of this double flat. System you've got daisy chain attachment points there and if you open up that top. One there's a nice durable haul handle that's very highly reinforced so it's going to be very strong and durable so really nice additional lash points on the front of the pack we do have some tool loops or ice axe loops so you can. Definitely stow your tools there if you're out and you need that extra storage on the outside we've got some. Compression straps as well so on either side you've got top and bottom compression so it's going to allow you to cinch down the pack there make sure that the load is not shifting on you without you wanting it to and on the inside we do have a hydration sleeve and. That also doubles as a laptop sleeve so. If you're using this in the back country you've got your hydration at the ready if you're traveling or if you're in an urban environment you can use that for your laptop and have comfortable and safe storage for your electronics so really nice organizational features a. Very comfortable back panel on the redwing 50 and an innovative and unique opening provide really good structure really good support and just overall versatility it's the kelty red wing 50. You.

Hey guys this is Jason from my 10 feet. And today I'm going to review my new backpack with. You well actually is not. That new I've been using this backpack for the last four. Or five months I already want to live like seven. Or eight different countries with. And Samantha I we've been using it. And it's a great product in. Ithink the four or five months of use actually continuously used actually. This is my house right. Everything I own is in here will give. Me enough knowledge do. You know to give you know a best a good review okay so let's start with the brand it's a High Sierra actually my previous backpack was a High Sierra. Istill have this brand it's a really good brand. Something different. One of those huge backpacks. You know like the 50 60 leaders so. You sometimes know your shoulders get tired so. Iwas like okay let's go. Something else you know. You know whenever you have like those big ones. You want to like take. Something that is in the middle of the backpack. You have to take everything away so it's freaking messy. You know like you have to like take. Everything out and then put. It back in but with. This back but you just have to open. And there we go that's. It so the first attribute of. This backpack is it a carry-on size so. You can bring it with. And then whenever you go to an airplane, so I'm gonna be put in a list of. All the airplane models. Ihave used for the last three months so. You guys will see on which one's fits very good. And other ones we have to like take.

And the front is out but. Iwill give all the information ok so first the beauty about. This backpack is well like. Isaid it's a carry-on backpack so. You can see the sizes are perfect for carry-on but. This top part you can actually remove. This part and I'm telling you right. Now the backpack is full so. Ididn't want to like make a review without. Nothing inside so we just arrived here yesterday so. Ihave an impact I wanted to give. You know like a full backpack reveal okay so let. Me just move the camera a little bit so. You guys can see what I'm doing okay so here. Ican take this front part away. They have a zipper right here. You can take it out so your backpack automatically converts into a day backpack. You can see you can take. This out and then you can just carry. It carries on Isis the election is very comfortable.

And you'll be amazed of. All the stuff you can fit in on my last events I've been using it, so I've been carrying my laptop inside is a 15 inches laptop. If it's perfectly actually. Ican feel like a bigger. All the cables I already. Iput always my rain jacket so as. You actually I'm gonna open. You guys can see I have a lot of a lot of crap inside right. And it's all my cables mouse actually. Some medicines. Ialways carry with. Me just in case and then in the front pocket see. Igot my sunblock I have my waterproof cover. And then you can have like pans here. You can put your cell phone. You can put like all your work stuff here then on the sides. You can put like bottle waters like. These ones see it fits perfectly so. You can actually have two so that's a really good thing so. You can have liked you know like. You carry on then for your day fact. You can use you don't have to carry. One then with the backpack itself. That brought this out. You can have a right here.

You can feel like you don't know. Anything you want and here on the top. You have the handle so. You can pretty much just carry. Whatever you want if you're in the airport. If you're on the streets. You can just carry you know yeah I'd be using it actually. All over New York carried. And the wheels work perfectly. Whenever you're in the airport are not noisy at. All they're very smooth. And very stable the handle is a case made by aluminum. And so far I've been using it like. You know super long. You know the handle. He hasn't broken yet, so I've been ain't no gonna broke it's very stable. You know the materials. All good so as you can see. You just take out in an hour desk. You can have you can just close. This zipper so you hide the handle then. These are the wheels right here I've been using them for like. Isaid for months like almost every day. They still look very good.

They haven't get stuck. They still roll like very good so no problem. Iwill show more pictures on. And the post so you guys can see like. More details and then. Another great feature about. This backpack is this just look so. You can just take this down. And then you just put. This here you just tie. It up here it has like a Velcro. He doesn't like a Velcro thing so just put. It right here you go quick. And then you'd have. Another backpack here so pretty much. You are in a place where is very hard to roll your backpack. You can just like you know like open. And carry on as you can see so. It works very well and of course. You can wear whenever. You have like the outside part too so that's a great feature of.

This backpack because pretty much. You can have like a three backpacks in. You have like the day backpack. One right here then. You have the rolling backpack. When everybody's look just like. They hang out and then. You can just wear that's a big. You like a lot of options like the other day. We were into a ferry. You know close to the ocean. We were just making the line. It was impossible to roll. It was a lot of scent so it's perfectly just take. This out you just you know. You just wear on your back. You know like a normal backpack so it's very good. This space inside I'm gonna just take the camera. You know as you guys can see. This secure things right here. These lots so in case. You have a lot of stuff it's not gonna break open. And I'm telling you it's very messy okay so.

This is a few of the clothes. We got actually we fit around 20 pieces of clothes here. You have this stripes here. You can just like tight. You have a lot of clothes but. You mean as you guys can see. You can fit a lot of stuff here. You will be able to carry. It on an airplane so. You don't have to pay for it check back. You don't have to deal. You know with the earnings loosing your bags so. This is a great item. Ihighly recommended for travelers. You can use it for different purposes like. You know like we are always traveling so the item was perfect. Ihave use several times so. If you're looking for a new backpack. Irecommend you to use. One it's very good the price is good. Ican tell you the qualities is its perfect. Imean it's not like no like. II have it just for four.

The Alps Mountaineer mountaineering redtail 4900 talking about in the podcast as a front pocket we're actually talking back as a sleeping bag stuff area so. You can let leave off the stuff sack have two nylon tops is on the side for holding water bottles. It has various almost too. Many tension straps adjusting straps the top is very interesting it as. Iwas mentioning it not only does. It strapped to the top but. It turns into a big kangaroo pouch in the inside there are it's a full belt strap so. You can use it as a fanny pack. That just pretty well. Once again it has very well-designed very well thought of the inside has double closing straps shall. And so keep water out. And keep everything in. You can please it is pretty big on the inside be back as full padded back. And have pretty fit lots of tensions lots of straps in the front. This really is not a.

What I would call a very light. Imean it's not one of the lightest ones will ever see out there so don't think about. If you're an ultralight backpacker has a really cool port here on the side for you to put your hydration pack on the inside again there's a little slot here for your hydration pack so. You can put the bladder right in there. And then the tube comes out. That side very well thought of very well-designed been always a very big fan of Alps mountaineering I think they're. One of the more unfortunately underrated maybe. They don't advertise tremendous amount but. This backpack is available. You can go to scout direct calm.

They run specials every. Once in a while so. This is the Alps mountaineering redtail 4900.

The top-of-the-line mountaineering and Alpine expedition pack from Gregory the Denali 75 has a load of Mountain friendly features a heavy-duty suspension system. And an overall design. That caters to those serious alpine adventurers the Denali 75 carries weight so well. Because it's equipped with Gregory's fusion flex pro system. This grants load support. And stability through two aluminum stays an anti barreling horizontal stay. And an integrated frame sheet the back panel is built of molded evie a foam. And the harness automatically flexes to move with the user the pre curved hip belt is designed to move with. And conform to the shape of the user the aluminum stays. And the lid of this pack can be completely removed for even. More minimalist lightweight carry loads of features line. This pack including a dual layer laminated front panel for crampons ice tools. Or snow shoes the compression straps can help cinch down a smaller load. And also double as ski. Or snowboard lash straps there's a removable bivy pad for alpine. Or mountaineering use. And there are attachments on the belt to use with a mountaineering sled let's take a.

More in-depth look at the Gregory — Natalie 75 the pack is constructed with two 10 D. And 420 D nylon ripstop fabrics so. It is still a lightweight fabric but. It is very durable and abrasion resistant the bottom. However is reinforced with a six thirty high density nylon so. You get really heavy reinforcement on the bottom of the pack so. It down pick it up set. It down again and again it's really going to help. That to hold up over time. This pack has a really nice beefy suspension system. And that's how it's going to maintain comfort with a heavy load it's using Gregory's Fusion flex Pro suspension system. It is a very fully featured suspension system we've got two aluminum vertical stays from the top. That bring the load. All the way down into the hips there is a horizontal anti barrel stay in there so. That to stabilize the load.

And there is an integrated frame sheet so that's also going to help to stabilize. That weight the back panel here is a molded EBA back panel. It is very thick very well padded. You can see that there's no real mesh here. Anything like that's designed for those snowy adventures so snow has nowhere to build up. Or kind of get caked into you've got a really smooth panel it'll help to shed. That snow that ice the harness is an auto-adjust harness so. Each shoulder strap will adjust individually so it'll automatically adjust to the user it'll work with the user. And it'll move with the user so it'll provide a really good amount of comfort throughout a long hard hike the hip belt is an auto can't hip belt as well so. It is individually flexible it'll move with the user again it'll still transfer. That load to the hips comfortably but it'll allow for a lot of movement a lot of mobility.

And flex with that hip belt. It is pre curved it is a unisex pack so. It is designed to fit a wide range of different users. Some neat features about. That suspension system those two aluminum stays can actually be completely removed so. You have a lighter load. You don't need that extra support. You can take those stays out. You can leave them at home there's also a removable bivy pad inside the back panel of. This pack so in the main pack body there's a sleeve. That bivy pad rests there. It acts as an extra padding for the back panel here but. You can simply take. That out you don't need. That bivy pad as a knee pad. Or just to sit on when you're in the mountains so. Some extra convenience in. That aspect there are a number of features right on the hip belt with. This pack that make.

It really great for those mountaineering expeditions you've got a small hip belt pocket that's great for some emergency items. You need it but on the right side here we've got a gear loop that's a great place to clip. Some extra carbines. Some ice tools you need. Some emergency cord. And there's also a slot in. That hip belt for an ice tool holder so a little ice clip carabiner. You can slide that right in there have your ice screws ready at the ready for when. You need them there's as well. Some loops at the backside of the hip belt. That are going to allow. You to attach a mountaineering sled so for those really big expeditions. You can easily attach a sled to.

This pack comfortably so. It rests right around the hips so. It doesn't add any unnecessary pressure I'm going to turn the pack back around. And take a look at how. We access all the contents so. This is a top loading pack the main access point for the pack is through the top. You have a really spacious lid on the pack. You do have some additional storage on. That lid but you don't need the lid. You can take and leave. It at home it's really easy to do. That you've got two buckles on the front you've got two buckles on the back. You do have an additional strap on the back as well. That will let you simply take the hood off. And leave it at home. You need to there are two pockets in. That lid you want to use them but otherwise. You don't need you don't want. It the pack is accessed through a large top collar you've actually got two collars on the pack so you've got the main color here. And then you've got an extendable spin drift collar above. That so it'll actually allow.

You to over stuff the pack. You need to get that full capacity so it's really convenient. It adds a lot of extra space. And a lot of extra organization. You choose to use it there's also a side entry point on the pack so on. One of the sides of the pack. You have a large vertical zipper. That will allow you to get into the side of the pack quickly. And easily to access. Some of those middle contents. You need them there's no bottom access on. This pack so there's no sleeping bag compartment on the pack. That allows for a lot of extra durability. It keeps a lot more streamlined down low so keep. That in mind with the Denali 75. Some other features. That make this pack ski. Or mountaineering specific the front panel here is heavily reinforced so. You can lash some snowshoes to the front.

Some crampons that material is very abrasion resistant. It can certainly hold up to those items. We have a slot down low for some ice axes. You choose to use those there. And you've got gear loops as well. And velcro Luc's to tie those off right at the top of the pack we've got upper. And lower compression. And those compression straps can extend around the front of the pack to act as ski. Or snowboard lash straps so it's really easy to bring those straps around the front of the pack to lash down. Some of those items. We also have dual bottle holders. Or gear pockets on either side so at the bottom right under. That bottom compression strap there's an extended pocket. You can store water bottle there. You choose to some additional gear those pockets are fairly large. And on the side instead of having another access point we've got a small pocket that's a great place for small maps. Some emergency items things. You just want have quick access to on the outside of the pack finally for some additional gear lashing you have a lot of options on the front you've got a ton of loops here to lash.

Some additional gear. You need to you've got a couple loops down at the bottom of the pack to attach. Some extra gear and on the shoulder straps as well there are. Some extra daisy chains so. You can certainly lash. More gear there you choose to. It is a hydration compatible pack there is a hydration sleeve inside but a reservoir is not included so. You would have to purchase. That separately there's a sleeve on the inside. You can hang and there is a port on the back here. That tube can come out keep in mind. If you're using it for serious alpine use. You might want to have an insulated tube those would be sold separately as well overall it's super heavy-duty it's really rugged holds a lot of weight comfortably.
