It’s actually should be called deep space because it’s really warm now before i get into the review i want. To explain to you guys what this jacket the magic of this jacket is and i just. Learned this myself out the day now there’re three types of down jackets. There’s the most commonly the stitch through method where the down is inside these little arm stitch through pockets of our baffles and you have the. Traditional box baffles where the down. Is inside separate chambers of baffles. That are not stitched through so it’s a. Wall in between each baffle the stitch through method is just um a long wall. Long baffle with stitches in the middle you have with a much rarer bb or double. Chain burr a bottle where it’s sort of. Stitch through v formation but it’s just. Like a box style battle but with a v. Formation now most jackets have to. Stitch through most cheap cheaper like a. Patagonia high loft down or patagonia down sweaters they’ll have this um stitch through because it makes the jacket lighter cheaper to make and it’s. Easy to wear and pack the jacket or stuff jack into a sack the traditional box wall baffle jackets are used for. Mountaineering and are really expensive and really expensive to make and really. Unpack able and stuff able and heavy much heavier now with the lighter materials. Like pertex endurance that this tractor uses and um peak down liner that. Dis tractor uses it makes the jacket just as light as if it had the stitch through method now I’m gonna go into it check in. Is um cut longer for the size and I’m. Really cool today it’s 20 degrees it’s gonna snow later on today we expect a. A bit of snow so i figured I’ll just start wearing this it’s really cold now. Inside the jacket you have this neon green lining and you have that peak down. Liner inside that that makes it really warm next to your skin one gripe is the. Internal mesh pockets are really small you can’t fit more than a 16 ounce on pull and spring bottle in there and the other mesh pocket is just a zippered pocket for wallet and keys and normally. On a jacket like this you have like really massive internal pockets or water bottles and mittens and stuff like that to keep them warm against your skin against your body but here you don’t. Have that but what montane does do well is the exterior pockets imma go into that so you have the to weigh the lanes. If I’m not sure if you guys can see that. So it sits up like that and you have to place it down there which is really cool you have a lot of velcro on this jacket along the storm flap this velcros all down it and you have a double baffle so. You have internal baffle here storm flap. And an out external storm flap on opposite sides of the zipper so well this does it prevent arm prevents cold. Spots from getting in the middle because you have down all around the jacket but the weakest point of a down jacket it’s where the zipper runs because it’s just a thin layer of fabric along the zipper. So you want to protect that ee and this does that fray well and a buckle keeps this. Keeps that secure now you have in terms. Of the pockets you have the secret panel of pockets down here and there on the. Inside of the down there’s down on both sides of these pockets all the pockets in this jacket so you have down on the inside and down on the outside so your hands are really warm in these pockets we have another. Velcro garage pocket down here and a. Vocal one of my clients is really loud. And has that tear and velcro sound and if you’re not used to bunco its gonna take a while to get you stuff so you have these garage pockets down here now. The bellow pockets are i call in the garage pockets you can either wear the flaps inside if you don’t want to deal the velcro I’m tearing every time or you. Can just pull throw it up like that and it doesn’t look big or anything like that it looks very well in line with. Jacket you also have to napoleon pockets. Up here and these are down line as. Well but the only down line on the. Outside but inside is its yours your skin or whatever you burn so to prevent. These from being kept open what montane has done was put more velcro on them so when a pocket like this is open cold air. Could get in and create a cold spot against your skin so montine has. Created out buckle there so if you. Forget the zip the pocket back up they’ll close out of mount fleet with the velcro so these are also pockets. Because they’re all inside the down, and they’re not that big this is maybe mainly for keys or lip balm or. Something like a phone or something on the go and that zips up and so you have. The pocket and the beauty of this jacket. Normally like a box wall expedition down. Hoodie jacket like this it’s a big lofty. Marshmallow shaped less potato kind of i call a potato shape but this one is tailored so it hugs your body the. Sleeves are articulated so you can move your arms around you have a nice range of motion as well so it doesn’t pop. So the box one of the beauties of the. Box wall baffle it doesn’t give you that mikkel and tire or the stay puft. Marshmallow guy it doesn’t give you that that tire kind of shaped like you ran a bunch of tires it’s a streamline cut. Even though it’s a bigger jacket it doesn’t look puffy like a regular puffy down jacket because all like a. Straight baffle so much this you get that really well tailoring and what Montaigne has done it’s really cold you. Have these internal hinge toggles in the back which is really cool so you can cinch this jacket in the. Midsection and this sort of replaces a. Traditional powder skirt or snow skirt so it hugs the jacket against your waist. Even though it’s a longer cut jacket so when the jacket is zipped up you can’t get any elements inside the jacket come on the neat because normally what would happen the wind blows up and it comes right up the jack and you get that cold spot in the torso now it doesn’t do that because it has this internal cinch but internal cinch is just a simple tube with a bungee cord and a cinch toggle and that’s it there’s no snow skirt or anything like that or anything extreme that goes into end it’s only in the back. Of the jacket and it’s really well done it makes it lighter jacket and it makes an effective sort of replacement for a snow skirt or powder skirt down below you also have your dual. Pinch toggles in this side for the torso and you have a drop tail hem in the. Back which is really cool if you don’t. Want it to be really long you could cinch it up to make a shorter jacket to. Make it wear shorter and as you can see what a jackets unzipped it’s not like it doesn’t look like it’s are uncomfortable to wear it’s its stay it keeps its shape so it keeps a rigid shape another thing montana has done is. Use different textures of pertex endurance throughout the jacket so you have a beefier thicker textures of hair. On their arms shoulders and the but you. Have a softer kind of fabric on the front and in the inside of the arms there so you also have d-ring clips to. Hold mittens and gloves off of which is. Kind of cool right there and Douro cinching cuffs. Which is really cool and sort of. Necessary because the sleeves are really long for the size and I’ve sized down to. A smaller sleeve still come over my fingertips as you see there which is cool now the best part of this jacket is. The hood unzips and it zips in. With this arm sealing zipper their secret where the jacket with the hood unzipped or zipped up and what montine. Has done with the hood normally a hood has the internal fabric on the inside of. The hood but montine realized your hair could get wet or your hat could get wet or if it’s snowing and the jackets worn like with the hood down kind of and water gets in there and it could get the down wet, so they’ve made a waterproof interior lining for the hood. Which is the same as outside of the hood so it’s all one material on the hood which is really smart because. Most jackets just have that soft internal lining and the inside of the hood and that’s not waterproof and that’s not weatherproofed so when that gets damp the down liner gets. Damaged sorry it’s really cold out here. Guys so you also have these are sleeping. Bag baffles up there which is really good and I’m gonna put the hood on and the. Hood tucks away it has these snaps that tuck it away when not worn and another gripe about the hood what the only gripe is too much fog, or they have velcro all down here so you get that. Tearing summer what the velcro does the positives of having velcro there is if. It’s really cold and it’s its coming.

Hey what’s up youtube i got another jacket review i have the Montaigne deep cold down jacket i review. This jacket about a year ago when i bought it and i had a chance to wear it. Over the winter 2016 into 2017 yes sum a. Couple of cold days new york has overall beginning warmer and warmer every year so i think wear this jacket as much as i wanted to but i did get to test it out and i have a bit to say about it first. Of all the velcro is still annoying i. Think i mentioned in my previous video i also explained in that last video difference why this jacket is really warm because it’s about boxed a box down. Baffle jacket meaning that the down. Baffles are not stitched through is just a solid box coming down your boxes are. Basically down instead of a stitch through down and the velcro you can hear. Is very annoying take the ball now I’m 157 pounds 5 foot. 8 inches tall this is the size small. That i got i don’t believe Montaigne makes this anymore I’ve not seen this on website for this year but if you get one of these they do some on ebay in the uk. A lot you see a lot of these older ones older styles from last year um they’re. Cheap so this is the size small it’s. Quite big it measures 24 inches measures. 24 inches across the chest and about i think it was 31 inches down. From the bottom of the collar to the hem. I’m not sure of that number you could check my previous videos I’m gonna put it down in the description below the tips up there is a lot of velcro on this jacket was one of my gripes on it I’m. Still, oh like it i wish is like button snaps or something but it is a very warm jacket on. Think i loved about this jacket we weren’t at last there is a lot of pockets so if you have. Car keys in that pocket there. And you also have separate hand warmer pockets up here which are really warm now one of the things i found out. What this jacket is that it’s not that. Warm if you just wear a t-shirt under this jacket i found that was still a little cold in my sleeves my arms are a little cold as well as um parts of my. Chest so i highly recommend if you can wear this wear like a at least two layers underneath it is sort of wearing just a. T-shirt to see how warm it’ll be but it wasn’t as warm as i thought it would have been considering the weight of this jacket i think my video got cut off last. Year when i was talking about the hood but the hood is awesome it detaches or you can wear on the jacket or you can. Wear it without the hood so it’s kind of cool and that’s why i should be called a. Deep space down because literally like we’re in a space helmet you completely protected from the elements outdoors so. Lots of pockets you have pockets up here as well i think this jacket had over like neat. Pockets or somewhere so you have the two pockets on the chest here napoleon. Pocket some people these you also have. The two pockets down here garage pockets tella pockets which are please find. Pockets really cool and everything zips up are close to it a velcro now these hanwha no pockets have down on both side which is kind of cool these. Chest pockets do not have found both sides just on the outside so you want to keep that closed up at all time and that actually has a zip and the velcro so i. Guess montine definitely wanted to keep the cold outside of this jacket and on. The inside of the jacket you have. Two pockets one which is a big sort of. Big pocket could have been bigger i think and you have a zip pocket for important. Documents wallet keys whatever in there. And you also have internal hamsun ch. Which i praised in my first video and i still praise it because i think this is what keeps the bulk of this jacket. The cut is kind of bulky but it keeps it very tailored having that since right. There that’s you also have to hem sit. Here which sort of parallels that going across the jacket so i really like the system saw one of the best entry systems for an oversized coat normally a coat. Like this size would have a full cinch going from zipper to zipper but this is just the back so it cinches the back. Just so you guys can see how that looks. It’s a very warm jacket highly recommend it you could get one of these for a lot cheaper than what donation you wanted. For this another thing with this jacket i believe this has the hydra dong I’m. Not sure pretty sure it has it just. Goes down but i believe this has on some sort of like water resistancy to the. Down as well as the outer pertex fabric is very water resistant it’s not waterproof but it’s highly watered resistant so guys this is the pontine. Deep space down the sun is going back out it looks like it’s gonna warm up today so it’s really cool i don’t know i. Don’t know what you guys think peace out.

Hey it’s going to do a quick kind of. Overview kind of first impressions video of this which is the Montaigne black ice jacket electric blue it’s kind of here. Kind of winter down jacket seven eight. A Hundred plus full power so the lowest quality down this is 800 which is really. Really high and it’s been forced to an extra layer primaloft in the shoulders forearms and. The hood what that does is it makes it a. Little bit more water resistant because downs not very good in the wet and then. Also this shell fabric is free flow. Ultralight which i believe Montaigne make themselves comparable to on pertex. Endurance some more 50 to 800. Millimeters static air which is what the. Military here in the uk consider waterproof i think in terms of like. Outdoor use of stuff we usually consider. About 1500 millimeters to be waterproof so it is pretty water resistant like i would trust it in a shower and some pre wet conditions but you know don’t go. Out in heavy downpours and expect it to. Stay completely dry because it’s probably not I’ll definitely take something extra harsh or something to put muck over the top that it’s gonna be soaking wet oh yeah it’s really nice. It’s not as bulky as i thought it would. We gonna build the pictures and stuff i mean on me it’s kind of right between. The kind of really bulky super warm down. Brackets and the kind of lightweight bit. No one’s like say the ghost whisperer all this one I’m happy to have a light from one thing it’s kind of right between the two it’s not super. Thick but it’s still very fickle sticky very warm it’s got to wait ykk zipper. Here it’s gonna be a little bit and i must do up but as we all know these. Zippers i think it’s worth it for the. Extra household like to say when you when he’s sitting down and like in. Canopy under this and it makes it a little hot come peers to sit down because my bulk up but the main purpose if you’re wearing a harness or say. Want to wipe this over the top then you. Can pull this up and it won’t get in the. Way of all of your in your hands or. Anything well it will pop it down here one of the top as well the hood on this thing is incredible this is probably my favorite thing about this jacket zip comes all the way up here you’ve got this really. Nice material here as well it’s often — comes all the way up and this hood. Cinches all the way down good these are. Also these cables here about whom these. But so it doesn’t slap against your base in heavy wind and get tangled up and take the jacket on that officers a really nice feature yeah the hoods just amazing so cozy now. It’s worried about getting a phosphate in nose in this thing you also got an adjuster on the back here just a smoker but to be honest just. Being that was probably a good thing because it’s one less thing to go wrong as um this is why I’m returning this. Further light because it did go wrong this is quite a kind of standard apfel. And it just the most are so in wrong and it just ripped out didn’t i find another video of that but um yeah simple and i. Think that’s better pocket look one more thing about the. Hood Peugeot is that this peak here is. Why reinforced and it’s got a layer of foam in it and although it looks like a. Lot of montages over hoods like say this spinner on here the federline it’s. It’s a lot better like it’s really. Really kind of it’s not like you’ve. Full-on hard shell type peaks yet from that little face but is it’s definitely enough to stop it from blowing about in the wind and being annoying a really good hood sir it’s a probably one of the one of my favorite things about this pocket you’ve got two hand warmer. Pockets here they’re really huge and the line we’ve run with them like fleece. They come really high as well so if. You’re wearing a harness or you put your backpack straps aren’t here they’re going to be well other was still getting there no problem and at the bottom you’ve got a. Hammock or tea if she can pull tight from either side and another really neat. Feature about this jacket it’s really well-thought-out so there’s also a hem. Cord here at the waist so this means that when you’re when you have your harness on are you singing about on your 10 if your bottom zip up like this you can tighten this up. The titans are in the pockets as well so you’d have to undo the rocket to tighten them around basically even if your. Jackets up here it’s gonna be nice and tight around your waist and you can also use it say if the fits not quite right. On you and you’ve got some extra space in your back I’d say i have i always. Thought about just pull these tighten up. Around your waist here you feel the difference already of how much air that’s going to stop coming it really nice little feature it’s a very well-thought-out jacket the only. Downside about the primaloft so although it’s a lot more resistant and it’s supposed to be it’s supposed to go. Against like when you’re wearing backpacks and stuff because it comes it doesn’t compress as much this time but. Um the life of primaloft is nowhere near as long as down i think it’s usually expected to last about five years or so. Unlike if you buy a full point of jacket but i think that’s not such a big. Issue because it’s only on these areas. And realistically you’re not going to be wearing a heavy pack very often when you’re wearing a big done jacket because you’re just gonna be with what far too hot so yeah i also don’t get where i am. Because there’s a layer of foam on top of the layer of battlement or underneath I’m not sure which way it goes even if it does wear out eventually that bounce will then be there to keep you warm it’s not as if you dennis have to throw away the jacket if that eventually happens yeah so in terms of pockets on. The inside you’ve got this really nice fleece lined big zipper pocket it’s. Great for keeping things like batteries in keep your head towards batteries in there and stay alive for a lot longer i keep my camera batteries in next time photographer you’ve got one here for a bottle it’s not massive i was my. Father’s over here you can fit a one. Liter bottle in no problem but want to go in and figure though but then again you’re not gonna be very comfortable if you do for any bigger in there but if it’s a one we evolved perfectly yeah that’s about it all right. Its own fox wall construction so these. These are the sewing on it doesn’t go all the way food you get cold spots say on the on jackets like this one the. Sewing goes all the way through from front to back so you get a little cold spot where there’s no insulation between the foot on this you’ve got a layer of. Material in between this stitching and the stitching on the inside so there’s always insulation there’s no cold spots reading that feature fit this is a. Medium I’m 5/8 with a 31-inch waist i. Believe and it comes below my bum nicely. It’s longer cut than a lot of other down jackets which i like them longer means it doesn’t roll. Up anywhere in the harness where you sit in the bow now that’s like having something to sit on as well that’s really nice it’s quite tighter on the bottom and it’s quite slim fitting in general like usually a medium would be quite a baggy. On me and a small would be tight being but this is this fit like some smalls. I’ve tried on so you’ll be a bit on the. Larger side or you want something really baggy to layer underneath and up off any room for layers here but if you want it to put lots of layers underneath i don’t know why it would because it’s so warm then i would suggest getting a size up or if you’re a slightly fatter person. Confident come another word yeah you. Might me get a size up too because the arms will probably get a bit tight in you might use a bit of the um insulation. Qualities of this but as you can see it comes over when we nice view the chest it’s nice and neat so you can fit lots. Of stuff but it’s not too much to eat up you’ve got the sleeper motel buffle here slop snow and stuff getting down into. Your jacket if you’ve got the hood done really nice little feature like i say it’s just very well-thought-out it’s inside material is wicking skull peak little q to be fancy and done yes right. One thing i will say about montane products is that their photos are very. Bright i think there’s a lot of adjustment in good lighting going on this electric blue is nowhere near as bright as it looks on their website in the same of this is the burnt orange and it looks super bright on the. Website but it’s really more like a light red in person so keep that in mind. If that’s the kind of thing that matters to you i think needs to look a bit more subtle than nice myself but yeah what. Can i say it’s a really good jacket our piece for 250 pounds. This one was 149 from go outdoors so you. Can get it quite a lot cheaper than the rp much cheaper and yeah i would. Highly recommend it i had it out in town yesterday that’s walking about with just. A t-shirt underneath wasn’t that cold it’s probably between like probably somewhere between 2 and 5 degrees c so. It’s cold enough that you would normally. Be absolutely freezing even we have to say this is probably my standard walk. Around town the coat is just a standard. North face big no insulation anything it’s just really thick, and they’ve added just a t-shirt on under that in two to five degrees i would be freezing and this was toasty you could. Sit around for hours and this outside just for the sake of it just to say at warm it was and yeah really nice. This jacket patagonia basically wrapped one of their nano air mid layers of which we’ve covered before and are big fans in really quiet breathable face.
