Has a chemical inside the matchstick that reignites itself when the flame goes out, which is how it stays live, don’t light one of these indoors for any reason and then blow it out and toss it thinking that the flame is out and then walk away, because it will reignite and then burn your house down. The same goes for outdoors. I can easily see how this thing can start a forest fire because it just doesn’t want to go out. I led one of these things at my sink and nearly freaked out when it wouldn’t extinguish.
It was even hard to extinguish it with water because, as soon as you pour water on it, the fire goes out and then lights back up three seconds later. This is a very dangerous product, be careful and do not take it lightly. You.
I was going through some of my fire-making materials and I noticed a trend. I’ve got a lot of the UCO starters. I’ve got the waterproof matches. I’ve got the sweet fire. I’ve got the storm proof matches in here. I’ve emptied the storm proof matches out of here, topped it off with a wet fire and then a bunch of the cheap dollar store matches. But these you can buy in this container from Walmart or anywhere you really wanted to. But uh I was just gonna go ahead and show you how some of these things work now the waterproof matches they’re pretty self-explanatory, but I figure.
If I’m gonna recommend you something. I need to show you that it works there. Nothing fancy they’re, just short waterproof matches. Obviously it’s go catch. Your cotton ball, pretty easy, you’ll notice, they’re not going out the easiest. So that’s always a plus. When you can count on your match, got a few boxes of these sitting around next we’ll go ahead and show off the storm proof matches. They say right on the package: windproof waterproof, oh, go ahead and open this box up. Let’s go come wrapped in some plastic right away: you’ll notice, there’s an extreme difference between the storm proof from the waterproof.
Let me hold them up side by side. You can get a good view. Extreme difference. You got wax here to prolong the life of the storm proof match waterproof match. Just has a little bit of that coating on the tip so that you can dip it in water and draw it off and it’ll still strike. The storm proof match we’re going to go ahead and take it got a strike on the side of the box is really easy, we’ll try to blow it out, can’t blow it out. If you try, that’s got a pretty good burn time to. Last but not least, we’ve got a sweet fire.
I picked this up for about three dollars at a little military. Surplus type store comes with your extra strikers, as does most everything you buy from them, but these things these are something else a little bit of Wax TIFF and then your typical looks like a Duraflame log chopped down. Now you also have a striker frit on the box. That gives you flame I mean that’s going to work really well it burns. They say it burns for about seven minutes. I’ve only used this once on a trip just to see how it worked.
Not the easiest thing to put out again say you got some wind resistance. There smash these fires out, I’ll move on to a little something now, with these use of materials, I’ll put together a little kit in an Altoids 10 I, wouldn’t necessarily call it a fire kit, it’s more of its own separate match kit, but you could get ample fire out of this got strikers everywhere, five of them on the inside, nothing on the outside, and you got some cotton balls. Some jute twine, there’s one of those sweet fires in there there’s a load of different matches in here, a load of them.
That’s all that it’s in here and it’s stacked deep, all the way to the bottom strikers everywhere you got plenty of tinder granted, you’ve got way more matches and you’ve got tender. But if you can’t find your own tender material in the woods, you need to practice your skills a lot better. Okay, there’s probably a few hundred matches here and one sweet fire here for an emergency that sweet fire, you’re more or less guaranteed a fire. Okay, if you can’t get a fire started with that, then I guess you could chop the tips off the matches or leave them on there and use these sticks instead of finding your own tender, but you’ve skills weigh nothing.
You’ve got to have them. If you don’t have skills, there’s no point in having all this to be honest with you and if you’re, not gonna practice with that, there’s no point in going out and buying it I’m not trying to sell you anything I’m, not trying to hurt your feelings, but if you’re not go practice with it don’t buy. This is my video on you, co company. They make a lot of great things. They make a lot of really good matches. The storm-proof matches are some of the best matches on the market.
The only other company I know of that makes a match. Similar is the titan company, but thank you for watching. Please like and subscribe drop a comment down. Let us know you’re watching I’m out.

What’s up everybody, how y’all doing today I’m going to show you how to make water boof Mudge box? Let’s check this out, it’s going to be a survival media, so we got here two plastic bottles. You could use any kind of bottle so like this big ones, cuz I wanna fit a lot of matches. So, first of all, I’m just gonna make this not clean-cut, then I’m going to trim it up pretty good. Then we’re going to use scissors to cut a clean cut out here. Just like this. That’s what I want to do I want to make it nice and flat.
So we got one like that and now same thing to this one: okay, that’s pretty good and then we’re gonna glue them together. Just like that and then we’re going to hold it together and glue them up we’re going to glue them up very well. So it’s watertight! Okay, you see I put quite a bit now we’re just going to let it dry and it’s done pretty much so next, all we’re going to do is open this and then I got here stuck on you about matches. I’m. Just going to put them in there actually can fit a lot of look.
That’s a couple of boxes now. Wow. Look at that now. That thing you can do is guard this empty matches and just cut all this. This way supposed to stack matches. If you don’t have strike-anywhere matches, you can use this and then just glue it right on the box. It here and then the other side that here put them on each other, like that, and you can even put it to the little baggie and then you can stick it inside of it and now in case this get wet and falls off. You have another ones to strike on now, I’m going to do the water test, you see, make sure you close it all the way, let’s stir it in there boom Wow.
It’s floats pretty awesome. Huh. Now we’re going to take it out, shake it off a little bit shake off all the water. So now I’m going to open it and boom the old arrive, and you see if this gets wet and falls off no big deal. We have most like us inside they go. That’s how you make waterproof case for your matches. That’s insane a Bella was doing in it and hold it.

Of a typhoon stick around guys: hey, hey youtube! Welcome back to urban outdoors, hey I’m urban, but you knew that. Didn’t you today guys. I want to talk to you about a product that I got in my stocking for christmas. Santa gave me these and it is the zippo typhoon matches, so I’m gonna demonstrate these show them to you and tell you what I think about them.
Previous to this, I’ve carried the uco storm matches which are good, but I think these zippos are a lot better and I’ll. Tell you why the first thing, when you feel this case that these matches come in, you can feel quality. You can see the quality. You have a spot up here where you could put on a piece of paracord and you could do a carabiner on that to attach it to something.
If you wanted to, and the case itself is just very, very good quality when you open it up, it has an o-ring around here you can see, so it is water resistant. Also on the cap on the inside of the cap, you’ll see here is a rubberized, it’s very soft and if you look close, you can see the indentation of the match. Tips that being rubber and soft keeps the sulfur tip from wearing off of the matches, which is a great thing.
That’s the type of quality we’re talking about here on this just the cap alone speaks of quality and then, like I say you have the rubber o-ring there. That makes it waterproof. The set comes with 15 of the matches and you can buy replacements. Of course, the matches look to me to be very well made, I’m going to give you some dimensions and stuff on that in a little bit, but I just want to show you the quality of the case itself.
First then, normally like on the uco store matches. The striker is right here, the striking panel, but with the zippos with the zippo typhoon matches. You take this very tight again waterproof rubber lid off of the bottom, and you can see the striker is underneath there. The striker is not going to be in danger of being ruined by moisture. So again, that’s just another sign of the quality of this match kit.
I think it would hold up against a lot of dropping and stuff like that. It’s got on there, zippo tmk, which is the zippo typhoon match kit. I want to demonstrate how they work and show you a couple of other cool features of it. So stick around all right. I’ve got a little demonstration area set up here for you, you can see. I’ve got a little container with water in it.
One thing: you’ll notice about the whole kit is that it floats. So if you were to drop this in a stream or a lake or whatever it floats you’re not going to lose it. That’s great. It’s also, like I say waterproof. So, even though I’m submerging it under the water, the matches in the striker are secure and they’ll be completely dry, all right. So now I’ll take it out of the water put the water aside, I’m going to shake it off a little bit dry it on my pants here, all right.
So now, let’s, let’s fluff up a little bit of stuff here, see if we can get a fire started. This is just a little piece of jute twine that I have. I got a couple of pieces of fat lighter, I’m gonna start a big fire because it’s kind of windy today, oh- and I don’t think the wind’s gonna- be an issue it shouldn’t not for a typhoon match right all right.
So let’s take the top off and, as you can see, everything is completely dry, not one drop of water after being submerged under water and then, as we open up the bottom, you can see the striker is completely dry as well a little teeny bit of water there on the outside, but not on the inside all right. So what we’re going to do now we’re going to strike it up here with my water, so I don’t melt my container.
Let’s see how they strike up. That was pretty easy. First strike and see there it’s going, so we can get a little loaded, a little fire going there. Let’s try this. Let’s try to put it out, submerge it under the water. Take it out, it’s still burning submerge, it again look at it. It comes back, it’s still burning so wow. How awesome is that so the match was completely submerged as you can see, and then it re-lit and then I submerged the match again and it re-lit.
Obviously, if the match was just to get wet wet because of rain or whatever it’s gonna strike. If you can submerge it and have it reignite, it’s gonna light. Obviously they burn for plenty of time for you to get a fire started. If you have some tinder, I was lucky enough to have a little piece of fat. Wood um see there but yeah the uh zippo typhoon match kit.
Like I say you can get it on amazon for about 18 bucks, but definitely a great emergency fire igniting system that you should have in your kids all right. So the matches themselves, as you can see here, are right at four and a quarter inches long. The burning section of the matches is just under three inches long. The case, as you can see, is about four and three quarter: inches long about two inches wide, very good quality case.
Very good quality match. Now, let’s test the burn time all right. What we’re gonna do now is not to hold this with my knees and do this with one hand, I want to see how long the match will burn go now. This is without dunking it in water. This is just how long you’d have to get a fire started and uh. I like that. The fact that the base has got enough for you to hold on to it, even if you had on gloves you got plenty of room down here at the base and then there, when it gets to the end of that red it fizzles out.
So I don’t know how long that was I’ll have to go back when I do the editing and I’ll put the uh time on the screen for you as far as burn time, I want to thank santa claus for bringing me the zippo typhoon match kit and uh. I’m gonna look forward to using them in the future. I’m gonna buy some replacements as I go through these, but anyway I just wanted to share this product with you and uh.
Hopefully, it’ll help you out. I hope you guys had a wonderful christmas, I’m looking forward to a great new year’s eve. While I’ve got you I’d like to ask you if you haven’t already done so, please consider subscribing to my channel also make sure you give me a thumbs up and click the bell and I’d really appreciate it. If you could leave me some comments down below about what you think of the zippo matches, whether you’ve used them or not, if you’ve used them, tell me about your experience.
If you haven’t used them, is it something you consider adding to your bug out bag or to your backpack or whatever? But I do appreciate all of you, thanks for coming along on urban outdoors until next time keep calm carry on keep it outdoors. The striker is not going to be in dammit and damn it so the striker if it gets. If this, I think it would be uh you.
Ok today, we’re gonna take a look at too much because it still has to do with fire and it’s a product of Zippo. This is the Zippo typhoon match kit, the typhoon match. Kids got 15, typhoon matches and a water-resistant case, and it’s a Zippo product. It’s got the Zippo logo all over it. Take a look at the back says: it’s equipped. You use this you’re equipped for any forecast shows the matches in the holder built to last easy ignition emergency ready, pocket-sized I’m, not too sure about that water resistant when resistant, reusable well, the matches not reusable, but the case is but here’s the manufacturing logo, simple, manufacturing company, bradford, PA manufactured two Zippos quality standards in china warning this product contains chemicals known to the state of california to cause cancer and birth defects or other reproductive harm, and it’s got an instruction manual inside.
So let’s take this thing apart and I try to put it together and see how it works, so the 15 matches go in. It’s got the kit that removable cap, this have a lanyard hole on it right there. Let’s put these matches inside the case. 15 matches: well, it’s only 14 now, because I was playing around with it before it’s about 10 11, 12, 13 s, 13, that’s good! I’m, gonna use one as a demonstration out this thing’s got a nice rubber seal full ring on it, and you can see it’s got the Zippo logo and it says t MK, typhoon, match kit on both sides and that’s the Stryker part down here.
It’s also nicely sealed, probably be waterproof. It does come with a couple extra striker pads and the only product I have that I can compare to you right now. Is this Coleman match kit? It’s a plastic case with I think it’s 15 matches, but the size difference is amazing. This is about one-third. The Coleman is about one-third, the Zippo size and it holds 25 yet yeah 25 matches in here they are a lot smaller and their wax dipped to be waterproof.
They’re, not dunk proof, but they are waterproof. It comes with a striker on the base. This is also made in China. Let’s see if we can do a dump test or a drop test. A lit drop test on one of these typhoon matches see if it lasts more than one dunking. Okay got that thing started: let’s do a dunk test see it’s really a lot of sulfur in it. Here’s the dunk test completely underwater, will it relight and there it did a real it everything it really itself after being underwater.
So that is definitely what I’d call pretty close to hurricane proof and a lot of sulfur in that one. So that is the typhoon match kit by Zippo, and this thing is not exactly what I’d call pocket-sized, because here is a this. Is a six ounce plastic jar of badiya, complete seasoning? This is really good seasoning. Let’s see almost the exact same size of that thing and that’s a handful, so that is the Zippo typhoon match kit 15 matches I’m down to about 13.
Now that would be a definitely uh something for the trunk for emergencies, but ah about a sulfur in here. Okay, it’s definitely a nice little kit to have, and it probably deserves a little cowbell. Oh look a bomb.
All right got some wood here. Gonna just get a small fire going using my Zippo typhoon gigantic match. Casey striker on the bottom shiny seems like it’s a pretty hot flame here, nice all right, so I thought I’d. Try to simulate a situation in which we drop the match in snow. I’ve got some good wet snow today, all right, so the match is going alright see what it does all right. You can tell it’s in the snow and it’s still burning it’s just like melting away, the snow.
Okay, it’s actually pretty cool! So again, I could drop this match in the snow, I’m building a fire. You a smother here. Look at that! It’s still burning. This thing is still going nice. We’re gonna be having some rain on and off again all day today and I wanted to see what this typhoon match. We do inside just if it’s left out in the weather, so we’re gonna go back in a couple of hours and I see what it does.
I’m gonna actually take my Nalgene here and we’re gonna jumpstart the match. By giving down. You know when the rain comes, we’ll see what it does. Time is right now, 11:05 you’ll see all right. So it’s about 14 2004, about three hours off and on it’s a little bit damp I’m, just gonna actually wipe it on my sleeve and I got the end here. Let’s see what it does. First, one didn’t go. No all right! So I wonder if that’s been totally waterlogged, we’re gonna dry this off a little bit.
I’m gonna! Try it on the side here now, so that kind of failed. This test, didn’t it after being waterlogged for that long. That match did not take. Do not want a light off this. Let’s see if it lights on fire, hit that piece down all right, so yeah, all that yellow part has worn off and I’ll try lighting it with one of my lighters here, smoking there. It goes all right. So that’s a pretty good! You know! That’s still that intense flame, this be sparkly, but so, after being really waterlogged, it still does light on fire.
Okay, pretty windy day down here in the gorge, see how these light in the rain and I actually did like I thought it didn’t light, but it actually did that wind. You can tell it’s burning down a lot faster, which makes sense I, guess these things are really hard to blow out all right, I, just gotta. Let it burn down I! Guess it’s cold! All right! So I wanted to run a simulation where I dropped my match on the ground.
What’s snowing here and I knocked my Nalgene over on top of it all right, so do it just like we would we’re gonna just kind of dry it off in my hand, here a little bit sometimes that gasket is tough to get off all right, sold it right up. Okay, I drop my match on the ground and let’s write up all right, so you can get our tinder going here. Nice matches are so hot. They like those fuzz, sticks right up, and with that love the fact you could be trying to light your fire.
You drop it in the snow. You pick it right up now on to the typhoon match case itself. Again, this is the biggest match case I’ve ever owned, because it’s so large, that’s that’s kind of a it’s a good thing, because the matches are long. It’s the only match case who would fit a match that long, but it weighs about two and a half ounces empty when I load it all up. It’s going about 3, 8 ounces. That said this is pretty much guaranteed to get a fire started, because it’s so big, if you put your matches in you, alternate them so upside-down side.
You can fit more matches in here. I think I’ve got nine matches in here, which is plenty and I have a room for three of the UST wet fire tenders. I also stuck an extra match pad in the cap. That’s inside plastic, and this thing is waterproofed. It floats, which is awesome I, like the fact that it has a cover over the striker pad again. This is a striker pad. I’ve been using the whole time and it’s not ready to be replaced yet, and you can replace these no problem.
Is this sticky tape so again that cover keeps it protected, so it doesn’t wear off, probably the one improvement that I did make to it as I added some of this. This glint tape, this reflective tape to the side of it. Just so, it’s a little bit more reflective at night, it’ll it’ll pick up the shine. A lot easier. I also have a long lanyard to it. This is Kelty trip tees cord, which again is a reflective cord.
Nice thing I’m getting in the winter here, I dropped that in the snow, that’s heavy. It’s got a sink to the bottom and it’s cord will be up at the top. So again, if I drop it in the snow, I’m gonna be I’ll, find my match case now again. For my purposes, this is a good standalone item I’m getting away from carrying a survival kit which I’m gonna do that in a later video. Why I’m getting away I’m carrying a kit but I still carry all my essentials, and this is a nice large, easy-to-use container that I can throw into my pack for emergency fire starting all right, so I’ve been using this typhoon match case and matches from Zippo we’re about the last month and a half.
It’s gone, backpacking lots of hiking trips, lots of field testing here, and this is kind of my final overview. The matches are really cool again. Look how long they are. These things burn between 20 and 30 seconds. Every time I’ve lit them such a nice long burn. You wouldn’t have a problem starting pretty much any fire with just one match: they do you can douse them in water. You can drop them in the snow.
They’ll still keep on going. That’s pretty awesome. One reason I, like the factor, so big is when your hands get cold, you start getting hypothermic. You lose all your fine motor controls. This nice big match look how you can grab onto it with your full hand and strike it, and that’s that’s a pretty nice way of making this match now kind of the the downfall of this match is that it is so long burning that a private wits not good for things like stove lighting right, because it only takes a second to light, your stove and guess what no now you’re sitting here.
You waiting for your match to burn out. So if we’re lighting, your stove I, probably recommend it again. It’s for good for fire-starting, especially for emergency fire starting kits annually. The other downfall I can think of is that it tends to be a little bit stinkier than regular matches, not a huge thing, but maybe for some of the hunters that are looking for odor control. It is a little bit smellier.
Match cap this product is designed to do just about everything that a match cap can do on. The bottom has a abrasive striker used for strike anywhere matches inside the cap. It has the phosphorus striker used for kitchen matches. Nato matches the rei, extended-length stormproof matches externally on the match. Catch you’ll notice that it has some pretty nice.
Construction has a pretty unique neural and just some nice external features. The lanyard holder has enough room to actually loop it around twice and do one of these you can do obviously, whatever you want with it inside the match. Cap you’ll find the o-ring and you’ll find the red phosphorus striker, and here you’ll find the matches, of course, and it’s hard to tell.
But the inside of the mask app is actually tapered and that allows the match head, which is typically bigger to fit down in the bottom and allows more matches to fit and because primarily because this whole ring- and these thread features take up more space, so it works pretty simply just grab a match: grab ahold of the head cap and strike away.
That’s all there is to it.
Everybody today we are reviewing the XO tack match cap. This is a survival match case and striker, it’s waterproof, which makes it really nice to carry waterproof matches or even regular matches, while you’re out camping or hiking or even hunting. You know, it’s really lightweight is to show you here. This is the gun metal version. They have a couple different colors.
This is the gunmetal color some screws right here you can see. It’s got this orange Oh ring right here to help keep the water out. It’s got a matt striker right here, it’s kind of cool because as a mass record here it has one on the bottom. This is a little bit coarser, that’s a little bit finer right there, but your matches go right in here. Here’s some these I’m taking these out the package yet, but those are some waterproof matches.
You can see how they just slide right down in there and this would keep it really safe. You know it should fit most matches if you have quite a bit of room there to slide them down in. Let me just show you how much this thing weighs. That’s one of the cool things about it. It really is a lightweight lightweight carrier. You know, doesn’t wait quite an ounce at point, eight ounces.
So this is an easy one to throw in your pack and not have to worry about too much adding extra weight or throw it in your survival pack. It’s got a little lanyard loop here, so you can throw it on the lanyard and keep it locked into place. You can wear it around your neck. If you wanted to or, however we just give you an idea how long it is with the land, your head and everything, it’s about three and a quarter inches long and you’re talking about probably just shy of an inch in width, so it doesn’t doesn’t take a bunch space at all.
So, like I said, that’s the gun, metal version, they also do a couple. Other versions, I believe they do an orange and a black as well. So it gives you some options. What you like I, really like this gun metal version, I, think it’s really sleek and good-looking, and that’s the other thing. It is a good-looking case too. You know we all are a little bit vain like things that look look sharp on this, so something great to carry throw in your pack.
Don’t a survival pack and carry with you. You know I think I’d recommend carrying something like that along with a fire starter, because you just never know you know it’s always good to have a backup. So I usually like to carry one of these and then a fire starter. Maybe you in the lighter as well, because one thing I never want to be without is fire so anyway come see us at mud, creek, calm and check us out a little bit further and see what else we have to offer.

I’m unboxing looks like another one of these match case. Containers ooh looks like you came from with some stuff pick this up on Amazon and again, another aluminum aluminum seems like it’s painted I mean it seems like it’s powder-coated, you know, look at the texture on there and it feels durable from EDC gear sturdy, reliable, waterproof this one’s black, and it’s pretty long.
As you can see here, it’s kind of almost like one of the tactical flashlights does come with two extra o rings. It looks like, and that is probably so you can. You know it’s interesting. Is this one is a little different in that it looks like you can open a top and bottom, let’s just quick, take a little tour through the fuselage here cap on the bottom, with some flutes here, so that you can grip it and open it up, and obviously you can see the o-ring right there kind of a really short cap on the bottom and then a little bit taller cap kind of like a water bottle again floating up at the top.
So you can grip it. A big big loop for running a carabiner or paracord through there and over an obviously obvious right, there’s what’s false the bottom here screw the sleek holy smokes holy smokes. If you want the red man, you get your money’s worth with this. It’s a cap, kind of a silencer and writing right there. The aluminum is kind of thin walled, which is nice, so you don’t have a real, thick kind of militant lumina books.
You’ll pick up the top here, lots of thread and because it doesn’t open up in the middle I, guess you kind of need the top and the bottom to come off, especially something Falls will go down the bottom, like you, have a cotton ball or something down there. You’re never gonna be able to get it out these two pieces. The caps seem like really kind of media.
They have some weight to them and obviously you can see in here it look like they do, but there’s a lot of tests on these and then the tube here kind of a little thinner actually feels yeah like I could crush it and pray can’t. But I feels like I kind of good. You can see there. Then you’ve got a whole path through, so you can get everything out, which is nice, like I said because it’s kind of long and deep, you know for quick comparison.
I have one of my strike-anywhere matches and you can see there if people matches on there and they fall into the lower cap. I mean I, don’t even know. If you eat your finger anchors, you could get your finger down to get them, but that would be pretty tough, so pretty clever, I didn’t even know the bottom and the top came off. Whichever is which, because the logo looks like it’s this ways up and what’s interesting is I.
Think I’m sure the threading is the same on both ends so they’re really, the tube has. You know real awful order. So anyway, if you’re looking for something to carry in your EDC camping survival, outdoor pouch, you can certainly check this out I’m going to give you a quick dimension here, four inches, basically just maybe a smidge under maybe actually smidge more with the top on.
So if you have something longer that you need to take with, you, I think this is the first of the GDC match. Taste containers that you’re going to want check it out. I’ll, put a link to in the description peter von banda out.
