We have compiled a TOP-20 list of what you might need for your running activity.
Lightweight, stretchy, and breathable for your fastest runs, weather-resistant for unpredictable spring days—the Mountain Hardwear Kor Preshell Hooded Jacket has everything the dedicated runner needs to get out and enjoy those first days of muddy trails and snowless sidewalks. This performance-ready hoodie is made with Pertex Quantum Air, an ultralight ripstop fabric that balances air-permeability with weather-resistant protection, keeping you protected from light wind and rain while maintaining breathable comfort throughout your run. It’s got a full-zip design that lets you control your levels of ventilation when the temperatures warm up, and when you decide that the day’s gotten balmy enough to shed your jacket completely, you can stuff it into its own hand pocket and stash it in a pack or pocket.
This is the mountain hardwear men’s. A Therm hooded jacket Polar Tech Alpha Insulation to keep you toasty warm weather resistant yet highly breathable. 50 tenure playing.
We’ve nylon stretch fabric. That’s a mouthful articulated fit seams with an underarm gusset and articulated elbow to keep your moving and diving super easy. Some loops to keep your sleeves right where you need them.
I’m wearing the mountain hardwear men’s super choc stone hooded jacket this is a. Super lightweight soft shell jacket that. Has a lot of going on in a very small and. Streamlined package it is built with the. Double weave soft shell material and that is a blend of nylon and elastane. Materials so you’ve got durability you’ve got reliability it’s got wind and water resistant and it’s extremely. Stretchy which is something i really like about it this jacket would be great. For cooler weather adventures climbers. Hikers backpackers anybody who need a lightweight soft shell that’s going to move with them and not inhibit their movement so it’s a really nice material in that regard it does have a upf 50. Rating so for climbers high in the. Alpine it’s going to really help protect against that harsh uv light or those uv. Rays in that thinner air so it’s really. Great for those situations overall got some really cool things going on does have pockets pretty simple pockets to zip hand pockets down at the bottom they. Are soft lined with a mesh material so. You can open those for venting if you need to, but they do provide a little bit of comfort for your hands as well a little warm too for what they are and how light this jacket is you’ve also got. A chest pocket and that chest pocket is pretty sizable for some items there and it also doubles as a stow pocket so you. Can actually reverse the jacket on itself stuff it into that chest pocket. Throw it into your pack and you’re on your way packs down really small for what you’re getting and gives you some reliable performance there as well so you can have it with you at the ready the jacket. Does have a hood and it is a pretty low profile hood meant to go under a helmet. So it can give you that wind protection that water resistance above but still go. Under a climbing helmet if you’re using it that way so overall it’s got a pretty. Nice fit and feel to it up there is an elastic closure around the outside. So you’ve got a cinch there and it’s. Kind of just built-in always there but it’s going to be comfortable it’s going to protect you in those harsher environments the jackets not fully waterproof so keep that in mind but it will provide protection from a light rain there is a dwr finish. It is going to shed some of that light moisture but in a serious downpour or even just a heavier steadier rain you’ll. Want a full waterproof shell so keep that in mind with the super choc stone put a jacket there is some elastic. Around the cuffs and something i noticed around the cuffs that would be really great for climbers myself being a climber is that mountain hardwear kind. Of eliminates the stitching in the palm area just under the wrist and what i. Could see that being great for is just simply climbing because you’re going to be rubbing that portion of the jacket it’s inevitable but lacking that. Stitching there’s less of a chance that you’ll blow out those seams and kind of ruin the jacket in that area so just a smart little aesthetic tweak to. The jacket that makes it a lot more functional as well i am wearing a large. Right now and that’s normally what i wear and mountain hardwear gear and it is fitting appropriately it is considered a semi tailored fit or an. Athletic fit so it does come a little bit more snug I’m just i just have a. T-shirt on underneath so i definitely have room for a light fleece or a synthetic insulator but overall still provides great movement and mobility because of those stretch materials so. Great fitting piece super stretchy super. Mobile pack able wind resistant water. Resistant and uv protection built in the. Mountain hardwear men’s super choc stone. Hooded jacket is a great jacket for the. Cool weather adventures thanks for. Hi this is craig geology with review of the mountain hardwear ghost whisperer hooded down jacket for pro like here calm i would put this jacket up against. The patagonia ultralight down hoody but. I like this jacket better for the following reasons number one it’s lighter weight and number two it uses a more intelligent or a higher performance. Baffle design than the ultralight down hoody from patagonia and it’s got a what. I feel is a better design around the. Neck area for a hooded jacket let’s tell you a little bit about this jacket comes in 7.9 ounces or 223. Grams I’m wearing a size medium the size. Large was cut a little big for me it’s filled with two point eight ounces of 850 fill power q shields a hydrophobic. Down q shield is similar to the sierra. Designs dry down they’ve talked about earlier it’s where they take each individual plume, and they treat the. Plume with a dwr durable water repellent. To make it hydrophobic so that the balloon or the plume can withstand the. Presence of moisture and not collapse you know down works by when it’s inside a baffle it’s the loft or the. Springiness of those individual down plumes that create the dead air space inside these baffles i haven’t played. Around a lot with the q shield so i look. Forward to testing that out a little bit more in the future and kind of validating just how well it works and. Some other things about this jacket it’s using their whisper or fabric which is a seven janiero by changing your fabric it’s a really lightweight fabric and. It’s kind of just a really nice hand — it’s very compressible the baffle design this is using about a 1.4 inch. One point three six inches sized baffle so. A good baffle it’s a uniform baffle. Versus some of the other products up here that are using these variegated. Baffle designs the draw cord it’s a very. Small draw cord in the waist but it does have a draw cord for the waste it’s a hidden draw cord it does have two. Zippered pockets on it. And what i like about this jacket is when you zip it all the way up it. Creates a nice tight fit around the neck helps seal off that neck area, and we. Noticed that when we’re looking at these jackets underneath the ar with the flir thermal imaging camera that this jacket. The hooded jacket sometimes when you zip them all the way up they still leave a bit of room around the neck and you can. See that the heat escaping through the neck on hooded jacket, so they all work. Pretty well once you put the hood up it’s when you just have them fully zipped up with the hood down that we can tell a difference so i really like this and it just uses a standard kind of. Stretch binding in the cuff but it’s a. Little bit loose fitting that’s the only thing i might say about this jacket is the cuff could fit a little bit. Tighter so that wraps up the review of. The mountain hardwear ghost whisperer. Down hooded jacket it’s a jacket that i. Really like it works well as a layering. Piece for a mid layer but also you can wear this standalone as an exterior piece as well just a great jacket for. $350 from mountain hardwear thank you for watching our videos thank you for subscribing to our channel and stay tuned to this channel for more videos in the future.
Adam here forget out their magazine today i am bringing you a comparative review of two down-filled jackets by mountain hardwear Over here we have the ghost whisperer down hooded jacket and on this side we have the stretch down rs hooded jacket let’s break down what it’s similar first. At first glance you think that these may be the same jacket both uses similar fabric the rs is slightly thicker fabric in the whisper but both are extremely thin and feel like they could rip easily. But let me tell you they’re surprisingly durable after extensive use i have yet. To fiber rip and either of these jackets now each has a drawstring waist and each. Has similar down fill and provides. Similar warmth 750 down fill for the rs. And 800 for the whisper both have mountain hardwear’s q shield down which is treated to be water repellent however both jackets soak throughout their two hours in a wet snowfall finally both. Have down-filled hoods which do not have draw strings, but they do stay on tight even in high winds and that’s really where the similarities end the whisper has an active fit which is. Really tight to the body where the rs of the performance fit which is more room through the waist shoulders and arms for reference I’m five-eleven 185 pounds in both jackets are size medium the whisper. Is the world’s lightest down hooded jacket well at least that’s what the mountain hardwear website says so don’t quote me on that but it is extremely light it only weighs in at 7.7 ounces. Where the rs is also very light but it’s. Almost double the weight at fourteen point nine ounces to keep the weight down the whisper has a minimalistic design and only two zippered hand pockets while the rs has two zippered. Hand pockets a zippered chest pocket in the internal mesh pockets the cuffs are. Both very different drs has a traditional small outer elastic while the whisper has a unique design with the down fill all the way to the end of the sleeve and it has a hidden elastic inside the cuff to keep it in place surprisingly i found this was much better to keep the cuff in place during activity than the rs cuff a neat feature of the ghost whisperer is its ability to be stored away in its own pocket it folds up to the size of a large water bottle which makes it super convenient on days when the temperature or your activity level maven the rs is a version of mountain hardwear’s new stretch down line and to. Be honest i didn’t find there to be much stretch in this fabric however i did find it to be pretty comfortable at the end of the day i found the stretch down rs jacket to be great for leisure activities like walking the dog and hiking as well as general wear around town i also have had many compliments on. The style of this jacket on the other hand the ghost whisperer jacket has not had any compliments for the look and that may be due to the color but it is a way better choice for someone who’s looking for a down-filled jacket to be active in i have found this also to be. Useful as a mid layer under a hard shell jacket because of its nugget let it sit from the outside these jackets are very similar however depending on your use they are quite distinct so hopefully this video helped clarify that for you know if you’d like more information on either of these two jackets or any other mountain hardwear products please visit their website listed in the description below You.
Bringing comfort and energy to your daily training runs is the Adidas Ultraboost 18 Running Shoe. Whether you’re sneaking in a few miles before work or heading out for a weekend long run, you’ll have a smooth and responsive ride thanks to Adidas’ Boost cushioning. The Boost midsole returns your own energy to deliver a springy stride, and works with the flexible Stretchweb outsole to provide a smooth transition through your whole gait. The outsole also gives you reliable and hardworking grip on both wet and dry surfaces, ensuring that the weather won’t determine when you can or can’t head out for a run.
Key to the Ultraboost 18 is its Primeknit upper, utilizing a comfortable and breathable fabric that adapts and stretches with your foot for a secure but non-restrictive fit. This shoe also has a wrap-around design with a built-in heel counter that’ll give you the perfect balance of support and comfort as you crank out quick miles on your local roads.
You’re not as much of a trail runner as you are a root wrangling, rock slaying, mud eating speed demon, and the Salomon Men’s Speedcross 4 CS Trail Running Shoe gives you the supportive stability needed for tackling trails without a fall. Designed specifically for trail running in wet climates, the Speedcross 4 CS features a ClimaShield membrane that offers weather-resistance from mile one to mile thirteen. The anti-debris mesh upper features synthetic overlays for torsional support, and a DWR treatment provides extra water-resistance.
Salomon’s SensiFit design offers a snug, sock-like fit, which means you can bid adieu to hot spots and chafing caused by too-big-shoes. Additionally, the QuickLace system provides a speedy and secure alternative to the traditional lacing system, and the lace-specific pocket makes sure you don’t trip over a drawcord. An Ortholite footbed and dual-density EVA midsole ensures shock attenuation and a responsive, energetic feel underfoot that assures miles of support and comfort. Not to mention, the recently updated Contagrip outsole provides serious traction and stability on mud, scree, and slush.
With these shoes, you get the better grip you need. So these have contra grip which is Salomon. it’s super sticky really good friction on rocks and just gives that extra support. Be sure you’re going downhill understands and so for that is just for me.
They were kind of the reason why get through these shoes and keep wanting more. There are a few other nice little features there which I really like Salomon shoes have quick lay systems. So if we’ve had problems of laces at school these are really good.
They just simply come buckle like so and then once you tie it just fits really neatly. In this little compartment at the front this is really good for quick adjustments on the trail. They’re really comfy. I find that the cushioning is really good around the sides of the shoe. It’s a really support and cushion the foot. So for me it’s got that extra kind of grip.
It’s got the quick lacing, it’s well cushioned and also I have quite flat feet. So these are quite a high heel drop which is this part here the difference between the back of the heel and the front of the foot. This has got quite a high heel drop and that’s just I find quite supportive on my flatter feet cuz I said they’re not for everyone but as someone who use these from pretty much the beginning of racing and longer trails.
I really recommend them as a great start out shoe. So you get on with them see how you like them but in terms of if you want to step up that grip. These are a really good option and I guess for me shoes are probably one of the most important bits if not the most important kit.
Whether you’re headed to the gym to get in a quick couple miles on the treadmill or taking on your circuit workout for the day, throw on the Nike Men’s NikePro Heather 3/4-Tights for ultimate comfort while you train. If tough trails and steep switchbacks are your cup of tea, then look no further than the Nike Men’s Air Zoom Wildhorse 4 Trail Running Shoe to ensure support, traction, and adaptive comfort as you hoof it over relentless terrain. The Wildhorse features a revamped look, but its core construction remains the same. The lightweight mesh upper maintains structural support and won’t obstruct the innate breathability that the structure mesh is known for.
And since a trail running shoe is rendered sort of obsolete without a rock plate, Nike equipped the Wildhorse 4 with a rock plate for protection against jagged rocks and stray roots that might be dead set on taking you down. Additionally, the Phylon midsole attenuates shock for a cushioned, comfy feel, while the Zoom Air Unit in the heel further absorbs impact and provides great response for a comfortable and smooth stride. And last but not least, the sticky rubber outsole is enforced with over-sized lugs for aggressive traction and exceptional grip to chew up any trail you set out on.
An incredibly thin polyester fabric makes the Arc’teryx Men’s Velox Comp Short-Sleeve Crew breathable enough for the most demanding aerobic pursuits. Although thin, this shirt was built to last so you can rely on it run after run and hike after hike.
We’re running in the desert right now. So it’s really lightweight, really breathable. It’s really comfortable to weather.
I’m running with a packer just out for an easy cruise and the trails and it uses the phasic fabric so although we’re in a drier climate now we got two more humid spots.
It really wicks the moisture nicely. It spreads it across so the material dry is really fast. I can’t say enough about how much I’ve enjoyed wearing it all summer in the mountains that have been my go-to piece all year for sure.
It may not look like it, but the Men’s Tradewind Performance T-Shirt is the most technical tee in Vuori’s line. This is not an accident—Vuori purposely designed this shirt to deliver maximum active performance while maintaining casual style that keeps you looking good while you run, train, or do yoga. The lightweight fabric is extremely stretchy for unrestricted mobility, wicks sweat away from your skin, and dries quickly. It’s also constructed with micro-perforations to enhance ventilation, so you stay cool through your toughest workouts.
It takes an awful lot of cold to banish you to the nightmarish world of the treadmill, so you’re gonna need a high-performance piece to keep you warm as you cruise in ever-dropping temperatures. Fleece-lined sleeves keep you warm enough to fight off the cold but don’t overheat, while a media-compatible pocket lets you jam out on your run.
DryVent technology in the body keeps you dry when freezing rain or snow interrupts your workout, and with FlashDry treatment in the fleece panels you’ve got wicking performance and quick-dry capability for the moisture you create as well as the stuff that comes from the sky. You’ve also got multi-sport versatility with abrasion resistant fabric letting you attack the trail or take it on chilly climbing trips, and thumb loops helping you layer easily during ski season.
It has a stand-up collar for additional neck protection and the zip neck offers ventilation and layering options so you always stay comfortable. The fit is close to the body for a streamlined look plus the harness friendly zip chest pocket keeps essentials secure and easy to reach.

It’s also got some moves on the sleeves to make sure your sleeves don’t go anywhere if you’re doing calisthenics. Built for muddy switchbacks, slick descents, and rutty ridgelines, the Topo Athletic Men’s Hydroventure Trail Running Shoe delivers a precise fit and comfortable ride throughout the course of your trail run. Thanks to the Hydroventure’s breathable yet bombproof H2O Proof membrane, the microclimate of your foot remains dry, preventing fun-breaking hotspots and blisters. The responsive EVA midsole ensures just enough cushion while the rock plate discourages bruising and the high traction sole provide ample stability and traction.
We are reviewing new lightweight trail shoe that mt2 eight and a half ounces in the men’s nine. It`s really lightweight, some good flex. What you guys are really doing design wise is still a good tight fit in the heel and the instep. But doing much more of an anatomical slightly wider toe box.
Really, how the foots actually shape? I think that’s really one of the unique things about the MT two is that I like to have a roomy toe box. Your toes can spread and splay but a lot of times in a shoe like that. You have a shoe that fits a little sloppy in the back. The level of security to feel fast and nimble. I think you still need to feel really connected in the back half and through the waist. The shoe so I like that sensation that puts tight security through here but lots of room up front for your toes. Better sense of control. I was blown away by how light this is.
He’s dog great trail tread can handle couple miles of road no problem but really good grip underfoot. But it was really to me like how light this loves. Specially the level of cushioning: 23 millimeters in the heel, 20 in the forefoot. So you’re doing a little bit of moss. That’s three millimeters you’re not completely stuck into a zero drop and you’re right building.
You know also about traditional shoes and the 12 millimeter right. Everything for us is really between that zero and five millimeters. That’s where we have put everything so this kind of falls in the middle of that is a three millimeter cool and you guys have a full range of shoes. I’m kind of at the other end of the spectrum. You have something definitely more protective. So this is a shoe, so the one we were looking at was the m22. This is a shoe called the Hydro Venture. It has some similar characteristics so again some kind of platform 23:20. But in this case you can see inside here that it’s got a rock plate. Actually molded into the midsole the rock plate itself. Sorry to slide out a frame. That is really cool the rock plate itself has a flex screw here. Molded tpu like material through here. So you don’t have rocks or roots x-raying up through the sole. We open it up in the mid foot. So you have a little bit of torsional flex. It doesn’t force you to roll an ankle or twist, doesn’t add a lot of weight. This shoe still comes in at about nine ounces.
One of the key characteristics in this shoe. This is a waterproof shoe. We use a vent waterproof membrane here. The membrane is actually laminated directly to the mesh. So unlike some waterproof shoes, you’d build a full bootie. And you cement that bootie to. The effort can make it a little hard well, in this case.
The upper is actually quite supple and soft. So it allows the foot to still move and work in a natural way well. It also makes the shoe lighter. So again coming in at just barely over nine ounces. An issue for a shoe that has a rock plate waterproof technology with the same fit characteristics you described in the MT.
Suggested retail in one thirty on the water place. That’s what I was also surprised with was the price. Point is so competitive a hundred dollars — I think like in our store. I think that’s going to be one of our least expensive shoes and but as well. Probably the best value probably expected live with a huge outdoors.
I hope so you know I think there are ways that you can make shoes and deliver a great value without always having to have some shoes. Require higher price points are because there’s so much there but I think that our responsibility is to make sure. We deliver a variety of price points and that you always have a shoe that’s an entry level shoe that helps people get into the sport and then as they progress then they can work their way up the ladder enjoy running.

As a piece of advice, always follow the manufacturer’s washing/drying directions. After paying out for good running kit, the last thing you want to do is wreck it the first time you wash it. Some fabrics are specially treated with water-repellent coatings and need to be washed or dried carefully so as not to wreck or shink them.
