the last 20. Or 30 years especially in hard baits. And crank bait the shad rap is still a super effective faith the reason for. That’s because what made. It great in the first place it’s a balsa bait but. It has a natural swimming top motion. You know that bait in the water the way. It moves through the water that’s not been changed in the last 20. Or 30 years it still resembles a shad better. Anything else out there. And that’s hot waffle. And cold water this makes fish bite. That won’t really find a lot of other things. Whenever I’m trying to select colors for a shad rap. Ican keep it pretty simple the original shad. And the original crawdad for my number. And number two colors. Whenever I go to a new light those are the ones. That I’m going to stick with first. And I’m gonna see which one’s the fish react to better than I’ll kind of start fine-tuning it from there so. You can always fine tune your colors on. Anybody of water but original shad. And original crawdad there’s no way you’ll go wrong with those two. Whenever I’m trying to determine which size shad rap I’m gonna use as a. Few factors I look at. Everybody wants to think the very first thing. That comes to mind is. When you’re trying to catch bigger fish. You want to go with a bigger bait for a shad rap for me that’s not necessarily true the biggest bass I’ve ever caught on a shad rap is on the little number 5. That made for me it catches fish with. Nothing else will but a lot of situations. Ido like to go up to a number 6 from a number 7 but for me.
That little number five like. Icaught the biggest batch I’ve ever caught on the shad rap was on. This bait seven and eight pound fish. Ican make fish bite. Whenever I can’t make them fight a little bit long as your bait. Now pretty much always use fluorocarbon line. Either six or eight pound test fluorocarbon. You want something with a small diameter that’s really gonna help. That bait way out there. And then help get it down reach those bishops are trying to target the sink. And quality of fluorocarbon with its low stretch is. What I really liked about. Whenever I’m fishing the shad rap. Most of the time it’s gonna be on water that’s pretty cool say less. Then 55 degrees so my presentation is gonna match. That my presentation is gonna be pretty slow for the. Most part I’m retrieve speed. And the way I fished. That bait it’s gonna be. You know somewhat exaggerated it’s gonna be a little bit slower but.
One major thing whenever you’re fishing the shad rap in cool water is the way. You stop that bait. Icatch a lot of fish Paul’s on. That bait during my retreat. Whenever it come up on a bigger rock maybe a piece of brush a stump. Anything like I want to pause. That bait it hangs there for a second then begin my retrieve again just want to match your speed of your retrieve to the water temperature but anytime. You feel that bait hit. Something a little bit different. You have to pulse it that’s. When you’re going to get a lot about my tip for fishing a shad right for dummies it’s the only way you’re a diamond. If you’re not fishing it’s such an easy bait to use an easy basic fish on your crazy.
If you’re not out there fishing with it.
Vass Elite Series Pro Pete pause. And I’m gonna tell you I’m gonna tell. You about a bait today. That it’s almost forgotten it’s a bait that’s 25 to 30 years old it’s its a bait. Iuse religiously and it’s called a bandit 200 just look at how deep. That bait he knows. That is real I’m telling you. That 200 bandit old school that’s been around 2530 years. It catches them just like. It is made yesterday. What an incredible fish catching bait. Ican’t tell many fish. Icatch on this bait in a year that’s. One of the good colors. Iused to that’s called Butterbean green. Iactually named that color myself. This little bait right here it’s got a rounded bill. You know it’s tried-and-true comes out of the package running straight every single time it’s got great little hooks on their very sharp. It just made to catch fish that’s. Ican say about I mean it’s just a unique body design. Ican’t tell many thousands of fish. Icatch on it’s a really good effective bake. Whenever I’m catching in schools of fish. When I’m fishing around timber. This bait will come through timber with. Some of those others warm. Imean I’m not scared to throw. This bait in a brush pile I’m not scared to throw. It in grass I mean it’s just a really effective bait. It catches a lot of fish so. You guys give this a try the next time. You go fishing you won’t regret.
Hey guys chuck russell here with fishing pleasures. Iwas going to go to. One lake but it was too full of people so. Ihad to go to a different link instead. It was a good crappie like. Iwas going to go to but. You know things happenI’ll have to go there a different time but anyway down here my friends doc. Icaught lots of fish in. This lake to so love to see. What happens hopefully. Idon’t lose any Bates to pike today dink cranking mainly for crappie but. Some bass tube that also means okay. We have the band of 200 series on yes yep first fish of today. And possibly a shelter Oh.
All right I like to go over a kind of take. These are Charlie’s shrimp guess. You could use another brand but. How to make them weedless that’s like that’s like. One put the antennas on let’s go over. They come in the package. This hook could come out pretty easily take. This hook out you’re gonna need a little bit of. Iuse twenty or twenty-five. And a piece of 84 the weed guard. This high seas it’s nice and stiff turn stag on their visible underwater take a little piece of 80 bite. That the inside of the curve is facing towards. You bite it with your pliers. And bend it backwards. This is a piece is way too long but. It was just a piece. That was laying here on the bench, so I’m going to use. It just like that so it’s bent backwards like. That take this push. It through the backside the eye of the hook like. That is gonna become your weed guard right there just like. This is way too long I’m gonna cut a little bitter. This off, so we ain’t gotta keep fooling with. All right you have. That point right there cut a piece of let’s say.
This is 20 20 30 depending on the water clarity. You enough so you can cut. It off later take and push. It up through the back of the eye right through the center just like. That let me zoom out on. This a little bit so make a loop big enough in. This 20 say almost a diameter of a softball honey in a baseball. Or soda like that just so. You can make your snail on. That so that’s what we’re gonna do we’re gonna make a snail on. It zooms back in all right. You got your tag in here of your 20. Iknow it’s kind of hard to see. Because it’s on a white table but take the loop. And start a snail going forward start at the back. And go forward so go 1-2-3 for five that’s a gracious planning you can probably get away with four. And just take your tag in. And pull down on it tighten up. That loop a little bit but not snug. Yet just wait on this time push your fold. And you’ll notice there’re little barbs Bakey / barbs on these hooks push.
It forwards right up too there. This tag in is on the bottom so roll. This over just like. You have to this point pull up on a little bit the mainline side. Now pull down on this side. And pull them good snug yeah there. You go let it just bites. It rights there I’ll pull up on. That’s what you got. You got your two whiskers. You will of the shrimp right here like. That cut off. That 20 nice and close fold. This 80 up cut it off nice and close so that’s. What you got you can take. This piece of 80 that are. Now your actual antenna. You will of the shrimp zoom out a little bit. Ijust feed this back through same exact hole. They came out of right up too there. And there you have. You can form these anyway. You want what I like to do is bring these antennae back a little bit to order just past the barber to hook cut them off nice and clean for them anyway. You want to just like. That so that’s what you have. And I’m telling you folks. You can throw that up in.
Anything you want to. And bring it rights out. You want to these are clear fluorocarbon. Even color these take a red sharpie marker. And give them a little color just like. Nothing much more effective. You can throw it up in the marsh grass up inside of roots. Wherever you want it out no problem. All right give us a twirl let.
What everyone’s going to need. This lure you know the regular jointed shad rap is probably. One of the walleye fisherman’s favorite lure of. All times now you’ve got a shallow version so. When you’re fishing under like five feet of water you’ve got. That small lip so anytime. That water gets you know less. Than six seven feet. You really want a lure with a small bill. This is going to really help. You hey it’s got rattles be it’s jointed so it’s got. That real tight aggressive action see it’s got. That bill so it’s only going to dive about four. Or five feet so you’re non scantly taking off weeds overtop of weed beds. You aren’t Geron constantly taking the moss off. When you’re banging the rock so it’s going to dive the right depth. And it’s going to cast like a bullet it’s going to troll like a monster. And it’s going to turn a fish on with the rattles in the action. Where the strain of shallow shad rap has play. You can work you want. You know it’s its got a ton of action sometimes those fish are going to want. It nice and slow just making a bite. Some things that injured minnow look. You know I’m twitching it a little bit sometimes. You might want to burn. It to turn them on so it’s its. You got to let the fish tell. You which way they want. It catches fish I can tell. Ibasically caught the biggest muskie of my life with. One after it for like three minutes true story. II mean I’m sold on.
Ithink they’re just a tremendous lure I’m going to have every color. And every size and I’m going to have an arsenal joint shallow shadows there. You go that’s proof positive the shallow jointed shad rap needs to become part of your tackle box.
