[Laughter], some of you are fair or like me, you bought a bike over the summer and then reality set in you live in a state that gets all four seasons and you have to make a decision, or are you going to clean your bike store for the winter or or are you gonna ride it through the winter, like a nomad ride, baby ride, snow ish? What I found to get me through the winter so far, my first piece of gear that I needed for my upper body, because in between my upper body and my feet or the only two things I am missing so far from years of hiking and camping through the winter, already already have a lot of base layers to to deal with my leg situation.
But my upper body challenge. This is what I found I found this on Amazon for about $33 I will put the name up here, because I cannot pronounce it. I have seen other people talk about this jacket or from this brand they all pronounce it differently. So it won’t be the person. That’s messing up. You won’t get me that way, but this jacket is really nice. It’s a shell material.
It has some reflective points in clue. You know some on the front two on the shoulder one decent one on the back: it’s a shell material. It has one pocket in front one pocket in back no pockets on the inside. It is a it is a water-resistant tutorial, I’m, really I’m, not sure what how long you can ride this before it starts to fail. Everything fails, no matter what it has a fleece lining in it.
Let’s jump back to the outside the outside is it’s two different materials. It has two orange high-vis material and it has this synthetic synthetic it stretchy stuff, the stretchy stuff, so the material is polyester, and this is a polyester spandex blend, there’s fleece, on the inside overall. For this it’s cheap jacket, the stitching is pretty good. I am six.
Three fish really fits really well, it really does fit really well so the arms or for me to have such a wide wingspan that they fit really nice. The jacket itself – my gut. It’s it’s pretty good and boy. It’s kind of warm in this house and it’s cool sitting. It is gonna, have me sweaty so back at it. The jacket feels really good. This is the breathable part.
Then this I get. It was so you don’t over here just to let heat out when I was right and I promise. I did not feel any I didn’t feel this to be a weak point. At all, I mean it was. It worked really really well I did it? Would it performed really really well there I have no complaints so far about this J I just found that this pocket right here it starts off smooth, but then it gets a little rough right here.
I, don’t know why I can’t really see what the issue is. Maybe it’ll looks like a maybe it’ll get better feels like he’s getting a little better. No, it just seems like the t4n lining up correctly, so quality control isn’t the best. Needless to say, this isn’t a paid sponsor I’m not being paid by this company to talk about it at all. Maybe if I said the zippers, the zippers seem to be like that. Maybe the weakest point in this jacket other than that is toasty warm 33, 33 degree fahrenheit weather, to prove that point, at least to myself that it works really well there. Got in from a really really really wet ride, it’s 20 degrees outside Celsius, which is like room temperature, 72 degrees. So or this thing the pit things are open, both of them left the collar open a little bit, but just put this thing on to see how it would work, as you can see, from totally soaked and the helmet It was as if I wasn’t wearing a helmet. That was rain. Hitting me on the place and gloves are completely soaked and it’s it’s pretty bad I brought a change of clothes.
It is the last day of school like the last day, so I don’t have to dress up real good, so uh. Here’s the jacket on the outside everything’s nice wet on the inside. It’s dry right, so a little bit of sweat and it’s a little bit. It’s too warm. It’s too warm to wear that jacket, because it is really really nice for colder weather, not so great for warmer weather, even with the pit vents open. It’s it’s not super great for higher temperatures, as in anything above 40.
Maybe 45 really raining hard at 70 degrees, not the best thing. Like my pants are completely soaked up to here, because the jacket covers up to here- and my pants to here are soaked but rest in these good shoes and socks, sopping, wet and after wear those all day, but jackets really good for keeping you dry and really good for keeping you warm I, bought it in the fall after a really bad rain when I realized that, oh, my goodness, what was I thinking, why, after 10 years of commuting by bicycle to school, do I not have a decent raining jacket, because I get soaked and it’s pretty bad anyway, this I’m six five and about 210 right now- and this is a this- is a large, the sleeves at 6’5 or actually really nicely long.
The tail! This is it’s a pretty nice tail. It actually covers most of my rear end, and so, even if I’m riding without fenders and I do ride with fenders most of the time it keeps keeps most of your bum dry and the in the body. It’s long enough to get all the way down to a little bit of my leg and keep that dry. It’s got some nice big, wide pit vents, so the vent for the armpit goes out to here. There’s the end of the sleeve and there’s the end of the zipper and it drops down to there partway down the body.
It’s a nice big pit, vent, that’s about 16 or 17 inches long and really seals up nicely at the collar, so nice seal at the collar, and it does look like it’s designed for a ring hood but I just with the velcro things are for I guess what does Sheila pretty tightly on my 17-inch neck and it has reflective material all around reflective piping here and there and on the backside, also more reflective tape everywhere that it’s got a got.
A back, vent back vent and back vent didn’t really seem to do much, especially because I am riding with a messenger bag on most of the time or a backpack, so they’re not as useful as I would like them to be, but really really really great jacket. Liked it a lot- and it’s worked out- super well through this winter I wore it down to about 10 degrees, Fahrenheit, and it worked out quite nicely with like a long-sleeve shirt and a t-shirt underneath it with snow mobile, snow mobile, hood, hood, snowboarding, helmet and a little facemask and some nice big mittens.
But it’s a really great jacket, totally recommend it. It’s a long term investment. For me, it’s got some nice thick material doesn’t move much when the wind hits it. So it’s a pretty good material for keeping you warm. So this is bike physics. My recommendation I mean look at this. Look at the sleeves on this thing. Look at the body legged job of keeping you dry so totally recommend this particular jacket.

Driving with cold and wet hands and feet, it’s really uncomfortable and you end up not riding as long because you’re just miserable in this video I’m, going to take a look at two products from showers paths that promise to solve that problem. They’re waterproof, knit gloves and socks find out what I think in the video welcome back pathless peddlers and, if you’re new to the channel. If you’re looking for information and inspiration that about bike travel, bike, touring, bike packing and bike fishing and definitely subscribe, this channel is for you I recently got a package from showers pass with a couple of their new winter products and two products really bubbled up to the surface, and that is their waterproof gloves and socks.
So I’m going to just jump right in and give you guys my first impressions of the gloves and socks so far as well as some of the things I like and some things I dislike about them. So I’m going to start off by talking about the socks. First off, they look and feel like regular socks. So you no longer have that feeling of a neoprene bootie with some kind of weird fabric. On top of them, they actually look and feel like regular socks. So these socks are actually the second iteration of their waterproof socks and even over that version, this is a big improvement.
They’re softer. They just feel more. Like socks, they’re less plasticky, we didn’t really think they could improve on the first version, but they did another thing. You’ll notice is they actually have some give and stretch to them like real socks, so you’re not locked into like this kind of weird plastic bag feeling thing they’re, also a lot more fluid and easier to get on and off. They feel less like you’re, putting on a big neoprene bootie and more like just like I, said a regular sock.
I will say that the fit of the sock is a touch on the snug side, I’m solidly a size, 9 foot and the medium /. Large version of the sock was just about spot-on, if not slightly on the snug side. So definitely keep that in mind. If you want to layer with a under sock or have a particularly wide feet, I’d consider sizing up. So if you’ve never put on a waterproof sock before the experience is I have to say kind of strange at first, especially if you’re standing in cold running water, it feels like you’re getting wet feet, but we’re actually feeling is just the coldness and when you take your foot out, it’s completely dry and it’s the most bizarre thing ever so.
I’ve used these socks on a couple bike rides couple trail runs and hikes and I’m digging them so far. I don’t find them overly sweat inducing, as you would expect from something that is waterproof. I do feel that they are fairly breathable in that respect, for biking, I feel like the sweet spot in terms of temperature is around the 40s and 50s any warmer. You might sweat more and any colder. It might not provide enough warmth. That’s primarily for biking on hikes and trail runs I’ve found that you could actually push it down a little bit lower into the upper thirties and still be good to go.
So now. Let’s move on to the gloves and just like the socks, these gloves have a amazing knit feel and they really don’t feel like any different from your regular knit gloves. There might be a sense of a little bit more structure and that’s from the waterproof membrane, but otherwise to the touch. It feels just like a regular knit glove and like the socks I found that the sweet spot in terms of bicycling is about 50s and rain for these and rain below that you’re kind of pushing it just because there isn’t that much insulation, but again for an activity like trail running or hiking.
We’re not creating a lot of your own windchill that you can definitely take it down lower one thing I really like about the gloves is despite the fact that it has a waterproof membrane in there. You have good dexterity so on the bike, no problems shifting and I’ve actually used the gloves, while fishing. So, while fishing I found that the gloves maintained their dexterity, I was able to fish successfully manage lion, do roll casts and double hauls without the gloves feeling like they were interfering, I found when I was fishing with larger flies like streamers and tying.
You know kind of easier, simpler knots, the gloves weren’t a problem, but when dealing with smaller dry flies, I did have to take the gloves off to tie the knots. There would be a couple more features, I’d like to see for this to be a fishing specific love and it’s primarily kind of a longer gauntlet style glove, and this is because, if you’re going to land fish or you drop something in the water, like you do when you’re fishing, it would be nice to be able to reach down a little bit deeper without going over the cuff of the glove and getting your hands wet.
But again, that’s on my wish list for a fly-fishing, specific glove. I think the same could be said in terms of a fishing specific knit waterproof sock I’d want it a little bit higher, maybe slightly below the knee, so that I can wade out just a little bit deeper without getting my feet wet. So that’s it for the general features overview and my general kind of likes about both the socks and the gloves. There are a couple minor dislike and specifically with the glove whatever a rubber grippy material that they use does not play well with smartphones.
So you do have to take the glove off to navigate your iPhone or your Android phone or whatever, and well last point about the gloves. If you are gonna use it for an activity like fishing, the heat, the knit material does tend to be a little bit snaggy, but that would be the case with any knit glove. So definitely be aware of that. If you’re gonna use it for multiple sports other than that, that’s really it for the dislikes the socks, I’m, absolutely loving and having no problems with it’s really going to be a matter of how long it keeps its waterproofness.
It’s really kind of hard to determine in just a couple of weeks of youth. So if you’re looking for a waterproof glove and sock that doesn’t feel like a plastic bag, then definitely check out these offerings from showers. Past I think the thing I love about the most other than what they’re waterproofness is that they’re great for multi-sport activities for biking for fishing for trail running for hiking, because they don’t look sport specific, so I think it’s definitely a great piece gear to have in your arsenal, especially if you’d like to just generally play outdoors and want to keep your feet and your hands dry and warm.
So I may update this video in a couple weeks after I get a better sense of durability, but so far I’m loving them I think you guys should get them. Hey there idk Fred here, it’s like 5:00 jacket, ready for work and I got this in the mail yesterday. So here we go. We’re gonna use this one. It’s a wind Vinh, it’s a military-style jacket. It looks a little poofy on the inside. It’s got the fake inside lining kind of stuff. That’s poofy! I should make it nice and soft and warm I ordered it in a medium size. So it fits snugly against my body, we’ll see. If it does I don’t know it does feel a little big but yeah. So here we go. Let’s open it up.
Okay, there we go wind, ving, wind, bend, I, don’t know, maybe it’s a little bit too big or poofy for work, and it is 100% cotton. The lining is a hundred percent polyester and they send me an extra-large, but it’s a size medium. It’s a UK, large, a! U s, medium, but right here on this tag, see if we can see these okay. It says medium on this tag right here. But if you look at that little white tag over here, it says extra-large or three extra-large I, don’t know, let’s open it up and try it yeah Wow yeah.
It looks a little big see if we can find a tag in here. So we’ve got this one that calls it a medium, but okay, it is medium. Maybe I should have gone with small. It looks nice, it feels nice. The inside lining is very soft right here down through here and then that continues. No. No, it doesn’t quite continue into the arms and the arms. You just have that polyester lining right there and then this edge stretchy sleeve it said one of these pockets was fake, so that one’s a real one here on the top left top right, one, no, that’s a real one, which one’s my fake decorative.
That has no point on being in a jet like this. That’s a real pocket. Okay, real pocket, stitching overall I, have heard a couple things in the comments about it being a little iffy. The only thing I am seeing so far about the stitching is that we do have a couple of loose threads right here at the bottom. But beyond that, I’m, not seeing anything to say, there’s a problem with it: let’s unzip it all the way and take a look on the inside yeah. This jacket may be a little too big to wear to work, we’ll see.
Yeah couple people were complaining. Oh that’s pocket! We got an inside pocket right here on the inside left breast section right here, right right to match, sat so at least we have one inside pocket nice. We have little loop here fill sturdy couple. People complained that it was ripped out in a stitching on the inside of these areas. He doesn’t look ripped down the stitching. No, it doesn’t look perfect on some of it, such as by this pocket yeah. There is a couple loose stitches, but it’s not bad.
Looking, not bad enough. That I would return it at all. It’s decent looking care of this side, no problem here how people said they received it with thrips in this polyester right here. That is not what I’m, seeing so I’m gonna, throw this on now and see how it fits okay, no, actually that everybody complains along arms on it, but that fits really well on my arms on a medium now I’m running out of time before work here, my camera is angled very odd. I could stand in the middle there we go I’m in the middle.
Then we get these to tie in around the waist. Let’s see how well it fits zipped up. Wait is the shoulder: it’s real pocket -! Yes, we can close it you’re closed no real pocket on left. We’ve got a real pocket here on the left, no real Park on the right, yes, I know left and right screw it. Okay, don’t really like that! I! Don’t know that goes right up underneath my chin. If you can see that and then I say otherwise, it feels okay up there. I would just want it just blow there like a collar kind of it’s just a little odd, then right here you can undo that one.
There is loose stitching here on this left one there – hanging out thread just not clean cut. It’s not like it’s loose coming apart, so it’s okay and just another one right here same spot same thing: it does feel a little bit nice and warm and it folds over right there. Now it comes undone to lots of lovely little bits like that. Then here on our shoulders, we have a hat. So then this is good to cover up your neck. I guess when you want to go full Eskimo style, I’m just full covered, and then this can we? Yes, yes, we can’t.
Then we can button down our entire front, I believe Oh, okay and then you can cinch in your middle right here. Some little bowtie or something yeah feels odd I’m, doing it little leather pieces caps to cover no where’s nother, one uh-huh, okay. So each side of these has these little leather caps to cover the edges, and it does fit very nice on the arms. The body is a little bit big in the middle here. The bottom actually fits fairly okay. You can’t really see it here, but it does fit. Okay on me, it’s just the middle.
It’s a little too big they’re, expecting you to be a little bit bigger, I’m, not, but that’s why they have that cinching nice, like this, so I like the look of it I, don’t need the hood on right now! Oh wait. Can we undo the hood? Yes, there’s a hood zipper, maybe by the way the reason I’m getting another jacket is my other one got stolen, well, I know who stole it. I know where it is and I know why they stole it, but I think I’ll. Let me keep it. They like snuggling with it. Well I cannot get that hood.
One done I’m gonna have to take the jacket off. Take the hood off I’m, not taking the hood to work. I will look ridiculous. Yeah I can hear myself again. I could not and I’m really really out of time. Guess we have a hood zipper, hiding underneath right here, yeah come on! No, of course, you’ve got some little plastic piece just hanging on here: yeah, nothing to cut it with well. I got a lot nice whoo, that’ll work, you know, Clippers, okay, no wonder was between I’m done. They put a piece of plastic to keep it from coming off.
So here’s our hood. It’s actually a fairly thin hood. It’s just supposed to be really soft and cozy because it fits very snug over my head here, yeah, so I’m gonna throw this to the side. I’m going to put this back on ooh I, really like this jacket, I, really like the look of it, the feel of it and though the arms don’t have the same soft stuff. That’s here on the inside lining they don’t feel too bad they’re, not too loud, I! Don’t like the plastic. You feel that’s why I got this material feel I, don’t like plasticy jackets.
All that much. But that’s just me. Yes, this will soak faster in the snow, but I. Don’t care well, I! Think we’re keeping the jacket we’re gonna, take this off nope we’re not gonna break it that way. Um! You know Clippers again dead. Ah yeah I think this is well worth the purchase. I’ll! Try it out this winter. Maybe I’ll do a review on it later, but for now I like it even if this neck one is trying to choke me just a little and they think I’m fatter than I am okay. There we go now. I’m gonna go have fun at work in the cold kind of ish.
I, don’t know, know this jacket, I won’t be cooled, I’ll, probably be hot. Oh there is a loose thread right here or is that a hair nope that’s a thread, so there is a couple loose threads here and there, but it’s okay overall. So thank you for watching. Canvas classic and fashionable military lapel jacket. My size is medium. The reviews online are five star. It’s super comfortable and awesome modern. Looking I love the cut and style. The fabric is 100 cotton. It feels really great and it’s really flexible. The interior body lining is 100 polyester. When you go outside, you can stay nice and warm because it has double closure, a full length, zipper and snaps on the bottom and top it’s a super durable jacket.
The outer fabric has a nice washed, look to it solid and well done threads everywhere. The features attracted me: it’s got a no fade. Look to it. So it’ll, look like this forever. It’s breathable and durable, exterior shell makes it really nice for working outdoors and comfort. It’s got multiple pockets too one two on the outside three four on the outside and a large capacity inner pocket.
Where I generally put my phone, you can put your hands comfortably in the pockets. There’s plenty of room for your keys tools. Anything and the cuffs on the bottom are adjustable as well with snaps, so you can tighten or loosen as desired. The collar can be worn up or down it’s perfect for daily wear riding hunting fishing, camping, traveling, whatever you do outdoors machine washable in the normal cycle and then just hang it up to dry, you’ll love it get one.
