Hey it's darwin i wanted to do a little. Product review of a new hiking shoe that. I've been trying out lately as some of. You might know I'm a huge meryl moab fan. I've been hiking in for years i went. Through three pairs on the appalachian trail this year and got a lot of people. To convert over to them but i figured I'd try a little something different since I've been in those for so long and i chose to try out the salomon x altra. This is Solomon's actual hiking shoe. They're really known for their trail runners but this guy is geared solely. For hiking so they kind of beat it up a. Little bit looks very similar to their trail runner especially with the quick lace in here i really like this system. All the years that i didn't triathlon i was used to the quick laces so it's really cool to see a hiking shoe with the same thing so let's get into the. Shoe first of all this shoe comes in at. 32 ounces on my scale now i wear an. Eleven and a half so that is 32 ounces. Four and eleven and a half which comes in right at two pounds. Some really great key features of. This shoe is the porthole sock liner. That they went with on the inside of here really comfortable there's. No stitching on the inside so your foots not rubbing up against anything which is. Really great if you're doing any type of long-distance i can definitely something you want definitely helps with blisters and the advanced chassis sense of fit. Upper that they went with it really hugs your foot really fits nice like a glove. My foot doesn't seem to move around a lot in it which is obviously definitely good against blisters or anything like that now they went with instead of going. With a be room sole like a lot of hiking shoes now they went with what they called the contra grip system um get some okay lugs on here not as hardcore. As a lot of hiking shoes but lately. Hiking in it i found that i really liked. The traction really liked the grip of this sole so maybe it's something new. Maybe it's something just as good as be broom i definitely have to put a lot more research and a lot more hiking on to it to really see how i end up liking that as far as wet conditions. Snow ice stuff like that but so far I've. Been pretty happy with it salomon also decided to put this little rock bumper up here on the nose of it so. Definitely helps against some heavier rocks going downhill or kind of smacking your toe on anything i really like that little feature as well so yeah all. Around it is a really great shoe I've done a few hikes with it haven't. Done any extended long-distance hiking with it I'm still kind of on the fence if whenever i returned to the appalachian trail in 2016 if I'm going. Merril you've cheaped out guys with this new moab — i am very disappointed for many. Years I've worn your moab shoe it's prevented me from rolling and busting my ankle which i have a predisposition for. When i found the moab's that went away i. Don't have sweaty feet issues and i don't wear out the soles so i probably. Bought about two generations before this. That went to the trash but i buy a pair every two years my oldest one sir just. Enough time for the trash — four years old these are my current once and i just. Bought these moab twos no i put a lot of miles on my shoes I've walked well over a thousand miles a year my wife and i we walked four miles a night five days a. Week you do the math plus we go to the national forest and that's some pretty. Rough terrain and also for my wife and i walk is all gravel roads so i put some. Use and abuse on soles and on the demo. Abs i have never gone through a soul which is amazing for me so I've said i. Would just die in a pair of barrels but that changed with the moab — i heard about the moab — and so i called barrels. Customer service, and they said oh it's still the same thing just different new and improved materials well that's not true when i got these in this morning this new pair right here i tried them on it. Instantly my ankles felt unstable and i. Just couldn't figure out why so i started trying to look at some details here and lo and behold there's quite a. Few details and changes i should say so. First off let's look at the ankle stiff. There you see you have this stiffener that's not just sway it there's actually a stiffener in here okay going up here across like that now look. Here nothing it's going all right. So that's difference number one number. Two the padding now these are compressed. In this used to be thicker okay see that now look at this of. Course it's black but I'll put my finger. There so you can see now it's not just. An optical illusion i took my calipers and i measured these. Things that are two years and four years respectively in age have 7/8 of an inch. Thickness here a padding this one just a. Hair over half okay that's cheapening out i I'm not happy. With that and then also look at the eyelets here make the geometry the. Eyelets you have them coming up cross here then you have two of these cinch holes okay same thing here with the. Older one even now look at the new one. Ah it's just straight and one eyelet no. New and improved i don't think so i. Thought merrill was a company above. Doing stuff like this so I'll be. Returning these very disappointed i cannot risk harming my ankle over this so i disregarded some of the online. Warnings about it and i bought these and. It turns out that the folks who had negative reviews were telling the truth they're spot on so avoid this thing. Sorry merrill please do a better job next time. Fix this

You guys since i finished the georgia portion of. The appalachian trail it's been raining almost non-stop it's finally. Right now just drizzly so i just came. Been going stir-crazy so i wanted to. Tell you about the new shoes that i got. From rei gosh i think i got them maybe. Like a month ago over six weeks ago i. Can't even remember now oh hey. I found what appears to be a bit of. Betrayal If my suspicions are correct if this. Should be going the link might be for. Launching back to the shoe story i. Picked up a pair of oboes and. I have been toying with the idea of trying ovo's ever since i came down with. The plantar fasciitis in my right heel. And let me tell you seven months later. My heel is one well. Not 100% but i want to say like 90%. Pain-free finally and the minute that i. Put the oboz on and walked in them like. Five steps. I knew that my foot was gonna feel. And discovered the arizona trail that's what i discovered the florida trail and i was like what like wait really i could. Have been hiking in florida all those years that's my life. Okay this is a review of the women's. Oboes low top hiking shoe i did buy. These at a local store i did not buy them from amazon but i wanted to add this review i have a wide foot and a. High arch and these shoes work very well. They have a nice wide toe box and they. Have a narrow, but they have a narrow heel they have a good arch support on the inside and i like the fact that it. Has a very aggressive tread so it works. Very well been a lot of hikes with these i have not had any trouble hiking on a. Lot of loose scree and these catch very. Well i don't slip and slide it will fall. Walked on wet rocks and other surfaces. That were not very stationary and they. Work very well i can walk them in all day and even though they have a tough aggressive tread they do have enough cushion on the inside that they are comfortable enough to wear all day and. They don't hurt my feet a lot of shoes. When they put a pretty tough tread on the bottom end up being too hard on your. Feet but these have just the right amount of arch support and cushion and a. Nice rugged sole.
