This tabletop review I’m going to be discussing and installing the Pirating light rail mount from Magpul. This particular light mount is designed to mount to Pirating rail sections so. This would be a product. You would use you had a hand guard with integrated rails. Or bolt on rails this is not compatible with em lock. Or key mod anything like. This is kind of the original old-school rail mount type of mechanism for lights. It is designed to handle flashlights with a body diameter of 075 to 10 3 which is really nice in the event. You don’t know what size your light is. This particular mounting mechanism is flexible enough to probably handle whichever light. You happen to have this particular product is also available in right. Or left side models I’ll talk about. That a little bit later so. You have to know kind of where. You want to put your light. How you’re going to mount. It is also designed to integrate with Magpul xtm panels. And we’ll take a look at. That a little later as well. We go to install it positions the weapon light high.
And canted forward either at the 11 o’clock. Or 1 o’clock position. It has a textured thumb ramp on an index point. And it’s its listed as being compatible with the surefire 300 600 series Scout light. And I’m going to be testing it with a black hawk x6p flashlight which has a. One inch diameter body. It also carries a retail of about it’s between twenty-five. And thirty dollars for it ships in. This box as shown here. It has a part number of ma G four nine eight — Artie — blk in. This particular situation. This is a right hand mount so a left-hand mount. Iam assuming would carry the part number of ma G four nine eight — LT — blk so let’s go ahead. And open, and we’ll take a look at what’s inside the box. We have our mount and surprisingly. This actually shipped with a Magpul sticker. You don’t normally get stickers with pistol grips. Or forward vertical grips. Any small items such as. This is odd that there’s a sticker in. This box that might just be a fluke no instructions whatsoever in the box sometimes.
These boxes fold out. And there’re instructions in them but there’s absolutely. Nothing in here it also includes two smaller screws for the light rings so. If the longer ones are not usable for whatever reason. You can swap them over to. These small ones all right. One thing that’s real nice about. This particular mount is. You were to take these rings off. You can see that. It has a slot right here. This would be the type of amount. You would use you had a light. That already had integrated rings in. Ibelieve the Surefire 300. And the Surefire 600 qualified for. You were using one of those lights with. This mount you would take. This whole assembly off. And mount it directly excuses. Me that’s what would help. Ikept in frame you are using the Surefire 300.
You take this whole assembly off. And you’d mount it directly here. Now a lot of the newer M lock mounts. They don’t include these rings. You recall in a previous video. Idid a review of the M lock cantilever mount. These rings both had to be purchased separately so. You had to buy the M lock mount assembly. And then you had to buy the Rings to put them together. This comes with both typical Magpul construction here with the polymer material. Ibelieve is the textured thumb ramp. Imentioned earlier. Iwas reading off some of the tech specs. And of course we’ve got the Magpul logo. These particular bolts here. These use either a 1/8 inch allen key. Or a hex key you can use a flat headed screwdriver the smaller bolts down here.
These are three thirty-second hex bolts. You cannot use a flathead with those. This mount does not include. Any type of allen wrenches which is odd since a lot of the other similar types of mounts from Magpul do include wrenches so that’s kind of bummer. That there’re no wrenches included with. This so you’ll have to track down your own side heads. Or your allen keys to mount. Now there’s particular mounting mechanism right here. This actually splits apart. You can actually take. This whole thing apart the screws there’s a not inside of here. It goes into so you’re not tightening a screw down into a polymer it’s its actually going into a nut. These nuts are captured. Ihaven’t tried to knock.
These nuts out but I’d play around with. This a little bit they don’t fall out on. They are captured in. Some fashion inside of their typical Magpul construction high quality polymer quality bolts the bolts. All have a little bit of thread Locker on them which is typical for Magpul. They use grade 8 bolts. Ibelieve all come with. Some thread Locker you can see the rings are just. These are not polymer. These particular rings. These are a lightweight aluminum. You notice at the top here they’re kind of together the knotch on them very high quality rings very lightweight. They basically this mechanism works sorry. Ikeep getting this out of frame here. You can see this one’s already extremely loose. This up really far this would hold a very large flashlight. You had a small diameter flashlight. You tighten this down. It pulls this downward. And tightens the body of the flashlight up to. This v-notched block right here. It works very well I’ve used.
This on 3/4 of an inch flashlight the flashlights with a diameter of 3/4 inch. And flashlights of one inch. It works exceptionally well. Ireally like the flexibility of. This design compared to a lot of other light mounts on the market a lot of other light mounts. You know you buy a. One inch light mount. And your lights a little bit less. One inch it doesn’t work. And I’ve actually run into. That myself so having the flexibility to adjust from 075 to. One point actually it’s 10 three inches allows. You the peace of mind of knowing. Whatever diameter your flashlight is. If it’s a little bit off from the stated specifications it’s probably going to work, so I’ve been real happy with.
This particular design in the. Several situations where I’ve utilized. Idon’t have any other comments about. This light mount right at the moment. One is designed this is a right-hand mount. And the reason I have a right-hand mount here is I’m going to mount. This on the top of my hand guard. And mounting this on the top puts the flashlight on the left-hand side of the hand guard. And that’s what I wanted. You wanted to mount. This on the top of your rail. And have the flashlight on the right side. You would want a left-hand mount. They say left-hand right-hand mount they’re referencing mounting this on the side rail of your hand guard so.
This is a right-hand mount it’s designed to go on the right-hand side rail of your hand guard. And mounts the flashlight on the right-hand side of your hand guard so hopefully. That makes sense I know that’s kind of confusing depending upon. You know you want to mount. It so anyway let me get a rifle out. And we’ll go ahead this mounted. And we’ll mount a flashlight. And we’ll see what kind of difficulties. We run into okay for the purpose of. This installation portion of. This product review. Ihave a ten and a half inch upper here separated from the rest of the firearm. It propped up hopefully. It doesn’t fall over. Itry to demonstrate the installation of. This product this particular upper has a centurion c4 rail on. It has integrated pica tinny rails on the bottom. Both sides in the top the sides. Ihave xtm panels on. We can test the clearance of the Magpul light mount with the xtm panels as mentioned.
This particular one is a right hand model so it’s actually designed to go on the side. And mount like you were to take a right hand. And mount it on the left-hand side. It would be upside-down. And your flashlight would be down on the bottom of rifle has shown. Idon’t know anybody would want to have their light in. That position but you did that’s. You would do it for the purpose of. This demonstration I’m going to mount. This on the top and like mentioned since. Iwant the flashlight on the left-hand side of the upper. Ineed a right-hand side right-hand mount I’m gonna put. It on the top so it’s gonna mount roughly right about there so the first thing to do we’re gonna mount a Blackjack x6p flashlight. This is a flashlight.
That I’ve done an LED conversion on. If you’re curious about. That check out my other videos. This body here with. These textured nubs on. It is 1 inch in diameter so. It will be appropriate for this particular light mount so the first thing we’re gonna do is we’re gonna we’re gonna take the end cap off. And of course you’ll want to use your 1/8 allen key. And loosen these up. You could take them off. And install that way but. What I did was I just loosened him up so. Ican slide the flashlight through. These loops that shouldn’t be too overly difficult. You should figure out exactly. You want to put your flashlight in.
This particular situation. Iam going to put it is far forward as. Ipossibly can that is so. It as to not interfere with taking off. Or putting on the battery cap, so I’m gonna put. It about rights there. You could either put your bet in here. And cap back on now to test clearances which is probably a good idea so that’s about. Where I’m gonna put. And the next step will be to tighten. These down so I’m going to tighten. These down off-camera. And we’ll be right back alright using the 1/8 in are the excuse. Me not the 1/8 inch the 3/32 small allen key we’ve got. These tightened down. You don’t need to go crazy with tightening those. You tighten them too much. You could strip out.
These metal rings you could crush the body of your flashlight so. You want to get them snug so the flashlight isn’t moving around. You also of course want to make sure they’re your bolts have engaged the threads far enough to insure. That the thread Locker has come in contact with the threads on the metal rings. Once you’ve got that taken care of the next step. Either using your 1/8 inch allen wrench. Or your flat-head screwdriver is you’re gonna want to take. These out you don’t probably need to take them out. All the way but you need to take them out far enough so. You can get this mount over your Pirating rail excuse. This off camera just loosening these up actually well just for the purpose of the video I’ll take. These out so you can see. You know there’s some thread Locker on there.
You can see these parts have little tabs on them. They fit together so. They slot into the little tabs on. This other end and of course like men like. Imentioned those little the bolts. That are in there the nuts excuse. Me are captured they’re not coming out which is a good thing and the easiest way to do. This is hopefully I’m not blocking it too much I’m just hand tightening these for the moment. And that’s pretty much. We don’t have any interference here with the xtm rail panels. Although with this light mounted. Iwanted to remove I probably would not be able to successfully remove. These with the light mounted here. Iwould have to remove. You recall with xtm panels you’re supposed to put a bullet here. And here and pry up. And pull these two pieces apart. Or my recommendation use a flat headed screwdriver. Neither would really work with the light mounted here so that’s just. Something to keep in mind. Now with this particular setup right here the logic would be.
If you’re got a grip on your upper your hands right here. You do have to kind of move your hand around a little bit to hit the button it’s not as ideal as. Iwould like you know I’d have to say. That ideally I’d like to have the button so my thumb doesn’t have to move very far to hit the button repositioning my grip. And moving my thumb back to hit the button is not ideal. Icould slide this further reposition. It a little bit further. That then I lose the ease of battery replacement so. Iwas to slide this further down. And tighten I wouldn’t be able to get the battery cap off. Most likely and to change batteries. That would have to basically remove. This mount and loosen. And go through that, so I’m not exactly sure. Iplan on keeping this long term but that’s. What it looks like at. This point you can see. This is mounted up on the upper rail. Now the flashlight itself does not protrude past the end of the barrel the way.
It set up right at the moment. Now the muzzle device on. This ten-and-a-half is a Troy Clay more so basically. All of the gases everything is going to be pushed out of the end there’s. Nothing coming out of the sides so. You with this type of muzzle device you’re not really going to run the risk of spewing hot gases. Or burnt powder or burning powder up onto your flashlight in. This situation your situation may vary of course with. These types of muzzle devices. Itry to be very careful. That my flashlight whatever. Ihappen to have on the rifle does not go past the end of the muzzle. Whatever is coming out of the muzzle does have a bit of a cone to.
Idon’t think this mounting orientation is going to be a problem based on my experiences but. You never know so you out there watching this. If you’ve done something similar. And you’ve had different experiences at the range. Or with a light mounted disclose to the your muzzle device definitely. You leave me a comment. Because it’s going to probably it’s gonna be a. While before I get down to the range. This out with the light so. Ihave a lot of a lot of things on my plate to test. When my next trip down to the rain so. Or less going to end the tabletop review of the Magpul Pirating rail light mount as well as the installation in summary. Ididn’t have any issues with. Anything on this mount the only thing I would comment on is the lack of. Any included tools which. It would be nice especially at. This price point it came with the appropriate Allen wrenches to install. This device so that’s that’s really the only thing I can.
That I’m not happy with.

All right guys we’re gonna go over to the pneumatic pull real light mount real quick comes in. This with the super section box the outer cover. This area right here. This part of the box is actually the instructions on the inside. You can see that stand open reading instructions we’re gonna wing it I’m actually set. It up a couple times so. These are the parts I’m gonna give them a little quick way of course you’re probably gonna use it’s gonna be the wings. All together that waves 180 else is 18 to set. This up on a one actually on. One inch light like. This surefire light here. Isuggest is you take them. All in the Rings all the way off there’s a point. Anything like three-quarter inch. You know the standard surefire point eight dimensions. You probably leave it in then just adjust. And then slide your light into. And then go ahead and just tighten them down but for us right. Now with this setup I’m gonna take the light.
All the way you want to take your rings. All the way off of this part about just makes. That much easier okay so at. This point you want to put them back like. This get them back into place. And you’re gonna drop your screws into. And try to line up the holes does not come with the allen wrench to do. You kind of gotta get your own I’m sure. You probably have some already for mother Magpul ventures that’s pretty much. And I’ll tell you snug. It down there snug that I’m really tight so kudos for them on. This thing locks into place really good. This particular I’m throwing the batteries at. This time and I’m throw-in the cap tighten them. All down alright gonna set up my know. Iwant I’m tightening the rest was down so. Ihave a couple rails here got a CDN defense. Now actually we have Daniel defense Centurion arms being an offense in a nice argument so the issues not going to be with the rail it’s.
More the front sight post. How wide it sits on the top rail. You do have an iron sights back up Sykes just to show. You the standard which is going to be a two. It works for the a two. All right that’s the real thing I’m the Magpul real light mount installed with an HD front sight post. You can see the clearance right in here between the actual amount. And the a to post all right position on. All right so let’s not. It on there you can see the clearance. This is actually a daily indifference fixed front sight. This is pretty heavy but pretty much a small profile here. Ijust shows how close it’s gonna get to your Mac pool light mount the space right it’s pretty tight so.
You know you’re not gonna be able to do too much a bigger sight. This right here reset. More time move on to. Another set up alright just tell. Me oneI’ts which actually has a built in front sight post which should work smoothly. All right so this is with the Knights. It looks of course you still pop side up use the back of our size. And the real light mouth okay there’s spacing right up in there in fact. This is the mbus Gentoo so. You would think this will be able to fit with their own design front sight. What happens no clearance I’m not getting any clearance so. Ican’t set that in there I’ll come over a little further back. It in there I’ll give. You idea I moved further back. All right so you look right here look at the spacing between the actual site itself.
And the Magpul I laid them out it’s no spacing I couldn’t bring this up further to have the ideal forward amount of the light so there’s a lot of real space here. Iwould like to use. Iwould like to move. It up here but being. That the actual bracket here starts right here doesn’t allow the 20 further up. You also have the lever activates D I’m the site here which. Iend up blocking it. And just you look they will make a setup to run with their own very popular sites. They do have the end bus Pro out. Ithink the emboss probes being. That it’s very small should work with. All know what’s going on with emboss Pro there’s a lot of issues with those. Iguess they’re working on. What brought us back into the redesign pile -. If we’d get a real light mount gen 2 out. Because it’s just a little bit too oversized to work with the majority of setups out there. Ibelieve that quite a lot of guns. That are running the full rail have a emboss on the front. We love to put this light on there with.
You know running alongside of just with the price point is actually a great price point it’s a nice design it’s just. That with going with the polymer. You have to use a lot of polymer to get the strength. You need so there’re certain parts of. This which I don’t believe should be polymer. They should have stuck. It to metal steel put. Some steel in there so. They can end up making something that’s a little smaller. And not so bulky that’s just my opinions on. This particular issue. You have any other opinions. You know what you think would be done. Anything like that just put in the comments box. Iappreciate it thanks a lot.
