Out of ground one thing: I’ve learned is hiking trails or scaling rocky terrain, it’s always more fun. With a buddy trail. Buddy trekking poles help. Take you on an outdoor adventure with stability and comfort. These lightweight poles are made with aircraft-grade aluminum. They are built to withstand intense impact from hiking in the snow mud rocks or rain. My hands stay dry with the moisture wicking core candles. The flip locks make height adjustments a snap.

They are the perfect companion for thousand mile hikes or just casual afternoon strolls. So when it’s time to go out and play, don’t forget trail buddy explore new heights together.

We purchased four sets of trail buddy quality. They had good reviews and the price was unbeatable for what we were looking for. They were, as described in, we were very pleased. Don’t hesitate to buy, they are worth the price we hiked calf, Dome in Yosemite, up the cables to the top and our trail buddies did the hike with us without missing a step.

Not only are these poles phenomenal, but the customer services as well. These were the first hiking poles, I ever bought were split cording and they work great I love the cork bread I now use them for year-round. Hiking activities comes with all the attachments you need for any terrain, a bag, and they are nice and compact, highly recommended.

I. Also love this handwritten note. They sent me in the mail a couple of months after my purchase. These are my first trekking poles. They are durable, lightweight and very easy on the hands. They are also simple and sturdy for any level of hiking. The only issue ahead with mine is that the lower lock flanges snapped the first time using them in the field.

This happened even with being sure the screw fastener was loosened prior to locking it. It is still functional, as I could still finish my two day hikes through shenandoah and retract. The legs without a problem just be easy on them and they’ll be fine. I still love mine in the flange probably snapped, because I wasn’t careful enough with them.

Gosh. Where do I start I got these for a backpacking trip in Colorado and I knew. The hikes were going to be tough, so decided to finally get my first pair of hiking poles. These were so light easy to put together and really held up nicely. We backpacked all around Rocky Mountain National Park, and these got me up Mount Elbert, which is the highest point in Colorado when everything was all said and done, I easily put them back into the case with ease and they barely looked like I used them besides the dirt on them overall I’m very happy with the simplicity, light, weight and durability of these, and can’t wait to take these on more adventures by highly recommend these.

We hike, bring to rim at the Grand, Canyon and I brought these poles with me, knowing that they would likely be points where we encountered ice, snow mud and dirt and all different terrains. What I didn’t know was that I was going to be injured and rely so heavily on them to help me make us through the hike had I not had these poles I would have most definitely needed to be helicoptered out of the bottom of the Grand Canyon.

The poles were lightweight, which was a necessity when you’re carrying a backpack down the Grand Canyon with you. Yet they were extremely durable. They provided stability as I relied heavily and then with an injured knee. There are different tips that you can use at the bottom and, although I didn’t end up swapping the tips out during the hike, they’ve proved wonderful and the different terrains that we encountered.

I highly recommend these poles and we’ll continue to use them for all my major hikes in the future. Also the company reached out later and send a thank you note personally, which I thought was the proof of a terrific customer service based company I, bought these trekking poles for a climb up, Mount Kilimanjaro in Tanzania, I strapped them to my pack, when I didn’t need them.

The collapsible feature is really nice and the height markings on the pole made them easy to adjust to the perfect height which save time when I use them. They were great helping me keep my balance over rough terrain and also helped me distribute the weight of my day pack as well subscribe to my channel for more outdoor product reviews.

Ah, I gotta tell you: I got these trekking poles in the mail and I am completely blown away. Extremely lightweight. Foxelli did a stand-up job hooked them out last weekend on a backpacking trip. They came in extremely handy because the hills were like this non-stop and I had a 45 pound pack on my back, and these were a godsend. Another thing I really like is the cork handle and they have this foam handle. They are pretty rugged.

I don’t they’re not wearing out on me. I’ve used them a fair amount, since I got them nice rounded edge on the top here for palming nice and secure wrist straps. Here they are fully adjustable and they do have those little blocks right here. That kind of slide in place and that’s how it locks the strap they’ve held up really well had no issues with any of these kind of bracket pieces here. These have no play because they have these sort of twist locks, or these clamp locks packs down really small a lot of adjustability on this.

These are going to be a staple of all of my backpacking trips. From now on, they are fantastic. I am totally sold. The poles are going to last and be really good on the trail, I’m going to be using these on every hiking trip that I go on from now on. If you enjoy hiking or backpacking and you’ve never tried, trekking poles give this pair a shot, they’re affordable, and they work really really well, and I promise you you’ll never want to leave without them.

Oh, hey guys, zach here from blue ridge hiking today we’re going to talk about the black diamond carbon distance, flz, trekking poles hope you enjoy the video all right guys. I got these uh carbon fiber z, trekking poles from rei good spot, so they weigh um 11 7 ounces, they’re collapsible, as you can see, pretty cool break down to about 13, 4 inches or 34 centimeters for those uh everybody, that’s not american. They um they’re. Awesome! Sorry, I’m looking at my cheat sheet here so they’re.

Also the maximum length is 43 3 inches. The minimum length is 37 4, um, centimeter, wise, 110 max and 95 to to minimal. Basically you open them up, and then you just pull it tight. Then you get this little lock up here at the top right there and once that locks you’re good to go if you’re taller than me, which I’m about I like to claim five nine. But you know taller than you yeah I like to claim five nine, but that’s a lie. So we’ll um, you just flip this little lock right here it comes up and adjusts them flip it back to whatever height you have it’s got the markings on there, so you can kind of get an idea and memorize what setting you have when you collapse them.

If you want to collapse them all the way down, so me, I just put them on the shortest, and that seems to be the good thing, a good spot for me. Here’s the breakdown on them, click that button slide them in and they fall apart. All ready be put in your pack good to go pretty simple good. I’ve used them for a couple years. Now I love them I’ll use them to help set up my tarp to keep it up in porch mode I’ll. Show you guys a picture of that the we used them on the jmt this past summer and they worked out great.

They helped me from falling a lot going over some boulders, as you guys can see, they got some wear and tear on them there just from uh being used, but um. Those rocks are rough on you out out west, so, but these things have been really good. No blisters, no calluses, my hands, don’t sweat a lot with these foam grips. So I’ve been pretty impressed if you’re new to trekking poles, I highly recommend them or, if you’re thinking about it, I highly recommend getting a pair.

It makes hiking easier a whole lot easier going. Helps you get uphill up. She lets you use some of your upper body, strength to get you up the hill. If you’re going downhill, it takes a lot of the impact off. If you have knee issues or hip issues or joint issues regardless, you can really help alleviate some of that downhill, bounce or downhill compression, so they’re definitely handy. They do take a couple hikes or a couple trips to get used to just having them in your hands and getting to where you’re walking with them and the feel of them and what makes them more efficient.

So I’m not the most efficient with them as far as walking. I know, there’s probably some other videos out there that can help you guys with that. If you ask me, I just use them to whatever feels the best of the time so but like the carbon fiber um black diamond distance, carbon flz dang, it’s a mouthful, so these are 120 to 140 centimeters set. I got and I said, I’m five I like to claim five nine, so uh they’ve been pretty good. I like them highly, recommend them recommend them.

If you’re going to get them, they um. Let’s see they weigh 11 7 ounces, so they’re they’re light they’re, not cheap, though I think they’re 180, 189 dollars at rei is where I got mine. So they are a bit on the pricey side, but they’re super light and they’re durable. So I’m about 220 and I haven’t broke them yet, and I’ve had a lot of pressure on them. Things where I thought that they would probably snap but or break but um. If you got any questions, please leave in the comments.

If you um got any comments, please leave in the comments, so I hope you guys are enjoying our videos hope to get some more gear reviews out there. Please subscribe, give us a like thumbs up. All that good stuff and see you on the next video happy hiking.

Flz, trekking poles are ideal for ounce, counting hikers backpackers or even trail runners. These poles check in at less than 13 ounces for the pair Let’s. Take a closer look at the feature set of these ultra light weight, trekking poles As. You can see now that I have broken down these poles. The pack size is really really small small enough. You could put these inside a pack and obviously you could also lash them to the exterior of the pack. They come in three different length: variations from Black Diamond and in each case they are weighing in at less than 13 ounces, for the pair I have got in front of me.

The pair that maxes out at 120 centimeters There, is a smaller version that maxes out at 110 and a longer version that maxes out at 140, centimeters Packed size here on the 120 is just 14 inches You can shave an inch or pick up just an additional inch if you go with either of those larger sizes At that weight that pack size. These really are living in some rarified air compared to the other collapsible or certainly telescoping, options out. There Looking here at the basically the joint or the space between these two sections.

You can see that there is cording that runs throughout the poles, Makes them again very light. Weight gives them that collapsibility, but surprisingly strong and durable. At the same time, To put the poles together. You basically just align the three lowest shaft sections and ex-tend them. Until you hear positive click, You can see the push button that is in place and now keeping them from collapsing any further. There is then the short section above that that gives you that range of adjustability On, this 120 centimeter length pole.

You have got an adjustability range that runs from 41 inches on the minimum side to 49 inches on the long side. There is an integrated, easy to use external flick, lock mechanism It locks it down, Open that up adjust it to the size. You want it to be And. There are markings here on that upper shaft, section Lock that down into place- and you are all set There- are nice comfortable, but also weight saving grips here on the Carbon FLZ, poles So. You have got some cutaways Again that is going to cut down on the weight, but also gives that some interesting texture and it feels pretty nice there in hand EVA foam exte-rior.

That gives that nice next to skin feel There is an extended portion to these grips so rather than just where you need it up top. There is a little bit of an extension Gives you a little bit of versatility on where you decide. You want to grab the poles and gives you a little something more to grab on to when you are making adjustments. A nice, again, weight conscious, wrist, strap on these poles There is some Velcro adjusta-bility on those straps, so you can kind of dial in the fit there get it as comfortable for you, as you would like it to be And.

That helps take some of that strain off your wrists over the course of a long day on the trail using the poles. I have turned the poles around and you can see the Z pole tips here on the end Is this en-tire section here at the bottom of the pole, Right now. What is in place on the tip end is a rubber tip. These are threaded in such a fashion that very secure They are not going an-ywhere at all. This gives you a nice contact point. If you are using this on rock smoother surfaces, improved surfaces, It is nice for travel as well But.

This can be taken off and re-placed, with carbide tips that Black Diamond includes with each pair So. These can be screwed on in place of the rubber tips and on dirt on trail. This is actually going to give you a better bite and better performance. Black Diamond includes a real minimalist Velcro strap that you can use to wrap around the poles and kind of keep them securely in place. But I did want to point out that, on that, strapping is where there is a very small pocket in which the carbide tips are enclosed.

So. If you are picking up a pair of these, you will know where to find them, and then you have got a nice little storage option there Whichever pole tips you are going with. You can store the other tips in that little pocket. Black Diamond, Distance, Carbon, FLZ, trekking poles that combination of ultra light weight, carbon construction, the range of adjustability that you will not often find on a pair of poles that checks in under 13 ounces. This really is an interesting option for anyone who is valuing that weight, saving and collapsibility.

These are the black diamond distance are perfect for ultralight, thru-hikers adventure, racers or anyone looking for a simple, streamlined and packable trekking pole they’ll give you the best of both worlds by providing a collapsible compact construction, while also being adjustable and not fixed in length. Let’s take a closer look. The distance carbon flz poles are made up of completely carbon shaft sections which lets them come in at an incredibly low weight.

Among the three options. The heaviest comes in just around 13 ounces for the pair and has a collapsed length of less than 16 inches he’s almost redefined light and fast in terms of trekking poles. Black Diamond has beefed up these poles in some sections to address possible durability concerns. Each joint support has added reinforcement which gives it improved, stiffness and overall durability.

They’ve also built up the locking mechanism section to offer increased durability. I also really like how the Black Diamond pulls a deploy. The Z poles have this rapid deployment system based off of their tried-and-true Avalanche probes, which is super convenient for those of us who don’t really stop once we hit the trail. These poles have a Kevlar concealed inner cord which connects to these speed cones.

Basically, you can just grab the top shaft section and pull it away from the handle and the poles will automatically align and marry up. Once you hear the click from the push button under the handle, you know they’re good, to go once the main shaft sections are aligned. You’ve got a simple flick, lock mechanism, which gives you a comfortable adjustment range. This is great for those folks who prefer a length that comes between a fixed length option.

You still get the lightweight, but can tailor the poles for your preferences rather than being stuck at the bottom. You’ve got a neat little tip design. The poles come standard with a non scarring rubber tech tip, but they also include a separate carbide tip which I’ve installed here. The tip can easily be threaded on there for harder bite on trail surfaces, along with that, you get a small performance basket with a little cutout that cutout is designed so that the poles can stay clipped together when they are collapsed.

It’s great for keeping things from bouncing around awkwardly when the poles are strapped to your running pack or being stored away. Last but not least, the grip at the top is made with evie a foam and has some nice comfort features. It has a mini extension, so you can change and adjust your grip depending on the terrain you’re facing there’s a super light, strap to take off some of that wrist stress and that strap can be adjusted with this velcro depending on your size or fit preference.

The evie a handle also has some cutaways, which shed weight, add some texture and ergonomics to the overall structure. This also beefs up the moisture management properties of that soft foam grip. Overall, the black diamond distance carbon flz is a pretty advanced system if you’re looking to do a big through hike or have some aspirations of adventure, racing or ultra running.

These are definitely worth checking out thanks for watching. Hi I’m Margaret MelioGuide And today I’m here to help you make decisions about what type of pole what type of handgrip you want for your pole. What type of adjustments that you want for your poles So? This is a long blog, and so we categorized it in chapters, so you can go right down to the section or just follow right, along with today’s blog So, thanks for tuning in And I’m, going to introduce not every single type of pole, but some of the more common poles that we see on the market today, And.

So let me just share with you one thing for you to consider when choosing a pole is the type of adjustment that’s involved when changing the height of your pole So. There are quite a few polls out there that involve a click-and-lock mechanism when bringing your poles to a shorter or longer height. This is really handy if you are sharing poles with somebody else or like myself as an instructor that you’re frequently changing the length of the pole to introduce the different poles to your clients, The other type of poles that you often see the adjustment change for is a twist-and-lock type And.

With the twist and lock you are going to have to literally you know, loosen it by rotating it one way, adjust the length and then based on the arrows that are indicated on the pole itself, you’d lock it back in place Now the issue I have with the rotational one is that for a lot of clients, if their grip strength isn’t what it once was, then locking it in place hard enough can be problematic in that when you’re putting weight through the pole, the pole will collapse So.

If anybody has you know, we can grip strength, one option here, but you have these types of poles or you like these poles. One option is to take the head of the pole and to place it down between your feet. Grip. It really tight with your feet, take both your hands and that allows you to tighten even more Now one other step beyond this and, depending on the head of the pole, that becomes easier or harder to do.

Some heads have almost like a flare to them and that allows you to get your feet on either side of the flare to hold the pole in place, so they can really get a good rotation on it. A couple of points here is with changing weather in the winter the metal will constrict, and so that will you know if you tie it really tight, and then you know in the springtime your metals expand a little bit.

It might be really tough for you to untwist it So. Keep that in mind. Another thing for you to consider is that, if you’re still not getting quite the twist or the strength that you would like garden, gloves or any type of rubber glove will really help you to either have a better twist on or off on whichever end you need it at So.

That’s one thing to consider: when choosing your poles is just how you end up adjusting those poles. Another thing is that, if you travel with poles, poles can collapse into different lengths So. There are some poles that come just full length, they’re the lightest, probably some of the more expensive poles, wonderful to use, but very impractical to travel with, because you have to travel with the entire length of the pole, which is similar to the lock key.

That only has a little this type of lock key. That only has a smaller adjustment, So you’re having to travel or try to pack a full length. Pole Some of the other poles that telescope will telescope to you, know a reasonable length and then you’ll have in each manufacturer or many of the manufacturers. They have them where they come into three parts: And that will allow the telescoping to occur at a smaller and smaller part, which makes it really practical for traveling However.

Having said that, it’s important that, when you readjust it that you readjust each part of the length so that, if you’re, you know getting an extra two inches on one part of the threefold that you get an extra two inch on the other or an inch and an inch where I’ve seen some clients bring me their poles and they’ve, adjusted it to five inches on one side and two inches on the other, and that doesn’t make for a stable, a pole So.

You want to make sure that all the parts are well-tightened and equally telescoped So. Those are things to consider when choosing a pole and that, insofar as the length of the pole and the travel ability of the pole, The next thing to consider is handgrip So. Each polling company has chosen different materials.

Some people are really partial. You know when walking that they have a cork surface for their hand. Grip is much more breathable, more comfortable, Other people, you know, are quite comfortable with having rubber So it’s really or hard plastic It’s, really a personal choice. The other most important thing, though, is how does your hand sit when you’re pulling and where’s the pressure through the hand so that you know whether, if you have some arthritis, if you have a weak handgrip Those are all things for you to consider And, so I’ll use these poles as an example When walking with the urban pole, the pressure that’s put when you’re doing your Nordic walking is through the outside border of the hand.

So the hand is in a very neutral position like this And that works fine, except for clients of mine that have some arthritic issues in the wrist and that loading can be a little bit. Uncomfortable The grips where there is an actual sleeve to put your hand into are certainly much easier and I’ve used them with clients that have weakened hand grips whether it’s from arthritis, whether it’s from you know missing digits, neurological issues that affect the grip of the hand, So that becomes really handy to have this type of sleeve With the sleeve.

You know you’re placing your thumb in and you’re wrapping the sleeve around And any of the companies that come with sleeves. The sleeves are identified with right and left on the little sleeve portion itself. The. One thing if you decided to go with sleeves to consider is how those leaves come off or on or do they come on and off? Some of them are fixed in place.

With, the more cost-effective poles you’ll have them, but you won’t be able to ungrip And. For me, that’s a big issue. My hands get really cold in the winter. If I use them in the wintertime. Then. For me, it’s really important that I have everything detached I’m, a bundled up. I have my mitts on or my gloves on.

I have this slipped into place with my mitts or gloves, and it’s not till the end that I go out and I clip things in place. And I also find it easier because I get so cold that reminding my readership here that I do live in Ottawa and it does get really cold. But I do get so cold that sometimes I can’t actually grip.

So I really do appreciate the ability to push through with these poles It’s a different, pushing through mechanism that doesn’t you know, you’re able to push through with a flatter hand and not rely so much on having any type of grip available too With, some companies. You know you have this, where they’ve cleverly put a little tag, so it doesn’t slip out So, it’s kind of intuitive, how to put your hand into it.

Whereas in other cases- and this is a Nordics there’s no tag, and so it is easier to slip out. So you have one more thing to kind of do: And when adjusting it, it’s important that you check in the store or when you order the poles as soon as you get them that it’s accommodating to your hand, I am rather petite, and so this one here is very, very big on my hand, despite it being a small and I, try to wrap it around, but it’s like it’s just I find it too big, where my hand is to sit in the sling As.

Well, the adjustability here something to give some thought to is you can make this closer and farther, which is a nice feature that the click on did not have You’re set at one length here, but the ease of adjustability, you know, is done through this mechanism that allows you to draw the sling through or not So, there’s also the style of pole, that’s very similar to a standard cross-country ski pole where you have the loop, But I often see the people, not my clients and others not using the loops properly So.

When using your loops, you want to imagine that you’re a little bunny going into a hole so you’re going in and then you’re going to now be grabbing the little bunny ears that you see here. So you grab the ears and that’s how your hand rest. So it’s in a little hammock And! That’s where the pushing off happens behind you is through the slings of the straps Now.

Just another point on when selecting poles and grips for yourself or the person that you love is that some of these hand grips can be confusing for individuals if their cognitive status is starting to decline. And I bring this up because it was one of the first signs I had when my mom started to get Alzheimer’s is I had bought her a pole.

She was a big walker and the concept of you know looking at something like this and seeing you know just the holes and where to put the hand in and where to loop it. It was all very confusing to her All right. Something else I want to bring up in terms of poles and selection of poles is the shock absorption that the pole is designed with or not And.

So, if you have any issues with wrists, elbows shoulders or you are wanting to avoid issues, then something to consider is how the design of the pole takes into consideration the ground impact forces So, for instance, in the urban pole. They have a divot here that shouldn’t be touched at all. Nor should it for any designs.

They should not be touched when adjusting the pole length One of the jobs that these pieces of rubber have is for absorbing some of the shock coming from the ground up towards your hand, Now. When it comes to this style, then that comes up through and because your hand is not directly in contact. Then you know some of the forces from the ground are lost through the sleeve.

That’s here Whereas in the urban pole. The design here is such that the V that you see here and the rubber tip is where the shock absorption happens. Having said all that it’s sometimes just by looking at the poles hard to decide and as soon as you go out, you will either hear a clanging or you feel a significant vibration happening when you’re walking with the poles So, depending on the surface that you’re going to be taking your poles on to whether it’s pavement versus soft surfaces, then that’s another consideration for you to make All right.

When deciding about pole length, we want to make sure that the pole can be adjusted so that, when you’re standing tall, your elbows by your side, bent at 90 degrees, that your hand is setting or set to the grip of the pole, Whether it be resting on the outside or whether it be position so that your hands and the sleeve are resting again at 90 degrees.

Now. That’s what I use for any of the types of poles, including the activator poles, The only time I change. It is that, if I notice, my clients, don’t have a big arm swing in their Nordic style technique, because the Nordic poles have a booty that sits on an angle. You want the pole to land on an angle So as you notice in the technique, you’re landing on an angle, the pole’s on an angle So.

If you don’t have a big arm swing, then you’re not going to have good interface between the base of the booty and the ground So. That’s when I’ll often lower the height of the pole for clients until either they develop a bigger arms swing, or they just simply keep it at that height because that’s what’s comfortable for them, Be it from you know for any reason that their arm swing is as it is, So all of these things.

You know that you have to kind of think about whether or not these are things that are going to bother you things that are going to allow you to wear mitts versus not wear, mitts or gloves So. Hopefully that gives you some insight into the different poles and choosing up poles.

Trekking poles, Leakey strikes a perfect balance of weight and convenience for trail running when I look at many ultralight trail running poles on the market. I see a few different ways to achieve the lowest weight possible. One is by stripping away features like minimal straps or no collapsibility. Others use incredibly lightweight materials that sacrifice durability.

Well, Leakey designed the micro flash carbon poles for trail runners who need durability and can stand a little more weight for the payoff of convenience and longevity these way in a little over 13 and a half ounces per pair. Let’s take a closer look. The shaft sections are made of carbon fiber to save weight. They are protected by a durable, clear coat finish and the ends of each section are reinforced, so they won’t splinter or crack at the joints.

The grip is really comfortable because it has a natural cork insert the trigger shark straps are a hit with runners because they keep the poles right where you need them without having to grasp with a grip too tightly. The quick release button makes for fast transitions when you need to stow the poles. You get lake ease, trail running tip at the bottom, which includes an attached low-profile basket, and the durable carbide tip to give confident traction on any surface.

I want to show you how to set them up, because the design here is genius. Your goal is to put the segment’s together and lock the central chord. So all sections are firmly connected from a collapsed position, hold the grip and let the pieces hang find the shaft section that is concealed under this silver ferrule pull down on the section. Until you hear the distinctive click and you’ll see this over button, lock the sections into place the first few times you set them up, you may need to tug a little harder than you think you should.

These are fixed length, trekking poles, which means there’s no height adjustability. Once they’re set up, they come in a wider of lengths, so you can find the perfect fit I’m, five-six and I use polls at about a hundred and fifteen centimeters so fold them back down. Reverse the steps by pushing the silver button to release the tension on the cord. Now you can fold the lower two sections and store them away, get out on the trail with the Leakey micro, flash Carbon, trekking poles for the full specs and the latest price click, the link in the description shop and wild comm for great deals on the best outdoor products, with expert advice and exceptional service, whether you’re, hiking running or roaming, we’ll help you get the gear you need for your next adventure subscribe and follow the in wild crew for the latest reviews.
