Today I’m going to talk about a new shoe for us called the Norvan SL. Now the Norvan SL has been designed for the trail runner who is pushing the boundaries of the sport.
Now there are three things to remember about the Norvan SL. It’s a high-performance trail running shoe and has enhanced climbing and scrambling capabilities. It’s very durable for that field of play.
Now let’s start with the outsole. The quintessential properties of an outsole to have great adherence to the ground are the lug geometry and the compound of rubbers that we use. We’re using a mega grip in the heel and a ergo grip both from vibram in the forefoot. We have an advanced chevron pattern with flat lug heads to be able to grip well on wet rocks but also penetrate into the ground with its 3.5 milimeter lug depth.
The midsole of the shoe is made with an interesting type of material it’s 85% eba and 15% polyolefin. We also use our fixed adopt a fit liner to cover the foot and wrap the foot seamlessly and give you an excellent fit inside the shoe.
The Under Armour Men’s HOVR Sonic NC Running Shoe feels like you’re hovering at high speeds. UA HOVR technology provides what Under Armour calls a “zero gravity feel.” Basically, its Energy Web midsole consists of compression-molded mesh that practically eliminates impact step after step. The result is a shoe you can really tackle faster speeds in without fear of striking your heel harder than you’re used to. These weigh in it just right around 10 ounces for guys and about eight ounces for women, so they’re fairly lightweight, however. On my feet they didn’t really feel notably lightweight, they felt just kind of pretty much average. Not too heavy but also not like the most lightweight shoes I’ve ever tried on.
They also have an eight-millimeter heel to toe drop. So if you’re not really familiar with that. What that means is that there’s a differential between the heel and the toe. There’s a lot of people out there that really speculate on whether that matters. If that’s good or if that’s bad me personally I tend to strike a little but more in like the middle of my foot. I’m not a heel not a crazy heel striker. And I don’t run on the balls of my feet so for me and like anywhere from 8 to 12 millimeters is about perfect. Anything higher and it’s just kind of weird for me and if it’s a minimalist shoe that’s just not my jam. I can’t run a minimalist shoes. I always get like my calves end up so sore and I just can’t go longer distances and minimal shoes but if you like minimalist running shoes. These are not going to be for you because they just have a lot of cushioning and again they have an eight-millimeter heel to toe drop.
They also do have removable insoles. These are some of the first like flagship running shoes. From under armour that have removable insoles and something. I’ve talked about in the past that I wish they would have had removable insoles. I like to throw in. Sometimes aftermarket insoles like from super feet at least. You can do that now on the Hover Sonic.
Now in terms of comfort in the fit of the shoes. These to me fit just a little bit small so I did go up a half size. Obviously sizing is different by brand and by person but I think they’re just a little bit small. I think they had really good lockdown, like I never felt like I had too much heel slippage. I never feel like I could move around too much in the shoe. So I do think the lockdown is really good.
They have ample room in the toe box too you’re seeing that on a lot more running shoes like it didn’t. Tt wasn’t really a big thing a few years ago now you’re seeing a lot more room in that toe box that’s. So you can really spread out get a little bit more surface area. People don’t like having those toes real jammed up well. It was a pun right toe jam. Anyways people don’t really like having it all bunched up there and you do have ample room now on the hover sonic and then one word on the heel here. So a lot of people complained about the heel system on the speed form Gemini 3s which was previously like their high-end running shoes. I really like them but I sort of sight with people a couple of months into using them and I felt like it would rub against my heel and rub it raw. Sometimes I don’t have that same issue with these shoes. I never got any blisters or anything like that. So I do like the comfort in the heel locking system that they have a little bit more on the Hover Sonic.
