This is the Kelty Catalyst 80 Internal Frame Backpack. It's got a ton of storage capacity. A unique set of organizational features and an adjustable suspension system that you can tweak while on the move.

Let's take a closer look at what makes the Catalyst 80 so unique. I've turned the Catalyst 80 around so we can look more closely at its suspension system and what enables it to carry heavy loads comfortably. You can see that you've got contoured shoulder straps, nicely padded. Padding on the lumbar region as well as across the hip belts. You're getting a nice comfortable wrap there. You can also see that foam padding here on the back panel. As far as the structure of the pack is concerned you have twin aluminum stays that offer support and rigidity.

There's also a hope frame sheet in the back here which gives the pack more structure, more stability, makes sure that loads remain balanced. There are some HDPE stiffeners in the hip belt as well which also gives some stability there. The real standout feature, however. On this suspension system is called out right here. Perfect fit suspension with most backpacks. You've got to put it on. You've got to possibly take it off fiddle with it get it set in the right position. If it even has adjustability with the perfect fit suspension system you can put it on and with these straps that you can easily reach behind your back.

You can adjust that suspension system up or down. So that you get the fit you need. That will accommodate torsos ranging from as little as 15 and a half inches all the way up to 21 inches or a really broad range of adjustability that enables this pack to fit a wide range of backpackers and hikers.

A couple of other points of adjustability here. You've certainly got belt stabilizers shear cinch which is pull forward motion on the waist belt. Which again lets you decide exactly where that wrap settles in got load lifter straps. You've got sliding sternum straps. Just a number of different places in conjunction with those pulls on the perfect fit that gets you situated properly to be comfortable all day long.

Want to turn the Catalyst around and show you. It's an interesting set of organizational features definitely a little bit different than when I'm seen on most packs. Got somewhat of a traditional entry to the pack to start off with. So top-loading big broad opening here at the top of the pack to get into the interior. It's a 5,000 cubic inch or 80-liter packs. So certainly a ton of storage here on the Catalyst 80 that lid is what we would call a floating lid.

For this episode, we have the Fjallraven Abisco 55 liter packs. 360 time you guys have seen this pack before. A winter storm coming. We were just going through the woods like crazy. This pack is tough as nails. It's awesome. Go ahead get comfortable. Let's take a look at it now. So here is the Nabisco pack. This is the 55 liter version. Now this is the older version of this pack from what I understand. The 55-liter male version has been discontinued. It's no longer available. I'm sure you could find it used on ebay and so on but there's a 65-litre version and now the 55-liter version is for women.

If you go out you're looking for one of these packs you come across one right here. On the back, you should be able to see that it says Abisco 55 right next to. It will either be an M or a W and that will signify it if it's for the male or for the woman. So with that being said if you get the 55 litre version or the 60 liter either way you're getting an awesome pack.

We'll go ahead and start by taking a look at it right here. At the very top, you have a drag handle, right below that, you have a zippered pocket which gives you access to the lid. Very good quality zippers. These are ykk zippers. Good quality. Pull on them too good action. You have some bungee cord right here on top so you could put your sweater whatever you want to your brain jacket out here. Maybe let something dry. You have a drawcord with that so you can cinch it down real tight. Of course, there's the fox leather very good quality. The lid is hunkered down to the pack thanks to these two straps.

On the inside of the lid, you have this large zippered mesh pocket which includes the rain cover included. It even has the fox on it. You have this buckle right here with plenty of straps it's. So you can cinch down your load or expand it. You have a drawstring pull right here at the middle and then this does extend up with another drawstring pool so you can expand your load to fit your gear to fit your needs.

Going down in the center. You do have a pocket very good amount of space. You can fill up this entire section right through here. Flipping the pack over to the side. Compression straps with strap keepers. Very nice quality. You do have water bottle pockets down here at the bottom which are stretchy too. You can fit anything that you need to in there.

You have the same features on the other side of the pack. So as you can see here the pack is now laying completely flat because this is a cool feature. On each side you have a zipper and another zipper. Check this out you can zip all the way down on this side and peel this open and that grants you access to all the contents of your bag. I love this feature on backpacks Fjallraven got it right. I haven't seen a pack that uses velcro at the top but this really does work well. You just simply line it up, smash it together and you are good to go. Being able to access all of your gear like that. It`s just fantastic. It's very smart.

Now my friends take a look here at the bottom of this pack. It is nice and flat and it's molded to be that way that was. Your pack will stand up. Most packs are not able to stand up but this one can. It's absolutely awesome. It's definitely different. I haven't seen a pack like this before that has that formed bottom. It's very cool. It works well. When it comes to the harness system it's what you expect. Just terrific quality added extremely comfortable. You have load lifters sternum strap with emergency whistle. You have a very large padded waist belt with one pocket on the right-hand side. It's like I left something in it from my last trip. All the typical adjustments that you would expect. You can also pull the load of the pack closer to the hip belt very nice now.

There are a couple things I would like to point out. That really just show of the type of quality, the type of thinking that went into this pack. Check out this d-ring right here. Metal very solid, very sturdy. Let's fold this back here. Now check this out. You have one of the compression strap buckles and you see this. You can take this out and adjust it. You can move it up, you can move it down any place that you need to. That is incredibly smart. That is a very good feature. Having fixed compression straps really limit the way that you can load your pack, the way that you hunker it down. So being able to move those up and down really opens up a lot of doors for the way that you can hunker down your load and get it comfortable.

Alright here it is i just opened up my. Fjällräven Kafka. 85 backpack it's black super excited. About this have been a big fan of fjällräven here and products for a long. Time they make this polymer stuff just. Barely open this and this is what you. Can expect everything's all wrapped up nice and tight felt wow this looks great. Everything looks awesome tons of straps. Quality of the birch wood supports instead of aluminum you've got these. Little rugs in here for compression hung up you can see these they run right here they're just. Thin but they run all the way down this way you'll need two straps to cinch down. The sides you compress it all really well. Nice big heavy-duty buckles very strong. The lid comes off which is really neat because you can actually turn this into. Like a fanny pack or a shoulder strap or. Straps in here that pull out you can. Strap them together and just take up with that or you can actually clip this. Onto these straps and wear on your chest. As you're backpacking yeah really cool. Stuff so we've got a little pocket in. The lid here not very big enough for. A wallet or a keys or something. You've got draw cords with the pull. Tighten things down these look like well. More or less waterproof zippers ykk. Zippers I've got a rain cover you're. Guessing that's blue cool you ever run. Into inclement weather. That's a pretty decent-sized lid pocket. And you've got another one that oh well. That goes all the way down this thing is. Big you could put a bunch of stuff in. Here we've pursued kids wallets cellphones and it does look perhaps this. One isn't quite waterproof this top one looks a little more so but wow and then. You've got the side mesh. Pockets and here pretty good size i mean. These are pretty cool these little side. Pockets for your nalgene bottle now you can actually open this up and pass your. Nalgene bottle through here while you're walking cinch this up if you need to. Maybe but that way you don't have to stop and take your pack off to reach into something i don't know if everybody. Has to do that I've had packs where I've had to do that another big pocket over here big mesh. Pocket to drip through you got another. Closed pocket over here man this thing. Just sounds like it's bulletproof i. Heard a lot of reviews that this thing was pretty heavy it doesn't seem that heavy to me compared to my other backpacks we've got. This a big pocket down here something. Kind of cool that I've experienced in the past is when you have wet gear and. You want to dry it out it's really hard to put it in your backpack, but they've. Actually if y'all draven has actually come up with the system here that you roll this up snap it shut and then you. Can put use this as a separate storage or you can actually put your wet swimsuit or towels or chocos or whatever. You've got in here in this little area it's not going to get anything else wet keep hiking and it can dry as you're. Going which is pretty cool i really like. That or you can just use it as a separate for clothes or whatever you keep it zipped up again this thing is, so we're. In hebrew utah and it's pretty cold i just barely brought this enough the porks it's a little bit frozen still. Yeah feels pretty heavy-duty though it. Doesn't feel like anything will break on this thing no let's see here so this is. Another cool feature that i really thought was interesting as i was doing. My research to purchase this online you can load this thing from the top or you. Can actually load it from the side which. Is really convenient it's got this big bladder I'm sure this at home at least two. And a half liters of water got a hook. For your bag we pass for your hydration. Pose through here and then you do have. Little retainer right here for it to. Hold your strap through your hose. Last thing is pretty sweet like i was. Saying before you do have these little rods inside here that help compress the. Pack so you don't need so many straps going across you only have strap here and a strap here pull with these rods that keep it rigid they'll just suck the whole thing down keep it really closes to your back which is really comfortable and it's a lot easier to carry our loads. It's not wobbling all around the place. So then i guess you've got this little. Uh snow closure whatever you call it out. Your stuff in close it down i guess if. The lid is on here to be easier to close. The lid huh just close this baby up. That's pretty sweet because all these. Guys up let's see or is that other strap. So this is pretty high up under the lid which is good keep it out-of-the-way wow. This has got little loops and straps all. Over the place i understand these are. Actually little straps for poles. Trekking poles whatever you can actually put additional gear in here tighten this. Stuff down very well-thought-out and. Designed this is actually you can adjust this there's a little tab right this is. A just pull that up and you can slide. This up I'm sure how do you guys are learning. With me and slide it up you've got a really long torso or down put that down. Then i understand you can actually. Adjust the width of your shoulder straps. Got this little owners in the photo thing put your contact information in. There of course your belt system is. Pretty standard however I've never had a. Belt that pulls out instead of back so. That's kind of different kind of cool pretty cool anyway I've heard tons of. Great reviews on this pack really excited to use it sounds like it's gonna be about the most comfortable pack you can buy just because it can hold so much equipment. Very securely and you can adjust it so. Well but anyway there you go hope you. Liked the video.

I'm going to be reviewing the Fjallraven Kajka 75-liters backpack. It's pretty hard to review a pack like this in a short amount of time because there's so many features. But I'm going to do my best.

My first use with this thing was 7 days in the mountains of Norway. It's amazing. I love it. One of the things right off the bat that I'll point out. That's amazing compared to other packs is that you can take. You can peer into the pack from either side. So these buckles back here it's so convenient depending on where you're standing to be able to open it and not have to you know undo a bunch of straps etc.

Another thing that this thing can do. You can pull it off completely and kind of make it like a kangaroo pack. It snaps on to the front of the straps. Here you can have it hanging on the front I thought that might be super useful for like photography equipment. I didn't end up using it but I'm sure you can find a pretty good use for that. This thing super cool.

The fabric on this bag is really durable. It's really nice. I'm glad I got this one over then Abisko. It's a little bit heavier but the carrying system that comes with this bag is amazing. Its super easy to adjust it. You just literally pull this thing up and down so whatever height you want. If your back's killing you can put it really high and put it really low whatever feels good for that day. So that's frickin cool.

I really like that one of these pockets is mesh on the belt. You can find it greasy gooey stuff, you can leave it in there whereas. If you have something like electronic or something that you might want to hold on to more carefully put on the other side.

The waist belt is phenomenal better than any other backpack I've ever owned. It's so easy to adjust and I think part of the reason is that these adjustable things are actually coming from the side over here as opposed to from the middle. So the way that this bag grips you when you pull it tight feels so good on your waist. I didn't have any chafing on my shoulders or my waist anywhere and it was a very strenuous trip. It felt so good another thing that's cool about the carrying system is that. There're these snaps back here. I don't know if you can really see it but four snaps. So you can adjust the actual width of the shoulder straps. So if you're a bigger guy you can make it bigger. You're skinnier guy or a woman you can make it closer to the middle so it fits great. I guess they use bamboo here. I don't know why but I guess that's for the lightness. Pretty cool. These side pockets puff out like cargo pants you can really load them up I think a lot of the 75 liters is actually found in the side pockets.

It's really nice to have the ability to open the entire pack from the front. You can see everything just exactly where it lays. I was never more organized in my life than when I started using this pack because I had a specific place for everything new exactly where all my stuff was at all times. It was like of kind of cool to not be thinking about where my stuff is ever. Just kind of memorized where you put it once and have it there granted this top pockets still cool.

When you want to find your food or something on the trail but you know when it's time to actually unpack at the end of it's so cool to be able to open it up. I will forever hate curved zippers and literally, this curved zipper is the only thing about the pack that I don't like. It's just like kind of irritating especially when you're tired or whatever in the morning. You're just trying to zip your sleeping bag up and you have to kind of wrestle with this curve. I don't know how they'll ever get around that but that's the only thing that I don't really like.

They say that this mesh area is for like airing out wet clothes but I don't know what you're supposed to do with the rest of your stuff while you're hiking with your wet clothes in here. I just kind of used it for like an extra pair of shoes or something that I'm literally not going to need till the end of the day when my sleeping bag is out. So it's kind of nice to have like another organizational pocket but other than that. I'm not sure exactly what you would use it for so that was fairly quick.

I think I showed you all the main features. Um these uh yeah that's annoying these here. I think of for trekking poles and I did use them for my pole so that was cool. And again the bag you know when you got it all compressed it doesn't look too insanely big but you can pack the hell out of it and make it really tall. But again I was so organized with this bag.

Really happy with it the fabric. Super durable. I think after a few years of use. It's going to look even better. Once this fabric kind of like get some texture and some life into it but super impressed with the carrying system. It was amazing. It was a very hard trip. I was totally out of shape going you know up and down really intense terrain and I didn't feel it at all. I would have been dead in any other pack. So this is an amazing bag.

Today I'm rocking the North Face woman's Banshee 50. This pack is a 50-liter capacity pack, fully featured. Ideal for your weekend trips anywhere from 1 to 3 nights maybe even longer.

Harness going to make it really comfortable with bigger loads and a vertical channel on the back panel it's going to provide some good ventilation and really with this tariff 50 pack line. Comfort and user-friendliness are really the big standout feature with these bags. These north face tara packs been totally. Updated for the 2014 season they're a little more slimmed down a little more lightweight than the previous tara packs really done with the minimalist minded. Backpacker in mind you can see there's not a lot of straps or buckles on the outside really everything you need. Nothing you don't so you get into some overgrown terrain doing some bushwhacking not going to have a lot of snags which is pretty cool so overall these north face tara packs just really great no fuss bags great for all your. Backpack with my dogs, so we've got about the whole summers with the you silence guys so I've got a lot to report nevada. Also available in 65 is in my opinion. One heck of a good backpack for right under $200 i can find on sale sometimes too so women's is such a good backpack well first off the suspension system is. Amazing it's called a thief it so the whole hip belt and back is adjustable. They just contours to your back to help you carry the load up mountains from a trail very low I've got probably. Thirty pounds back here carry it no problem so I'll show you how that system works or what it looks like. Essentially it's like a trampoline on. Your back so see that right there so what it does is it keeps the backpack itself off your back so the sweat off. Your back and you're gonna sweat in the trail will help wick out and not not. Ruin your day so good feature to have other companies have been using it for years and it's a very good feature so the padding on the. Hip belt as well as a lumbar significant. Lumbar first it was almost obtrusive and. Then couple miles into a trail that mold. It really nice a surprise it's probably the most significant lumbar i felt in my backpack yep so this right here is worth. It alone and then you get the auto fit translate suspension genius so the other. Selling point a features that i think are impressive is it organizational. Pockets I'm pretty organized can a guy my wife might disagree but i think i am and these pockets or legit though. Zippers are smooth as butter so you can put your snacks myself as human over here the dog food don't mix those. Up if you got wet garments like say a. Rain jacket stick it into this kangaroo. Pouch right here that expands as much as you need to so really great if you got some wet shoes wet pants i don't know a wet tarp just jam it in their go hike. Hopefully a dry hump let me get some next camp as well as these elasticized. Pockets on the outside you can easily stick your water bottle you like to that. Right there in the pocket so other than that it's pretty much a backpack okay nothing new here but the main pocket. Right here where you a jam your tent or tarp super has hidden bag law stuff in. Here but the top pipe is pretty cool. Again smooth is flutter zippers big. Pocket sizable pocket and inside this pocket is a mesh of zippered pocket as well so again you get that. Organizational pockets to side pockets the main pocket making sure the main park is nothing special just a pocket for your gear there is a slot here though for your reservoir and there is that there is a port for your hydration. Tube i have too lazy to put my two through there but if there is a port so. All in all this is one heck of a great.
