Hey guys, I hope, everybody’s doing good. I just wanted to take a second and do a video on some of the 510 shoes that are out and um. There’s there’s numerous different styles. I don’t know 10 15 20 different pair. I think some of you guys watching this video may have some. I may have used them uh for a lot of years, uh they’re, pretty new to me, um, of course, I you know just started getting pretty heavy into mountain biking, the last four or five months.
I guess- and I’ve really enjoyed it, but I found out having uh shoes that is designed for mountain biking, especially flat pedals, and you really got to have the correct shoes to be able to ride and be more comfortable and keep from losing traction and grip with your feet coming off the pedals. This is pretty much my riding shoes right here. These are the 510 free rider and, as you can see, the bottom has the sticky sole stealth rubber call it stealth, rubber and um.
It’s a it’s a really nice shoe. This is um the cheaper version uh this version, I think costs 99. I I purchased them from zappos and actually had them price match these shoes for a good bit less um, so they have four or five different styles of the free rider. Some of them have more. These have like a suede type leather around the toe. Some of them have a better, stronger toe box, um and and are more water resistant.
I guess, and those will cost more, but I really enjoy these. I ride with these shoes um every time I ride my bike and they’re just a really heavy duty. Nice shoe another one. Is this uh this shoe right here? This is the sleuth uh 510, and the same as this one, this one’s got the uh, the stealth rubber sole. It’s a little bit different than the free rider. It has some suede here, leather material right here you can see the leather there and then this is more of a cloth type kind of like on your vans.
A van shoe sword like that and, of course, they’re not as water resistant. They do make a pair that are a little bit more than these that have a more water resistant on the toe box. That has more of a guard of some sort that protects the toes a little better and makes the shoe probably last a little longer. But I really like this shoe it’s a very nice looking shoe, I kind of wear this one more casual and just use the free riders to ride.
These would also probably get dirty a lot easier being a lighter color, and then they have these right here. These are also the sleuth as well, and these are the slip-on bottles. They have the same stealth, rubber, sole and they’re. Really nice shoe as well: 510 sleuth slip-on. Of course this is more of a casual shoes also, I think more so than then one you’d want to ride a bike with, but you have the stealth rubber and it is um the same way, sticky grippy, just like the other ones uh.
I just wanted. I like slip-on shoes at times as well and uh, wanted to try these, but this is the sleuth 510 slip-on. They have two versions. Maybe a black one and a gray one. I want to tell you. This is the main thing and the reason why I wanted to do this, video for you guys that are looking for a good shoe to ride. I personally think the free rider is the shoe to go with. I think it is just a really nice all-around, tough, shoe very rigid in the sole and it just really stays flat on that pedal.
They also make clipless models where they have a little hole cut out there in the sole in the free rider, as well as some of these other ones. If you want to have the clipless shoe, but I’m flat flat, pedal rider and uh, that’s what I enjoy pretty narrow feet, skinny feet. My feet are long, but they’re not very wide, and these shoes fit perfectly in the uh size 12, and that’s that’s my measurements and the size that I need to be wearing.
So I’ve read some reviews where they said. Oh with this shoe this particular shoe, for example, they I read some reviews that people said you need to go down a half size or a full size. I don’t think so. I actually ordered an 11 and a half also to try it and it was uh very tight. Now I guess, if you decided to not wear socks with this type of shoe, then then maybe it would fit you a little better, but a 12 fits me fine, as well as the free rider size, 12 and those as well, and then the sleuth as well.
This shoe is in a size, 12 all of them fit me very fine. I will say this shoe is a little bit more narrow than the others, but I really like the way it feels very comfortable right out of the box very comfortable to wear. So I encourage you to check out check out some 510 shoes if you’re, if you’re into mountain biking, if you haven’t tried it yet I mean they stick to the petals like glue and I know they’re a very popular shoe and a lot of you guys.
Maybe that will watch this. Video has been using them for years and swear by them. I’m with you on it, because they’re great, if you have not tried them, uh, definitely uh look into getting you some 510s. Also. I want to encourage you to subscribe to this channel. We’ve grown a little bit in numbers um. You know, for those of you guys that have never watched any of my videos, I’m actually a full-time christian singer, I’m a singing artist and I travel around the country and do that and uh and of course I like mountain bikes as well, so going to be putting some more content out on mountain bikes.
I have some videos already and uh if you’d like to keep, keep up with us and subscribe to the channel and make sure you like the video that helps with youtube when they’re seeing people are engaging with your videos and uh shoot me a comment if you’d like, but I appreciate you guys. I just wanted to share with you my experience with the 510 shoes. I encourage you to get a picky up repair if you haven’t and or even if you don’t ride mountain bikes.
If you just like the way, they look they’re very comfortable shoe and I think you guys would enjoy them, but as far as riding a mountain bike, I would not ride with anything else. I mean it. It is just night and day difference from riding with a regular tennis shoe or some kind of other shoe versus the shoes made by 510 that are designed for a mountain bike. So anyway, I appreciate you guys thank y’all. So much we’ll see you next time be looking for some new videos coming out with some rides, I’m going to be doing some concerts pretty soon here in texas and in north louisiana in different areas, and I’m planning on making a few rides and doing some filming out there when I’m in that location.
So I appreciate you guys you guys be blessed and thank you all so much for watching take care. You.

Since then, everyone wants a soul, is so grippy on flat pedals. So what else makes this 5 turn free, rider, hi, EPS, so good? Well, it’s that insulation I said they’re weatherproof.
The high-top is even better flat as well. The actual review I want to give it a back story about how I ended up with the five tens I started, riding in 2015 when I started, riding I had no idea about mountain biking like nothing. I didn’t know that they were different. So the categories within mountain biking. You know, and you wrote down hill across country. You know trail I had no idea. I just thought man in my canoe and you had a man bike, and that was it. Some would argue that still the case. So when I ain’t got my first mountain bike at 2015, it was a everything.
Was a 300 or 400 euro sports department store bike, I went out and bought the cheapest pair of shamanic. Lip was pedals because that’s what you do right, you know, and man breaking his clipless and I went from there and joined a local cross country club two or three months later. I realized that I was really bored doing. Basically, fire track roads with maybe 50 meters, 100 years of crappy trail, so I went online and started looking for trails around Madrid and I stumbled across track. Mtb you’ll know Jorge and I’ll go to a lesser extent of Jorge’s in virtually every single one of my videos.
They were on a guiding company and I went out with them. I was on my first full suspension. Bike I was on my first drop, my first sort of enduro technical trail and I came to realize. I just didn’t have the skills to be able to wear clipless, pedals and I thought. Ok, you got to take a step back. I know, there’s a little bit more to this now and go take a step back and I’m gonna buy some flat shoes. There are a lot of choices, but basically the majority of people or a great number of people ride 510.
So what did I do? I went online and I chose the five ten free riders. Now you can see that these are in a bit of a state and I’ll. Tell you why this is a long long, long term review I bought these at the end of 2015 October 2015 from chain-reaction I think they cost me like 89 euros. In fact, I know they cost maybe 9 euros because I checked yesterday, why did I choose the 5 tens because they had a name that I knew I could at least count on to get going. The price wasn’t too bad for what they are and I just said.
What the hell? Let’s let’s go with this? So how do you dictate? What is a long term review? Well, some people say you know we need a month to try our product two months, six months, 12 months, these shoes have approximately 12 000 kilometers on them. This is this is a proper test, 12 000, kilometers and they’re still going just okay. So let’s look at what’s good about these shoes and what’s bad about these shoes, bad now, I bought these for 89 euros. I think that’s pretty much a solid buy biking, shoes you’re, expensive, yes, regardless worthy by clipless flats.
If you go anything over a sort of entry-level shoe, then the price this will skip up to sort of a hundred and over 100. So these were 90 euros. I think the price was pretty good on this, but they are generally more expensive than your average trainer, which a lot of people tend to use when they’re starting off on flat pedals. So if you’re going from a sports trainer, that could be a potential downside but again look how long they’ve lasted another downside to these shoes, and this isn’t only my own experience.
I’ve spoken to I have a friend who’s, also experienced this once you’ve been wearing them for a few hours, even though they are very wide on the outside. If you’ve been wearing them for a good long ride, they actually start to pinch on the side of your small toe and it can actually become quite uncomfortable until you actually get off and walk around. You do have to be wearing them for quite some time. So if you’re right on something so about fit right and these for me and for the friendly spoke to it happened, maybe it won’t happen for you.
Maybe we’ve just got the cooler feet, but that was another downside for me just to add one more just so that it’s not all positive, positive positive, and this is a negative and a positive. At the same time, the soles on the five tens on the five ten freeriders in this particular case are so sticky that once you’ve got your foot into position, you are you’re. Gonna have to lift your foot off the entire pedal to move. Now, that’s always a good thing, you’re on flat pillars. You want your feet to stay secure, but at the same time, if you need to move your feet, then that can be an issue.
So that’s that’s a good end and bad ok. So, let’s move on to the good points over 10000 kilometers, nearly 12, 000 I believe they’ve been everywhere with me all over Spain, every kind of terrain, like I, said: I bought these October 2015. This is September 2019, that’s nearly four years where what I will say now is obviously four years I mean you can’t ask for more. You shouldn’t expect more. The souls have actually started to go through now. In several places on both shoes and the grip is actually it’s- it’s it’s pretty much gone there.
My foot is sliding off the pedal and coming off a lot. Now, it’s it’s a it’s time to fall care for a new pair, but when these souls are fully intact, the grip on here is just unbelievable. Like I said you can take that as a good or a bad I personally. Take that as a good I, don’t want my feet moving around when you’re on technical, descents and boy do they stick to those pedals. So another good point is the build quality once again, 12 000 kilometers on them for years riding, and there is not one stitch that has come apart.
The sole and the shoe is still completely together. Yeah I’m, not hiding this one here. This is more difficult to hold to all. The stitches are intact. Still the original laces the tongue is still intact. The build quality is phenomenal. You know for those 90 years, I paid in chain-reaction I cannot complain. That is one solid, solid shoe and on a similar on a similar vein, these are actually very comfortable to walk around and when you’re, not on the bike, you could almost I mean if they weren’t quite so heavy.
You could almost use them as a as an everyday shoe. They are incredibly comfortable to walk around in and that’s a huge plus when you’re on flat shoes, I actually have a pair of boots as well. Five 10 boots- and there are a lot more protective around. Obviously the ankle and and the toe one thing I will say for the free riders is, they do have quite a lot of flex on them, which can be a good thing, which can be a bad thing, but I will say there is very, very little protection on the end. I have caught my feet between a rock and a hard place literally several times, and there is no protection that I mean you get into a bad situation.
You’re gonna break your toes. That’s something is definitely to take into consideration with those with with this. With regards to the aesthetics, well, five tens a some of the better-looking shoes there, perhaps not the sexiest things on the planet. They are pretty big, they are pretty wide. They are pretty heavy and pretty chunky. You know it’s personal taste, whether you like to look at these or not I, personally, don’t think they’re too bad, but then again, I’m not looking at my feet when I’m riding down the side of a mountain.
So that’s up to you now. I know that 510 is one of the most popular brands for flat pedals. There are several others out there as well. I haven’t tried in the other side. Don’t have a point of comparison. I just went straight to five tens, my other flats, the boots of five ten as well. These are pretty much ready for the bin. Now so I’m gonna be in the market for buying some new ones. Now the easy choice will be to go to five ten again because they’ve been great but I always like to experiment.
I, always like to try new things. So I would ask you if your a flat rider, if you’re not riding five tens and you’ve really ridden any other brands. What can I be looking at and you know, I don’t want to break the bank. I want someone who’s gonna last I want something. That’s gonna have at least the same amount of grip as five tens and that’s a lot to ask and if they could be a bit lighter, maybe even a bit more waterproof. If you do live in sort of wetter climates like the UK, these could be a nightmare because they are very thick.
They could take a long time to dry in Spain. There’s, not an issue you ride one day. If it does rain, it gets wet by the next, but the next day, it’s perfectly dry but yeah. So if you’ve got any suggestions about what I can go to next I definitely became to hear those in the comments other than that. The five ten free riders I mean they don’t make them exactly the same as it’s now long long long long term with you but I couldn’t recommend them highly enough. I mean these. Have been absolutely solid, solid pair of flat riding shoes if you are in the market or even if you’re looking to buy your first pair of flats, definitely go check online.
There are always deals, especially on these older models. A great pair of shoes can’t recommend them enough if you’ve enjoyed this review, give it a thumbs up like and I hope you that subscribe button. I see you next time, I Stella proxy back.
