So shooters then reload there’s. Now a fortune cookie 45 LLC can be cheap in the hot land zone. Ithought I’d do a video on an update to the Coldwell chronograph. This chronograph now I’ve used. It old maybe about eight times. It has served very well hadn’t let. Me down been very handy. This carrying case is neat to take to the range. This strap around your neck under your arm. It doesn’t take up any space as you’re moving stuff to the range. Now the best way to pack the chronograph is by putting the sky screens with the rods facing. Each other so there’s no chance in the rods snagging the carrying bag. Or causing some wear. And tear on the carrying bag. Because it’s on the bottom of so. What you got here is the smooth side of the sunscreen is facing outward. And also the smooth side is facing inward toward the chronograph so the rods don’t damage your chronograph then the cord. That is used to connect your electronic device with the chronograph is best put into the scallop section. You see the scallop section here it’s got curved so. When you’re packing it. That cord sits right in. That scallop session so it’s kind of like fits right in there. Now the extra battery compartment came in handy. One thing about that it’s possible. That as you’re putting the chronograph into the bag.
You accidentally turned the unit on as you’re sliding it into the bag. That happens what happens is. You come to use your chronograph the next time out the battery will be dead so. You need to make sure. That it’s in the off position as. You carefully slide. It into the bag so you don’t accidentally put. It into the on position. That you’ll be okay. This chronograph has done very well at the range its unobtrusive. It doesn’t cause any problem for other shooters on the range it’s accurate. You couple it with a Medtronic device like a iPad works very well maintains. All of your data you can enter. All the pertinent information. You can take a photo of your group.
All those things are very handy but. Ineed to also report to. What happened was this crime graph was dropped. It landed right on its end like. This from about three feet fall with a big thunk. Ithought for sure that the chronograph was going to be broken out of commission. It wouldn’t have surprised. It was broken but it survived. That very well so the plastic case. And the components inside are pretty tough. Iwouldn’t recommend a constant diet of drop stone so choose the real lawyers out there for about $90. This is a good chronograph that’ll serve. You well so if you’re looking for a chronograph. This the bad one again. And by the way you don’t need to get the deluxe version. That comes with a tripod. Because the tripods worthless. All the other gadgets.
That come with it’s really not necessary so. You need is one for about $90 instead of the deluxe. One for well was one hundred forty-five hundred fifty dollars so anyway there. You go good shootin to. And good crime graphing to.
Hey guys Steve and Jen here from top guns today we’ve got. Something a little bit different. All right guys today. We have Caldwell’s chronograph meter supplied to. Us by opticsplanetcom. We want to thank them for getting this out. And asking us to do a quick review on. It for those of you. That don’t know what a chronograph is it’s basically a unit that’s going to allow. Is to measure velocity of. Anything that you’re able to successfully pass over the sensors. Some people use arrows today we’re using bullets I’m sure there’s a slew of other products. That you could use. This one as well basically we’re going to go through the setup the packaging and contents. And then we’ll go through the use of. It as well okay Jen so. We have our bag that’s packed with our chronograph. And all the accessories. We actually obtain the premium pack so not. Everything that’s in here comes with a standard package, but we’ll kind of mention what’s excluded as. We move on when you first open the bag first thing I see is. This big green contraption. What can you tell us about. That this is the actual unit itself so on the front of. It you see the screen. Where you’re going to see your readings the on/off switch is very easy to operate it’s off in the center. And then feet-per-second on. One side and meters per second on the other side so. You do have a choice there. We have already attached the tripod adapter. It does take a 9-volt battery but in the compartment for the battery there’s also a little spare battery area so in case you’re forgetting to take your batteries.
Or check them not that. We would do that once. Or twice on the other side of. It there is an auxiliary port so. You can actually connect your phone to. It and then the other port that’s there is for manufacturer use only. And they just use that to calibrate the machine awesome so from there. We have these two contraptions. That are what Sun Shade okay. They just kind of cover up your sensors. And we’re obviously messing with a very sunny day, so I’ll give. You those and pop these things in there. And get those sun shades set up those are relatively easy to install. Now these sunshade as well as. These post the rods come with. Both kits the bipod. That we have here does not come with. Both kits that comes with only the premium kit. And another thing I’ll mention . You know it’s not the. Most robust bipod that. We have seen but it certainly gets the job done the legs do extend we’ve got. It set on a table at the moment the legs do extend will extend um later.
It does have a level on. It which will help you know to get. That thing leveled out so. That you’re not setting canted. Or whatever okay next. It has something similar to. These looks a little different. And these are basically a diffuser right so the diffusers. Or naturalizers are going to help normalize the lighting so in their infrared so there’s an LED light on the front. One that lights up so. That you can see that the units on. And working but basically. We would use these in low light conditions dusk. Or cloudy days things of. That nature to help. More natural eyes and normalize. That lighting so that you’re getting more accurate readings anyway. Now while this unit does have a battery in. It those do not operate off of.
That battery those operate off of different of a different power source. And you can power it. One of two ways it comes with basically the power adapter but that’s not supplying the power that’s just converting it to whichever unit you’re going to supply the power with. And then one of two directions. You can go here you can. Either go with the battery pack. That is supplied in the premium kit. Or the AC adapter that is supplied in the premium kit. We are obviously in the field so. We would be using the battery assuming we didn’t have a nice sunny day but. We are fortunate today. That we are in the Sun, so we’re not going to need. Either of those the last piece. That I want to mention. That comes in this kit. And I absolutely love is. This long case yes it was. This — that is the auxiliary cord. That I mentioned earlier. That just plugs right into the chronograph. And you can hook it up to your phone which it’s only useful. If you download the chronograph app which.
Iactually did earlier on my phone. And all I did was gone to the app store. And search for Caldwell ballistic precision chronograph. And the app showed up. And it’s free to download easy to use so. And that’s going to give. Is a lot more Shens a lot. More data that we can gather. And collect and store for future reference right awesome let’s get out. And see how this thing does. All right let’s go okay so before. We begin I just want to take a second to talk about the app itself. And the features that. It offers because it is. One of the most important things. That sets this chronograph apart from others. That are on the market. Once you have the app actually downloaded. And installed on your phone. You can select new group on the bottom section of the screen. And it will bring up a new screen. Where in the top left corner there is a bullet with a question mark. If you select that. You can go through and select the manufacturer.
And all the information for the bullet type. That you’re using for. That particular group. Once you finished recording all of your information. You can actually access your saved groups. And go in and delete. Any errors that may have occurred during your test as well as actually uploading a picture of the round. That you’re using or the manufacturer data that’s associated with. That round for later comparison. All right Jen so you had a chance to throw. Some rounds downrange. Idid first off how’d. You like it I did. Iliked it a lot and. It was surprising to see. How fast the readings came through almost constantly yeah. You know I want to mention to our viewers.
What a great job you did. And so when we started out. We anticipated that. We were going to be shooting this thing at basically at the just right at the sensor itself getting muzzle velocities. And after reading instructions. It said for best results. You need to be about 10 to 15 feet back mm-hmm so. We put Jennifer with. This rifle about 15 feet back no sights no optic. And asked her to make sure. She did not hit the unit. And tried to get all the rounds over the sensor. She did an awesome job. Imight add not one round hit the unit. Now so we’re good there. And on top of that. You managed to get every single round over the two sensors which gave.
Is accurate readings. And no errors right the things. That you know I noticed the deviation was probably on the rounds. That were alike was about on the high end 50 feet per second. And they certainly went down to wears maybe 10 15 feet per second as well so. Ithink that’s relatively acceptable. Because you don’t know. If 107th the rounds are completely consistent with. Each other and then certainly there’s probably a little deviation for the unit as well right so. And then and then the first five rounds. That you shot that was a variety. It was crazy so. We had the one round. That was up in the 1500s. Ithink that was a CCI stinger.
If I’m not mistaken. And then the rest time were just a variety of stuff so. It was kind of cool to see. What it does it give. Me a ton of ideas as to. How we can use this to make new videos in the future. Ialso want to do a lot. More experiments with using suppressors the point of the suppressor for those of. You didn’t understand why we shot the same five rounds through suppressor. Iwanted to see exactly. How much we were impacting the velocity of those rounds. When we shot the exact same rounds through a suppressor. And whether the suppressor was going to increase. That range of deviation so. That we were seeing. That hey there’s a little bit of an issue here which means downrange you’re going to have. More bullet drop right the last thing I would like to say. Once again we certainly want to thank OpticsPlanet again. If you haven’t checked them out opticsplanetcom. They do have those units available. II wouldn’t hesitate to run out. And grab one I know.
We have found a lot of uses for it at. This point and you’ll be seeing a lot. More videos coming out from. Is using this meter so as always thanks for watching guys be sure to LIKE share favorite. And subscribe take care.

Hey there everybody welcome to. Another episode of Gideon’s tactical today we’re gonna be checking out. This little target, and we’re gonna be shooting some rounds downrange at. This is the Birchwood. And casey ground strike 8-inch target. You know kind of like a self-healing plate. You can shoot any type of round. You would like as it obviously the closer. More high-powered the round but less the lifespan will be we’re gonna be shooting some nine-millimeter. And 45 at it today just to see. It performs they give. You about a quarter-inch thick piece of steel wire right here to stick. It into the ground it does have. That loop as well as a secondary loop it’s about half an inch thick. And its thickness it’s kind of. That lime green so it’s really easy to see. You know in all environments. Even kind of as dusk is. You know coming or something like. That great size this up here. And that’s kind of why we bought. This has to kind of be a wilderness take out in the woods for the day we’re going to maybe do. Some knife testing and. We want to shoot some pistol. You know or maybe something like. That so its lightweight aways just under a pound. And it’s pretty small. You know eight inches for. That plate it’s easily put inside a backpack. Something like you know. You can run wire through here a para cord. And hang it from a tree do. All sorts of different stuff so it’s pretty versatile. And we’ll see it takes forty-five. And nine millimeters so let’s get out there. And shoot this little sucker up. All right here we go with nine millimeter we’ll see.
It performs on the Birchwood. And Casey all right so there. It is after shooting some nine at. It hold up just fine no holes. These are just kind of black scuff marks so. You can see kind of where you’re hitting and what’s nice also about the. This ground strike targets is. You can get the little sticker paper targets. And just stick them on so. You kind of get an idea of where you’re shooting once you’ve kind of clouded. It up like I have with. All the different marks. You can just get those little sticky targets. And those will show up great. You want to kind of get a better idea of what exactly. Where you’re shooting on. This particular ground target so let’s go ahead shoot. Some 45 as it holds up against the 45 okay here. We are at about 25 feet we’re using the 45 Springfield XD. And we’re gonna see. This thing does at about 25 feet so there. You go taking the abuse pretty well so far.
All right everybody so. This US made $25 ground target. This it’s called the ground strike target again 8 inches by Birchwood. And Casey has had up great against the 45. And against the 9-millimeter so. You know at 25 feet holding its own gonna last probably a very long time before. This thing starts to show. Any real damage, and we’re not going we’re gonna have to get rid of. It eventually but I mean I’m sure. This is gonna last is probably about a year shooting at about. Once a month you know putting a couple hundred rounds at. It easily as well as. You know 22 you want to go out further. You want to use 3030 your 2 2 3. Or 5 5 6 7 6 — it will hold up is. What they say on the little tag it’s just the closer.
You are to the target the. More high-powered the round the faster. This ground strike target will wear out but for 25 bucks maybe here in the US a home run great for going out on camping trips hiking trips. Or building your own little target range. This sucker is an awesome little eight inch plate so thanks for watching everybody stay quip stay prepared we’ll see.
