Hey what’s up this is arachnid here over. The course of this channel I’ve covered quite a few different outerwear brands and jackets as well but until now have been missing one of the biggest players in the game at least as far as jackets are concerned and that is of the north face so this week I’m changing that with this in the background the north face 1919. Mountain jacket this came out this season’s a brand-new piece north face released quite a few different off-white and blue colored jackets i think they had some pants as well actually so i decided to pick up with the what i consider to be the flagship piece of the. Mountain jacket it’s the most fully featured it’s the highest performance on and 330 pounds which is maybe $380. It’s also one of the most expensive jackets in the collection so let’s take a little look at it see if it’s worth that price see what kind of features you get with the 1919 north face mountain. Jacket this one here is a size m I’d say it fits pretty similarly to a lot of other jackets which is a little bit on the roomy side so normally i would wear a size l in t-shirts and jumpers and. Stuff i took an n and this one is a little bit snug on the shoulder so if you’ve got particularly broad shoulders but i would say definitely stick with your standard t-shirt and jumper size. But if not you could go down for a little bit of a slimmer fit just for reference I’m about six foot one six four two with approximately thirty-eight inches jest the north face is a super pervasive brand and one of the few that can be worn by pretty much everyone on one side of the spectrum you’ve got the more height beastie side of things you’ve got those supreme co.labs you’ve. Got those old rare collectible vintage north face jackets as well and then you’ve got those people that are just interested in outdoor performance and people that maybe is’t even interested in fashion at all, but they just want something to keep them dry and warm so the general design of this with those black accents going on in various points on the coat and that classic north face logo to the chest is gonna be something that you likely will have seen a lot of times before and something that you probably will see almost every time you. Step half the house in winter i couldn’t resist the off-white coloring on this one i think it looks really nice with those black accents and it makes it look a little bit different to your average north face jacket that you see on streets because most people do tend to opt for a plain black or a generally. Dark-colored version and i think it is quite rare for north face to release jackets in this color in the first place so that does help it stands out from the. Multitude of north face jackets that you’re likely to see you walking around the color isn’t the only difference between the 1990 mountain jacket and one of the jackets that you might commonly see how on the streets like i think the high event is one of the most popular ones out there at the moment for starters it definitely looks bulkier this is partly down to the fleece lining on the inside which is very nice and soft and I’ll come to the inside a little bit later but it certainly does have some noticeable bulk to it you’ll also notice that the neck comes up way higher than most north face jackets wouldn’t do this one covers your entire mouth so pretty good for weather protection and i think it looks pretty good as well there’s also these toggles that come up on the side here which i think give it a cool sort of alpine ooh performance by about a really local look at that and you can use them of course they’re not just decorative you can cinch in the neck even more to give you a little bit of extra protection the hood is very storm appropriate and again contributes to that heavy-duty high performance look again it’s got some cool straps on the side which i think look really good break up that off-white color a little bit and you can use that to pull in the hood further in case you do really want to go kind of maximum face protection rather than just relying on a weatherproof zip you’ve got physical material covering it so in terms of guaranteed weather and rain resistance this is certainly going to be the best option the downside of this though is that the poppers are really pretty stiff they’re quite hard to get them to snap shut so it takes quite a bit longer to get into this jacket compared to anything else and if you decide not to do it you can’t really be bothered then they kind of look a bit weird because they tend to flap open a little bit and it ruins that clean look so it’s definitely not a jacket that you want to be taking on and off the whole time around so you’re gonna have a nightmare with those poppers but once you do you’re finally managed to get them on then they certainly do the trick you’ll also notice the pockets on the outside there’re two zips pockets again covered by a material flap both of these. Are quite high up, so they’re a little bit weird at first if you just like putting your hands and them for comfort but i presume the reason like many of the things on this jacket is for performance having them higher up like that it means they’re gonna be closer to your sort of core area so i think it’s actually gonna do a better of keeping your hands warm than if they were super lowdown i also personally find that if I’m carrying things in a jacket it tends to be better having a higher are broad than lower down so that’s a potential other reason that they’ve opted for these high pockets they do have a little fleece inside though so at least they’re nice and comfy so visually there’s quite a lot of going on this jacket most of which does translate to performance features but there’s a few other bits as well which you might not necessarily notice at first glance the cuffs are. Actually super wide if you totally undo them they’re absolutely massive I’m not quite sure the reason for that but you get quite a lot of options in terms of how tight or how loose you want it so for very cold conditions you can totally close these up and then kind of fold the material over or if it’s really hot you want to lose some heat you can totally open them up and then you get nice breezy arms on the topic of breeze there are some pretty big vents underneath the arms so if you do find yourself getting a bit hot in this you can unzip the whole of those and lessen aaron these aren’t just mesh events these actually totally open up so. They’re going to be pretty effective allowing you to lose heat on the other side of the spectrum in terms of warmth the inside is fleece lined it’s quite a light fleece but it’s quite comfy nonetheless so it’s going to give you a little extra bit of warmth this is by no means an insulated jacket but certainly warmer than just a shell there’s also a zip which runs on the inside of both sides of this jacket and that is because there’s a few different north face and gore-tex products which you can zip onto. The inside of this so if you’re gonna go out and it’s gonna be extra cold you can pick up something like this and then just a zip it in this is a nice alternative to something like the architects jacket but i looked at last week obviously it’s gonna be a little bit less flexible because it’s designed to work specifically with one jacket in your collection but of course you can unzip and zip it and turn this into a bit of a two-in-one multi season jacket there’re three pockets on the inside so this jackets pretty good for secure storage or things that you don’t need to get to you too often not too much to say about these really two of them the ones on the bottom are pretty big and there’s a smaller one up at the top which is probably a good kind of phone size perhaps most importantly they open something that i haven’t really mentioned yet is that this is a full fat. 100% no holds barred gore-tex three layer jackets which means that you’re going to get absolutely insane water resistance very good breath ability as well so for pure water-resistant this track is going to be pretty much unbeatable gortex of course is very much a premium fabric so you’re not gonna find it on everything so it’s pretty good that they’ve decided to include it a jacket of this price point for reference the only other gore-tex jacket i have is the acg alpine jacket and that run me a total of five hundred pounds yes it is possible to get a gore-tex jacket cheaper than this however those generally are pure shells. With almost no features whatsoever so i feel like this jacket offers a lot almost all of its features are for temperature control either giving you the option of losing heat if you want to or keeping heat in if you need it. Combined with a gore-tex fabric this makes the mountain jacket an excellent piece of clothing for wearing over long periods of time or where you feel like the temperature may go up and down or if you just suspect that it’s gonna get very cold i think this jacket looks really nice the only potential concern is in similarity to so many other north face jackets and the fact that you are gonna see people walking around with other north face jackets that are not dissimilar to this one the key though of. Course is in that really nice coloring which i think is a little bit on the unusual side and all those performance. Features and that high neckline which is not something that you’re gonna see on most people walking around and because this style of jacket is very commonly seen and yet it is a little bit different to most of those jackets i think that gives it quite a lot of versatility no one’s gonna bat an eye if. You walk out of a house wearing this not in some crazy tech ninja fit you just throw it on over normal clothes but then at the same time that high neckline that doubles it the main to kind of look based features for me those two things definitely lend themselves to working those into a more tech wear or tech and. Injury type outfit and while 330 pounds. Might be quite expensive for a north face jacket i do think that the features. And the performance that this offers certainly does justify that price and if. You compare it to jackets buy a lot of. Tech wear brands this does actually represent pretty good value for money as. This is the outdoor research men’s furrow see jack –it this is one of the standout soft shell jackets that I’ve gotten my hands on it’s light pack able. And so functional for so many different adventures you can take this thing up on your favorite summer alpine climb or wear it casually in the big city it’s. Durable stylish functional and even. Reasonable on the wallet the furrow sea jacket is made with a 90/10 eur stretch woven nylon spandex blend this fabric is. So durable and stretchy even if it’s a. Tight fit it moves with you and doesn’t restrict you at all the face fabric has excellent abrasion resistance that’s intended for climbers who scrape up big. Okay so this is going to be a review on. The outdoor research verrocchio jacket. Or hoodie seen it called both i just. Recently did a review on the condor. Summit soft shell and in that video i. Said that i had some other jackets that. In my opinion were better that were at. Least i got them for a realm same price some of them cheaper and this is one of them um first off comparing this to the. Condor isn’t totally fair because this. Is what they call a lightweight soft shell it doesn’t have any insulation value it doesn’t have it has a it. Doesn’t have any fleece lining um you. Don’t get any insulation from this. Just blocks moderate amounts of rain and. Wind that’s pretty much all it’s used for so in its own way it does insulate. You because it’s protecting you from those things that can make you cold so. First off i just want to say that are comparing these two it’s not totally. Fair but um with that being said we can. Move on oh this has the pockets and a. Slightly different location they’re down. Here it’s more standard to me i like. That more than having them up here an. Advantage of having them up here is if you have a backpack on with a waist belt sometimes it’s hard to get into these pockets so you have them here but for. Just everyday this is more natural for. Many people it has a kind of the same. Pocket here for a cell phone gps ipod. Whatever one thing you know is this version that. I have doesn’t have a hood the only reason why is because i tend to wear a hat of some sort instead of a hood and. The hood at least for me just kind of. Gets in the way if this was a full-on rain parka rain jacket of course I’d want to hood but that’s not what this is oh the zipper on this is a this one is. Also a ykk it only has one pole or. Whatever you want to call it but um you. Have a little bit of resistance starting. Off but it is a lot better than the. Condor it’s how a zipper should be um. It just has you know outdoor research. There nothing on this side the difference between this and the condor is 100% polyester. This is nylon and spandex majority nylon. With some spandex thrown in so it does have a little bit more stretch than the. Convoy oh but you know again it has. These mesh pockets right here. I like these more because you can stick. The corresponding glove in each side um. I actually reverse it so to grab my. Right glove i grab it on the left side like that um you can stick a. Beanie in there and then when you zip it off it doesn’t bulge out that much so. That’s one advantage i like this over. The condor um and again it has the. Where were they please. There they has the shock cord loop it. Just has a single one so you can cinch. It up okay i never really do that but. Some people like to do that and then. This one it rides up a little bit as well. When you raise your hands but it could be because this is a slightly bigger fit. It doesn’t write up as much in. Compare it to the condor um this is a to. Excel as opposed to an excel for that. One of the things i like about this. Is it doesn’t look like a jacket it almost looks like a button-up like I’m just a button-up shirt or whatever or a. Zip up it i should call it um taking it. Off the biggest difference. Between these two is like i said in the. Start this doesn’t have any insulation. Visit all this is as a shelf that. Vantage is packing this in a pack or. Anything packs down to slate about the. Size of a grapefruit this is the condor. So this packs down to this big this. Packs down to that big so you can see. This one a lot of lighter and it packs down. A lot smaller than this one but this one. Is it’s insulated slightly insulated but. Insulated nonetheless this one is not. But the advantage to that is you can use. This as a layering piece so you can wear other shirts like this is just a. Icebreaker wool hoody as your insulation. And then use your jacket as a shell but. Like i said in the beginning it’s not a totally fair comparison because they’re. Two different things that one’s insulated this one is not this is almost. Like a glorified what a horrified windbreaker what the advantage is it’s. Stretchy the other thing on camera might. Not sound loud or it might sound loud. Sorry but it’s not swishy like a lot of. The just a hundred percent nylon. Windbreakers or wind shirts or rain jackets for that matter so that can be an advantage if you’re out in the woods. And you don’t want to sound like a you know a plastic grocery bag flying around. In the wind that can be an advantage but. This i don’t know what this retails for. I want to say in the ballpark around 150. Compared to so technically it is kind of. Double the price of that one but i was able to pick this up on sale for about fifty-nine bucks so right. Around 60 bucks so that’s why I’m comparing the two because you know that. One was 80 bucks this is 60 bucks and in. My opinion this is a better product it’s. More useful in my opinion you can toss. This in a you can toss this in the top if starts. Drizzling it’s really windy just pull this out stick it on the advantage to is. You can hike and you can do stuff in this and because it’s not insulated you won’t get all sweaty on the inside so. This is more of like an active if you’re going to be active if you want to wear this while you’re doing stuff and it’s not super cold I’d recommend this. One.

Okay guys welcome to another video in today’s video I’m going to give you a. Four year three-year review on this. Awesome jacket this jacket is made by. Outdoor research and it’s called the furrow c jacket I’ve had this jacket. Like i said i don’t know exactly when i got it i got it in like the spring four. Years ago maybe and I’ve worn this. Is probably my most used most abused. Most useful jacket you can say so this. Is a soft shell a true soft shell so what. It is its an uninsulated windbreaker. With stretch that’s pretty much what it is it’s not waterproof which is a good. Think and I’ll explain in a second real. Quick it has it doesn’t have an over use. Of pockets, it has a pocket right here. And a pocket here and a pocket here. Pretty simple i don’t like jackets with. Like pockets here here and here because all that zipper and all that extra fabric it’s like if I’m not going to use a pockets why are they there so a. Real quick one talk about sizing I’m about six foot two i have a chest. Measurement maybe like 47 48 and this is. A 2x i think it’s the biggest size they make and it fits me really well the. Sleeves are a little long which i like because when i raise my hand as you can see they don’t ride way up it. Fits me i don’t even say snug but not. Loose it fits me perfect it allows me to wear you know a t-shirt and a hoodie. Maybe a fleece underneath this on top. And at the same time i can layer on top. And it does have drawstring at the bottom. Here which i never use just not a fan of it but if you want it you can cinch this. Up and kind of puff it up so you have a way of dead air to give it insulation. Now this jacket in and of itself doesn’t. Isn’t like insulative it doesn’t really have insulation in the form of like. Puffy dead air space like it’s not wool. It’s not please it’s not primaloft it’s not down so in that regard it’s not that. Warm but what this does is it blocks out. A lot of wind which wind is especially. In cold weather but almost in any weather more for me at least more than. Temperature the wind is what can really. Get you because you can have all the insulation in the world but it winds just coming in and blowing all that heat. Out from around your body you’re going cold the fabric i don’t know the exact. Weight of it’s not super thick it’s a. 4 ounce nylon i would say when you buy. This actually this is an older version, so they’ve updated it a couple times but. Everything wanna say about this jacket I’m confident in saying that the newer versions are just as good if not better. When you get it out of box it will feel. Very chintzy it’ll feel very light it’ll. Feel very weak ok and when i first got. This i got it on sale mail-order so i. Didn’t have a chance to try it on during the feel of fabric and when i first got. It oh i would say i was disappointed i was surprised at how lightweight it was. But let me tell you I’ve put this. Through first off this isn’t a work. Jacket with that being said I’ve worn it. As a work jacket I’ve done countless home repair. Projects countless you know outdoor jobs. Countless camping trips countless hiking. Trips fishing trips you name it and this. Has been there and it’s not showing any. Signs of we’re to the point of I’m kind. Of getting a little concerned because how could a fabric this thin this light. Just be so durable now is it possible. You could snag this and tear it i. Actually see no i had that concern. Because that’s why i don’t like lightweight fabrics because at least what i do branches and stuff getting caught on it and tearing it but this. Because it has that stretch and it’s a. Smooth fabric that isn’t doesn’t have a. Lot of snag points on it I’ve snagged. This before sort of and it just rubs off. Now i was before the video i was inspecting this jacket to see if there are any points of where and there’s some. Staining oil stains sap stains tar. Stains maybe some dirt stains so overall. This thing I’m going to coin it as. Apocalypse proof now that gone through the apocalypse with this but i would be totally more than confident to go. Through the apocalypse with this would be a great companion especially. For if you’d need to debug out or if. Some big long-term event happened and you needed to do work outside this thing. Is kind of protective layer like it. Protects your skin think of it as. Like a work glove but at the same time it offers wind protection now i want to. Talk about waterproof so this in a gore-tex this isn’t waterproof and it’s not claimed to be waterproof it’s claimed to be water resistant now i have. Found this is not water resistant whatsoever when i first got it actually maybe a little bit maybe it had a teflon. Coating there a uh yeah teflon i think. Through sustaining to resist water but this will readily. Soak water okay so I’m not claiming this. Is a lot of proof um this has gone through a wash i don’t fifty times or something like that so whatever water proofing was on here is washed off so it’s not. Waterproof and it will readily absorb water and then also because it’s not. That swishing material it’s kind of. Rougher material kind of canvas type. Material water wool won’t as. Easily run off of this but the main so. If I’m working outside in the rain I’ve. Tried gore-tex like gore-tex rain jacket and you just build up so much heat from. Working that you end up letting out from. Your sweat so I’ve made that sacrifice. It’s like you can either wet up from your sweat or you can wet out from water from the rain now working in this why. I’m calling this a piece of like work wear is because i can do anything and i can pretty much wear this in all seasons and not be uncomfortable but i can be. Doing whatever and because the fit because the sleeves aren’t super baggy. It’s not getting in the way how i tend to wear this actually is i. Pull the sleeves up and me personally if. I was designing like any work soft shell it actually gets a t-shirt variety because whenever I’m doing like actual work i have the sleeves pulled up so one. Think and maybe the neighbor versions have this probably not one thing I’d like to see is one of those buttons here like on a plaid button-up so you could. Roll it up and button it so you could. Take it on and off and the sleeves stay up now one thing i do like though which. Kind of goes against that is it doesn’t have buttons it doesn’t have zippers it doesn’t have like velcro around the. Sleeves especially in the wintertime. Velcro would just collect snow so i like. How clean the cuffs are moving to the. Lane another reason i like this is. Because it fits me well it’s not super. Baggy it fits me well but it’s long now. Then again the newer versions this is. Like a 2012-2013 design the newer. Versions might be cut different keep that in mind but the reason i like this one specifically is its long length so. It’s not overly long as you can see you. Now it goes maybe eight inches past my. Waist well it does not have pit zips the. Newer versions might with that being. Said with this type of fabric with this type of jacket i never found the need for pit zips because sometimes i wear this with a t-shirt and a problem i found with jackets with pit zips if you only have a t-shirt or tank top underneath is that zipper wear is on the inside of your arm. And it can cause discomfort so maybe. That’s why they didn’t include offensive but frankly this breathes so well you. Don’t need a pizza what a pizza is real quick is its pretty much as if you’re opening by your armpits which is pretty much your main source of perspiration air where you’re going to be sweating from and what i found is I’ve worn. This in temperatures from 70 degrees. Eighty degrees when i need something. Maybe working around spruce trees and i don’t want my forearms irritated but. I’ve worn this in 70 degree whether it’s not uncomfortable it’s just a t-shirt underneath and then i also wear this. Hiking cold-weather hiking I’ll wear. This down to zero degrees with a puffy. Or with a hoodie underneath and the only. Reason wearing this again is to block from that windchill effect overall i. Don’t want this to be a longer view frankly i just want it to be straight to the point this jacket long story short if you’re looking for a soft shell jacket that’s lightweight compact our lightweight packs down. Really small is very comfortable in a wide range of weather and is super. Durable and also really easy to work in. And not cumbersome and a host of other. Reasons that i can’t think of off the top of my head this is the jacket for you this is a true soft shop i have had other soft-shells in the past that are really thick very stiff do you just feel. Awkward and they’re not that warm and. They don’t provide that much wind blocking ability no this doesn’t offer. The best wind block ability there’s a. There’s a fine line between berthe. Readability and wind proof so if you. Have something 100% wind resistant it’s not going to agree that well if you have something 100 shot waterproof it’s not going to breathe whatsoever so this is a. You sacrifice a little wind blocking capabilities for a very breathable. Jacket so yeah long story short they. Have newer versions out and i would feel. Confident in recommending those even though i haven’t tried them I’m also going to leave with a link to get his tactical he has liked one at least one maybe two videos talking about this exact jacket and i pretty much can echo. Everything he said this is like my go-to. Jacket for a lot of stuff again it’s not. Insulated it’s not a like winter jacket. But it’s a nice layering piece and very. Comfortable it fits very well for all you found this helpful useful if you. Many reasons i think probably because not only does it do its job and do. Extremely well i wick away moisture yeah. It’s also got other advantages as well. But why a base layers say over a t-shirt. Which is what a lot of people out their work where most people in the military. Would have been in situations where they’ve been working out, or they’ve been either on operations or exercise where. Their t-shirts become drenched in sweat. Not really a problem until the end of the day when you start to cool down and your t-shirt doesn’t dry out that’s the. Reason why base layers work well because. At the end of the day they wick away moisture leaving you dry and comfortable. This particular garment the eclipse. Hooded tee from mountain equipment a brand is synonymous with quality okay as. Many features first of all it’s got flat. Looking seams that means that the garment itself is not going to rub you up against the wrong way it’s made of a techno stretch fleece. From a company called bob bergdahl i. Round underneath your chin and over your. Nose the thing i like about this. Particular garment is that it keeps your extremities warm so if you’re out in norway or in the middle of winter you can it basically bring the chin guard up. Bring down the hood and now you’re. Covering up your extremities the tip to your ears and your nose the hood itself. Is unobtrusive it doesn’t get in the way. And it can even be top to work so you. Can see from that it’s an unobtrusive hood but should you be non. Tackle semi tactical it’s there it’s an. Option for you to use also got thumb. Loops on the ends of your sleeves the. Reason why i like thumb loops is that when you’re putting on your gloves you can actually slide your gloves on and you and your sleeve doesn’t disappear at. Your wrist house it keeps things comfortable it could also bring the. Ends of the sleeves down over your knuckles so basically they’re almost starting to act as hand warmers the. Other thing about the garment and it’s all about attention to detail is you will notice that the garment is cut very. Long a lot of you would have been used to basically having t-shirts and other base layers ruching up behind them with it being carrying bergen’s this one won’t do that because it’s going on as well. Note that it seemed free around the waist area so when you’re putting the buckles of your waist belt on it’s not. Going to be rubbing you up the wrong way. Finally, it’s got blue it’s blue sign. Approved what does this mean well in a. Nutshell it ain’t gonna smell when it’s. Sweaty so that in itself is worth. Hi everyone today I’m taking a look at. The battle equipment eclipse hooded zip-t so lightweight fleece mid layer. Stroke base layer i tend to use it as a. Lightweight mid layer rather a base layer basically because the fit isn’t really skin tight so i can fit a. Close-fitting base layer underneath and use this as a lighter weight mid layer. Maybe underneath a thicker mid layer or. If it’s not that could then just as a. Standalone mid layer it’s made from. Ponte auto tech no stretch fleece which is a lightweight gridded fleece material. So on the inside the fleecy sections are. Cut into a grid pattern i really like. Gridded pieces the increased surface. Area of the grid helps trap more heat so. You get a better warmth to weight ratio before the fleece also helps with. Readability against surface area it’s. More surface area to transport the moisture away from you away from your body and wicks well it is not wind. Resistant at all is there’s a one downside compared to maybe a traditional fleece or a slightly hard face to face. The grids obviously leave big gaps. Which the wind just comes right through so bad to use underneath something if. It’s windy there are two weights of fleece used in this top the gray. Sections under the arms down the sides. Around the bottom hem all the way around. And the back of the neck. And around the mouth piece are all a. Lighter weight than the red sections which is everywhere else so you’ve got a zoned sort of climate control where you. Really do expect to be a bit more sweaty and the arms fall where you want slightly lower profile around the lower hem or around the wrists you’ve got a. Thinner lighter fleece the sleeves on. This is long very long as you can see i. Have really long arms i normally find. Sleeves too short these are really nice and long the integrated thumb loops work. Well they’re really comfortable there’s plenty of length that you’re not putting. On any part of the sleeve to put them on. But if you don’t want to use them then it sits very nicely and you can move really easily very stretchy material as. Well you have one zipped chest pocket. Quite small enough space for a mobile phone a couple of snack bars or something and a deep zip past it. Preventing and just make it be easier to. Get on and off the real masterpiece of. This top is the hood which is pretty. Unique in that it’s a really close-fitting hood so will fit really nicely. Under a helmet or under a hat or anything give some light warmth as well. And you also have a balaclava style. Front piece which is you zip the main. Zip all the way up you’ll see it tapers off to an angle so that it’s not in line. With your mouth it’s out of the way and if you get that all the way up to the. Top you can get a balaclava complete bal. Collar style like that and you can if. You tuck the sides of the hood in it gives a really close fit so that it’s barely any of your face showing well you. Can drop it down and really easy to move. Due to the way it’s constructed the. Mouthpiece is stitched slightly back. From the end of the hood so it’s almost hinged by there so if it was connected. To the front of the hood you wouldn’t be able to do this you’d have to unzip it, so they’ve done been really clever and how they’ve designed that so that really. Easy to use and you can also drop the. Hood back easily without unzipping it. Have the mouth up hood down really no. Problems using that really easy to use innovative i really like it you have a. Small beard guard or chin guard at the top of the zip as well obviously for more comfort the material on the. Balaclava part is really easy to speak. Through and breathe through because it is the thinner gray material although. It’s not not really wind resistant at. All like i said before so you know. They’ll give you some warmth and maybe. Cut a tiny bit of wind out but if it’s a. Really biting windy you’re gonna want something a bit more substantial around. Your face to keep the window it’s cut. Quite long which you can’t see but it comes down well past my hips which is. Nice that you don’t have it riding up at all when you move and it’s really low. Profile so it’s not obtrusive underneath. Trousers or anything i really like this top it’s versatile it uses some really. Great fabrics fits really well comfy. Uses some really great innovative features especially around the hood if. Well hey everybody i just stopped for lunch so I’m gonna get some water on the. Boil and then we’re gonna talk about the black diamond hot forge jacket I’ve just. Got a bunch of small twigs I’m gonna put. In there and on my way in i collected a. Bunch of this cedar bark just gonna use about half of it there. Rough it up a little bit things like a. Jet engine. Already boiling in about four minutes with just that much wood just a couple. Chunks and you’re good. So whenever i wear a new coat in one of. My videos you guys always ask what code is that so today we’re gonna look at this one this is the black diamond hot forged jacket now i believe they make this jacket for 2016 in four different versions you can get it in a non hooded version like I’m wearing a hooded version you can also get it in a down blend or in all down i went for the down. Blend because it is lighter weight and more pack able now with a jacket that’s. This pack able something that i can shed as an actual layer i didn’t go with the hood i like to sometimes throw a jacket on over it if it’s really cold i can wear this jacket down to about maybe 20 25 degrees with something as small as just a t-shirt or in this case just a long-sleeve shirt underneath and I’m quite warm today the temperatures right around 30 degrees if it got any warmer i could just shed this layer off throw it in my pack very easily and continue on. Generally the coat that i would throw over this would have a hood so it doesn’t bother me not to have a hood in this style jacket the black diamond hot forged jacket comes at a bare minimum weight it only weighs 13 ounces and you. Get maximum insulation value it’s got a pertex quantum shell with a dwr coating I’ve worn this in the heavy wet snow. I’ve worn it in the rain and it does shed the water quite well and does dry. Relatively fast the jackets got to fleece lined pockets on the side very. Large for things like keys phone they do zip which is nice you can zipper in your. Contents to keep them from falling out when you’re hiking for example is this. Jacket also has a nice pocket here something that you could throw maybe a compass a snack bar in or your keys your phone something like that what i really like about that pocket up front is that. It rides below the sternum strap so when you’re wearing a backpack your sternum strap goes right about here and you could still access that pocket that’s a problem on some other jackets that I’ve tried where it’s up a little bit higher and the sternum strap gets in the way you have to unstrap and access the pocket that was another thing i really like about this jacket is that the collar area is a felt line so that when. You zip it up it doesn’t scratch your. Face or anything like that it’s very comfortable to wear even when you have it zipped all the way up it’s got very nice cuffs on it they are elastic, so they fit right down around your hands if you wear a glove you can simply just stretch that over the glove and you don’t get the gloves overlapping with the coat it’s very comfortable right down into the sleeves inside each pocket. There’s a little tab that you can pull and you can shorten the short cord with. This cord lock here and what that does is it basically just draws in the bottom. Of the coat i leave it wide open and i find that it’s got a great form-fitting shape without having to mess with it on. The inside on both sides you do have a large dump style pocket there for stashing more things and then you have a single ykk zip very easy to zip and it. Is seam sealing here so that it does come together when you zip up the jacket absolutely no wind gets through this coat and it maintains its warmth when it’s hugged right against your body the best feature of this coat is that it’s really lightweight and really small. But still packs a lot of warmth as you. Can see you can take it off and you can stuff this thing right down too almost. Nothing take up takes up no room in your pack if. You put it in a dry bag you can even get it a lot smaller but that’s great it’s. Ash edible layer that’s actually quiet. Warm and can actually be worn on its own now this jacket is a down blend so it. Has 70% goose down in it and then 30% primal opt fibers which gives you good. Durability it maintains its warmth when. Wet and it also gives you that super light capability of being able to pack it down and be very minimal and when. You’re wearing it this is a great jacket for hikers backpackers even camping or. Even people like me that just go out in the woods everyday on a day hike i can wear it even when the temperatures are very cold and don’t have to worry about getting it wet and i stay warm all day. With just a t-shirt on the inside now. Of course, you could layer up on the inside and take this coat even warmer again in the really cold i throw a jacket on over it works great for when your hammock camping you can take this off you can maybe wrap it around your head you can wrap it around your feet and give those areas where it’s needed a little bit extra warmth they also sent along one of their balaclavas this thing is awesome it’s very lightweight it’s made out of a very comfortable material i use something like this when i am at camp give my head and face a little bit extra warmth need it the balaclava can also be worn several ways including just like this as a neck gaiter so it’s very versatile with this stretchy material alright guys so hope you’ve enjoyed taking a look at the black diamond hat for jacket awesome jacket from black diamond I’m gonna leave a link below to their website where you can check out this jacket and other items that they. I’m wearing the mountain hardwear men’s super choc stone hooded jacket this is a. Super lightweight soft shell jacket that. Has a lot of going on in a very small and. Streamlined package it is built with the. Double weave soft shell material and that is a blend of nylon and elastane. Materials so you’ve got durability you’ve got reliability it’s got wind and water resistant and it’s extremely. Stretchy which is something i really like about it this jacket would be great. For cooler weather adventures climbers. Hikers backpackers anybody who need a lightweight soft shell that’s going to move with them and not inhibit their movement so it’s a really nice material in that regard it does have a upf 50. Rating so for climbers high in the. Alpine it’s going to really help protect against that harsh uv light or those uv. Rays in that thinner air so it’s really. Great for those situations overall got some really cool things going on does have pockets pretty simple pockets to zip hand pockets down at the bottom they. Are soft lined with a mesh material so. You can open those for venting if you need to, but they do provide a little bit of comfort for your hands as well a little warm too for what they are and how light this jacket is you’ve also got. A chest pocket and that chest pocket is pretty sizable for some items there and it also doubles as a stow pocket so you. Can actually reverse the jacket on itself stuff it into that chest pocket. Throw it into your pack and you’re on your way packs down really small for what you’re getting and gives you some reliable performance there as well so you can have it with you at the ready the jacket. Does have a hood and it is a pretty low profile hood meant to go under a helmet. So it can give you that wind protection that water resistance above but still go. Under a climbing helmet if you’re using it that way so overall it’s got a pretty. Nice fit and feel to it up there is an elastic closure around the outside. So you’ve got a cinch there and it’s. Kind of just built-in always there but it’s going to be comfortable it’s going to protect you in those harsher environments the jackets not fully waterproof so keep that in mind but it will provide protection from a light rain there is a dwr finish. It is going to shed some of that light moisture but in a serious downpour or even just a heavier steadier rain you’ll. Want a full waterproof shell so keep that in mind with the super choc stone put a jacket there is some elastic. Around the cuffs and something i noticed around the cuffs that would be really great for climbers myself being a climber is that mountain hardwear kind. Of eliminates the stitching in the palm area just under the wrist and what i. Could see that being great for is just simply climbing because you’re going to be rubbing that portion of the jacket it’s inevitable but lacking that. Stitching there’s less of a chance that you’ll blow out those seams and kind of ruin the jacket in that area so just a smart little aesthetic tweak to. The jacket that makes it a lot more functional as well i am wearing a large. Right now and that’s normally what i wear and mountain hardwear gear and it is fitting appropriately it is considered a semi tailored fit or an. Athletic fit so it does come a little bit more snug I’m just i just have a. T-shirt on underneath so i definitely have room for a light fleece or a synthetic insulator but overall still provides great movement and mobility because of those stretch materials so. Going to work really quickly and efficiently for him so what we have here is the super insulated jacket alright so this is when uli’s going to be sort of peaking and coming to the very top it’s obviously at 4000 meters it’s going to be cold even on a on a sunny sort of day so what he wanted was a stretch fabric jacket which we’ve got here it’s a combination of synthetic on. This side and then down on the bottom here, so he’s getting them warm thanks to. Walk around the core here and a lot of stretch and mobility around this area here you’ve got the hood adjustment on the back the reinforcement on the front. Here and it’s again helmet compatible so again you wouldn’t wear this a huge amount it would polly just as he’s launching on this power gliding or as when he was peaking and it would just give him that extra warmth, so he wasn’t getting cold on the top so this ueli. All guys wanted to do a quick review. Of the mountain hardwear ghost whisperer hooded jacket this is an 800 full power. 800 fill power down with the 7 denier. Fabric and it has the q shield which. Tennis balls tumble dry low for about 60. Minutes i guess you could do it a little. Shorter but i like to do it on low heat not to damage the fabric and end it down. As much as i can i will be adding you. No down safe detergent to my cleaning. Supplies whatever you want to call that. For all my down coats now i wound up purchasing this jacket. Because i felt that the cerium lt was. Just a little bit warm for my daily use here in new york city this jacket is. Great down to freezing and up to the. Mid-40s you don’t overheat with this as much as. The cerium lt and then app when it goes. Up and we have days when it’s 35 in the. Morning and it’s 55 by the afternoon it’s light enough eight and a half. Ounces was easier for me to. Psychologically carry in my backpack than an 11 ounce serum lt so I’ve owned. This piece since march 2017 did not. Really get a full we use out of this during 2017 bought it. When it was on sale, and we had a couple of cold days before spring had really. Arrived and was able to use it towards. The end of 2017 winter in march so i was. Really upset to see that earlier this. Winter without even a full seasons use. That the stitching was coming off so you. Could see here this was on the right sleeve right by the elbow and then as well. Now after washing it i also noticed that. There’s more stitching coming off right. Above that so it could be a quality. Control issue i have the former or. Previous version of this which is the. Yellow one i featured in one of my videos and that jacket does not show any. Signs of wear and I’ve used it i guess. Pretty close to you know i guess it’s. More of a handful of times in comparison to this but more than 1020. Times for sure the color is a bit hard. To use outside of back country use but i. Did use it for at least two seasons but. Not every day like this jacket now. Mountain hardwear has a limited or has a. Lifetime warranty but they’re going to. Require you to ship it back to the. Manufacturer other thing is if you. Attempt to fix this yourself or pay. Someone to fix it voids that warranty. So i found out that paragon sports here. In new york city mails back to the. Manufacturer so I’m actually bringing this to paragon sports today. And this is maybe the last chance i get. To review this actual jacket because. Either they repair it or they send you a. New jacket so i wanted to show you guys. The defects before i ship it back to the. Manufacturer so rei also does that for. Their customers anyway don’t want to. Dwell too much on this in terms of. Performance it’s very warm for its. Weight and the face fabric which is. Super thin has held up really well you. No i wear a backpack every day and you. Do not see any signs of wear on the. Shoulders the floor even though it. Doesn’t have an adjustment fits pretty. Well except on really windy days so. There’s also no signs of wear for. Abrasion where the backpack is so if it. Were not for the stitching coming off i. Think for the most part the materials. Used are very durable I’ve had no issues. With the zipper and you’ve got a pretty. Nice zipper garage up there. And this is a ykk i believe this is a. Ykk vislon zipper which is better than. The zipper on the cerium lt as far as. Most reviews are concerned these do not. Get stuck or snag as much as the i think. Coil zippers are they that’s what they call them just put some comments below if i butchered that anyway I’m just gonna. So the shirt I’m wearing is the mountain hardwear chiller long sleeve shirt and. This shirt is part of a larger product line up that mountain hardwear has using. A technology they call cool q0 and what. That means is they’ve taken the fabric, and they have put a cooling agent on the. Inside of it that goes next to your skin so that when you sweat it cools you off. And I’ll see if i can let you see the. Little blue circles on the fabric and. That’s what it basically looks like this. Shirt is eighty-six percent polyester it’s fourteen percent you last so. It’s very stretchy it’s very comfortable. It’s soft supple shirt weighs nine. Ounces 255 grams it’s very quick drying. Very pack able i acted up and unpacked it. Several times while i was out testing it i washed a thing in the creek wrung it. Out by hand put it back on in about 20. Minutes it was completely dry there’s. Several features that the shirt has and one of the ones that i like the best is. The caller it’s made so that you can flip the collar up and I’ll show you. Can flip the caller up like this and then it has an additional caller. Extension. So if you want to protect the back of your neck from getting sunburned you can flip the collar up and you can wear it that way that comes in very handy at. Times especially when you’re so unlike me you have short hair the shirt as well. Has venting panels underneath the arm. Right here that run all the way up to about the elbow all the way through the. Underarm and all the way down the side to right here and it’s just kind of. Little panel with a bunch of little holes if you can see there’s one. On either side right there now some. Of the other fishing shirts that i have like the columbia sportswear fishing. Shirts there vince it in the back they have a back flap you know with a little mesh back there underneath the flap those are great for fishing not so great. For backpacking because your backpack covers that vent up okay its shirt like. This is much better for backpacking because it will vent through the sides much more comfortable okay the shirt. Also has a side zip pocket right here. Pretty good size pocket it’s about 4 by 8 inches you get a snack in their Kempis. Oh gee i don’t know a bunch of things you could put in their map maybe if you folded it up pretty good would go in there and the zipper works really good and smooth okay they’ve sewn it on in a. Was that it doesn’t have a bunch of. Saggy material around it that can get caught up in the zipper okay nobody. Likes that now on the inside in the same. Place if i unbutton the shirt right here. There is another pocket it’s just a top-loading pocket right here that you. Can put stuff in again snacks oh i don’t. No pair of glasses i don’t know what. Ipod anything like that you want to. Carry. The buttons are easy to work the. Buttonholes fit the buttons really well they’re nice and tight and the buttons actually are flexible i don’t know if you can see that or not but these buttons been there they got a lot of flex to them they’re not hard and brutal. Now i really would have rather had one. Pocket on this side and one pocket on. This side on the inside is fine but i. Really wouldn’t want both pockets on the same side but that’s the way they made the shirt so i guess I’ll have to live with that also would have rather had. Lapel buttons right here because i think. That the caller just looks a little bit sloppy like that it’s not bad I’m just. One of those people i kind of like lapel. Buttons or maybe even a little velcro tab right there to hold those and that’s something that i might add in the future we’ll just have to see and the other. Feature on this or the sleeves you’ve. Probably noticed i have one sleeve down and one sleeve rolled up right the shirt. Is made with a roll up sleeve tab right. Here that has a snap on it now it’s. Important that you know it has a snap because snap is much easier work with one hand than a button okay so you just. Roll the sleeve up like that and then. You’ll find this little tab hanging out. From the bottom of the sleeve and you just grab that tab and you stick it. Right through this little loop in the shirt like that and you just fold it. Over and you button it well if i get. Then lined up you button it up there you go you snap it rather but you snap it together and there you go and then at any time of course you can unsnap it and roll the shirt back down the cuff has one button i think i would have rather had to another one right here but this is you know that’s adequate now. Well this is a medium and i usually wear a medium shirt but this one is a full. Cut and a lot of shirts like this that. Are designed to be used in the outdoors whether you’re you know fly fishing or. Something like that have a full cut and this makes the shirt more comfortable it gives you a greater range of movement see your father’s fly fishing you know i. Have great range of movement nothing’s binding nothing’s tight sure it’s very. Comfortable the hem on the bottom of this shirt i probably can’t get it in the camera frame but to him on the bottom of this shirt is just straight across it’s not tailored to be tucked in so this shirt can be worn out and it looks fine that way which is usually the way i wear a shirt when it’s hot outside you just get better ventilation without. Sustainably sourced merino wool my first thought was that wool would not make for a comfortable shirt however it is very.
