today we’re gonna show. We tie up our Brad’s kokanee cut plugs last year Brad sent. These cut plugs to try out here in Canada. They worked amazing I’ve got. Some of my favorites here. We used last year they sent. Is a whole lineup from 2018. And there are some new plugs in the market for 2019 so check them out check the website out. Iwill show how to tie up. One of these there are different ways to tie. These up you turn them over. You look on the back side here there’re two holes up front. They have made for you to change the roll change the way. This thing maneuvers in the water they’ve got a hole here to put your line through there’s. One at the back you can rig. These up you choose there’s plenty of youtube videos out there on how to do. This a lot of guys south of the border in Canada here have been fishing these. And been very successful for kokanee so. Iwon’t get too in-depth on.
That there is a rubber band on the back here. You can open these things up here. And you’ve got a little scent pad in here. Some guys are stuffing them with corn first scent. If you’ve got scented corn I’m not sure. If that’s what I would be doing with. Ihaven’t I’ve just put scent on. This pad one here was my favorite last year. And my second favorite was. One I’ve caught lots of kokanees on. They absolutely slam. They really like this so without further ado we’ll put the rubber band back on. Iwill show I was rigging up okay so the Brad’s coconut plug showing you. How to tied here lots of great ways to show. How to tie it on the internet so Google. That look it up on YouTube.
Itied mine last year. And did really well on. You read a lot and watch a lot on YouTube about contrasted beads different colored beads a lot of guys use like to use. One bead of one color. One beat of and alternate those so. This past summer it worked really well so. Iused six beads here. Ichose the red orange bead. And chartreuse cuz those are two of my favorite beads they’re not glowed beats they’re just regular salmon beads. They did just fine my thought process on. This was I’m gonna have. Some corn in the back end. This is going to be attracting the coke in the end they’re gonna Zone in on the corn they’re not going to be too worried about the beads but. If you’re going deeper like. We don’t go too deep. We are fishing these dirty feet so. It doesn’t really matter. If you’re going deeper. Than 30 feet you might want to switch over to.
Some glow beads that might help. You put a little bit better, so we’ve got our six beads on here. And it’s just like we would a hoochie. We want to line these beads up they’re gonna be stopped in the stopper in the middle of the Brad’s coconut plug so. We want to line them up. And have them just so the hooks are out the back end. They will have corn on. This is on there this will actually rotate on the line. This will attract the fish. And they’ll come in so like. Isaid earlier there’re different ways to put. This on there’s one spot right here there’s. Another spot and there’re two holes here to adjust your roll. Iwill put this through the center hole.
Iwas going to the outside hole last summer. And bringing out the top just like a plug, so we’ll slide. It down to the bottom. You can see here this stopper here. And that’s kind of where. It stops that’s it can’t go no. This here is lined up pretty good. Icould probably even take. One beat out of there. This is going in the water as I’m trolling this is actually gonna spin on here. You can take a look at YouTube lots of great videos. This spins this out. This worked really well hopefully. You can try some of these Brads kokanee cut plugs here. This year you like. This video please subscribe to our video share like comment tell. What you want to see next. We will do our best to get. You thank you later
hey guys Rick down here with home only outdoors we’re coming to. You just after we did the video on introducing the kokanee cup plug to know. How to customize them yourself. Something that is so much fun to do. Because really you are the. That in control of whatever. You want to do here. You want to make a pattern. These things are your canvas. You can go to town now there’s a. Few things I would suggest. You guys go out you don’t already have them but the first thing you’re gonna need is. Some actual tape I would highly recommend the witchcraft tape products here. You can find them at your local tackle shop. Igot mine up at Ted Sports Center but. They come in so many different colors. These happen to be the UV pink the UV green. And the UV orange, and they’re basically mooned jelly is.
That is so pink moon jelly green moon jelly. And orange moon jelly super excited to try those out as. You can already see. Some of them on this guy. And on the orange one here then. You have just your straight moon jelly which is. Another great color. You can see one there on the Hollywood as well as a couple others. You can see there and here so really the next thing you want to do is get a good pair of scissors. Ihappen to have a pair of my fly tying ones. That are a little bit older for the cutting side so no worries there. Ihappen to have a hole puncher. This is a little bit. More heavy-duty crafting one but for getting precise small cut outs of the circles a hole puncher is ideal.
And again you guys can do. Whatever the heck you want. You could put a lot of different things on these. And really make these pop with. These UV colors with the glow colors it’s up to your imagination so. While we’re doing this I’m going to actually put. One together to show. You guys how easy it is so let’s take a look so the biggest thing you’re looking for when customizing these things up is color contrast really. Because the flash all those different things of the action are. All great but the color contrast can’t draw your fish in from a distance so let’s take a look at making a custom. One I’m gonna use the pink down there but. Something you guys can also keep in mind are. Istickers this ones happened to be glow, so I’m gonna play around with a custom here on. This pink by taking these glow we’re gonna put a glow eye right about center on him get nice and firm there. You can fish that just like.
That looks good, but we’re gonna keep going alright so. We got the eye on their like. That moon jelly tape. It up, so I have a little arrow I’m gonna do a couple different things with. You just gonna peel the back off figure out. You want it to lay down pretty much want the arrow we’ll call. One eyes up and just like. You have the tape on their will. You V action little glow on the eye which adds contrast let’s make ourselves easier. And use actual pre-cut eyes on these so. These happen to be 3/16. And the other ones were 7/32 for the big guy just like. That much easier to peel off then the little hole punched one’s trying it is close to lined up. And symmetrical as you want. It but there you go custom mini cup lug holy moly eyes up. And just like that guys its super easy. We have our own custom ready to rock. And roll in the water so. You need to do then is just pick. What kind of tapes you want.
And it’s up to your imagination on how. You want to create so good luck out there guys hope. This helps and go have. Some fun we’ll see you on the water take care. And fish on hey guys thanks for watching today. Ireally hope you enjoyed the video. This is rick denim with holy moly outdoors signing off. You want to see more of these videos please subscribe to my channel. And take a look at the videos. That are playing above lots of. More fishing action. And instructional videos to come thanks for watching tight lines. And good luck on the water fish on.
got a second cold can. Either cut a motor broad scope luck. Ilove chartreuse so. One of those on for today. And the bride’s Dodger did a great job you.
hey guys Rick down here with holy moly outdoors today we’re going to talk about a fun alteration to a very effective long-standing lure from Yakima bait we’re talking about the rooster tail here. Something that has been around in a mini tackle box has cut thousands. And thousands of fish across the country. And works great on so. Many species but originally. This 16th ounce size was designed for trout specifically. And with it being designed for trout it’s set up perfectly. You can make a few modifications. You want a single barbless for rule restrictions. Whatever you may want to do. You can do this rooster tail. And lately I saw a couple posts out there people adding double hooks for trolling for kokanee. And trout with I thought I’d show my take on. How really you can make. These ineffective kokanee lure for trolling so. All we’re going to do today is we’re going to be looking at a sixteenth ounce rooster tail. And looking into how to make. That effective kokanee lure alright so let’s take then a look at what this modification is going to be. We take our rooster tail in front of. That we’ve done is we’ve clipped off the treble hook underneath added a split ring taking a number eight size Gamakatsu sigh wash. And then number four Gamakatsu octopus hooks. This happens to be UV add a little bit of Crystal flash. You really want to and that’s. That on the leader you want behind your Dodger. You got a silver plated blade with a little 1/16 ounce body so it’s going to give it a little weight to flop around. And really fish well on the background.
You can add your maggots your corn to the top hook. You have the back hook as a stinger a very effective lure. That can be trolled for bull trout. And kokanee with at tractors. Or just by themselves so in order to get. This started I’ve kind of already gone a little bit ahead of the game. Some things set up but four components wise. What you will need like. Isaid you’re going to need first off your rooster tail itself saw. Ithought this is going to be absolutely money. One for Lake Roosevelt so your rooster tail you’re going to need. Some size 8 size hooks. It will focus up there Gamakatsu. And then you’re going to need. Some kind of colored octopus hook. Iran out of my Gamakatsu so. We just got some of these new ones from Eagle Claw really impressed with them so far. They look great and that’s. What we got right now a couple different colors green orange. And pink you can contrast match. It up to the specific spinner itself as a trailer here then also going to need. Some little tiny split rings.
These happen to be a size zero but a size. One is about perfect. Ibelieve that’s 15. Or 20 pound strength so. These are going to be. What you’re going to need to attach with the open ice. And then you’re going to need. Some kind of braid to connect the two hooks together. Iuse 30 pound tests. And cut up a pretty good chunk. That way you can have. This swing hook rig like I’ve shown in previous videos a split ring pliers. Another plier with some kind of wire cutters to cut the hook off. You have your supplies we’ll get started I’ve already gone ahead. And assembled one there for. That orange and we’ll get. It to focus in you can see split ring on the top of.
That open-ice eyewash got the hook ready got our tinsel tied in. We just got to clip off the hook here. And get started so we will open up. This rooster tail this is an orange sparkle brass blade with a silver sticker. And immediately was thinking Lake Roosevelt our home waters of Lake Stevens. And especially Ch elan. This color will be great so we’ll get. This close up that treble hook is just on the wire there, so we’re going to have to snip. It well takes our pliers. Ihad my wire cutter here but. That elsewhere you have to get. You cut that off. We have just spinner body. We haven’t cut anything on the wire form itself so. You just have the body there. We will then take I already assembled unit. It also pays dividends to assemble. These ahead of time. You can easily tie them up. And I’ll show you guys. How to do another video. You want to see it those hooks are very sharp out so take your split ring pliers we’ll get.
It to wear open it up so. We got the split ring pliers up. And up I’m going to go to the eyelet here on the underside lock. And then it’s just getting it to thread on amidst. All of the buck tail. Once that’s on guys. That is as simple as. It on there now you’re rocking it on with a really effective. And good-looking rig to go catch. Some big kokanee with so there’s your orange. Ihappen to have one for chartreuse ready just have to add the split ring to. This down here, so I will just quickly attach the split ring on. And we’ll open up that new silver chartreuse. Ipicked up you can find your rooster tails at. Any of your local tackle shops. Ihappen to find these Fred Meyer. Iwas grocery shopping Ted Sports Center has them locally here really guys Walmart anywhere will carry. You open up your side wash to the eye got a split ring on there from the green open up the package of the green silver. What they call the tuxedo blade so. It has a cool sticker on.
You can see there, so we’re the brass back looks absolutely killer we’ll pull back the buck tail get our pliers in here let. Me make sure not to cut. Anything that’s not. What we want so open. That up we’ll go over here. Inever opening on the split ring thread. It on over set that down. And there you go guys adds a little bit of flash a little bit. More color you have an effective kokanee spinner using the very well-known rooster tails from Yakima bait so go pick up a. Few of these yourself guys. This really makes how versatile. These Yakima bait rooster tails can be. And the different species. You can target with them. Ireally like using the double hook rig like.
This for kokanee now it’s not to say. You couldn’t catch fish using the standard rig there but those treble hooks just make. It a lot more difficult over time. This gives you a better hook up ratio so go give. These a try go check out Yakima bait hope. You guys enjoy thanks for watching take care guys fish on.
