Hello, my name is Paul with golden blaze. Videos and today, I, wanted to share with you another favorite piece of gear. It’s my new hiking boots and it is the Salomon x altra, mid, GTX I did have a pair of the twos and about these well over a year ago they have over 400 miles on them. I did like them a lot they’re very comfortable. They feel like a trail runner. They do have a amid, which is an ankle cover somewhere in-between a full boot and just a regular running shoe, but ya have over 400 miles on these start to get a lot of comfortable from where they the cushions, just not as good as it used to be when they ever need.

I was looking for a new pair of boots. I did try a pair of alter Lone Peak 3 5. That’s what my hiking buddies, use and I’ll throw up a picture of those, so I didn’t really care for those that much they’re very comfortable I almost feel like a like a bedroom slipper, and when I found out on the trail. My foot slid around too much and they didn’t feel quite as comfortable as the Solomons. Also with that zero drop I noticed on inclines, I really felt in my calves.

I was starting to get used to that, but after about 30 or 40 miles, I just decided that wasn’t the boot for me. Luckily I got those at Aria and was able to return them and yeah. Just a week ago, I picked up these new Solomon’s probably have about 40 miles on them, took him out last weekend into the shining rock wilderness area, which was a great test. We had ice a lot of standing water mud, some rocks, scrambling I had to jump a couple of creeks and a man. These things are really great, very comfortable.

My foot felt very secure, and one thing they’re known for is there great tread was the Contra grip is what it’s called, and you can see the aggressiveness of the tread here and I’ll. Compare that to my other pair and it’s very similar, they’ve refined it a little bit that Hills a little bit different and the rest. The grips just a little bit more refined but found needs to be a very grippy, feels great on rocks and on scrambles no sliding around at all backpacker magazine and their gear guide.

For this year they listed the Salomon. Was it their number one pick, but they didn’t notice that it had the best grip which I really like scraping around rocks. So what’s the difference between the previous model, this is the the two, and this is the three. The latest greatest I just showed you. The tread was a little bit different and then this one only has one eyelet hook. The new one has to you know I kind of like the one hook. It was a little less, you know lacing up but anyways.

That’s that’s, probably the biggest change. This is the gore-tex boots. Where has a gore-tex liner and I got to test that out in a few creeks last weekend. It is waterproof not supposed to make your feet sweat. It’s bad, but I did notice. You know in the summer time my feet would get a little more sweaty, but you know for a year-round boot. This is a good choice. It’s a pretty light weight. It weighs 2 pounds 0 ounces, they shed 2 ounces. You know one ounce per boot off the two compared to the ultra, which is a lightweight shoe.

It was like one pound, nine ounces, so this is are about 7 ounces, heavier but still very comfortable. It’s still very lightweight for a boot. They have a ortholite liner and it’s almost like a seamless sock, very comfortable, no rubbing points to create blisters. It has a what the debris and dust guard where the tongue is connected to the back of the boot. Then. Obviously, that’s just going to fold in got a nice toe guard, which is another thing. The ultralight, sorry, the ultra didn’t really have was a good to guard I like that on my boots as well many ways very comfortable, I’ve, already worn out one pair I did go up, half a size, bigger this time to get a little more toast face, and so far that’s been a good move for me and I would highly recommend these.

If you’re looking for a lighter weight boot and not quite ready to switch over to a trail, runner I’m, a little old fashioned I still like the ankle cover, it gives me a little more support around the ankle in case I, accidentally roll. But anyway it’s just really low. The Salomon x, altra mid 3 GTX, the great boot highly recommend. It also recommend Aria, it’s nice, that they would take that pair back and give me a full refund and got these new Solomon’s on sale.

Everyone today just want to make a quick hiking boots for the late 2018 and early 2019 season, so I’ll be showing you the new pair of boots, that I got and what my old one was and why I decided to switch. So my new boots that I just got are the Salomon GX GTX ultra threes. These are from Salomon, and here we here we go right here. This is the Salomon GTX. This is a size 10 you can see.

I got the the mid size, not the not the lower version. They do have regular laces, instead of the quickly system that Salomon offers and I’m thinking, I’m gonna light that better. This is actually the first pair of Solomon’s that I’m gonna be owning, so I’m really excited to try them out. You see they got the nice rubber tread at the bottom there. This is a size 10, so I’m pretty excited to try them out.

The main reason why I decided to switch was the weight. So, if I set these down right here, the old boot that I got were is the vask breeze to hiking boot. This is a waterproof boot. It has gore-tex lining the only con that I’m finding is that this boot weighs 2 pounds 9 ounces for the pair- and this is a size 11, so I definitely wanted to go with something that was a lot lighter and I decided that I would give Salomon a try, so I say so.

I decided to try the Salomon GTX ultros, so I just want to make a quick video. These are significantly lighter for the pair of they weigh under 2 pounds, so I’m saving over half a pound of weight which is great and because they are the mid size. I will still be able to have the support that I need for when I go backpacking. So that’s the main reason why I decided to try Solomon’s if anybody out there is also using these boots, and you want to leave a comment as to if they work for you what you liked about them, what you didn’t like about them leave and below so yeah.

And this is the X Ultra 3 Mid Wide GTX It’s from Salomon These guys are built to keep up with you out on those tough trails. Make sure your feet always feel fantastic, They’re ideal for fast hiking, over moderate to technical terrain, even in wet weather conditions, It does have a water-resistant mesh and all urethane coated leather throughout the upper there to give you that durability and still allow your feet to breathe in those warmer situations.

You also have a gore-tex membrane in there too, which is fantastic, So you’d, be sure your feet will stay as dry as possible. I’m at what type of weather terrain you encounter, Does have a slightly wider toe box up there on the front, give you a little bit of a roomier fit, which is nice Got that sense of fit system up here, Those laces, when you lace up it’ll, really lock everything in tight, Got gussets on each side of the tongue.

So no debris will make its way to the interior. With that protective rubber toe cap up there for extra durability, Got a really thick EVA midsole. That’s! What’s going to give you that lightweight comfort with that super sturdy, non-marking contact grip, outsole down here, Keep, you steady over that terrain Make your way through the outdoors with ease thanks to these awesome boots right here from Salomon.

Hi, my name is Dwight from robust talk about the salomon ex altra 3. Now I just got this shoe it had it delivered a week and a half ago took it immediately if that haven’t been broken in on a 26 mile hike of the new SIOC trail and the Croatan National Forest, and it performed above my expectations. So one thing I will say is I have read resilient feet: I, don’t get a lot of blisters I can put on many different shoes, wear a good sock combination and I.

Don’t get blisters and I can get one single blister. With this thing, I wanted a hiking shoe. That was light. That would last me many miles, but also wasn’t a high top either for the type of hiking that I was gonna, do or backpacking their shoe doesn’t have normal laces, like a tennis shoe does where you have to tie it. This particular shoe has a pull tab or you pulled the tighten all the laces which I like the quick leg system is nice, especially for camping or backpacking.

I know we say it’s 3:00 in the morning and you need to go out to use the head or use the restroom, and you don’t want to tie your shoes up so simply put the shoe on slike a sandal pull it tight. It makes it simple and efficient. The shoe is very lightweight. I will put the specs in the description box below, but I will tell you. I went with the hiker instead of the running trail, solid shoe, because it’s in time being lighter option, 4 and even the running shoe a trail runner so, and you get more get more miles on it’s more durable, put the shoe on I just slip in there’s a nice bag right here.

Hold it down shoes on and then lacing it up is easy pull. And then you simply slide this tab down and your shoes all tightened and you’re ready to go, and it also has a nice mesh, I would say under the tongue where you can put the extra straps that you may need or don’t need just tuck that and you are ready to go shoe- feels great fits great again. I’ve only taken 226 miles but to be able to take a shoe directly brand new slap them on and go walk, 26 out miles without one blister or shoe issues.

I think that speaks for itself. So I’ll continue to wear the shoes. If I have any issues, I’ll do a follow-on review and we’ll discuss those, but so far the Salomon X ultra threes I, give them a thumbs up and they’re gonna be my go-to trail backpacking chute.

It’s the gear tester here and welcome to my review of the Salomon x, altra 3, mid GTX, lightweight hiking shoes here are the Salomon X all trust in all their glory. They look pretty good, don’t they and there are a number of different colorations you can get. These different shoes in they’ve got what appear to be good souls to me, and these happen to be made in India, okay, before I go over things, I like and don’t like about the Salomon X altra I want to talk a little bit about my personal experience and interaction with Salomon the brand okay, the the company that manufactures these shoes four and a half years ago, I purchased these shoes.

These are the Salomon quest 4d GTX boots, so these are GTX stands for having gore-tex. So these are solvent quest, 4d boots and a Salomon continues to make a pair of these or a very similar pair of these boots so for nab years by purchase these and was extremely happy with them. They actually were lighter and more flexible than some of the shoes.

I was wearing prior to this and I’ve used and abused issues and I love them they’re, great and they’re great great shoes and I really liked them, but because my experience is so positive of these I wanted a more like a tennis shoe a lighter weight shoe for doing things like running and just in a situation where I don’t want to wear, even though these are very lightweight.

These Salomon quest, 4d GTX boots are very lightweight. I wanted something a little bit lighter, not as high in the ankle. So I went out about three and a half years ago and I purchased these shoes. These are the Salomon x, altra, GTX, okay, sole and X Ultra GTX I just want to make one little point here of clarification as I continue.

This review the Salomon ex altra shoes that I’m talking about that have the lime green accents are actually Salomon, X altra to mid GTX shoes, they’re no longer in production. You can’t get them as far as I know. This video is about the Salomon X altra, three mid GTX and those are the current production model that you can currently buy and order.

The Salomon x, altra three mid alright and so I refer to them for simplicity as the X ultras and just kind of generically, but I do want you to understand that point of clarification, the quest for D GTX and these dishes are all made in Vietnam, okay and that’s going to be important as we move through this review love these shoes, you can see there’s some paint spots on them.

I started wearing these out started wearing these more running, I was wearing these every day, but as they started getting beaten up. Okay, coming apart a little bit, I transferred these two being work shoes in terms of like mowing the lawn or going jogging I actually ended up. Running kind of a little mud run obstacle course with some friends in these, and it was great they held up well and I continued to use them, even though they’re pretty beat-up so about two years ago.

I purchased these okay. These are the Salomon XA pro okay, the Salomon XA Pro up and very happy with them. They were my first experience with these little little pole system, the lacing system, that’s different than a standard lace that you tie. They worked really well I’ve, been really surprised with how well these have held up and I would I will and have purchased additional shoes that have this system from Salomon I love them.

These are also made in Vietnam I, don’t know if you can see that label with these also are made in Vietnam and I really like them. Their souls have held up well, they’re, very flexible. They tore out a little bit here and here so I got online started. Looking and more recently, I purchased this pair of shoes from Salomon, and these happen to be the x-force and they’re a beefed-up version of the XA probe.

Okay, so that they did, they use the stiffer of material here they seem to have reinforced a little bit more here. They have less pieces. So it’s more of a solid piece which I think is going to lead to less breakage, but I wore these. Every day for over a year and a half almost two years and they held up really well so I’ve been very, very happy with these shoes.

These are the X. A force happen to be made in you guessed it Vietnam as well. So I wanted to get a pair of shoes that would approximate these I liked having the standard, laces and then one of the pair of shoes that would approximate these, but it appears this song has discontinued this particular style and brand, and these happen to be the Salomon, X or F GTX.

So I thought to myself. I want to replace these particular shoes. Why don’t I just buy the the similar name? That Salomon is marketing because there’s been some changes and some things, but I’ve always liked Salomon, shoes and they’ve always fit the same, so they seem to be using the same basic footbed geometry. So, whether it’s these or the bigger hiking boots or the XA pros or the XA forces, they all fit my feet the same and are equally comfortable, so I figured hey.

This is worked. Ok, for the last four or five years me just buying shoes off the internet, once I figure out what size I liked, so I can buy these shoes, so I purchased them. This is where we come to the review on these X ultra, so we have the X ultra and the X ultra okay, they look very similar. The styling is very similar. It looks like the construction is very similar.

Okay, we have metal little grommets or little eyelets. You can anchor off to here and here, but they’ve used some webbing here instead of the metal there, but you can get by it with some of those things. So I went to put these shoes on okay, these new current production, Salomon X, all truss and I, went to put these on and I put them on and as I put them on.

I noticed a very strange smell, I smelled them as I put them on and they smelled like payless shoes. They smell like cheaper rubber and as I put them on my feet and when I got them on my feet. Okay, I, don’t know if you can see this, but they aren’t the thinner, I, put them on and could I wear these shoes probably, but they do not have the same fit and feel as these older Salomon shoes.

So they are not fitting the same I have this funny smell and as they touch the laces and I, don’t know how well this is going to show up on the camera as I touch the laces. The laces felt cheap, so I’ve already got that cheap, payless Shoe bargain brand smell I mean like it’s the smell you smell when you walk into a payless shoes, they’re, not pretending what to be anything.

They’re, not they’re, they’re, no they’re, cheaper, available shoes and there’s nothing wrong with that and it touched these laces, and these are the stitching and the thread is quite large and then I grabbed this pair and you can see the laces ours. I, don’t know how! Well you can see, I’ll try and take some pictures here, but the the size of the stitching on these these older Salomon X, ol trous, the size of the stitching- is much higher quality.

Okay, it’s more fibers, it’s stronger and it’s more flexible and it’s more than less much less likely to get caught on stuff and tear out, because these are bigger, fibers, so I thought wow I’ve got this sheep smell in these new excellent risk. They’re not they’re, not the same size, okay, and it may not be totally clear that, but they are, they are thinner over here.

The overall foot bed is thinner, they’ve got a weird smell: they’ve got cheap laces. What in the world is going on here and then I looked here and I realized all of a sudden. What’s what changed these are made in India and I started. Looking more closing out the material and this material here on the tongue of the she is again just like the laces, it’s bigger in terms of the the mesh.

It’s cheaper, okay, it’s it’s not the same quality. You can feel this and you can feel this. They are not. This is this is much more silky smoother, and this is just more coarse, crazy, so I’m gonna be sending these X ultras back. Okay, I ended up going to a local, REI store and actually walking through and looking at some of their men and women and shoes.

My wife was thinking about getting a pair and she looked at some some shoes. I can’t remember the precise brand, but they have a little zip closure here, and the first pair was a little too small and those were made in Vietnam and then they brought us out the same exact model same exact coloration, and they had that payless Shoe Store smell and they were made in India, but they seemed to be a little bit better production.

They seemed to be that the zipper pulled ones. Okay, that’s different closure. They seem to be making them better, higher-quality in India than they’re. Making these X, ultras and I just think they cut corners on them, so I’m gonna be sending these extras back and I won’t be purchasing. Another pair of X Ultra from Solomon until I see that the quality production level is back up to the way they were with the ones being manufactured in Vietnam.

My fear is that Solomon has moved their production from Vietnam to India and then we’re gonna see a dip in the quality of their products, and that makes me really really sad. I, don’t care where the shoes are made. Okay, I would I would ultimately like I’m more of the things that I buy and use for my day-to-day life to be made in the country in which I live, which is the USA but I, don’t lie buying products from foreign countries and I don’t care whether these shoes are made in China or Vietnam or Japan or India.

What I care is that the quality level is the same, and if you look on the outside of these shoes, the quality level seems to be, but when you put them on your feet, when you actually sart looking at the quality of the laces they’re cutting corners and they’re, trying to increase their profit margin and they’re the same price, if not more expensive than those other x ulties that I purchased about three and a half years ago, they’ve cut corners and they, instead of having metal grommets here that the lace goes through.

Now they’re, just these that’s planned obsolescence. If you run the lace through that over and over again, it’s gonna tear out eventually, okay, these are not going to tear out this is better, and this is more expensive to make okay and I get that, but I know I, don’t really care. You know you’re looking at when you think about all the shoes I bought you’re, looking at clearly over a thousand dollars worth of shoes, I, don’t mind a forty or fifty dollar jump.

If the quality stays the same, I get that companies are trying to increase their profit margin and stay relevant and continue to make money so that they can pay their employees and pay the individuals that have invested in their company I, don’t have a problem with that: I don’t have a problem. Capitalism I have a problem with buying products and find out that they’re of lower quality than I’ve become accustomed to okay.

We look at these Solomon’s gone to the work of making sure that there is a little plastic grommet well in that Rama, a little plastic tube that is attached there, so that when you slide it through, it does not cut out the webbing there. If, if that was not there, it would cut right through. They know that that would take place here.

I think they imagine that it’s not gonna be as often on and off and there’s not gonna be as much where here, but that’s gonna, wear out so I dislike that I, just like, though, and I wish I paid attention that I probably would not have bought these shoes if I’d noticed, but I just hopped on I, just googled X Ultra from Amazon Prime found it in my size and purchased them because I’ve had such good results with Solomon.

So if you’re thinking about purchasing the current production, Salomon X, bolts, right, gore-tex, shoes I would say avoid them. I, don’t think there is good equality and I’m, certainly not nearly as satisfied as they have been with Solomon shoes in the past, the XA forces and some of those other ones I think are great and I’ll do what you’re gonna have to go and try them on and see how they work out for you how they feel on your feet, if your the quality, if you liked this video and found it useful or helpful I, would encourage you to subscribe to my channel smash the like button.

Blaz videos and today I want to share with you another video about some of my favorite gear and it’s a piece of gear. I’ve showed you before it’s my Salomon X altra 3, mid GTX I bought these 16 months ago now, I have about 600 miles on them and don’t be a good time to do a follow up review. If you’re considering buying these. For yourself still a great shoe, still love it, I would buy it again. It’s held up really well.

This is a mid GTX, so it’s got the ankle cover its gore-tex and very lightweight. If you’re gonna watch my original video that I posted a little over a year ago, I’ll share a link with that, but yeah I wanted to share with you what they look like now. One things I really liked about the Salomon X ultra is the tread and, as you can see, it’s held up really well still quite a bit of tread, let up after 600 miles and it’s holding up good.

The laces are still the original laces believe it or not, no phrase yet they’re still holding up well – and the insoles ortholite. This is still the original ortholite insole it’s holding up well looking inside the boot back in the heel area. As you can see, there’s not a whole yet usually get a wear point back here, where your heel rubs up and down, but they’re, still holding up well still real comfortable. There is just a few little spots where they’re starting to show somewhere I’ve got one little Nick point there, where the toe flexes up and down don’t think it’s leaking through yet, but it’s just a little tear and I did look over it.

Real well and I found one spot where the soles starting to pull away just a little bit. But it’s not bad I mean it’s not it’s. Holding on really well anyways I’ve worn these on the Appalachian Trail. The foothills Trail mountain steep trail done a lot of miles over the Great Smoky Mountains art load trail over the pits. Go national forests anyways. These things I’ve, held up really well held up in though snow creek crossings rock scrambles.

It’s just a great boot, still love it and if I have to go out and buy another pair, I buy the exact same boot. I am looking forward to the number three coming out and I hope you do a review of that when it does, but the meantime still recommend the Salomon x, altra three mid GTX, I love all the Solomons products and go check them out thanks for watching and hopefully, you’ll subscribe and I’ll, throw a link down below to where you can pick these up at REI hope see on the trail some day.

Hey it’s from Waldo world quick, shout out before we go on with this video there’s this cool youtuber who’s, a good friend of mine, f-stop, a k ran by Marti Fowler I’ll include his lane in the bio. The shoes that I’m reviewing is the Salomon x, altra 3 GTX, it’s a long name, that’s hard to remember, but it’s also cool, and this is a cool shield. Now what the shoe is? It’s a shoe made by Salomon it’s for the outdoor enthusiast. Basically now why I wanted this shoe I wanted something with really good grip. I wanted something comfortable and durable good, looking easy to take on and off.

That’s really all there was to it now. I’ve owned this shoe for two to three weeks and I can give you you know what I like about it and what I don’t like about it. I also did some tests with this shoe that I just really want to see you work out and see if I like it or not. Now, when it came to the tests first thing that I did was to try out the waterproofing long story short, my foot stayed really dry and this year it was cold.

Water and I’ve won under stage right and you know, gore-tex is marketed for a reason. It is a great material. This is my first set of gore-tex shoes ever and I. Absolutely never would have thought of gore-tex shoes before I ran across these solvents. It’s genius and they did a great job in terms of you know, hiking and outdoor activities I took these doing a little walking.

You can call me a mountaineer if you want so yeah the trail it had snow on and had some ice on. It I even put this on a tree just to see how will it grip things? It did. Fine I didn’t really get the Tridentine bud and that’s something as I’d like to the shoe in, but after it handled everything else. I have no doubts that this thing can handle mud it it performed out on the out in the field.

So let’s talk about what I don’t like about this, you were basically just some of the cons. You know, there’s no huge red flags, but just to start out with chew is 145 bucks I got it on sale on eBay. You know it’s just that that person I am other con is that they take a little longer to put on than I thought they would. You know, I tried these on the sporting goods store and I didn’t know exactly like what the deal with this as I’ve never owned these types of shoes before these stuff, the extra laces up under the tongue.

I didn’t know that. So you know it’s not really much of a con. It’s really nice once you kind of get the handle of it it’s out of the way it’s not going to loosen on you, and you know just it’s a good idea. Actually, you know and it’s something that I wasn’t in love with at first, but it’s starting to grow on me and it just you know it takes about two or three weeks and you’re like well I, really like it or you, don’t notice it at all, because you’re not a picky, reviewer type of person, or at least you’re not trying to be a reviewer type of person.

Let’s talk about the pros grip was amazing. I did a good job on the surfaces and textures that I put it through when it comes I still, you know, I was really sure footed, because I’m holding that camera. You know filming myself walking over the ice just to see how well it was a some b-roll did a good job. What I recommended over cleats No? Can you still fall on slip? I know some people that can slip on ice really easy.

You know who you are when it comes to like the sole. You know it’s a good. It’s got some good comfort to it. Good flex, you know I’ve had other. You know. I tried on some like ideas that were in this realm of shoe and they were so stiff up here, and this shoe doesn’t have that it’s also got a rubber safety tail. It’s a nice feature, I like it. Also when it comes to comfort more for a high arch, you can take the insole out and you know put whatever you prefer, but straight out the box.

It did a good job for me. I really liked it durability. It seems like it should be. Pretty good I’ll see where they take me. After that you know, I, don’t do super crazy things, but I do I, make sure you look pretty ugly after a while. So well did you guys know about him. I mean everything else about these shoes. I was a fana, so it all boils down the question of whether or not I recommend it have a great analogy for this yield.

Think of a brand-new Tacoma TRD package. Basically, you can pick up the kids or you can go and grab some milk or if you want to go a little back road, you can go ahead and do that if you want to go ahead and race, the Baja with it you’re gonna have to maybe pick something else or do a lot to it or if you want to like take it rock crawling you’re gonna have to do some stuff with it or get something else.

Basically, what this shoe is I wouldn’t want to run up. You know big mountain race with this necessarily it’s all got a little more weight to it, which is okay with me, I’m, not really a light freak. If what you want to shoe for is what I want it for which is just like a daily driver. It’s a good choice for a shield. That’s basically, all there is to it. What you can do is you can watch his sweet vids and then you can pop a pair of these sweet shoes and then you’ll be hot to trot. Basically, you know in terms of sizing I’m a twelve. They fit my feet perfectly. Should you try them on before? Probably, but if you can’t, then you can’t yeah, that’s really all there is to it. Thank you very much for watching this video.

Hello, hello, hello, welcome to firearms of review of this Sullivan man’s X ultra 3 meet GTX hiking boots, all right as a part of this series we’re doing the reviews on the ultimate survival gear. Yes- and this is the boot section, so that’s why we’re doing the boots? It’s not just a regular boots review we’re actually seeing if these boots will help us survive. If anything happened like an emergency really, whatever, whatever you can think of catastrophic disaster or whatever it is the last pair of shoes that you can put on and go which one would that be, would it be this one, let’s find out all right, so this aliments they currently range on Amazon at a between hundred and thirty two and two hundred and twenty seven dollars and I know it’s a big difference between the two.

It is because really depends on what color you choose and what size you choose. This particular ones are one hundred and sixty dollars, this one’s for their black edition and the size is nine and a half alright. So how are we gonna? Do the judgment on these boots so we’re gonna judge it based on eight different categories? First of all, walking running length, comfort. How comfortable are you running in them, walking in them long distances or just simply standing in them? Just you know sitting hanging around while wearing those boots without taking them all number two is gonna, be this stuff proof how many different things they’re proof waterproof radiation-proof, whatever other things that there can be proof you get the point number three is gonna, be the quality number four is gonna, be the sole grip slip resistance, basically how good the sole is in different applications.

Of course, number five is going to be temperature. Are you getting too hot? Are you getting too cold number? Six is how long these boots will last you number seven is the balance of application. If these are the last boots, that you’re gonna put on and run out your house and walk and walk and run and run and maybe drive and do whatever different things different different applications how good these are, how balanced these are in different applications and, of course, number eight.

The last one, the price. Now, of course, let me tell you right away price honestly is not that important to me, because if this is your ultimate survival shoes they better be the best of the best and, if they’re, more expensive than other shoes. Well, you know what you are investing for for your safety, for your protection, like I, always tell in my gun, reviews. I say you know, get a good stuff that does the job don’t buy something cheap, because your life depends on it same thing: ultimate survival boots all right, let’s get to it, walking running lands comfort.

Now the tests that I have done was five miles walk in the trail. It was, you know, a little bit mix of tall grass a little bit nice of a rocky road, and then I did the running for three miles straight and of course, I’ve been walking in them for the whole day. Just to see how my legs feel. Okay, let me tell you so far these boots of all the boots that I have tried for my survival for my ultimate survival boot. These are my favorite.

Whenever it comes to running walking just a comfort overall, they are unbelievably comfortable seriously they’re, probably even more comfortable, that a lot of my sneakers a lot of them I, really anything all right and probably the reason for that is because they have this special ortho light inner sole which just wraps your foot around, and it almost feels like you’re wearing slippers. Speaking of slippers, these boots are so light.

They do feel like you’re wearing slippers, because just it feels like you’re not wearing really anything is so comfortable. It’s amazing! Now the three mile run that I did in them. It was a brief I didn’t I, honestly, it felt better than running in my running sneakers. That’s that’s! That’s how good they are walking for five miles felt like nothing. My feet didn’t hurt. My knees didn’t hurt nothing hurt. It was great. It was. It was absolutely amazing.

So whenever it comes to that I I could give you know well to give it a rating out of 10. I would say this is 10 out of 10 100 percent. This dis use our boots are absolutely amazing. I’m amazing, whenever it comes to that regard, all right number two stuff proof. Now these are advertised as water-resistant. Obviously there is no such thing as waterproof because you know, but they are water-resistant, so it is pretty good. Also I do like this cool design that they did.

If you can see the tongue and the there’s. Basically, this I don’t even know how to call it, but if you notice it in your sneakers or anywhere else, the tongue actually goes all the way out and you can pull it out here. You can’t there is this protection from water. So basically you have this much of space, walking on a tall, wet grass, for example, or walking through a you, know, small creek, obviously, if it’s anything deeper than that, the water will still get in, but nevertheless it’s nice, it’s nice to have something that is water-resistant and if you’re walking through the puddles, if you’re walking through mud, tall, wet grass, you know it’s nice to have that all right.

So that’s really it I, don’t I, don’t think! There’s anything else that it is resistant to, but I will include the link in the description below check it out. Now, whatever it comes to quality, you will find that the reviews are absolutely amazing. Now all the Salamone products are, you know, they’re they’re, really good quality. You you’re not gonna, find any salomon boot or shoe whatever. It is with a negative reviews. You know saying that it’s bad it doesn’t last or something like that.

All of the shoes are actually really good quality and you can tell you can tell whenever you take it out of the box. You can really tell that the shoe is great quality. Now, whenever it comes to sole grip slip, resistance again, I, don’t think anything can be better than this, because this is so creepy and it’s not only grippy on really grippy on pretty much anything that I’ve tried. I tried it all on the tile and it is really grippy.

I tried in the wet grass editors grippy on a rocky road and his grippy great. So for this one again, I would give ten out of ten. With the you know, variety of the applications where you would wanna run where you would want to walk, or something like that now whenever it comes to the temperature again, I would give this shoe a pretty good rating, because my feet, they didn’t get too hot and you know I didn’t try them in the cold temperatures, but you know boot.

Obviously it will have some honestly. Whenever it comes to cold temperatures, I would recommend socks, different socks. You know get some winter socks with you in your backpack for your ultimate survival and get some summer socks and your boot. It should be neutral. It shouldn’t be too hot for for this and too hot, for that again depends on really what time and what time of the year the event the anticipated negative event is going to happen, but you should be ready any time anyway and I think the neutral is the best way to go all right.

Number six has long activity. I only had this boots for for a week and I’m impressed by them. So far, but judging from the reviews on Amazon, there are people saying that they went through Appalachian Trail for 500 miles wearing this boots and not know no damage, no, nothing so again we’re. Judging based on on the good Amazon reviews. We can tell that the longitude is pretty good and, of course, long activity has to do a lot with the quality and like I said, quality feels amazing.

Oh now, number seven balance of application and I did quite a few tests. Like I, said I’ve been walking on the tile trying to slide along the tile I’ve been running, I’d been walking, I’ve been riding my motorcycle in them. Amazing amazing, like I said they don’t feel like boot. They feel like you’re wearing a really really comfortable I, wouldn’t even call the sneakers, because my sneakers, they don’t feel that great seriously. This feels much better than seekers.

I would walk in them if they didn’t look somewhat ultimate survival. Ish I would probably wear them on a regular regular basis, because this they’re just that good okay. So again, so far, this this boot I would say is on the top of my list for ultimate survival boots. I have a few more that we’re going to be doing the tests and reviews on so stick around a few roots check it out. The last one is the price. Now the price is the only if you want to say something negative about these boots.

That would be the price, because, obviously that is pretty expensive one hundred and sixty dollars for this particular pair. This is black nine and a half. Now the price ranges all the way up to two like two hundred and thirty dollars. If you’re going for four different color and a different size, you know it really depends. Like I said, the link is in the description below, so you can check it out and see how much what you are looking for actually is the only thing that I am NOT.

A big fan of in the shoes and I always end my reviews with a few negative comments. Right, I’m, not a big fan of this hoops right here for the for the strings, I kind of like the fact that they are sort of griffey. If you can see they kind of gets in there and gets sort of stuck in there, but nevertheless it’s it’s easy easily. You know removable I’ve, seen it on a huge shoe boots already so I wonder if it’s just a good thing, but I wish they had just regular holes.

Hey guys today, I’m going to do a quick solomon x, altra mid to GTX hiking boot. You can find these at pretty much any outdoor store. Rei is a advocate of Salomon boots and you can find pretty much any pair that Salomon sells at REI, so to get right into it, while I’m talking I’m going to dump the front portion of this boot into the water here was kind of hard to find a bucket that would fit my whole boot.

I wear size 12. So, as you can see, it is submerged in the water to up about right here, fully submerged I’m, going to let that sit while I’m talking about the shoe I’m going to slide this back right here, so I can show you the other shoe I, really love this pair. These pair of boots, they’re awesome, you know, I can wear them out to the store. I can wear them the city and then I can take them out.

Hiking and I and I always trust that they’re going to work. You know Salomon advertises that the fact that they’re, the nose is very flexible, so you can push it down as such. Yeah, that’s a cool feature, but the number one reason why I love these boots is. They are literally 100%, waterproof, I’m kind of doing this review to show you guys how awesome they are. I can take these out in Western Washington, where I live and they’re, essentially like wearing rubber rain boots, but way more comfortable.

Well, they up to a double gore-tex line, which is probably the reason why they’re so waterproof. You know the appearance they’re very attractive. Looking you know they have a great black color scheme, which pretty much goes with any outfit. You never have to worry about your shoes sticking out or you know, a brown belt black dilemma. I was a little upset that Solomon didn’t make their classic quick, quick, lay system with these boots.

These are the regular shoe, laces and I would say. That’s probably the only issue I have with them. The shoe laces come undone quite often, I, don’t know what it is if they’re stiff, but even when they’re wet I’ve broken them in, they still don’t quite stay tight throughout the whole day. Ok, it’s been about a minute and a half. Let’s come back and take a look at these right here.

So this is the boot I, fully submerged I’m, going to take it out, I’ll, let it drip off. So, as you can see, it’s fully saturated, which is a big problem with most waterproof items once they get saturated, it’s pretty much like wearing wet sock, even though you know water might not have actually seeped through. You can pretty well bet. Your whole sock is soaked, which is something that really bothers me isn’t claimed to be waterproof.

They should be waterproof, so I’m going to take this dry napkin I’m, going to shove it in the shoe. Let’s see if we can get any moisture, so you have to trust me when I say I cannot feel any water whatsoever. These been fully submerged for two minutes with zero water whatsoever and, as you can see, I got the whole steam all of these seams and everything through here, even even in the tongue.

Really right here, is fully soaked to about this portion. Let’s pull it out. Nothing literally is 100% dry. So there’s a quick review very biased, but I absolutely love. The shoe, like I, said great Buy. Really it’s one of the cheaper. You know ankle boots out there. It’s very sturdy, it’s very comfortable. It’s very light. That’s something! I really loved about it. Most muti, buyer, very clunky.

The only complaint I had with a shoe lace system, which I’m happy to say, Salomon has released an ankle chute. The same exact shoe just does not go up. It stops about right here and it does have the quick lace system. That’s something I’m! Looking at getting very soon so there you go guys I, hope you buy the shoe. I love it thanks.

Today, I’m going to be doing a quick review, while I’m out here of the new boots I bought for summer hiking, and these are the Salomon. These are the Salomon ultra X mid GTX I’m messing those up, but I believe I hit every word yeah. These are my new summer hiking boots I did buy these myself. I just wanted to get a quick review out. I do have a written review which I’ll link in the description here on the video, which goes into a little bit more detail, better pictures and kind of every single thing about the boot.

This is just a quick kind of first impressions. I did take these on my 14 or that I did about two weeks ago, which was mountain bierstadt here and it instead of the normal 6 5 miles or 6 8 I believe I did 11, because the trailhead was the road to the trailhead was closed. So I did another 4 miles and I got these the night before that.

So that was really a the first test and a really good test to an 11 mile hike up 14 ur for a new pair of boots. I did have a backup pair just in case, but it would have been a rough go if I got like halfway up the mountain and my feet really started hurting. So thankfully these did extremely well super lightweight boot. Gore-Tex, waterproof line.

The lacing system is great. You have your contra grip, your Salomon contra grip outsole, which was super grippy. A rubber toe cap here, which is already beat up so I’m I’m, happy I had that, but you know I think for summer. Hiking these guys are gonna, be absolutely awesome. I do a lot of rocking in the summer just to get outside and get a workout in and I think these are gonna, be great.

They’re super lightweight! That’s the first thing: I noticed when I put them on I. You can’t really tell from online pictures. So that’s why I do these kind of reviews I wanted to see? You know how they felt, how they did I’ve seen a ton of ton of information, a ton of positive reviews of these guys. Another super super popular, so I bought them for myself to see, and so far I’m absolutely loving them.

They have the steel rivets on either side to help cinch them down. Ortholite insole on the outsole, like I, said the contra grip, and then you have your the Salomon advance chassis on the outside, with some Evie a foam on the midsole. To me, these guys feel like running shoes when I put them on for the first time, and even right now and walking up here for the afternoon.

I forgot how comfy they were and I wear. You know: I, wear running shoes, I run a lot. I work out a lot, I wear them a ton, and these guys feel almost the same. They don’t breathe quite as well as like a running shoe, but that’s because they’re waterproof, but they do breathe pretty well my hike my feet never got sweaty, there’s a pretty warm day.

As I said it was 11 miles and they breathe. They did a good job. I had merino wool socks on so you know, I think that I will be buying the Salomon quest for DS, which I’ll be doing a review on separately and then I’ll be doing a comparison review of those in these because I was in between the two, so I figured I might as well just get them both.

Those are gonna, be here in like a week and kind of decide. That is a much different boot I think now, seeing in person I went to REI today and saw them it’s bigger and I, don’t know which one will be better for me to be honest, I like how light these are I, like that, they feel like a running shoe but we’ll see, and then I’ll do a comparison review so be on the lookout for that.

These do come in at 165, which I think is a justified price with the gore-tex lining all the technology they have in this and solvents customer service and warranty. I think this is an awesome boot for most people that do you know just normal day, hiking that want a waterproof boot. That’s comfortable this, this I think is definitely a great boot for that yeah.

Backpacking course today, I’ll be reviewing the widely popular salmon X ultra mid gore-tex hiking boot, it’s on the top of every hiking boot list and highly praised, but does it live up to the hype after putting well over 50 miles on these boots and not sorts of terrains and conditions all around the world I find myself in a great position to give an honest review, considering the abuse I’ve put them through. These are mid height, hiking boots, with gore-tex waterproofing and contra grip, lug pattern for maximum traction.

They come with a molded ortholite insole that I can personally vouch for after a couple of multi week. Trips with these boots, I can honestly say they provide great cushioning and comfort. The boots have performed very well and most of the terrain I put them through. This includes scree rock snow ice and mud. The traction on the sole is great, whether it’s climbing up a steep grade or running down a hill on a dirt trail. My footing has always felt secure. The lugs are deep and give an aggressive grip on any terrain.

The support is pretty much what you can expect on a mid height boot I generally have weak, ankles and have never rolled my ankles with these boots. As long as you’re lacing is tight and your shoe size is correct, you should be good to go for such a light. Hiking boot, they’re, incredibly durable, the stitching and upper fabric has held up great and the bottom lugs hardly have any wear on them, even after all, the use I’ve put them through after a quick, wash they’re as good as new. If you hike as much as I do in hilly terrain, you know what it feels like to constantly be losing toenails throughout the year.

Hiking downhill with a heavy pack puts a lot of pressure on your toes, and if you hit a root or a rock hard enough, you can say goodbye to your toenails for the next couple of months. That’s why I find it important to have a rubber toe cover on the front of the boot. The Salomon X has a substantial toe cap that provides plenty of protection for your toes where they do come short is in the waterproofing. I had multiple instances where I’ve been walking in shallow snow and my feet have gotten wet.

In this case, the gore-tex waterproofing has failed. Other people I’ve met on the trails that have the same boot. I’ll mention the same problem. The price is around 165 dollars online, but you can get them cheaper. If you shop around it’s worth the money, absolutely is it the perfect boot I think that’s relative to each individual’s and your specific needs. I use this boot for 80% of my outdoor activities unless I’m 110 you’re gonna use my specialized boots. If you can get around the waterproofing issue, then I think these will serve you well for a long time, Elena they’re a well-built, durable, comfortable and lightweight boot that will serve for most of your outdoor activities.

So the ultimate question: does it live up to the hype for the most part? Yes, but like anything, it does have its flaws. Thus far is my favorite boot that I’ve owned and has seen more use in a wide array of terrains than any other in my closet. Well, that’s it guys for my review on the Salomon X, all true three mid gore-tex boot. Are they really an upgrade from ultra x, ultra 3, mid gtx? I think they are just as good, but, of course the newer design definitely makes it a little bit better. Looking now, the price is a little bit on the steeper side, almost 165 dollars currently on amazon. The link is in the description below, but the prices usually do go down after some time. So if you really really want to buy this boot for a little bit cheaper, you can put them on your watch list and uh.

You know watch the prices because, like I said they do go down sometimes overall excellent comfort. Excellent lightness features perfect, perfect boot overall, however, because that is me reviewing the boot, I will still find a few things to complain about, just because you know that’s why I do the reviews anyway, if you have time to watch the whole review, let’s get into it, as some of you already know, this review specifically for my ultimate survival boots section, basically not just your average regular review.

Oh look at this look at this string right here. Look look now! This is specifically designed for the survival situations right. If this was the boot that you were wearing or you weren’t wearing it, you were, you were sitting in the house or something bad happened right, and you had this boot in your closet or or whatever whatever you keep your boots. I don’t know kitchen cabinet and you put it on very quickly.

You you had to leave the house because I don’t know a bomb fell on your house and you had to leave and you run, I don’t know think about the sorel situation. All right, 2020 has been pretty crazy. 2020 has been even crazier so far, so I’m sure you have a lot of ideas for the survival situation, so you had to leave the house. You had to run. You had to walk for miles and miles and mouth until you reach your safe destination on the way you have to climb fight.

I don’t know whatever is necessary to survive. Would these be good to survive in all right? Finally, let’s begin, how do we make the judgment we make the judgment based on eight different criteria? Criteria- number one of course, comfort level, one of the most important ones. How do I test the comfort level of all the boots and shoes that I review on this channel? Well, I do a three mile run without stopping and then a five mile walk again without stopping no pauses in between the run and the walk.

It’s just just go. Sometimes it’s really hard. Sometimes it’s easier, because I have good stuff like this, but yeah getting ahead of myself. So uh a few factors like I said these are very, very comfortable. I love the comfort level of these boots and there are a few factors that contribute to the comfort level. First of all, of course, the weight. Yes, the weight of the boots of your shoes determines whether you’re gonna get fatigued from the weight on your feet or not very important makes it easier to run the lighter the better, and these are 14 2, which is unfreaking believable, honestly unfreaking believable.

Here is why well, first of all, they are waterproof. They have gore-tex waterproofing, second of all, they’re mid-sized. Third, they do have the vibram um. Sorry, not the vibram, the the quanta grip um outsole, which is the solomon’s technology for very similar to vibram, by the way, with the quality all of these features and some decent amount of protection as well. All of that 14 2 is unbelievably good.

Now, in order to give you some, you know numbers for reference. Usually I say whenever it comes to, you know running in your whether it’s trail running shoes or hiking boots uh, whether it comes to traveling, extended periods of time and extended periods of time. Usually it’s you know around 10 miles in a day right, you’re, traveling, that’s anything above that, of course extended periods of time uh, but whenever it comes to that, if you want, if you don’t want not want, don’t want to feel fatigue from the weight on your feet from the boot, of course, you’re going to feel fatigue anyway, if you’re running for for so long, if you’re walking for so long because you’re putting in the effort.

But if you don’t want to be fatigued from the weight on your feet, you want something under 20 ounce and the more under 20 ounces. It is less than 20 and the less 220 you get the point, the more under 20 ounce. It is the better the lighter it feels the less fatigue you’re going to feel all right makes sense. Now these are well well under 20 oz, so excellent, excellent job solomon and by the way this is size 10.

So, obviously, if you get a size 11, it’s going to be a little bit heavier if you’re getting a size 9, it’s going to be a little bit, lighter overall, fantastic job. There. Solomon now there are, of course, a few other factors that contribute to the comfort level uh the flexibility of the bottom sole, and look at that I mean this is this is listen. This is more flexible than my running sneakers that I use for running right.

This is more flexible, so you it’s more comfortable to run in these mid-sized boots than it is in my running sneakers. Yes, you can definitely run properly in this boot without any problems, without putting the stress on your heels, on your ankles and on your knees, obviously, because that’s how it transfers, but besides that there are some other factors that contribute to comfort level and another one would be the inner saw and check this out.

This is the all-time favorite ortholite right here um. It was a little bit updated in the in the four uh well for one it’s red and not blue uh, but the shape is very similar. It didn’t change that much. You still have your heel bed. You still have a little bit of arch support. It’s still same kind of amount of jelliness, pretty good and ortholite. If you’re not familiar with it um, it’s not unique to salomon.

Basically, it’s a special kind of fabric wickering fabric that weakers the moisture. So it does not allow for the bacteria to spread, which is very, very good and useful whenever it comes to hiking situations, because you know you hike for extended periods of time your feet, you know, start to sweat, so good, good, stuff uh. We don’t, however, which is one of those little tiny complaints that I have about this uh, but we don’t have anything else, so it goes straight into the hard outsole.

So this is the only cushioning that you get now some of the salomon boots. They implement another layer, it’s it’s, it looks kind of not it doesn’t kind of look. It is blue right. It’s a blue layer of kind of jelly type of thin uh fabric or whatever material they put, and it definitely adds a little bit to the impact protection. Not here here, salomon decided that this is all you’re getting.

I don’t know why, but it is what it is now uh the tongue here nicely padded definitely contributes to the comfort level seriously you well, you know what, if you wear this without socks, which I don’t know why you would, you would feel comfortable here in the sheens uh nice very nice padding over here in the shaft decent in the body of the boot. However, you’re not really getting anything whenever it comes to this hard rubber cap on the inside of the toe box, so it is hard.

It goes straight into the hard rubber, so if you’re getting it in the wrong size, if you are not wearing socks, which I don’t know why you would do that, um you’re, not gonna like it, because this is on the outside. This is how it feels on the outside pretty much. This is how it feels on the inside, keep that in mind so important to get it in the right size all right. So, overall, I do like the comfort level of this boot a lot.

It’s very, very comfortable super lightweight, excellent, excellent job salomon. However, I think it could have been better. Yes yeah, so I’m looking forward for x, ultra five mid gtx and I’m hoping solomon watches this review and does some corrections all right. Let’s move on to the criterion number two now, which is proofing and protection now proofing wise. Like I said these do feature the fancy gore-tex waterproofing technology, which is you know if you’re an outdoors enthusiast right, you you do hiking regularly, whatever you probably do, prefer gore-tex waterproofing, because it is breathable, it is lightweight and it really does work.

It helps. It really does provide some really really good waterproofing features. So you know the only the only downside of having gortex is the price, because, usually, if you get something with gore-tex, it’s going to be 40-50 more expensive than non-gore-tex version. If there is such alright, but here we have gusseted tank, you already noticed which goes about, let’s see about four and a half closer to five inches, which is pretty much the size of the shaft.

So pretty good someone used the hole pretty much the whole length of the shaft for waterproofing, pretty good job there, nothing too crazy. Now, whenever it comes to the protection uh, we do have our typical x ultra uh rubber cap on the front which I do do love. I think all of the hiking boots should have at least that this is the bare minimum, doesn’t add a lot to the weight, but at the same time it does provide some sufficient um amount of protection, especially on the rocky road.

You know, if you have small rocks, you know sliding down and falling on your toe there, you go you have it not much here. Of course, this is very, very soft, so anything falls here. You will definitely feel that impact not gonna, feel good, but you do have some padding on in the shaft pretty good to protect your ankles and, of course, your heel is reinforced as well as well as there is this design going on the bottom, to give you some kind of uh protection as well as support, and of course I mentioned the corner grip which we’ll talk about later in the outsole, which is a very, very tough, rubber and uh.

You know I will talk more about it in in the outsole whenever we talk about the outsole uh, so overall, whenever it comes to proofing and protection, I think it’s a very, very good balance uh between having some protection but at the same time, not sacrificing on the overall weight because, obviously the more stuff you have for your protection, the more weight the bulkier the boot becomes alrighty.

Let’s move on to the criteria number three now quality and the design features now quality wise, because this is a new model of the boot uh. There aren’t really any reviews on uh on this boot, not much on amazon. The link is in the description below by the way uh, but but if you want to know how good this is check out, the reviews on x ultra 3 mid and you will see there are- I don’t know how many there are.

But there are a lot, I’m sure there’s a lot, almost five stars that I know for sure uh. So people do like these people do like these a lot. In fact, the x ultra 3 mid gtx. They won my uh on my channel, the ultimate survival boot of 2019. Yes, so I do do love those, and these are like. I said these are not any worse uh. So keep that in mind now whenever it comes to the design features.

Usually here I talk about the lacing system. Lacing system overall, here is pretty good. The strings are nice, they slide through very easily and proportionately. However, here is one of my other little complaints or not really complaints, but more like questions salomon. What the hell happened with the locking hooks on the top. This don’t like anymore. I mean they kind of do, but they don’t really stay in place.

You know in uh the in the x ultra 3. We had the ones that actually did lock in place, and you could just wear them like this, because they do actually lock in place. Not these not anymore. I don’t know what happened but bring it back. Please bring it back because we love them. Well, I don’t know if you guys love it, but I love them. They were good, but anyway you do have uh three pairs of fabric.

Hooks here with this pretty cool active support system which implements the strings kind of gives you the support um on this side, not on this side, but this. This is where it matters uh, but uh. You do have uh one pair of clothes hooks and then one pair of open, open hooks, which is pretty good, which is typically what you will find in uh, your hiking typical good hiking boots. Uh, it’s helpful to have the top open hooks.

If you want to release the tension very quickly. Like I said, the only thing is that salomon decided not to implement the locking hooks on the top, which makes it even easier, but uh yeah solomon bring it back. It would be nice alrighty. Let’s move on to the criteria number four now outsole traction and stability now um the way I test all the outsoles on this channel. Well, the boots with the outsoles.

Obviously, because you know whatever, whenever I do my run and the walk, I do it on a variety of different surfaces. I start with older asphalt going into the newer tarmac and then I go into the there’s a lake by my house, so I do the dry sand, wet sand and then dry, grass wet grass trail, surface rocky road and then some marble and tile, and let me tell you guys: this is one of the best outsoles out there.

This is as good as it can get. It is a very, very good balance between aggression and flatness, more on the aggressive side which I do prefer. I do like the balance. Don’t get me wrong, but I do prefer a little bit more of the aggression, especially with my hiking boots. I think it’s very very important- and this like I said because this is their special contour grip technology. This is a very hard rubber, so you don’t have that play that sometimes you get on some aggressive outsoles, some aggressive grooves.

You don’t have that play over here, so it does not mess with your traction and stability, which is very important whenever you’re running, especially on flat surfaces that doesn’t mess with it at all you can. It literally performs great on literally everything you throw with it dry grass wet grass, whatever sand, whatever no problem a lot of a lot of boots, that’s where they have a problem because they have these fancy designs.

You get these fancy grooves, where the sand or rocks little rocks they get stuck, and now you lose your traction, and now you have extra weight on your feet, not the case here because, like I said, perfect balance of aggression and flatness with a little bit of on aggressive side. I guess that’s not a perfect balance more towards the aggressive side, but it’s a good. It’s a good kind of aggression, perfect kind of aggression anyway.

So overall I do love this outsole a lot excellent job. There solomon did not let us down as usual whenever it comes to the outsole alrighty done with the outsole um wait, you know what one thing that I wanted to mention here is that typically, usually, whenever you have your hiking boots, you they’re not very good. On the like flat shiny surface like marble and tile, these are very good on marble and tile.

They definitely do because it’s very hard rubber and these little grooves right here they almost kind of give you that slip, resistance which you will find on a lot of tactical boots, uh, so great job. There, solomon um, the surfaces that I did not test them on is this the uh, the snow and the eyes. Now these are not really designed to be a winter boot, so there is really no point to test them on snow or ice, but they still would be pretty good on the snow, no problems there on the ice.

The this this outsole would probably be your best bet for the ice unless you’re getting ice boots, specifically with some metal spikes all right. So, unless you’re going that route, specifically with ice um ice spikes, whatever metal spikes on the boots, you did this would be the best bat keep that in mind. Alrighty. Let’s move on to the criteria. Number five temperature. Now I kind of briefly started talking about the temperature.

These are not winter boots, they have no insulation, so you probably can get away in some cold temperatures. If you, especially, if you implement some insulated socks and they are waterproof after all- and the outsole is fantastic, so you might get away with some pretty cool temperatures with this, but this is more of uh. To me, this is more of a three season type of uh boot, because there is really no insulation sources, not not a winter.

I I prefer uh, if it’s really winter, that you’re looking for. I prefer to have a winter hiking boot, specifically for colder temperatures specifically for snow and ice, but in the hot temperatures this is very breathable again. Thanks to the fancy waterproofing gore-tex technology does not usually whenever you have a waterproof boot, they do run a little bit hotter because they’re not as breathable as non-waterproof boot.

This, however, is still very lightweight very breathable on your feet, so you do not overheat. Let’s move on to the criteria number six! Now the sizing um. Now whenever it comes to sizing, these are definitely true to the size. One good advice that I got from my hiking friends that you know who does the hiking on pretty much regular basis? Uh? Is that get yourself half a size bigger whenever it comes to hiking boots boots in general, and then trail running shoes that will prevent from that unnecessary fatigue? You have a little bit of extra space and with these boots, yes, you do have half a size bigger.

You do have a little bit of that extra space. Just like you should be so great job with the sizing song. Let’s move on to the criteria number seven now the balance of application. So if something bad happened- and this really was your ultimate survival boot- that was the only boot that you had in the house- maybe you were already wearing it and now you had to survive. You had to walk, run fight, climb, whatever’s necessary for your survival.

Would this be a good option? Honestly? This is like one of the best options that you can think of. Uh. You can still be fast in it. You can run fast. You can climb, do whatever you’re. You do not sacrifice your mobility, but at the same time you have decent amount of protection and proofing they’re waterproof and at the same time, this these boots. They really, you know whatever terrain you have to survive through, they can practically handle anything you throw at them with this amazing amazing, outsole and excellent overall comfort level and excellent overall, pretty much everything else now.

Can these boots be better? Yes, they definitely can. There are a few things that solomon could have done better, but nevertheless, if there was an option for me to choose the ultimate survival boots uh, these would definitely be in my top five of all the boots that I have reviewed on the channel. Yes, these are really really good, and that brings me to the criteria number eight, the price.

Are they worth 165? The link is in the description below. Are they worth that much money? Well, 165 is a pretty steep. It’s definitely on the pricier side. Are they worth it? Yes, all right. They are definitely worth it with all the features that they provide with how good they are and knowing the solomon quality. Yes, they are worth it. There is a lot of competition in the 165 dollar range.

There is a lot of competition. It’s not going to be an easy choice. Like that’s it 100, this is the boot that I’m choosing, no, you will be shopping around because there are some really really good options out there from lova from la sportiva from a lot of them. There’s a lot of them even from salomon themselves, much cheaper ones too. So you can save, probably 40 50 60 and get a boot that is literally just as good as this one.

You know I’m referring to x, ultra 3, it’s just an older model, so you’re not going to be as cool you’re, not going to be the cool kid on the block, because you’re not the way you’re not wearing the latest model, but at the same time you’re saving, money and you’re getting pretty much just as good of a product. As you know, as this, so yes you’re very welcome. I had to make it difficult for you at the end of the video uh, but I wouldn’t be honest if, if I didn’t all right, but the link is in the description below, if you still want to buy this boot, go ahead, click on it and get yourself a pair just make sure to leave a review on amazon once you get them because yeah they do need reviews on amazon’s.

Okay, thanks for joining me again today, final assessment of my Salomon X, ultra 3 cortex, mid hiking boots, but first I want to say a quick thanks to one of my viewers, sister Rev, for the encouragement to keep on doing these videos and for the great advice to start doing them again in more natural settings. So I’m gonna come back out with some more of these videos, for you guys and it’s going to be a nicer settings anyway. So whew so I have had these Salomon boots for a little bit over a year now and they’ve been amazing boots for the most part, I really love them.

I’ve done a couple other reviews and at some point, I’ll try to link when I get around to editing. This I’ll link those to this video at the end, so you can check those out if you like, and so basically the main things I want to tell you is basic, is essentially what are the things that I’ve learned from these boots about design and functionality and what are the things that I would like to change about them to make them even better? So I’ll start by saying I really love these boots they’re.

What I would consider to be the best hiking boots, I’ve ever owned and used they’ve been incredibly functional and some of the things that I’ve I, like I, said I’ll direct you to one of my earlier videos where I talk about a lot of these things, but I’m just gonna touch on a few of these points. Some of the things I really love about these boots is it’s got the really good flexibility. It feels like a more of a trail running shoe than it does a clunky hiking boot. It’s you know it’s got a pretty flexible sole, which I personally like I, don’t really like super stiff soles, I like to be able to feel the ground even through a big thick sole like this I can still I still have some what they call proprioception feeling of ground contact in this case between the feet in the ground.

I like that, it’s got a really nice bumper toe guard in the front. The soles on these. As you can see, this one is worn down. They didn’t last quite as long as I would have liked for them to, but I was using them all virtually every day for a year on trails, so they are gore-tex. The gore-tex has failed a little bit, which is I guess to be expected at some point. You know over time, so it does leak water now, but actually one more thing I want to say about these Souls, so I I’m, very happy with the functionality and the performance of these Souls.

The one thing that I would like to see different if they are willing to do this is a zero drop soul, because I, really you know, I’m not into the whole heel thing I, think that’s an outdated way of using making Footwear I think it’s a lot better to have more of a natural flat, fully achilles, extended stance wearing shoes, okay. So here’s a couple of the failure points I want to talk about with these boots. As you can see in this one on my right foot. Look how gouge that is so this mesh! This is made of some kind of a you know, nylon or you know, polyester or something synthetic mesh for the exterior shell over here and I think that that would be a lot better if it was a different material.

Probably leather I know that they meet I guess they were trying to avoid using leather on these boots, but I think that you know having tears like this I mean maybe it’s possible for it to happen on leather as well, but I just think it would have lasted longer. If it was a leather, boot and stuff, you know the synthetic fabric, the rest of us know I really, like you know, this is some kind of like a rubberized rubberized strapping. You know on the outside of this shoe I. Think that gives really good Rock protection.

I’ve been very happy with that. As you can see, it’s you know hasn’t really gotten any rock major Rock gouges. Here’s another thing it would have been better if I was able to have the other boot here with me, so I can show you was on that side, but on these boots, I on this on this right, one I blew out one of these lace, things an eyelet. It’s like a fabric, eyelet and I, don’t think so. Basically, on the other, boot I blew out three of them, the top three and not all at once, but it was over time they just wore out in part I.

Think I was tightening my boots a little bit too tight and that that friction I think burned through those. But then again, I really think that using that fabric, that not that whatever this nylon type of fabric is there’s webbing for these eyelets I. Don’t think that’s ideal it! You know it’s a obvious weak point, and it is you know it’s something that, like you know, it’s gonna break at some point. But that brings me to another topic that I made another video about where I was talking about a solution to having your toes getting crammed is to remove the late, the that top lacing and then just start lacing from the second.

You know eyelets and what I realize is. Maybe it was after the break-in period that they that they stretched out a bit and got a little wider in the fabric, but I was you know it’s having the issue of getting crept. My toes getting crushed when I was tightening them down. I. Think part of it was that like I was just tightening them too tight when I, you know, once they were broken in a little bit. More and I started and I started blowing out those other laces I started lacing them back to the end again and they’ve been fine.

Actually I don’t feel, like my toes have been getting crushed since then and yeah. So the last thing I want to mention is I’m really into wearing gaiters I, usually wear that I usually wear these rei. Activator running, Gators and and I modified. These ones, too, incorporate a gator trap and what that is is basically I. Put the back, I put a piece of velcro I glued it on to the back of these shoes. It’s a hook and loop setup, and the back of this Gator has also a hook and loop setup velcro.

So basically- and it goes in there and it hooks on- and you know it closes in there and holds it tight- and then you this got the hook in the front of the gave it just hooks on zhiting of these laces and um, that’s been working really well. Obviously, it’s not my design. I got that from the brands ultra that you saw me wearing a second ago and I just copied it into these boots anyway. So that is pretty much everything I wanted to say about these boots. They’re really great boots.

They didn’t last me as long as I wanted them to, but overall I’ve been very happy with them and it’s you know really really good design and I’ll keep you posted on what I’m replacing them with so anyway, if you have any questions or anything just feel free to leave me a comment, and thanks for watching I’ll see you in the next one.

America and today we are finally doing as a part of our Tennessee special I am finally announcing the ultimate survival booth of 2019. So whoever is not familiar with what it is that, basically the whole 2019 year I have been reviewing a whole bunch of different boots and it’s time to select which one is the best of 2019. Now keep in mind. Of course, personal opinion has a lot to do with it, but but of all the boots that I have reviewed.

The winner is Salomon ultra three mid X, GTX I, think I think there was number three in day: X ultra three meet GG perfect and we got the winner. So why is it the ultimate survival boot of 2019 of all the boots that I have reviewed in 2019 I? Don’t think they were made into a 19 they were probably made earlier, but of all the boots that I reviewed in 2019. This is my number one ultimate, all trolls, okay, so first of all number one comfort level.

Of course, if you have watched the whole review whenever we did that and you’re enjoying the background, I know, that’s the Great Smoky Mountains right there couldn’t have picked a better background for that so number one. Obviously, the comfort level and the sensitive technology that Salamone uses in this booth is I mean it’s absolutely magnificent. This was the first pair of boots that I have reviewed from Salomon with that sensitive technology.

Basically, what it does is, whenever you put your food in it wraps around your food and it holds it in place. Giving you really really good. Stability really helps whenever you’re walking up the hill and down the hill, and you guys, if you watched any of my boot reviews, you already know I mentioned it all the time you know getting that extra space in the front so that whenever you’re walking down the hill, you know your food is not flying downwards and not banging at the front of the toe box, because that can get painful very quickly.

Well with this boot. Is it’s really good because this sensitive technology wraps around and holds your food? So it’s not sliding around. You know back and forth whenever you’re walking up and down the hill, so it really really helps also my favorite ortholite inner sole, which is I, mean it’s absolutely magnificent. Let me see if I can take it out here and show you how it is shaped, because it is shaped in a kind of a unique way and I have not seen it in a lot of boots come on there.

We go alright and, as you can see, it also kind of gives you a little bit of support here, holding your heel in place, preventing it from sliding back and forth. Now, of course, GTX. You know membrane whenever it comes to proofing a protection GTX gore-tex, it’s that waterproof membrane, which is a newer, more expensive technology. That’s why this boots are a little bit on the pricier side. There are hundred and thirty dollars about 130 dollars, depending on the size, depending on the color that you pick all the links are in description below and if you watch the review the actual review of this boot, you can find the link there as well, but but testing it in you know, in the conditions where you do need that waterproofing definitely works GTX.

You know it’s it’s highly recommended by most of the hackers out there. They prefer that GTX now another thing that I do like about this boot. A lot is that they’re midsize right. So why a midsize whenever it comes to ultimate trial, good right and not a full-size, because you can find a good pair of Salomon boots and full size like, for example, for D quest and I absolutely love those boots as well. But if you watched any of my videos, you know that I prefer more that mobility over protection and here’s the thing whenever it comes to protection right.

You are not really sacrificing much of the protection whenever you’re going mid-size over the full-size, because you still have that ankle protection here, so pretty good and with the full size you don’t really protect much over the ankle anyway, it gives you a little bit of extra space for the roof waterproofing. Yes, that’s good! You know if you’re, stepping in a deeper Creek, for example- that’s pretty good, but that’s really it.

The vital part is the ankles, and as long as you have that ankle protection, that’s good, but having the mid-size or a full size saves you a lot of the weight and you guys know I’m prefer more of that mobility and with extra weight comes the restriction you know in that mobility, so I’d rather have less weight and a little bit less protection, not sacrificing too much. If you know what I mean now whenever it comes to the traction now these this I mean this outsole is just absolutely fantastic: I’ve tested a them on everything and they perform great on everything.

It has perfect amount of perfect balance of aggression and flatness as well. You know on flat surfaces like tile shiny surfaces, marble they do hold very nicely. They do give you enough of traction not to slide around on those surfaces. Usually you do need those slip. Resistant boots to you know hold you well on those surfaces with this ones. Yeah. They definitely do do give you enough of that. So ultimate survival, boot right here, I kind of had a feeling.

The very first time I tried them that these will be the ones but hey. You know can’t argue with that. Okay, so yes, as I as I promised before I, wanted to give two substitutions for the ultimate survival. Good, cheaper, substitution and option number two: if you want to save money and still get a lot really a lot for your money, yes, an option from Salomon as will, but this is the Pathfinders now this is a great great boot and it is extremely extremely similar to the ultra and, let me take them out of the box.

As you can see, they’re both midsize. They look pretty much identical. Now the outsole is exactly the same. It is just as good. They also do feature that sensitive technology, so they wrap around your food absolutely beautifully just very nicely. The only here few differences, few differences they also do have the or slide by the way. Yes, it’s not shaped as in the ultras, but it’s still more flat, so it’s very comfortable takes on a lot of impact.

Few differences. Okay, we only have two, not two one pair of hook here on the pathway we have two pairs on the ultra, and the hardware here is metal. Here is a heavy duty. Plastic now I wouldn’t really say anything negative about the heavy duty plastic. You know, I never had a situation where snapped or anything like that, but some people do prefer a little bit of that peace of mind a little bit of difference whenever it comes to the protection of the top on the pathfinder, as you can see, compared to the ultras and on the ultras, this rubber is actually a bit just a tiny bit harder compared to the pathfinder.

This is not Robert. This is more of that synthetic material and it is a bit softer. Of course, the design features a little bit. You know a little bit more basic on the pathfinder, but none of that really makes any much of the difference. The only main difference why these are about $40, cheaper, you can save about 40 bucks on these on the Pathfinders is that these do not feature the gore-tex. They are not GTX, they’re still waterproof, but the waterproofing is actually the CS WP.

Now, in my personal opinion, I have tested them. You know in the conditions where you need waterproofing and climb ascents performs just as fine as the gore-tex, but again like I, said most of the professionals. You know hikers, who do you know this really hard work? They do recommend gore-tex, keep that in mind, but no did not have any problems with climate sense. So that’s the plan Pathfinder’s also very comfortable, extremely comfortable, absolutely love those boots.

The sensitive technology is absolutely amazing, they’re, also very lightweight. In fact, these are about 20 grams or 40 grams. Lighter, not really a dis difference that you will notice, but still lighter. You know, then, your ultras, probably because of the plastic hardware, compared to the metal month over there. Okay, so that’s this option. Number two right weight. That’s actually number one! If you don’t want to spend one hundred and thirty dollars, and you want to spend only about ninety dollars because that’s how much you can get these again.

The link is in description below, but you can save even more and there is another option that I want to recommend for the ultimate survival boot as a replacement for the ultras, the Salomon ultras- and this is dirty Colombia’s. Sorry, guys, I didn’t have time to wash them, because I literally just came from the trail with this booth, and this is Columbia Newton, Ridge plus, and they were also one of the first ones that I have reviewed on this channel and I review them along with ultras and I, actually tested them back to back with the ultras, and they are also very comfortable not as comfortable as ultras, but still very, very comfortable.

As long as you get that follow that advice of mine, you know that not really mind professional hackers to get half a size bigger so that whenever you’re going down the hill again, you’re not smashing your toe on the front of the toe box, because they do not feature that sensitive technology. So it doesn’t wrap around your foot as much but still very, very comfortable, very lightweight waterproof as well. Nothing fancy, of course not gore-tex, no fancy ortholite inner soul, but the outsole is actually very, very similar to the ultras, as you can see.

So it gives you amazing traction, I, absolutely love it and, like I said, I did a pretty hardcore trail in these. Just now. Just literally just came about thirty minutes ago. From that trail with some really wet slippery rocks crossing the creek and some muddy surfaces, and they perform absolutely perfect. So you have right here to wrap it up the winner of the ultimate survival boot of 2019, the Salomon ultra 3, mid X GTX.

And then, if you want to save a little bit more money, you have an option of Salomon’s pathfinders beautiful boots. Absolutely and even cheaper option at $75 and even cheaper. You can find them even cheaper depending on the price and the color they have. You know just look around the internet. You can find it cheaper too, but 75 bucks on Amazon, currently Columbia Newton reach +2. Thank you very much guys for watching. I’ll, see you in the next video.

Welcome to firearms of america today as salomon boots or in this case shoes. This is salomon x, ultra 3, hiking shoe, and if you have been following this channel for some time, you know that for the 2019 I have selected as the best ultimate survival boot of all the boots that I have reviewed on this channel in 2019, the winner was yes, salomon x, ultra 3 midsize.

This is, however, the trail running or the hiking shoe, whatever really pretty much the same thing version in here. So, let’s get into it. Is it really that different from the mid-size version, let’s find out? If you don’t have time to watch the whole review? Let me tell you guys: I absolutely love it. It’s very comfortable lightweight if you want lightweight, if you, if you like speed.

This is definitely lighter, of course, than the mid size, true to the size, no problems at all that I have found no quality issues. If you have time to watch a whole review, let’s get straight into it, as some of you already know those reviews specifically for my ultimate survival boot section. Basically, we judge the boots.

All of the boots hiking shoes based on eight different criteria, and then we decide if it’s a good for survival. Basically, if something bad happened- and you know you had to put on a shoe like this or a boot and walk out of your house and go for miles through different terrains- do different things on the way run, fight climb do whatever might be needed to do to survive.

Would this be a good survival shoe, let’s get into it, criterion number one comfort level, and in order to test the comfort level on all of the shoes and boots that I review on this channel, I do a three mile run first and then a five mile walk right after without any kind of stopping, and let me tell you guys these- I absolutely love whenever it comes to comfort.

First of all, one of the most important things and advantages of this particular shoe is, of course, the weight. Let’s take a look, this is size 10, and it is only 13 6. Now that is absolutely amazingly impressive and if you’ve been watching any of my reviews, I always say that anything under 20 ounce. If you want lightness, if you want to be able for really walk for really as as much as you can physically, without feeling that weight on your feet or if you want to be able to run for extended periods of time without being tired from your shoe wear, you have to be looking at something that is at least under 20 ounce, and this this is well under 20 oz, so lightness, absolutely amazing, and definitely it contributes to the comfort level now, a few other factors that contribute to the comfort level, flexibility of the bottom sole.

As you can see, it is very, very flexible, so you can run properly. In fact, in fact, this is seriously it’s more comfortable that a lot of actual running sneakers that I have tried pretty impressive, pretty impressive, okay, there’s another factor that contributes to the comfort level and that’s, of course, the inner sole and, as you can see here, it’s the ortholite and ortholite inner sole is the special inner sole that they they often use it on on a lot of their shoes on a lot of their boots, and I do like it a lot, it does offer some sufficient amount of impact resistance right.

So if you are running improperly putting some unnecessary stress on your heel, it transfers to your ankles. It transfers to your knees, not good. So a little bit of extra cushioning here in the heel definitely helps pretty good. And, of course, you can see the heel bed, which also kind of helps not much from it. I wish it was a little bit firmer, but still pretty good and, of course, the ortholite itself.

The technology is that uh, basically, what it does is, kills the bacteria, so it doesn’t allow for the bacteria to spread as another little plus right there. But I wanted to also mention here point out that, even when you take out the inner sole, you still have a very nice soft layer of cushioning on the inside of the boot, which is definitely pretty good.

So it’s not just from the inner sole, which is what in fact most of the times you see in most of the shoes and most of the boots, but there’s some extra layer. Okay. Another factor that contributes to the comfort level is, of course, the cushioning that you get from the inside. There isn’t really much, but because the material here is very soft and on the inside it has additional layer of fabric.

It does feel really good. It does feel very comfortable so overall, on the comfort level, easily a 10 out of 10 without any problems uh, I rarely give something a 10 out of 10 on this channel, but here is just everything is perfect. There’s enough padding here on the tongue. There is good amount of padding here, although it doesn’t touch your you know, ankle doesn’t go up, so it’s not really that much big of a deal, but nevertheless, still pretty good so done with the comfort level.

Let’s move on to the proofing and protection. Now you probably have already noticed this label right here. Yes, these are gortex, so they do have gortex waterproofing. It is a good technology. Honestly, though, I think it’s a little bit overkill on the hiking shoe, because there’s really not much of the waterproofing you can expect from the shoe.

Now whenever it comes to the mid-size boot, obviously the full-size boot you have the toll shaft, you can step on a deep puddle and it will you know, that’s where the waterproofing works here. However, you only have about only at the lowest point and, of course, the tongue here is gusseted at about the same level actually higher than this right here and we have about.

Let’s see one about three and a half inches, so I mean if you are stepping in a one inch two inch puddle good, but still you know I I think it’s gore takes a little bit overkill here, just because it adds up to the price quite a lot, and we will talk about the price later, but I think they could have got away with their own salomon waterproofing technology, which I believe is called climasense, something like that so uh regarding the waterproofing.

Yes, they are waterproof regarding the protection. Now you do have the same exact nice, hard piece of rubber right here on the front which I really really do like I kind of wish it was a little bit higher just to give you a little bit of more area of protection. But again you know if you want to go and get more protection.

Obviously that would add up to the weight overall weight of the shoe, and here they wanted to save as much weight as possible. So I definitely do understand it, but this is definitely a good good plus nothing to expect for ankle protection here. Obviously, but you do have some nice uh reinforced heel on the back for extra support and, of course, some protection as well and, of course, because we have this contour grip, outsole very hard rubber.

We will talk about it later, but this obviously adds to the protection from you know from the bottom. If you step on something sharp, okay, so done with the proofing and protection, let’s move on to the criteria, number three quality and the design features whenever it comes to salomon. I only had I reviewed a lot of salomon shoe, wear, probably about 20 30 pairs, maybe and out of 20 30 pairs.

I think it was only about two or three of them that were running a little bit too big a little bit too small um, not really a huge issue, just something that points out kind of the quality control. But you know whenever the new shoes come out, usually the manufacturers. They do look at the reviews at the response and if they see that a lot of people complain about the sizing they usually adjust, so not a big deal, but whenever it comes to long-lasting uh factor of the shoe, I personally have a few salomon boots that I have used on a lot of a lot of different hikes, very different terrains from mountains to just regular trail hikes here in florida as well.

You know all of this tropical, including this this particular shoe and uh. I mean it’s just it’s just overall, very well nicely built shoe to really really last, and I have a lot of reviews from much much more experienced hikers than I am just doing. Some crazy hikes going to you know appalachian trail and stuff like that, and they a lot of them.

They they prefer salomon. So that just says a lot. Let’s talk about the design features here I usually talk about the lacing system, and here this is probably the least favorite part of this hiking shoe in in my particular case. This is just a personal preference. Some people might like that. I’m not a big fan of this lacing system.

I think it is a little bit of a finic operation, even though it allows for quick get your foot in tighten and then lock it in place. What my problem with this system is, is this extra stuff that you’re getting now? You can tuck it in somehow here and they actually do send you a kind of like a little sticker. That shows you how to tuck it in.

I couldn’t understand it from the sticker honestly, but but I kind of improvise and you can, but still, even if you do it like this, even if it’s nice and flush, maybe somehow like this, you still have this tripping hazard right here, especially whenever you’re running, especially whenever you’re running on a trail, because you know, for example, here we have in florida woods we have cypress trees and they are not they’re, not one of the most stable trees out there.

So most of the times, whenever I run through a trail or just do the hiking, there is quite a few of at least big branches, just laying in the middle of the trail and you when you run it, it’s actually kind of fun. You know you run and you jump over those branches, but whenever you have in the back of your mind that you have a tripping hazard, it kind of slows you down a bit now in the mid-size version of this well in the boot version of this uh of this shoe.

They do actually have the regular strings with a very cool fancy, fit technology that kind of wraps your foot around. I absolutely absolutely love it here. You do get that wrap around feeling and it feels pretty good, but but this I I’m just really just not a fan of um other than that, as you can see, there are three pairs of it looks like it’s a material.

It is a material right, material hooks, but but solomon’s they were very smart. Very smart to implement plastic rings that go inside of these material hooks, which actually does not give any resistance to these strings, which is great. I absolutely well done solomon with that some companies they do this material hooks and just leave them as material and they’re just terrible, honestly terrible, and then we have one pair of clothes hooks here out of metal and then, of course we have the rings here.

Overall, it’s pretty good system. Just if you, if you prefer this, you don’t you’re, not gonna, mind it. Okay, let’s move on to the next criteria. It’s criteria, number four outsole traction and stability. Let’s talk about the outsole, and this I have experienced with this outsole wow, so much experience with outsole I mean I took it through so many different places and it just handles great on literally everything, literally everything um.

There are quite a few boots out there and shoes that salomon uses this or very, very similar in a way um outsole, the basically the pattern itself um. I absolutely love it. It’s just so good and I it really has to do with the balance between the aggression and flatness. If you look at it kind of this way, it’s it’s. It’s really flat the you know the grooves.

The pattern is not too long. It doesn’t stick out in any way and there’s a lot of flatness in here. So whenever you you’re walking or running through a sandy surface, you don’t dig into the sand. You don’t get stuck. Nothing gets stuck in the outsole, which honestly is terrible. If you’re running through a sandy surface, uh wet sand, especially a little bit wet, which there’s a lot in florida here on florida trail surfaces, it gets stuck in the grooves and it just kills it.

That’s it it first of all. It makes it slippery and then it also adds weight. So now you have your light. 13 ounce shoe that becomes all of a sudden, 25 ounce, just because of all the sand. That is stuck not the case here because of this lapis, but at the same time, because there is very, very sufficient amount of aggression.

If you look at it from this, you know from this angle and as you can see, the pattern goes this way and this way both ways kind of on. If to give you a a good comparison, um on um automatic I’m trying to get find the right kind of like a car tire, you will find a similar pattern on the car tire as well. It kind of both weighs groove, so if you’re doing going forward going backwards, still have the same amount of traction amount of grip, the same idea pretty much here and really it definitely does work honestly easily can be in the top three.

I wanted to say five, but top three best outsole patterns that I of all the older boots that I have reviewed on this channel. I absolutely love it 10 out of 10 whenever it comes to the outsole. This is right here, 10 out of 10 okay. So, let’s move on to the next criterion, which is criterion number five temperature. Now, obviously I wouldn’t recommend this shoe for colder temperatures.

It’s not insulated. Yes, it does have waterproofing, but you know if you, if you’re considering it for snowy situations, obviously there’s not much if a snow gets in which it probably will that’s it. You know no point from your waterproofing here. That’s another reason why I think gore-tex here is an overkill uh, but here in florida testing it in 100 degrees, weather walking through the trail for about I don’t know I I got lost in the wood.

I I always do. My gps is bad but walking through the 95 100 degrees weather all day. It was just it didn’t overheat at all, and my feet were not sweating at all in this shoe so definitely definitely light and breathable, and this is one of the benefits of the gore-tex, even though it is waterproof which a lot of waterproof boots, they tend to be on the warmer side.

This is not the case, they are still very breathable good stuff. Okay, let’s move on to the criteria. Number six sizing really quickly, no problems with the sizing. I always recommend um on during my shoe hiking shoes and hiking boot reviews really any kind of boot to get a half a size bigger than your normal shoe size.

That allows you for a little bit of that extra space. That can be very, very helpful whenever you’re going downhill. Remember guys, listen, you’re, gonna! Thank me whenever you’re going downhill, if you do have a little bit of extra space, you’re gonna, remember my words, because I remember these words. Every single time friend my friend much more experienced hiker, he told me he said, listen, half a size bigger than your normal shoe size, that’s it and that definitely works.

Let’s move on to the criteria number seven balance of application. This is where we basically conclude the survival ability of the shoe or the boot. I think it’s a great option for people like myself, who prefer the lightness who prefer the speed, no restriction of the movement who just want to be able to run for miles and miles and just walk practically non-stop.

You can wear this shoes literally for days straight and not have any discomfort and not feel like you know, I’m so tired of wearing something on my feet. I want to take it off. No, this is not the case. Just you can wear it non-stop and that’s really a huge plus for survival. Another huge plus for survival is this lacing system, even though I don’t like it, even though, in my opinion, in my opinion, don’t guys don’t don’t get offended if you do like it, it’s you know it’s fine, it’s personal preference uh, but in my opinion this is a tripping hazard.

If you, however, you put it still hangs out here, maybe there’s a better way to tighten it. Let me know guys uh. I will implement definitely but uh. I think this is a tripping hazard, although, although it’s very easy and fast to put it in and uh, take it off and I think that’s a huge plus whenever it comes to survival.

Definitely the outsole handles any kind of surface literally any kind of surface. I test all my shoes and boots on uh. Let’s see older asphalt, newer, tarmac, wet sand, dry sand trail surface, obviously, where um, the rocky road wet grass dry grass and then the flat surfaces like tile and marble, and this can handle literally anything and some of my winter boots.

I also test in the snow and ice because I do travel around hike around different places, so I try to get those there this, of course I wouldn’t test in the ice or snow, because really it’s not very ice and snow, although, although my the same exact outsole, I have tested in my mid size, salomon um x, ultra 3 gtx, and it without any problems, ice and snow now ice, there isn’t really a lot of stuff that can handle ice most of the times for straight up eyes walking.

I recommend getting external spikes anyway, but this also it the best. It can be really. Okay and the very last criterion criteria. Number eight. This can be a little bit of a turn off factor for a lot of people. Unfortunately, the price, the price and the price is pretty steep. It’s actually 150 149 95. Currently on amazon.

Now the prices may vary based on the color that you get based on the size. The link is in the description below. If you want to check it, maybe they have some discounts going on, but these are only ten dollars cheaper than the mid-size version, and I think I think, for the price with gore-tex in mind. I personally would rather go for the mid-size version to have a full use of the waterproofing from gore-tex.

Now the price is really this expensive because of this gore-tex, it’s very expensive. The gortex technology is very expensive. I think if they took off gore-tex and used their clima sands, salomon waterproofing they could have. This shoe could have been probably, let’s see, probably around 70 dollars, and I think that’s just much much better deal than really.

I just like I said overkill. This is really the only main turn off for these shoes, but other than that- and you know if you, if, if this is your budget, if you, if you can afford it and you’re, looking specifically for gore-tex hiking shoe super light, you’re gonna, absolutely love this you’re gonna love and if you don’t mind the lacing system, this is really really good, really really good.

Channel if you’re new go ahead and hit that subscribe, button, you’re gonna love it so today just want to do a quick follow-up review to the Salomon ex altra 3, mid GTX, boot I. Think I got all the words right on that one. That’s a mouthful anyway! Just gonna have a quick look at this boot see what’s going on here. After almost a year of use and just let you know how I feel about the boot through my experiences with it keywords, they’re my own experiences- and you know everybody has their own experiences.

So take that as you may anyway, let’s get started, shall we right so first we’re just gonna have a look at the overall condition of the boot I’m not going to go through specifics or anything. I’ve covered that in the first video, and you can always look that up, but we’ll see the wear on the boot. After about 8 months of use, I’d say the soles held up remarkably well and I use these boots hiking and canyoneering, and overnight backpacking with a pretty heavy pack.

So you can see it’s already. Some of this is peeling off. Here and get some abrasion there, of course, original laces are still on it, and this is the right boot you see. The toe cap is still in good condition, some of the stitching starting to come out, but also on the back here. That’s fraying out as well and then over to the left boot. Also on the left. Boot that’s coming out and the toe cap is doing well, it’s actually doing a lot better than the Salomon quest for DS, that I, so love and starting to come out.

They’re stitching still holding up pretty good and we’ll have a look at that left. Boot traction which still looks pretty good so overall after some serious use, the boots have held up really. Well, there’s no doubt about that. As you can see, though, they’re curled up and they just that’s the way they’re gonna be, and they pretty much assume this position crawling up like that fairly quickly after usage and I did use these boots with Gators like I said, I did use these boots with gaiters and, as you can see, the boot pulls up and notice that that had the Gators attached, they’re going downhill, there’s a pull.

You can see it’s pulling the boot up like that, and what would happen is no matter how loose I put the toe area open it up a little bit wearing that Gator would draw everything really tight and it would start being extremely extremely uncomfortable, so started not to like that. So the way these is I believe it’s almost a pound per boot or it’s like 1 pound, 15 ounces for the pair. So the light boots quite light.

I, really like that and I think the pair I got obviously weren’t the wide pair and that’s the problem that I found with me is that I should have gotten the wide pair for sure, because the regulars are just too narrow. For my foot, and that resulted in a lot of problems, ending it with me not being able to wear the boots anymore due to just seriously uncomfortable and blistering, so the big problem I had is that in this area it just got too constrictive and no matter how much I loosed in the toe box area, no matter what it eventually just just get too tight and I’d get blistering on my pinky toes here, and it just sucked be honest with you and that happened and with both boots so live and learn.

I, don’t think I’ll be getting another pair of these, but if I ever do, I’ll definitely make sure to get the wide version. So, on the boot itself, you see to tie these you’ve only got these two spots and I mean I. Guess if you’re looking to save money, that’s that’ll work and they did work for the most part, but you really had to keep at it. Well, I really had to keep at it, loosening and tightening and that nature I think if there was just one more tab or yeah for that matter, it would make the boot a little more user friendly.

So to speak, but I mean was it very problematic, I guess not overall, the biggest problem for me was the actual toe box. I could I could mess with this and get it comfortable, but the biggest problem was this area and on both the left and right foot, especially if I wore a gator. You can just see it tightens down and it pulls the boot up. Cinches. All this, that’s just it’s just extremely uncomfortable and like I said I would end up blistering, so initially I really like the boot, because before I did the review I took it on a two-day backpacking trip and I had no problems with the boot got a little tight coming down.

I just figured as much because a very steep decline, but after that, after about another month of usage, the boot just started to come uncomfortable for me and, like I just been repeating. The main reason was the toe box area and now I think that’s just all. If I would have gotten the wide version that more than likely wouldn’t be a problem. But who knows so? I really can’t wear these anymore, so I don’t have any use so I went ahead and bought another pair of the the Salomon quest for DS, which I really like and I’ve been very impressed with.

So those are on the way, and these are going to be chopped. It’s a shame. Price-Wise I think, a year ago, I paid 160 dollars and now I’m, seeing them for sale from a hundred to a hundred and twenty dollars. So it appears there was a price drop or maybe they’re getting rid of older inventory or maybes because of the current conditions in the world, but yeah, sadly, I just I couldn’t I couldn’t get into this boot and that sucks because it looks like it holds up really well.

I used them pretty well and quite a few canyons and some serious hike in on some pretty bad terrain and they’ve held up remarkably well. So that’s drag, but that’s the way. It happens sometimes with boots, so the follow up for you is not necessarily a good review, but it’s just my review through my experience and I really wanted to like these boots and initially I really did, but that pretty much faded and eventually led to me not even being able to wear them because of this area here, which could be my fault if I’d get in the wider version we wouldn’t be here, would we maybe, but anyway, that’s the follow up review of the ex ultra mid 3 GTX Salomon boots, and there you have it folks, we’ll see you next time.

Guys can see I have another pair of Salomon boots to review, and this is yet again. Salomon X altra meet three, but this time this is their newer, IRA version. So, to give you a brief overview, I, you guys mean already now I absolutely love Salomon X altra 3. They are probably the best boots that I have reviewed so far on this channel, my personal favorite.

In fact they were my number one favorite boot of 2019, and this is their IRA version lighter, not waterproof cheaper version of the boot so 130 dollars currently on Amazon. The link is in the description below, as always, runs a little bit smaller than your normal shoe size, then definitely get them a little bit size, bigger, great quality, amazing comfort, let’s get straight into the review.

So, as some of you already know, this review specifically for my ultimate survival boots section. Basically, if this was your last boot that you put on or you’ve been wearing it and something really bad happened and you had to walk, run fight climb, do whatever is necessary to survive in this boot. Would it be a good boot to survivin, let’s find out how to make the judgment we make the judgment based on eight different criteria, criteria- number one, of course the comfort level.

So in order to test all my boots on this channel, I do a three-mile run and then a five-mile walk right after total distance traveled eight miles without stopping takes me about seven to eight hours, usually to complete this, and let me tell you guys, I, absolutely absolutely love Salomon, X altra three in general, they are absolutely amazing, but this particular pair I love it even more because it is actually lighter than the regular mid-sized Salomon X altra.

Let’s find out how much so the exact weight- and this is size- 10 only 16 point six, which is very, very impressive, and you, if you watched any of my boot reviews, I, always say that if you want to be able to run for extended periods of time to walk and not feel anything on your feet, look for something that is under 20 ounce per boot, and this is well below 20 ounce.

So definitely definitely great. There are a few other factors that contribute to the comfort level of this book. Of course it is their inner soles, and here, as you can see, this is their very popular a lot of Salomon boots. They do utilize, this particular inner soles. This is their ortholite and there isn’t really much of the cushioning decent amount of GL enos going here just enough to take on the impact.

If you are running improperly, the ortholite technology itself basically kills the bacteria pretty good I wish they did have a little bit of more stiffness in this shape. That is going to support for the hill, not a big deal still great insult another part of the boot. Of course, after you remove the insole, you do have some extra gel enos going another layer of kind of a nice cushioning padding going inside.

So besides this, you also have some more so definitely adds up. Of course, as you can see, you have way more than enough of the padding going throughout your ankles and on your tongue as well, so you can wear this boot really without the socks and still be very comfortable. Of course, on the inside Salamis they do a very good job.

Making the boots give you that really good support that you do need on your long hikes or whatever, whatever really just covering long distances on foot. Definitely definitely good support and overall is just probably one of the one of the most comfortable boots that I have reviewed on the channel. The outsole is, as you can see, extremely flexible definitely adds up to the comfort as well, so on the comfort level.

I can easily give this boot a very, very solid, 10 out of 10. Ok, let’s move on to the criterion number two, which is proofing and protection so proofing wise. These are not waterproof. Now I kind of wish that Salomon did have a waterproof version now with GTX, but they’re, cheaper, Klima cents, their own waterproofing technology would be cheaper, would be more lightweight than GTX, but still a waterproof version, especially considering that this kind of already has the gusseted tongue, so it’s kind of already there, but, but if you want a waterproof boot, definitely check out their GTX version does absolutely amazing good.

Now, whenever it comes to the protection, as you can see, there is a little bit of a harder rubber going here on the toe, pretty good I kind of wish. It was going a little bit higher, but again, as you can see, Salman did everything they could in this boot to save on the weight and, of course this is a part of it. You do have some very good amount of padding on the ankles, so you do have some support there and protection as well and, of course, your heel is nicely reinforced, which also, besides giving you.

The protection also gives you some extra support. So not much in this. In this part, let’s move on to the criterion number three quality and the design features now quality wise Salomon. They have been doing hiking boots forever. Did they have some of the best hiking boots? I mean you can ask any more or less experienced hiker and they one of their recommendation is definitely going to be Salomon, so they definitely do know how to make boots.

This particular version of the boot as I said, is a newer line from Salomon, so they don’t have a lot of reviews just yet. The link is in description below if you want to check it out on Amazon, not much reviews. But if you want to look at the X ultra 3, the waterproof version, the GTX version, they do have a lot of reviews and you definitely tell that people absolutely love them now whenever it comes to the design features.

This is another difference between this particular boot and the their GTX version, not an IRA version, and this is the lacing system. As you can see, the lacing system here is actually a little bit different. They do have the fabric hugs going again to save the weight, usually I’m, not a fan of those, but because the strings here are very good quality.

They actually slide through very nicely. It’s very easy to tighten this boots and to take them off and of course, they do have their gripping open hoops here on the top. Just one pair, though, that kind of holds your string in place whenever you’re tightening, also kind of adding to the ease of putting the boots on and taking them off, and also, if you’re hiking.

If you want to quickly release the pressure here on the top helpful, whenever you going down especially declining, definitely helps okay, so that was there. Let’s move on to the criteria number for outsole traction and stability, and here so this salomon boot is just as amazing as the regular salomon x, also 3, gtx or whatever other versions.

They have. They all use the same contour grip outsole, and this is really the best. So far that I have personally tried on a lot of different hikes on a lot of different surfaces. I test all of my boots on a variety of surfaces, starting from newer tarmac, older asphalt getting into some grass wet grass dry grass and trail surfaces, sand, dry, sand, wet sand, rocky road flat surfaces like marble and tile a lot of different surfaces, but the this particular outsole I-I had some extra extra thrown at it with some ice with some snow and just a lot of a lot of different hikes on a lot of different surfaces, and it handles all of it.

Just perfectly. Of course, you know whenever it comes to just pure ice, it’s really hard to find a boot that you can just put on and use on ice without it being slippery. So whenever it comes to straight up, ice I always recommend if you’re doing some mountaineering, you know going into the snowy mountain and there’s ice involved, get yourself some external spikes, always but but overall, this is as good as you can get in the outsole, because, as you can see, it has a decent amount of flatness.

It has perfect amount of aggression. There isn’t. There are really grooves here where a rock or something like that can get stuck so that you add up some weight kind of throw yourself off balance. Nothing like that. This is a perfect outsole. Overall, this is the perfect. Definitely a 10 out of 10 here easily. It definitely provides a sufficient amount of protection, even though it is very flexible.

The outer layer of this outsole is still very tough, so great great outsole I, absolutely love it. So, let’s move on to the criterion number five, the temperature. These are not really designed for a winter temperature. They are very breathable. In fact, in some of the parts you can actually see through this particular fabric because they were designed with lightness and breathability in mind.

So this is more of a summer spring autumn or full hiking boot, not really a winter. There isn’t really any installation plus you don’t have waterproofing for winter situations, so definitely not not they’re, not even going to mention it, but whenever it comes to really hot temperatures, you know running covering eight miles in almost 100 degrees, whether they are definitely very nice and breathable.

Definitely perfect. For hot temperatures I would this will be my number one choice for hikes, because I personally am not really I’m, not really that much concerned with the boot being waterproof. If you watched any of my reviews, usually I say that as long as the boot can dry up quickly, I’m fine with it not be in water proof, in fact, I probably prefer another proof, not water proof version of the booth over the water proof, one because water proof you can’t get a water inside and then it’s really hard for it to dry, because it is not water proof.

Okay, so done with that, let’s move on to the next criterion: it’s a tent! The sizing criterion. Number six now, like I, said this boot runs a little bit small, just a tiny little bit and whenever it comes to sizing of especially hiking boots, I always recommend getting at least half a size bigger than your normal shoe size.

So if your shoe size, for example, is 10 get yourself boots in ten and a half just so you have a little bit of that. Extra space definitely helps especially on the declines and with this boot I would probably recommend getting a whole size bigger just because they run a little bit small. Keep that in mind. Let’s move on to the criterion number seven, which is the balance of application.

Basically, if this really was the very last boot that you put on and you had to survive here was a surreal situation. I don’t know pandemic riots right and you had to survive in this book. Would this be a good boot to survive in for to run, to walk to not take off for days? I think it’s definitely an excellent excellent option as long as your psoriasis does not involve anything with cold temperature with some snow with some ice with winter in general, I think if your situation involves, you know warmer climate.

This is definitely a fantastic option and, of course, if you really do want a waterproof boot, you can take a look at the GTX version of this boot, which is a little bit heavier and a little bit more expensive about thirty forty dollars more expensive, but it’s waterproof. So you have options. So the very last criterion criteria- number eight really quickly- is the price hundred and thirty dollars.

If you want to save a little bit on, you know some money and you know really care about waterproofing. This is definitely a great option. Only a hundred and thirty dollars, pretty good price and I think because they’re new were they’re more expensive, so probably in a few months, they’ll probably drop in price as well.

So, if you’re interested, maybe you can wait a little bit and see because that’s usually how it is they come out with new boots.
