This is the Salomon men’s Sense Ride trail shoe. The shoe delivers elite level running performance at a price that won’t break the bank. It borrows design features and tech from Salomon’s Elites lab line but uses materials that allow it to be more reasonable on the wallet. This shoe isn’t designed for any specific objective. It’s more of an all around a trail runner. A lot of folks might look at and see a perfect everyday trainer.

The upper is a flexible mesh with a welded synthetic overlay. You get plenty of structure around the middle of the foot to keep you in place and the toes have all-open mesh to breathe and move around freely without restriction. It has Salomon’s endo fit construction which basically mimics a sock all the way down. It wraps around your foot and provides a nearly seamless fit. There are friction free lace eyelets so durability is enhanced there.

The quick lay system also makes the shoe much easier to put on and take off so you don’t have to waste any time tuck away the excess lacing right in the lacing pocket in. The tongue you can see just by looking at the shoe. That it’s got tons of cushioning. The compressed TVA midsole gives you plenty of comfort and cushion and there’s also a dampening compound in the midsole as well. The combination of these really protects the feet well after a full day of rock hopping on the outside.

You get a con to grip rubber outsole. This sole provides a great balance of grip and stability on variable terrain: wet, dry, rocky, or groomed trails. The grip is just enough without being overly clunky and route to the trail head. You like to warm up on pavement before hitting the dirt. These can suffice for that as well. The logs are multi-directional so you get good braking power and acceleration without being too slippery. Definitely suitable for most trail running objectives or training runs before a big race. And then tuck away in the mesh pocket the sense of fit design pulls. These overlays around your foot to cradle. And support so there’s a closed hugging fit to cut down on hot spots the 3d stretchy air mesh rounds out the different materials in the upper. Hey everyone welcome back to my channel. I’m noel and I’m here with another shoe. Review this time we are looking at the. Salomon cents right now on primer group. Which is the group that brings salomon into the philippines sent me the shoe to. Review i did warn them though that I’m. Not necessarily a trail runner and why i. Didn’t tell them was actually that trail is my krypton ite i had to find a venue. To try this shoe out because this is a. Trail shoe and you can see that it has a. Definite trend which is great for trail. But i liked about this also were the. Laces which were speed laces already and. You could hide the very end of the laces. Underneath this little flap on the. Tongue the first time i used it actually. I used it to track and set up run i do. Have a trekking shoe from a different. From a different shoe company but i was. On the trip and i didn’t want to bring two different pairs of shoes so i just. Brought the cents right with me and i used it to track and then the next day. To run i went to the southernmost tip of. Phuket island which is called from deb. Gate and yeah for the most part actually. The very top of that pump that gate is paved over and there’s a platform of. Viewing platforms but then you can also descend towards the rocks and the. Coastline which is the actual southernmost tip and this was something. That i really wanted to do but every time i visited please i always had the wrong footwear so yeah having the sense ride with me on. That trip really facilitated this whole. Downhill trek that is the southern there. And i came from up there obviously you. Still need to pick where you put your foot down in any get any trail venue. Like that but it because i had good. Shoes some of the worries were lifted away. From my mind there’s something about having a good shoe that backs you up and. Helps you stay sure footed that there. Really made that trip down towards the. Southern was two very enjoyable even. Though i wasn’t traveling too fast oh no i was tempted to go run down but the. Thing is i was alone and of course if. You’re alone you don’t want to take too many risks and i wouldn’t mind using the. Shoe again if i were gonna go on another. Mountain or another hike or another trick the second time i used it was the. Next day when i just went for a run on. Roads as well as the beach and again the. Sense ride performed really well. I would run across a field like to make. A shortcut and that meant not running on. Paved roads but the sentence rate also took me admirably through that area it. Was really good because i just felt like i was never going to slip and then when. I took it onto the sand it didn’t sink. Into the sand it just stayed right on top unfortunately i didn’t have breakfast trying that run so i had to cut the round short but it was pretty good one thing that i did notice. With the since ride however when you’re. Running on concrete is your kind of feel. Like it’s a very chunky shoe it’s not a. Very light shoe i think in its class I’m. On trail shoes it is quite light but. As city running shoe it might be it. Might be too much shoe in any case now i. Feel like i have to find other venues to. Run trails in but i probably need to get. A little bit more practice first so if. You guys know any um trailer off-road. Paths within the city of metro manila. That i can try these shoes on and. Hello youtube’s that keep in here back for my first share of you today I’m. Going to be talking you through my go to trail shoe the salomon cents ride I’m. Gonna start this video out with an objective sort of run-through of the. Shoe talk through its technical. Specifications just go over some of the. Features first and then i will say what i think about it obviously since it is my go-to trail shoe i do like it quite a. Lot but i will go through why later in the video so to start things off on the. Salomon website it says this shoe has an. Eight millimeter he’ll draw stack height of 27 millimeters in the rear and 19 in. The front does it weigh 275 grams as. For size i don’t know what that is but. I’d imagine in my size 11 maybe the size. 11 and a half it weighs you know low. 300s so it’s a lighter weight shoe but. It’s not ultra lightweight by any means. it’s got some decently large lugs on the. Bottom nothing terribly aggressive but i. Find that it grips the ground quite well. Especially for dusty rocky environments. With looser terrain it has this pull tab. Sort of lacing system that helps secure. The foot quite well i find in this. Little pocket here where you tuck the. Pull tab wants it to secure its but not. Really — there’s nothing terribly crazy. Or innovative about this shoe it’s just a really solid concept its upper i had. Some nice welded overlays a good mesh. Material but it’s not gonna be something that’s gonna be too out there it’s just. An incredibly solid shoe all around and. It doesn’t feel. Like it’s trying to do something new or. Gimmicky maybe forsaking its performance. Well doing so i find it has really good. Stability i never feel like my foot is. Shifting around too much nor do i feel. Like my foot is to secure it just your. Foot stays in the shoe very well it can. Be Sometimes a bit difficult to get the. Exact tightness that you want with this. Pull-tab lacing system i find when i. Pull it wants to tighten this upper. Parts of the lacing more than it wants to tighten the lower parts which is the same thing with a normal laced shoe but. It’s just something to keep in mind it. Will it’s not gonna just pull close and. It’s gonna be perfect initially what i. Will do is i actually won’t tuck the lace into this pocket until i have both. Shoes tightened to an appropriate amount. And then i will tuck it in so that way i. Can make adjustments when i have both shoes on as i said the lugs are quiet. Secure quite grippy without being. Intrusive I’ve run on the road I’ve. Actually run on the track I’ve run some you know faster intervals in the shoe and i never feel like I’m being hampered. Too much by the fact that it is a trail shoe so if you ever are running to a. Trail network trail system it shouldn’t. Get in the way. Now for the mower the most important part of the shoe in my eyes is the cushioning the ride it has just solid. Feeling that’s if i were to sum up the shoes just solid it’s not you know too. Light too heavy to anything it’s just solid right in the middle this shoe has good cushion but good responsiveness i. Would feel comfortable running any. Length ultra marathon on this you know i maybe have a bias. Towards a lighter shoe but i feel like if you have strong feet and a good. Stride where you strike on the mid foot. To forefoot, you could run as long as you. Want to in this shoe but then you can also take it for shorter trail runs where you’re really tearing up the trails and going fast my only real. Complaint with this shoe is the break-in. Period it’s not uncommon for a shoe to. Have a break-in period obviously but when i first got this shoe before i had. Broken it in obviously i was really underwhelmed for maybe the first 10 or 20 miles it just kind of felt cheap but. Then once you get over that 10 or 20 mile period it’ll really start to shine. It’ll start to become you know an incredibly versatile shoe that you can. Do just about anything in its durable. The shoe I’d imagine has 150 to 200 miles on it. And i think I’m gonna get double that out of it no problem it just keeps on. Going and like i said it’s just a very. Solid all-around shoe as far as the fit. Of the shoe goes i talked about earlier. How the upper really locks down your foot heel there’s no heel slippage i. Didn’t find the shoe fit particularly. Narrower particularly wide it’s just very neutral in that category and i. Think can accommodate a lot of people’s. Foot shape especially it has a somewhat. Stretchy mesh not too much stretch very. Little stretch but it does especially with this pull cord type of lacing. System does allow for a little bit of. Give if you find yourself outside of the. Width that this shoe is intended for. Closing out i am zach keaton this is. Review of the salomon cents ride it is a versatile all-around. Trail shoe that will allow you to do. Whatever you want pretty much with very. Little limitations you can run on the road you can run on the track you can run on the trails and. It’s just a great all-around shoe that solid has good durability and i don’t. Eight and a half ounces in the men’s nine.

So real lightweight some good flex. What you guys are really doing design wise is still a good tight fit in the heel and the instep but doing much more of an anatomical slightly wider toe box. Really how the foots actually shape? – Yeah, I think that’s really one of the unique things about the MT2 is that I like to have a roomy toe box. Your toes can spread and splay but a lot of times in a shoe like that you have a shoe that fits a little sloppy in the back, the level of security to feel fast and nimble.

I think you still need to feel really connected in the back half and through the waist and the shoe. I like that sensation that puts you know tight security through here but lots of room up front so your toes better sense of control. Yeah, I was blown away by how light this is. He’s dog great trail tread can handle couple miles of road. No problem but you know really good grip underfoot but it. Was really to me like how light this loves specially the level of cushioning 23 millimeters in the heel, 20 in the forefoot so you’re doing a little bit of moss that’s three millimeters.

You’re not completely stuck into a zero drop and you’re right building you know also about traditional shoes and the 12-millimeter. Right everything for us is really between that zero and five millimeters. That’s where we have put everything so this kind of falls in the middle of that is a three millimeter cool and you guys have a full range of shoes. I’m kind of at the other end of the spectrum. You have something definitely more protective So this is a shoe so the one we were looking at was the MT2.

This is a shoe called the Hydra Venture. It has some similar characteristics. So again some kind of platform 23:20. But in this case, you can see inside here. You can see that it’s got a rock plate, actually molded into the midsole. The rock plate itself. Sorry to slide out a frame that is really cool. The rock plate itself has a flex screw, here molded TPU like material through here. So you don’t have rocks or roots x-raying up through the sole. We open it up in the mid foot so you have a little bit of torsional flex so it doesn’t force you to roll an ankle or twist, doesn’t add a lot of weight. This shoe still comes in at about nine ounces.

One of the key characteristics in this shoe – this is a waterproof shoe. We use a vent waterproof membrane here. The membrane is actually laminated directly to the mesh so unlike you know some waterproof shoes. You’d build a full bootie and you cement that bootie, to the effort can make it a little hard. Well, in this case, the upper is actually quite supple and soft. So it allows the foot to still move and work in a natural way and it also makes the shoe lighter so again coming in at just barely over nine ounces.

Hey guys what’s going on today I’m going. To be reviewing the topo athletic ultra. Ventures this shoe is pretty fantastic. If i had one way of describing this shoe. I would have to say that it is the love. Child of a an ultra and a hoca it does. Come in at ten point four ounces so it. Might be slightly on the heavier side even though ten point four ounces is. Pretty stinking light there is a five. Millimeter heel to toe drop so you’re starting off at thirty in the back twenty-five in the front and that’s where i would say it’s kind of emulate soar resembles a hookah but it does have. That traditional foot shaped or wider. Then normal toe box and tomiko toe box keeping that great toe and alignment. Letting that kind of be your anchor point for your foot and letting the other toes splay out in here this shoe i. Really can’t speak too much on anything. Bad about this shoe i haven’t had a bad. Experience and it this particular pair has 310 miles on it and then i have a. Brand new pair over here which I’d be. Hard-pressed at any point in time of my life to buy another pair of the exact. Some shoe and the exact same color so. Anyway that should tell you something this shoe has gotten me through a lot of. Long runs i kind of got the shoe to try. Out for a training cycle for double. Dalek ultras unfortunately i got really cold in the race and so anyway i made it. 100k out of 100 miles but it had nothing to. Do with the shoe it’s very money on the trails that day very cold very wet the shoe outperform. Itself it comes with a v boom as you can. Of the metatarsals give me a little bit more airflow and breath ability maybe a. Little more drainage new feature also and a bunch of the new trousers it’s gonna be these gills alright they’re. Basically drainage ports so whenever you. Get water in your shoe every step from that point I’m gonna act kind of like you’re forcing the water. Our kind of pumping the water out of your shoe with your own steps i have. Noticed i have gotten these shoes very wet have noticed that they do drain. Really well and also the new upper as. Well as this has given the shoe a more. Comfortable temperature anyway some. People have complained about taupe was being very warm this shoe especially. With the new porthole insole I’m. Getting a little worth of light marketing in there with the new. Porthole insole has actually become a lot more. Comfortable temperature-wise i did get the shoe right when the weather was changing so it was still kind of warm and it’s felt fine through coming up. Here now in the 30s all right not too. Cold here in virginia anyway there is a. Gator attachment in the back so it’s kind of weird looking topo brandied. Gator attachment here got hook little. Places for the hooks and I’ll show you. With the gators on these so I’ve got. These hooks that kind of walk in there and then the gator like a normal gator. Pulls over and it attaches too wherever. You need in the front it’s a lot easier than this when you have one anyway so there you go. With the gator attachment and that is a. Topo branded gator attachment these would work with any other type of gators you would just have to do your traditional velcro and i actually did so. In velcro on these so i could use them on the magnifies are the magnet flies. Twos anyway alright. The tongue is fully gusseted I’ll show you on the other pair that son just. Fully gusseted meaning it is sewn in and. So that prevents a lot of the sliding around of the tongue and bunching and. Creating hot spots and i really haven’t noticed any hot spots in this shoe the. Upper is three pieces sorry i think already said that but anyway the eba. Upper or sole is three pieces you’ve got. Kind of little bit firmer sole here or. Aba here a little bit softer in the back and even though this would traditionally. Mean that this is a stability shoe or a guidance shoe this piece is still just. Maybe a hair firmer than up here and i. Have a neutral foot and this i haven’t felt like there’s any guidance or anything like that this shoe again is called the ultra venture meaning it’s out it’s going to. Be marketed towards someone who’s going. To be out there maybe more on an ultra run or ultra marathon and when they’re. Fatigued their foot kind of hits the. Ground a little bit differently so it’s kind of it might give you a little bit of guidance but not enough to where it’s gonna throw off your gait i have like i. Said 310 miles in this pair of shoe and so normal wear and tear i did really. Really try to destroy this pair I’ve got. A little wear back here I’ve got a. Little wear right here where there’s a. Couple like a couple holes for me but this is about the time when I’d be retiring a pair of shoes anyway and for a trail pair that i literally beat the heck out of it’s surpassed a lot of my. Expectations i don’t normally run in a five. Millimeter drop i don’t know why i just didn’t say this earlier but this she. Doesn’t really feel like a five millimeter drop it’s taken a lot of stress off my Achilles because it is a. Five millimeter but at the same time there’s enough cushioning in it to where it almost feels zero ish drop I’m not. Gonna say it does because i don’t want to give you the impression that it is a. Zero drop or it would crush down to being a zero drop like the heel would be that soft but it does kind of. Feel like it hooks on to your foot a little bit better than a lot of other shoes out there is enough cushion here in the back to give you a nice heel. Cup and kind of lock your heel down in there now i would give it you know a. Couple strides out there to let it adjust before you tighten it down anymore if you did feel a little heel slipping one other thing i really wanted. To point out there is no rock plate in here and there are a couple cutouts to give it a little bit more flexibility but if you do step on something that. Sharp there’s enough cushion in here that’s gonna give you that protection and you might feel it but it’s not gonna hurt you’re too much to the point where you get like a stone bruise i have stepped on very sharp things and how it. Had any issues and then one thing that i really enjoyed about this shoe was with this aggressive outsole i stepped on a. Couple routes this way and had i not had. This type of little slightly you know. More aggressive outsole that they’ve been putting on the new trail line for. Toboe anyway i might have slipped off. That but that route but i actually kind of caught it and so i was able to prevent some foot rolling because of that it did take me a little bit of time to get used to if you’re not traditionally used to running in a more. Aggressive outsole because there’s just slightly more clearance underfoot so. You’re getting the 25 and 30 but then. You have an additional maybe 5 millimeters here and i have run on this. On-road a few times i haven’t felt the grip so i feel like. That there’s enough cushion in there to that you do run over pebbles or whatnot you’re really not gonna feel those so that’s that should be a good sign anyway and try not to be too long-winded on this but this is a great shoe i highly suggest it guys got any questions pop them down in their bottom you want. A hikers and runners i wanted to share. My experience with my topo terra venture. Trail runners i guess they are I’m not really a trail runner I’m more of a hiker but i had a problem with finding. Shoes that had a wide enough toe box for. My wide foot and i tried on all the. Major brands at rei and this is the one. That i found that fit me the best for a wide foot i was a former brookes. Cascadia wearer but the last i don’t. No 4 or 5 models of brookes I’ve been. Unable to wear because the toe box is too narrow so these are a little cut. Shoe they allow your ankle to flex naturally they’re lightweight they weigh. About 10 ounces they’re ventilated they. Have a nice full mesh upper with some. One just came out in February of this year and i wasn’t gonna review it but it’s so different from previous iterations i thought it was definitely worth taking a look at in a little more clothes depth so if you’re familiar with the previous model you know it had this little bit of posting on the inside here just a little bit of extra density so that if you are rolling to the inside if you are somebody who tends to overpronate on the inside of your foot it’s just designed to rebound you back keep you nice and neutral it’s one of the lighter shoes and the brooks family and that energized classification designed for somebody who wants to go a little bit faster maybe someone who needs something a little bit lighter good for gym and such like that well if you’ve been following what brooks has been doing over the past years they kind of gone away from their traditional stability and picked up things that have. These little guardrails along the side you’ll see on both inside and the outside it has just a little bit of plastic on the inside think of it as. Those bumpers and bowing right so again it’s just — just to reiterate what they’re talking about if you’re going bowling you’re bowling strikes you’re never hitting the bumpers right but let’s say you go up there and you have that errant fall that bounces off to the side these guardrails are designed to sort of bounce yourself out and put you back into neutral, so they’re now I’m adding it on almost all of their stability models shoes so what we’ve got now is a couple of different tiers and in the lightest and fastest version we’ve got the ravenna 10 so previously. We were really only pulling this shoe for somebody who again was over pronating here so now by adding these. Rails on both sides we’re able to pull. This shoe for virtually anybody a couple. Of the other changes that we’ve noticed here is we’ve added a much better fitting bootie on the inside you know you can almost kind of tell by looking at the previous models as well it’s just a little bit narrower through the mid-foot they’ve definitely widened that shoe up so by adding a little bit of extra width to it putting these gar rails on the side this shoot can be virtually pulled for almost any of our customers and it is definitely wide enough that people that we used to have to special order some shoes for maybe have to pull up to a different size you can almost fit in this perfectly i had some brook shoes in the past where I’m 11 and a half standard but i have a. Little bit of a wider forefoot i wouldn’t consider myself a wide foot person i definitely won’t measure that but you know when you’re doing some longer miles your foot swells a little bit it’s nice having an extra width and i had some models specifically like the glycerin where i would have to go up to a wider width not with this shoe it definitely fits true to size and gives you plenty of width on the side you know we’re pulling this shoe for people that are really going up from doing five k’s up to really half-marathons if you’re a veteran half-marathon or what’s nice about these guardrails as well is that. When you’re starting to get a little bit tired as we see you know you’re running all day you’re doing let’s just say you’re doing a 10k and you’re a neutral striking runner you’re never really moving to the inside of the outside but what happens when you start getting tired your form starts getting sloppy having these railings on the sides really just reiterates that nice form and pushes yourself back in what they’re trying to do is take pressure off the knee and I’ll tell you as a guy who’s had tremendous amount of it band syndrome over the years and constantly supinating and under pronating to the. Outside having that little reinforcement to push me back in is definitely a nice added advantage what they’ve done now is by creating a couple different tiers with this we can listen to our customers and find out sort of what their background is what they’re training for, and we’ve got options in all different categories of cushion with these nice structured railings on the side, so we have our nice and our energized in our light springy category we’ve got the ravenna tan again awesome new shoe then. We can pull somebody into like the adrenaline which came out last year but it has that same technology and more of a mid cushion so somebody who might be in a ghost would be a good candidate for somebody in the adrenaline maybe somebody who’s doing a longer run somebody who needs even more cushion and maybe even a little more structure we can go for the big boy and pull out the transcend which is again does great. Guardrails but it’s more like a glycerin with support on the sides, so we’ve got three different tiers of structure now. Shoe so but i found this point that’s a. Lightweight for brooks shoe so that’s. That’s why i quite liked it and with. Brooks i found their cushioning to be quite soft so i personally have quite a. Neutral pronation have it in mind the. Stability that this shoe offered i guess. With shoes, it’s a very personal or. Subjective matter the shoes on the run. Repeat website which is quite a useful website that i used to look at shoe ratings actually received reasonably low. Score of only 82 but whilst in the shop. I tried various shoes as i suggest you. Do and i am personally quite like this. One it’s i found it to be quiet. Comfortable and also quite supportive as. Well as been reasonably lightweight. So run repeat is a shoe review website. Which i find very useful as reading the. Reviews and the comments gives me a. Rough idea of which shoes might suit me. Heather then at the end of day i suggest. Obviously trying them all on at the shop. And then finding the one that you’re personally comfortable with and that for. Me these were the ones that i liked. Yes i my feet are reasonably narrow but. I found that if yeah some of the. Comments that i read on this shoe was that if you have a wider fit they found. Or they experienced rubbing on the sides. But i don’t have that issue so I’m quiet.
