Trainer season is just around the corner, and if you’ve done it before you know that the amount of sweat generated in an hour on that machine blows your average bike ride out of the water. With no cool breeze to wick away the sweat and keep you dry, aside from a small room fan, you end up soaking your jersey, shorts, bike, and shoes. Louis Garneau understands the inevitable increase in sweat, which is why they made the Louis Garneau Actifly Cycling Shoes extra breathable and vented, so you can stay as cool as possible when you bang out your trainer miles or hit a spin class.
The Actifly Cycling Shoes wrap your foot in synthetic leather uppers that are dominated by mesh panels to keep your feet breathing. The mesh is treated with anti-odor technology, and Louis Garneau claims antibacterial technology as well, so they aim to keep your feet feeling and smelling fresh no -matter how sweaty they get. Inside of the Actifly shoes is more mesh, honeycomb perforated, and again treated with anti-odor technology to promote breathability, comfort, and quick drying. The outsole is made from nylon-injected fiberglass, which offers moderate stiffness for power output, but has a little more torsional flex than a carbon-fiber sole does. Even the outsole of the Actifly Cycling shoes is designed to keep your feet cool and dry, thanks to ventilation throughout that keeps your foot breathing from the bottom as well.
Since we don’t always have the same pedal setup indoor as outdoor, and often if we’re heading to a spin class there can be a huge range of options available, the Actifly Cycling shoes are designed to be ready for nearly any style of pedal you can throw at it. With steel inserts that come along with the shoes you can run any 3-bolt road cleat or 2-bolt mountain cleat, so it’s as easy as a few turns of a hex key, and you’ll be ready to ride your local spin classes SPD pedals after using your Look’s at home.
The Ion Rascal Mountain Bike Shoe is for those ready to charge over the whole mountain, who want the support and pedaling efficiency of a clipless shoe, with the look and tread of a flat. Built with SupTraction, the Rascal offers more than power transmission onto your pedal, it’s designed to combine stiffness, lateral flex, and torsional control to prevent your foot from tilting on the pedal. The tread is constructed with specific zones for pedaling and hiking, ensuring the most control on the bike, and grip when you have to climb a bit.
The Rascal is constructed with a synthetic leather upper, and like its sibling, the Raid, it uses a lace up closure, however the Rascal is also reinforced with the SerpenTie hook and loop strap that helps you cinch down the upper with the perfect amount of support across your foot. The sides of the upper feature JetStream laser cut ventillation, to keep you from getting hot-foot, and mesh across the toe box. The toes are reinforced twice for ultimate protection and durability; they first see a burly strap of rubber across the front, for protection from impacts against big rocks and roots, and a secondary reinforcement strap with no-sew construction to protect from abrasion. Speaking of reinforcements, the ankle also features a hit of padding on the inside, so you’re protected from unwieldy crank arms or your frame, in the event of a crash.
Euro brands have a reputation for cobbling slim, sculptured shoes that remain tantalizingly off-limits to cyclists not blessed with the delicate feet to match. Before you write off Euro brands completely, slide your foot into the Sidi Ergo 4 Carbon Mega Shoe and experience a slipper with expert European construction and a platform that actually accommodates your taller instep and wider-than-average forefoot.
Sidi blends beloved features from throughout its line to create the Ergo 4, so if you’re familiar with the brand, you’re likely to recognize things like the Tecno 3 buckle system and Adjustable Heel Retention Device. The Tecno 3’s dual ratcheting buckles provide micro-adjustability across the length of your foot for a contoured, secure fit that works for your foot. A wider platform shouldn’t translate to a sloppy, loose fit, and Sidi unsurprisingly succeeds at striking a balance between the two with the Ergo 4. To match the heel of the shoe to your foot, tighten or loosen the adjustable heel to establish a secure fit that won’t slip or waste power when you stretch out of the saddle mid-climb.
Underneath, the full carbon composite sole handles power transfer, creating a rigid medium through which to transfer power from the engine to the frame. A full carbon shank surrounded by nylon-reinforced carbon achieves a balance of slight flex for comfort with uncompromising rigidity during punishing efforts.
A work boot needs to be able to “work” in any condition, which is why Chrome created both the 415 and the Storm 415 Work Boots that are featured here. With Chrome’s Storm technology, the 415 combines the hardworking, waterproof durability that’s required for daily riding with the laid-back San Francisco styling of its “415” namesake.
Chrome constructed the uppers of the Storm 415 Work Boots from an oiled, full-grain leather. On top of this, the shoes feature the Chrome’s Storm waterproof technology — an internal membrane of four-layer breathable, waterproof fabric. And to make sure that absolutely no water get’s through, Chrome also gave the Storm a fully-taped seam construction. The uppers were attached to the last and sole using vulcanized construction, which also provides a flexible, yet durable sole. At the footbed, Chrome used a contoured polyurethane that’s impact-resistant and features a blown rubber midsole wedge for comfort. The soles are board lasted for pedaling comfort, which is really why Chrome created the 415 Work Boots in the first place.
Outside of the 415’s commuter advantages, Chrome made them to be the ultimate freestyle/lifestyle shoe. The heel is protected from bails by a rubber heel cup, and the midsole is reinforced with a nylon/glass fiber shank. The 415’s moderate profile also makes it easy to get in and out of either toe straps or cages. So, you don’t have to go down with the ship when the ship is sinking.
Finishing off the shoes are steel aglets that keep the laces from fraying, a padded collar at the ankle, and reflective rear loops that increases your visibility to motorists in low-light conditions.
The Lake CX402 Speedplay Shoes are more or less identical to the three-holed version, just built specifically for your Speedplay cleat interface. No shims, adapters, or three different kinds of bolts to get your cleats mounted, just a quick-and-easy bolt on. We should all be so lucky.
And, of course, since these are the 402s, you get a full kangaroo leather upper and dual Boa closures for a supremely personalized fit. Kangaroo leather is well known for its ability to perfectly conform to a shape over time, and these shoes are no exception. The 402s also feature a heat-moldable carbon fiber sole to make the fit even more perfect.
Alleviating the torturous routine of squeezing your wider feet into standard cycling shoes, the Lake Men’s MX237 Mountain Bike Shoe accommodates bigger feet on the trail with their widened shape. Bumping out the width of the shoe by as much as 15mm, the MX237 alleviates the tingly sensation and pressure points caused by wearing overly tight shoes. The MX237 carries many of Lake’s best technologies for unrelenting speed and foot-conforming comfort when you’re slaloming down twisty singletrack and dissecting punishing lines on the trail.
Smooth and supple, the full grain leather upper conforms to your feet over time, much like your favorite slippers. Perforated holes exhaust heat as your ride in warmer conditions. Another stand-out feature is the dual Boa closure, which independently tightens the forefoot and heel to alleviate heel lift without cramping your toes.
Elevating you atop the podium of your local race series, the Competition last and Race carbon fiber sole transfer every watt of available power into forward momentum. By directing power output through the ball of your foot to the pedals, the MX237 creates a highly efficient platform that minimizes wasted energy during racing and training. And for instances where hike-a-bike is necessary, molded rubber lugs deliver aggressive traction across slick rocks, roots, and muddy trails.

XC and cyclocross racers take note: Mavic’s new Crossmax SL Ultimate Men’s Cycling Shoes are lightweight, efficient, and want to go fast. Mavic’s innovative Energy Grip Terra Carbon SL Outsole provides optimal power transfer yet maintains an incredibly low weight. The Ergo Bonded upper and Ergo 3D tongue ensure your feet stay comfortable and secure during long rides. So while the Crossmax SL Ultimate offers a rigid platform, Mavic doesn’t sacrifice comfort or mobility; you’ll have no problem the next time you have to shoulder your bike and charge a run-up. For added support, Mavic includes the Ergo Fit 3D+ Ortholite inserts, and the Energy Lock Carbon Comp keeps your heel securely in place. To finish, the new Mavic Ergo Dial allows you to fine-tune the fit quickly and easily.
You already have your tri calendar and gear pretty much set for the year, and you know the local guys you’ll be training to beat this winter and spring. If you’re just trying to settle on a stiff, lightweight pair of shoes that will give you power on the bike leg and get you into and out of transitions without costing you time, Shimano’s SH-TR9 Shoes for men are a good place to start.
The SH-TR9’s two hook-and-loop straps are easy to operate from the saddle with shaky, wet fingers, and an asymmetrical heel loop helps you pull each shoe on in one motion. Breathable mesh and perforations cover the shoe’s upper, ushering air in as you start pedaling out of transition to let your bare feet dry off from the swim leg. Synthetic leather gives the shoe’s uppers shape and structure, while a stiff carbon composite sole, measuring 10 out of 12 on Shimano’s stiffness index, provides you with the power transfer you’ll need to stay on pace throughout your ride.
The SH-XC7 Men’s Wide Cycling Shoe isn’t the top model in Shimano’s cross-country line, but it does represent the greatest leap forward in a function to price ratio. In this regard, it’s similar to the XT M8000 groupset, sacrificing a few grams of weight and some high-end features to XTR M9000 but so far ahead of the next closest competitor that everyone from seasoned racers to aspiring recreationalists find that it’s just the right fit. By making the SH-XC7 available in a wide last, Shimano also ensures that the versatile shoe’s appeal is more all-encompassing than ever.
Wide last aside, the XC7 Wide is the same as the standard XC7. That means it rides atop a sole comprising multiple strata of different materials. Given that the XC7 is a race-ready shoe, the carbon-reinforced midsole is the most important of these layers as it places the XC7 near the top of Shimano’s stiffness hierarchy. It clocks in at nine out of 12 on Shimano’s stiffness scale, and the only Shimano XC shoe that’s stiffer is the S-Phyre (11/12). This is made all the more impressive when you realize that only three of Shimano’s road-specific shoes are stiffer and the next stiffest XC shoe ranks a lowly five.
Though it’s not as stiff as the S-Phyre, the XC7 does feature a more robust complement of lugs, so it’s better suited for navigating sloppy run-ups or trails on foot. The rubberized outsole also features toe spike mounts for days when not even the lugs are enough, and the compound comes from the experts at Michelin. Michelin uses two different durometers throughout the soles, targeting different qualities of grip and durable depending on how the lugs will contact the ground—just like with the brand’s tires.
As with its standard model, Shimano builds the wide last with its proprietary Dynalast construction, a design that increases pedal efficiency by a claimed .56% on each stroke. While that doesn’t seem like much at first blush, any cyclist who’s ridden for longer than two hours understands the importance of marginal gains like this. They can be the difference between finishing at the front or struggling to hang on. Dynalast involves lowering the toe-spring and heel section in relation to the arch and metatarsal areas. This creates an optimal pedaling angle on either side of the up-swing, so the dead time spot is shortened.
The upper is secured with a BOA IP1 dial and a single hook-and-loop strap over the forefoot, letting you quickly dial fit across the midfoot while leaving ample room for metatarsal expansion while mashing out of corners or jockeying for position during a bunch start. This is especially important for cyclists with wider feet. It envelopes your foot rather than simply strapping it down, creating more uniform support and further reducing pressure points.
Today we’re taking a look at this gero gero. Ridden smooth mountain bike shoe and to. Be honest i really don’t like this shoe stick around, and we’ll talk about it. Welcome to a quick review where it won’t bog you down with too many details so let’s get started with a long-winded explanation of why i bought these shoes if you’ve been with this channel a while and even actually paid attention what’s on my feet you’d probably notice how I’ve been wearing these four hands I’ve had these for about five years and i think i paid $40 for him and honestly. They’ve served me really well so as you can see they’re pretty worn out and with. Everyone else around me wearing mountain bike specific shoes i figured I’d check some out now i went with these because on paper these things look amazing they. Checked off almost all the boxes on my wish list a soul designed by the company. That made toe shoes check a rubber compound called mega grip sounds. Tantalizing mid top height that will protect my ankles yes i accept this dope. Looking strap that keeps your shoelaces in check brilliant designed in. Conjunction with pro riders yeah marketing hype what’s not to love the story changes once i put them on so. Let’s just dive right into the pros and cons we’ll start with the good stuff first these shoes are actually really comfortable when you first put them on you can tell how robust they are they. Actually have really good impact absorption as i will demonstrate by jumping off my front porch here. Now i know you can’t sense pain through a video but i will tell you my feet hurt more in the vans when doing this another pro these look really well-built they. Feel durable i don’t think there’s a grip of terror break that easily, so they. Have that going for them also i think they look pretty cool it honestly looks like something a character in space jam would wear and I’m all about that i also really like this craft it keeps your. Shoelaces in check so that’s pretty cool although it can be somewhat of a nuisance while you’re trying to tie your shoes. And that’s about where the pros stop. The first glaring obvious painful con of. This shoe is the sole now vibram calls. This the mega grip sole but i think a. Better name would be the omega slip. These jokes write themselves i haven’t found a video clip of a guy at zero that says these aren’t as grippy as five tens. I wish i had seen that video before i. Bought these now i didn’t come to this conclusion on just one ride I’ve ridden with these for about two to three months. My feet slipped off quite a bit i never. Felt confident like i had a good connection with my pedal which is not a. Good feeling I’ll even insert a few clips of me complaining about these shoes. Dang the shoes suck my foot completely. Slipped off grip on your shoes yes there. Were times when if i got my foot like just perfectly placed on the pedal it would sort of grip in there but any. Slight movement it was just done now i know you’re gonna say a little weird clip less pedals and this won’t happen. And you’re probably right but i like. Flats another negative to this shoe and these is more just me personally i feel like there’s a major disconnect between my foot and the pedal these almost felt like i was just wearing a break it’s. Hard to explain but it’s very extended. Which i know that’s what a lot of people want but I’ve been riding these vans for so long I’m just used to the flexibility of arching my foot around the pedal if i. Need to again i think that’s just my personal preference but these are just super stiff so if you’re gonna stiff. Shoes then maybe you’ll lovelies i don’t. I don’t know and the third con is honestly the price for 140 bucks i was expecting so much. More out of these shoes i was expecting. To just you know lift my feet and the bike would come with me cuz they’re so grippy so in the grand scheme of things i really cannot recommend these shoes if. You’re willing to spend this much money on a shoe definitely go with five tens i actually ended up picking up a pair of five tens i won’t even do a whole review on these they’re amazing they grip so well there’s a reason why you see so many people wearing these shoes they work now. If someone were to give these away to me i would wear them and i bet you would too and if you are. More of a budget i would say go with fans the waffle grip is classic and it. And it works but if you’re spending your hard-earned money i would skip these shoes and that’s that let me know down. In the comments what you guys think of this shoe have you had any experience with it and if you have what did you think am i just being a diva or did you really dislike these two let me know now. As always if you did enjoy this video please don’t forget to give it a thumbs up if you didn’t like it however pleases. Give it 4 dislikes to really let me know how much you hate it now if you are new. To this channel please consider subscribing a new adventure on wheels awaits you weekly, and we’d love to have you here even though this wasn’t an adventure on wheels it was somehow relevant thank you so much for watching i truly appreciate your time and until. Next week stay rowdy within reason.
Hi everyone its toby from levite. Chickaletta and today i want to talk to you about jiro cycling shoes now a bit. Of a backstory first eric horton used to have a specialized bg. Cycling shoe program and he thought that. While their shoes were really good for many reasons their design principles. Were a little bit too rigid for his liking, so he wound up in zeros hands and. They told him he can take whatever materials and whatever time necessary to make the shoe best to his liking so. These shoes their biggest selling points. Can be broken into three categories the first being engineering the second being the last and the third being support the. Big story with engineering of these shoes was that jiro teamed up with. Eastern harbin sports to design a carbon else’ll specifically for this project. Now easton has a well-established and. Well-respected reputation for their design as well as manufacturer of carbon. And what they gave this project was a. Carbon outsole with the highest stiffness to weight ratio on the market one thing that strikes me about the. Soles is that the heel step as well as. The toe step are actually not replaceable so time will tell seeing how well they go about it with respect to. The upper it’s made of tasia 100. Microfiber which you find in high-end nike whoo soccer shoes no what do we have to. Learn from soccer shoes well soccer. Players tend to kick run jump slide pivot go through mud basically there are. A lot harder on their gear than cyclists are so what we have here is a upper. That’s actually overkill for a cyclist it’s light weights very simple but. Strong and breathable the last point. With engineering is that if you look at the way the straps line up linearly. They’re not in the same line so you’ll never actually get hotspots to the same spot of your foot zero uses a mid volume. Last which is between the italian model on one hand which is typically very thin. Think seedy shoes and on the other hand you have the american japanese model. Which tends to have a big wide-open entry and then you have to mold the shoe. Down to your foot think of the shimano heat moldable shoes jiro went through 16 last revisions. Before they came out with launched at markets and the us comes in half sized. Greetings throughout the entire size and spectrum. The last big speaking points about these. Shoes is the support now your a-courtin. When he was with specialized thought that the foot beds did not automatically. Need a one-degree canting rather it. Would be much more important to address arch support issues so if you think about it makes a lot of sense most people have a natural arch to certain extensions and if this is your foot. Inside the shoe what’s happening is when. You apply force to the pedal on the down stroke first the foot is pushing. Down to fill the volume with the shoe and. Potentially your toes move forward creating fictional hotspots and then only once the foot is completely collapsed you start applying pressure. Onto the pedals so power transference. Becomes a big issue so what they’ve done is with every shoe model you get a. Footed as well as three arch supports. High medium and low moving through the. Range of shoes on offer here at the top. Of the line we have the pro light sls and the idea was jira wanted to make the lightest cycling shoe on the market so. Notably they didn’t actually put a buckle at the very top they found that a strap would. Weigh less and keep you equally as. Secure so the carbon outsole uses easton. Ici 90s lx carbon which is the lightest that they make yes the strongest uses the. Asian 100 microfiber upper the straps. Are all offset from each other to avoid hot spots they actually use titanium. D-ring loops as well as titanium screw. Threads for your cleats and it weighs. 205 grams next down the line we have the. Zero factor which uses easton’s ec 90. Carbon outsole has the same offset. Straps aluminum dearing’s. And steel screw threads but this time. They actually use an italian ratcheting. Buckle which moves one date science at a. Time so it’s very good for being a micro. Adjustments well on the bike as well there’s actually two positions which you can put the buckle on the shoe this shoe. Weighs two hundred fifty-five grams and almost the differences between the factor and the slx are pretty minor on. The good better massive spectrum zero. Trans represents a good it uses the east. And ec 70 carbon outsoles so it’s a. Little bit heavier a little bit less stiff uses the same offset straps the. Same it’s hollien ratcheting buckle with two positions but notably this is the. Aegis antimicrobial compound on his. Insole which will eventually wear off. Over time as opposed to in the upper two models there’s the ecstatic antimicrobial threading the shoes weight. A little bit more to, but they have a sister model called me trane’s hp which uses a high-volume. Glass and wood represents a double-wide. Shoe but not necessarily any longer zero. Cycling shoes over one year in the market have already jumped in the number three cycling shoe manufacturer, so we. Invite you to check out what it’s all about.
Northwave’s Razer Mountain Bike Shoe is a sleek-looking pair of mountain shoes packed with an impressive set of features for a shoe in the sub-$200 price point. With breathable uppers, a stiff sole, and Northwave’s refined fit, you’re ready to rack up miles of singletrack efficiently and comfortably while saving yourself plenty of cash for other inevitable bike-related expenses.
The Razer uses an XC 10 sole with a stiffness index of 10.0 out of 15.0 on the Northwave scale, providing efficient power transfer to the pedals while allowing a touch of comfortable flex if you have to dismount and walk. Grippy TPU lugs on the bottom of the shoe provide traction for these hike-a-bike moments and ensure outstanding wear resistance for the sole. Inside the shoe you’ll find Northwave’s Performance Regular footbed that provides all-day support and helps to eliminate discomfort and hot spots.
On the outside, unibody construction allows for large, strategically placed mesh inserts with ultra-thin reinforced materials to provide excellent breathability without sacrificing stability and support for your foot. The uppers close with a lower hook-and-loop strap across the toe box, paired with the SLW2 dial up top with asymmetric lacing that removes pressure from the top of the foot while providing a snug fit. The SLW2 dial itself allows step by step adjustments for a fine-tuned fit, with a quick full release option delivered by a single button for convenience.
If you’re just dipping your toes into the clipless pedal waters, look no further than the Pearl Izumi Men’s X-Road Fuel V5 Mountain Shoe for confidence-inspiring stability and plentiful traction underfoot. Designed to emulate your favorite pair of hiking shoes, the X-Road Fuel V5 Mountain Shoe does away with an overly stiff, race-oriented design in favor of sure-footed grip and flexibility underfoot, which are two key areas for those just learning to engage into and release from their newly acquired clipless pedals. On a side note, these shoes can be used with traditional flats, should you desire to ride unattached to your pedals on the trail or around town.
Looking underneath this sneaker-inspired trail shoe, you’ll find an X-Road nylon plate with a two-hole mounting pattern that’s compatible with SPD-style cleats used by mountain bikers and urban commuters for their solid pedaling platform and intuitive operation. Instead of taking up the entire forefoot, this nylon plate is only located where the cleat attaches, allowing the rest of the sole to use grippy rubber lugs, just like a normal pair of sneakers. This way, you can confidently walk off your bike or use these shoes with flat pedals when you’re just cruising around town.
When rolling into a beautiful campground nestled among the high mountain evergreens, it’s nice to know you’re wearing your Shimano Men’s SH-MT5 Cycling Shoes to cover the unrideable trek to your evening’s accommodations. With an outsole stiffness rating of four, the SH-MT5 falls solidly on the comfortable touring side of the spectrum. They’re durably built for functionality through long hours in the saddle, while setting up camp on foot, and hanging at any coffee shops you spot along the route.
The SH-MT5’s synthetic upper is perforated for increased ventilation, with rubber reinforcement around the toe box for stability and protection. A speed-lace system spans the top of the shoe for easy adjustment and a customized fit, and a hook-and-loop strap across the top of the foot holds the laces in place and provides an extra dose of support. Underfoot, a rubber outsole provides grippy traction over rocks, roots, damp staircases, and other obstacles, while shock-absorbing EVA foam increases comfort on and off the bike.
You’ve laid our your schedule for the year, dialed in your training plan, and just need a lightweight pair of shoes to cap off your race day kit. Enter Shimano’s Men’s SH-TR5 Cycling Shoes, with efficient power transfer and easy adjustability that will make transition time a snap.
The SH-TR5’s two hook-and-loop straps are easy to operate from the saddle with shaky, wet fingers, and an asymmetrical heel loop helps you pull each shoe on while pedaling for valuable seconds gained over your fellow competitors. Breathable mesh and perforations cover the shoe’s upper, ushering air in let your feet dry off from the swim leg and stay cool ’til T2. Synthetic leather gives the shoe’s uppers shape and structure, while a fiberglass reinforced nylon sole, provides the power transfer you’ll need to stay on pace.
If you’re like us, you’re not afraid of adventurous mountain bike rides in rugged terrain, the kind that might require a bit of hiking to get through unrideable sections of trail. The Men’s X-Alp Peak Cycling Shoe makes the most out of these types of rides, whether you’re carrying your bike up the mountain to reach an epic descent, or balancing on wet logs during a stream crossing. It comes down to the sole, which features Pearl Izumi’s 1:1 Next Step design and a sticky yet durable Vibram rubber compound. A 3/4-length carbon composite shank allows the shoe to flex just ahead of the ball of the foot for a natural walking gait, without compromising efficiency when you’re putting power to the pedals. The lightweight seamless upper delivers breathability and all-day comfort, and shrugs off errant rock strikes thanks to added toe protection.
