Whether you’re completing your first century ride or crossing the finish line of a local grand fondo event, the Scott Men’s Road Team Boa Shoe provides an ideal blend of foot-wrapping comfort, a lightweight feel, and efficient power transfer for pushing your limits to the next level. It’s designed with a supple microfiber upper with 3D air mesh for added ventilation where you need it most, such as the toe box.
Scott employs a single Boa IP-1 dial that precisely controls the upper, so it can wrap your foot like a glove with micro-adjustments. This single Boa dial is complemented with a lower hook-and-loops strap, which secures over your forefoot to keep it secure under power. Not only is this upper incredibly fast and convenient to secure tightly, but it allows you a greater degree of adjustability than you’d find with a comparable shoe using only straps and buckles.
Looking underfoot, you’ll find a co-injected sole of nylon and fiberglass, which is medium-stiff with a power transfer rating of 8 of 10 on Scott’s scale. Since it’s not as unrelentingly stiff as Scott’s full carbon offerings, it provides a bit more comfort on longer rides for those who aren’t obsessed with competitively racing scenarios where every last second is crucial. However, it’s still plenty stiff for conserving energy when you’re finishing up the last leg of a grueling century or trying fondo event.

If the Freerider Contact Shoes look and feel like an old friend, that’s because Five Ten based its design on an updated version of the VXi chassis. The big change from VXi to Contact is the addition of toe protection in the latter the equivalent of ensconcing your little piggies in a brick house instead of just the synthetic leather of the VXi. With this additional armor, the Contact’s capabilities encompass a bit more of the DH spectrum while also improving the outcomes of mishandled landings.
The sole’s flat metatarsal section of Stealth Rubber carries over from the VXi to the Contact, giving you secure grip on flat pedals that still allows you to freely reposition your feet similar to road pedals with a high degree of float. The durable, synthetic uppers and mesh ventilation also return, making for shoes that rock the park, cruise the DH circuit, and clean lines across all manner of all-mountain riding.
Hi I’m brad and when I’m out riding i love riding at five ten today I’ve got the five ten contact here this is an. Updated version of the free rider vxi. This is stiff shoe it’s going to be great for all-mountain endure and free ride. The contact has the famous mi6 stealth. Rubber on the outsole the stickiest rover in the world it also sports a smooth outsole under the arch so that the pedal pins don’t get caught up in the lugs finally it’s got a updated toe. Box to prevent those painful rock strikes the abrasion resistant upper has. Been redesigned for more comfort and to be more breathable after a long day of riding you might want to clean these the insole pops right out so you can put it. Right in the washing machine or hit it with some febrile the 510 contact is. Like the all-around cowboy shoe it’s. Going to be your best shoot for all-mountain free ride dirt jumps and. Killing it in the park if you’ve had a. Chance to ride these shoes please post some comments on fit size comfort and style that’s it for the 510 contact happy riding.
Hey what’s up guys welcome back to another episode today’s episode i quickly want to discuss the importance of having the correct protection for your feet in my case i ran with the 510. Freebie pros so stay tuned it’s coming up so let’s quickly discuss why you. Would be wanting to ride with a mountain bike specific shoe well number one it’s. Got quite a bit of rigidity in the sole. I used to ride just in normal sneakers. But going from sneakers to this. Massively grippy like rubber compound. That’s on here i mean my life has totally changed this guy you stick it. Down in your pedal you really have to look at your foot off the pedal and put it back down on the pedal to actually readjust your foot because once this is done and the grub screws have dug into the base of this these guys aren’t going. Anywhere the one thing that I’ve noticed to three days after the famous crash. Yes yeah that crash right there I’ve. Noticed that if i was not wearing the. Shoes because of the rigidity of the sole my foot i don’t know exactly what happened but if this was my foot it kind. Of rolled something to that extent. So i think if it was not full for these. Shoes i would have most likely broken about two or three of my toes yeah. Luckily i didn’t break anything my foot is blue slightly swollen but. Right after the crowd so i could walk it off i think if i wasn’t wearing these free ride shoes the damage could have definitely been a hell of a lot worse cost a bit of money these shoes are expensive but if you. Think about how long they’re gonna last if you think about how much money in the long run these will save you in hospital bills broken bones that kind of thing the. Issues are definitely worth it i think. They come in today at about two and a half thousand ram but it’s a one sort of purchase and you can ride for several years with these shoes considering you. Now if you’re an adult and you’re not still young lad or lady out there these will. Definitely work yeah if you’re a parent watching this you have a kid out there on the trails riding well. Mom and dad i think if you can kind of. Like you gets a bus together get the youngsters some good solid protection because it will save you down the line. And some hospital bills yeah as always. Say if you treat the sport with a little. Bit of respect in the right kind of gear you can make it a very safe sport. So this is the 510 free ride pro chute i. Will leave a link down below in the description you can definitely go ahead and check these art if you would like some more information about those the shoe has definitely changed my life. Added grip added power delivery because. There’s no real give in the sol compared. To a sneaker these guys are a monsters. Out on the track this brings me to the end of my protection series for this week next week I’ll be back with a fortunate designing of that kitchen at. The back getting ready for easter weekend to hit the trails so that’s it. For me for this week guys so as always stay safe on the trails look after yourselves and I’ll see you guys next week peace out
Hello tubers i hope you are all okay a. Hairy back here with a review for a new. Piece of kit these are my 5 10 free rides i put in. Now approximately 5 to 550 kilometers. I’m not sure exactly on these now and i. Thought ok now i can justify review as. You can see they’re a bit grubby first. Of all actually the issues of relatively. Waterproof sort of abrasive resistance. Around the side here this is all sort of like a plasticy mesh it’s very. Robust around the front here it’s got a. Mice protected bit for the toes actually. This is really good if you sort of keep back your pedals or something like this really protects it, and they’re also a relatively waterproof i mean i. Went through a sort of muddy clay root on these a little while back and as well. Come back this morning from a little bit of mud and water, and they hold it they. Hold it out pretties well in comparison to what i was riding before with which were a pair of bands skate shoes which really. Aren’t ideal for the sort of writing that i do they’re also warm which is. Super especially if you put on an extra pair of socks or something like that two pairs of socks i was riding last weekend. In about minus 2 degrees it was very related a little breed that was sadly fairly cold so my feet was still warm. And they said that was great just a little bit of sizing and there we. Can see this in here probably not look. Ok well anyway these are 48.5 european. 13 uk and 14 is size and just as a. Little comparison for my night trainers. I also take the same size i know some shoes vary in size but these seem to go. One sort of the mike scale so if you have a pair of mics check the. Size in there and then this should compare relatively well to these. Here i did however buy a pair of lights. At five cent climbing shoes and the 48.5. Came up small very small so if you’re also into climbing just be aware of that. Okay that hurts my toe had a blister on the end of it after my session so yep. Another thing to consider before we get. A little bit more into the review is these souls are really thick, and they’re great, and they’re super sticky so i actually had to adjust my. Saddle to accounts of this because the ones i was writing before were obviously. A little bit thinner i guess and it’s. It’s noticeable when you get on your bike you can really tell that you know there’s an extra little bit of girth down here okay so the soles themselves. As you can see I’m riding on my bike at. The moment a nice pair of dmr v12 pedals. And there’s not too much i mean you know. They look almost as good as new hardly anywhere on there whatsoever the. Stealth rubber is great it really does stick to the pedals just be careful of your pedals aren’t in the right position and you put your feet down because they slip, or they will continue to stick okay. The laces are good i mean just standard. Laces really haven’t tried washing these. Off yet and maybe i should try and do that and like i said they are relatively waterproof so i guess all this mud on the outside will just scrape off so always good overall a great pair of. Shoes these cost me a hundred and ten euros that was with a 10% discount you. No I’m not so sure that’s good comparatively the danny Catskill. Version are usually about thirty to. Forty euros more expensive and in all honesty I’m not sure what the difference is however if you haven’t ridden five ten and you still you know wearing your. Sports trainers or your skate shoes or wherever it is you know to progress your. Riding that little bit further and just for the stability i mean these things are super tough as well you know really durable they hardly bend which is great and. Actually something that i didn’t i didn’t think up before you really you. Could really complete the feet on you can plant your foot and you know really. Sort of helps with all of this motion you know it’s very good also not too uncomfortable to walking so if. You get off your bikes go into a cask and get a doughnut or something like that excuse me fruit because we’re cyclists you need to. Stay healthy yeah they’re also not so. Uncomfortable so you could easily push your bike up of hill to lock it up. Somewhere take a little quick walk into town and you’ll be absolutely fine in this if you have any questions let me. Now and I’ll try and get back to you as soon as possible all right thanks very much.
Alright guys welcome back to wild outdoor living today we’re going to be taking a look at the 510 free-rider. Contact and the regular 510 free-rider. Now we were looking to buy some flat. Pedal shoes for our bikes you know it was a real challenge because the 510 free-rider contact cost one hundred and fifty dollars and the regular free rider just costs a hundred so i wanted to know. Why is there such a big difference between these two pedal shoes maybe. Besides the initial looks and some of the stuff you can see online and nobody was doing in comparison so now that i have both of shoes here we’re going to show you what the differences are so you can decide what is best for you the. Stuff we have the 510 free rider contact this is the women’s version i got this purse elise when she decided to go to. Flat pedals we decided to get her these shoes for a couple of reasons first. There are a little bit lower profiled so if the styles not real the big fat skater style like any other reason i. Wasn’t quite as worried with the new. Design being a little bit untested because solis is not right nearly as many miles as i do so mostly it was just get a good fit get a nice clean profile. And get a really good sticky sole so if. We look at some of the features on this shoe this is their newer design we’re. Seeing a lot more synthetic materials, so we have this kind of rubberized texture right here along the mid foot same thing. On the inside on the medial side lateral media we do have some really tough. Plastic or rubber nylon type of material. In the toe and around just around the. Just around really look the front and sides of the whole toe box it’s really rigid it’s a super protective toe. Cap and we have a similar thing going on in the heel but upside of this is it’s. Going to keep your toes really protected the downside is that if your toes don’t. Quite fit in there comfortably that can. Be really irritating because there is no stretch to the shoes being that so synthetic we do see the real trademark. Of the content versus the contact patch it has no dots. On the in that area this is the area of. The foot you would put on the pedal and so instead of having all the all these. Groupies to make it inconsistent feeling. You’re going to just make that flat it’s going to sink down to the pedal and really give you a good grip additionally. This is 5/10 stickiest stealth rubber so. The two biggest differences you’ve got that flat contact pass it gives the shoe the contact name and then you have the. Ultra sticky stealth rubber. That is the softest stickiest that 5/10. Makes there are some other things that. You might want to be aware of before you purchase the shoe first and foremost elephant in the room if you’ve been reading the reviews you know that when this you came out it was absolutely horrendous in terms of reliability there’s a there’s a transition here between the eba in the mid sole. And the outsole stealth rubber and. They’ve cut it down a little bit lower and says sewing it directly into the (upper) of the shoe they’ve glued it into the eba of the mid sole and that. Saves some weight that makes the shoe light and streamlined but the problem is. That when it flexes here it would. Separate so we haven’t had an issue with it haven’t seen any bad reviews in a cup in a few months about six months or so actually and so hopefully all the shoes. Are good now, and we’re not going to see. That reliability issue the other possible reliability issue is. Because the rubber is so soft it’s going. To break down quicker i mean just plain and simple even on fleece issues which she hasn’t actually worn that many times with it being winter last few months you. Now you can already see that it’s a little bit scuffed up a little bit worn it’s probably going to last a really long time though and be a great fit for. This shoe is definitely sitting as the higher performance option in a less reliable package move on to the standard. 510 pre writer i fretted and could not. Decide what i was going to get this shoe is quite a bit cheaper than. The free other contacts that i like that it was you know stickier and more. Streamlined all that that appealed to me but at the same time i needed she was durable i wear my shoes every day and i. Wear them in a lot of different places and i end up doing a lot of hiking biking and so it was important that the. Shoe be durable this shoe as you can see. It’s a little bit simpler this is their older design this is 510 classic so it’s. Not quite as soft as the mi6 version. That you have in the contact however it’s still super sticky this is the rubber that a 510 shoes famous on flat. Pedals and so you’re not going to be. Lacking in grip it’s a little bit of. A simpler design instead of having that transition with the eba and the outsole. We just have the outsole completely sewn. In to the upper which is more of a leather and cotton construction we. Do have a toe cap but it’s not nearly as rigid as what you get on the contact the. Heel cup is a little bit rigid as well but also again not as robust as. What’s on the contact i have found this. To be a very comfortable shoe it is quite it’s you know stiffness wise not. As stiff as the contact either in contact really is probably going to be. Your higher performer but this is going to be a little bit easier to walk in for the most part that said this is way. Stickier than any sneaker you probably have so this is going to give you great. Power transfer it’s going to give good pedal feel and it’s just going to be a lot more enjoyable to ride than your. Regular sneaker so it’s a great option i. Actually thought it quite entertaining. When i first rode these shoes i realized i could still pick my foot up with the pedal at stop signs and stuff like i. Could do with my clip less pedals i mean you can easily take your pedal up. To 90 degrees if not more just by putting a slight amount of pressure on the forward on that pedal when it comes. Right up no problem so i don’t have to take my foot off and scoop up the pedal with my toe nearly as often ah that’s the main differences between those two shoes they’re both excellent shoes if you’re looking for a more durable long-term option that’s maybe a. Better value definitely go with the standard free-rider if you’re looking for the ultimate and performance and grip and protection, and they’re not. Worried about swapping your shoes out as often go with a free rider contact that. Said you know you can probably order the. Regular free rider with a little bit less risk the free rider contact you. Now if you’re ordering online there’s a good chance you’re gonna have to send it back if it’s too short because it’s not going to be comfortable if it’s at all too short and so you know if you have a chance to try it on i really recommend. That you guys have any questions please leave them in the comments down below i. May be trying to keep up with this one video week thing and maybe bump it up to. Two if we have time, so we’ll catch you later.
All right so i did a review on single. Tracks calm about these free riders and. Put more particularly it was about the free rider contact or lack thereof as. You can see, but we’ll get to that so real quickly this was my first pair. Free riders that my wife picked out the. Color these are four and a half years. Old now i think and i still wear these. At times these are a great condition durability i mean i beat these things up. They’ve been too out in the southeast. Asia Hawaii rocky mountains ozarks all. That out west moab utah i mean these. Things have been beat to snot in your. Washing machine, and they’re good both pairs were good i mean the insides award a little bit and there you can see but. Hey there’s still a great shoe they held up so then my wife gets me for my. Birthday the brand-new at the time free. Rider contact and not much of it is in. Contact well mainly solvent this shoe. Looked terrific the photos i put on single tracks calm they’re a terrific. Looking shoe they kept your feet dry. They’re lightweight, and they seem durable but, but they’re really they’re not i mean they started cracking right here on the ball of your foot pivots at. Your toes and then that is allowed moisture and water all kinds of stuff to get in their sander the reinforced toe. If these aren’t snug and tight it. Doesn’t matter there’s time when just bumps your toe that’s pretty irritable. The grip the performance of the shoe initially was it was fantastic and. People like hey this is great and the. Videos that were online okay they’re great but the durability it’s not there. It’s not there at all this came off in a manner i think in the first month or two this was already starting to separate right here on the side so just after where the stitching is here to kind of keep it on the shoe and where the ball of your foot is pivoting a lot of picking up setting it down if you do a. Lot of actual free riding and you like to have fun this is this going to get tore up and the other ones just like it — it started kind of coming apart there. Inside and then it’s just i don’t know. It was disappointing the inside stayed. Good they’re comfortable but I’ll never. Buy this type again and then again here’s another free rider went back to. This original style free rider and this. Is I’ve had these four since december. Yeah since december and these have been getting beat up as well, but they’re solid it’s like you can’t go wrong only. Think with these is they got ripped by. My straight lines i think one of the pins caught on the side you know trying. 360 i don’t know what i did but anyway. So i would stay away from the contact. The contact was not it was not a durable. Shoe at all it didn’t even last me a. Year i think six months i gave it up i went back to these started using these and then i would have these i keep these. Around if I’m if i don’t want to be these up too bad i don’t even know I’d do that sure dish winter but anyway. There’s my three to five minutes spill on why this was a poor choice and pink. And i would not get them and i would go. With something else have a good one. Ride on ride safe.
Tug on the Chrome Kursk Shoe, tuck the laces into the lace garage to keep them out of your drivetrain, and hit the road. The Kursk is a tough, cycling-specific shoe that moonlights as a simple pair of casual kicks. Thanks to features like stainless aglets (or lace end-caps for non word-nerds), the aforementioned lace garage, and a board-lasted sole, the Kursk will keep your feet protected and your bike rolling fast.
Grudgingly, you have to admit your first tri was, in some ways, pretty fun. Your second one too. And now you’ve just signed up for two more before summer’s end. If you’re going to make a habit of swimming, biking, and running for time on the weekends, stop costing yourself time in T1 fiddling with the dials and buckles on your road shoes. Invest in the Pearl Izumi Men’s Tri Fly Select V6 Shoe and simplify T1 without sacrificing fit and function during the bike leg.
Inspired by its pricier siblings further up Pearl’s tri shoe ladder, the Tri Fly Select V6’s accessible price point is kinder to newer triathletes who have a long, expensive list of gear to gather up before they see an age group podium. Though it isn’t pro-level, the shoe still comes with a carbon-reinforced nylon sole, seamless, quick-drying uppers, and a comfortable two-strap wrap closure that pulls those pliable uppers close around your foot. Pearl specifically positioned the straps away from pressure points that could impede circulation so that numbness and hot spots don’t interrupt your bike leg or your triumphant, slightly wobbly jog into T2.

Sometimes you want to take a casual spin around town without clipping in and other times you’d like to charge down the trail with the confidence-inspiring feel afforded by clipless pedals. That’s why Louis Garneau created the Men’s Urban Mountain Bike Shoe with the versatility to ride both flats and clipless pedals, regardless if you’re exploring back roads, hitting the trail on the weekend, or exploring back roads.
This commuter/mountain bike hybrid shoe features an insert for 2-bolt, SPD-style cleats if you prefer to clip in. However, Louis Garneau places a grippy rubber cover over the cleat inserts, so you can easily wear flats when you’re running errands or commuting through the city with your flat pedals. Overall, it provides the best of both worlds and gives you the flexibility for a wide variety of riding disciplines and terrain types, should you regularly transition between trail and town with different pedals on your bikes.
It’s easy to channel your inner King of the Mountains when donning a pair of Pearl Izumi’s PRO Leader v4 Cycling Shoes. Bantamweight construction comes courtesy of a lightweight upper and super-stiff carbon sole, both of which contribute to climbing out of the saddle and chasing virtual points on the road to retain your KOM leader’s jers—ahem—segment. Contact points are very personal and important for proper power transfer, and the Pearl Izumi PRO v4 is the brand’s new leader for maximum comfort and utmost efficiency.
Pearl Izumi fashions the PRO Leader v4 with an Advanced 3-Layer Seamless Composite Upper with zero stitching to offer exceptional breathability and reduce hot spots by adapting to your unique foot shape. This 1:1 Zero Distraction Upper Fit mitigates foot discomfort by avoiding the soft tissue running along the top of the foot. The synthetic material won’t stretch so durability and fit will remain the same as the day you take them out of the box.
The Leader v4 utilizes asymmetric closures, and Pearl Izumi places dual IP-1 Boa reels slightly off-center to further protect those sensitive areas on top of the foot. The Boa IP1 dials allow 1mm micro-adjustability and pop up for full release. The 1:1 Integrated Carbon Power Plate delivers feather-light efficiency with a stiffness rating of 13 out of 13. Thanks to the unique uni-body construction—which eliminates a traditional lasting board—Pearl Izumi is able to preserve a super low 5mm stack height for a more powerful and fluid pedal stroke. The 1:1 Insole System rounds out the highlights by allowing independent left and right arch and forefoot varus canting adjustability for optimal pedaling mechanics.
Hello this is tom Randall from gear. Mashers and today i wanted to showcase the shoe I’ve been riding in this is the pearl izumi pro liter 4, and so they have. The pro liter 3 which is an older model I’ve been riding in this one for about three months now mostly indoors on the. Trainer i like the shoe because it breathes. Relatively well it has a lot of channels here on the side that allows air and it. Also has some screens down at the bottom that also allows a little bit of airflow. The insert has a bunch of holes in it. It’s you know it was more or less your basic insert but it works really well the shoe itself it has is a seamless. Upper and so you’re not gonna have any. Issues with your foot rubbing up against something the other neat thing is the. Tongue on the shoe is asymmetric meaning that it’s not gonna be the same on each. Side and so it rides a little bit higher. On the inside of the shoe and a little. But lower on the outside of the shoe. Boas are positioned on the outside so. When you’re riding if you need to adjust your few it’s really easy to reach down. And hit the bhojas have no issue you. Don’t even have to look the other really cool thing is so these are the ip1 boas. Which are sort of bowie’s top it lines. Have nice rubber feel to them and it’s a. Click in click out so click out to. Release the tension click in to add tension and so if you turn it clockwise. You can hear that clicking that tightens. It but you can also turn it counterclockwise to loosen it up and it. Has a 1 millimeter micro adjustment so. You can adjust it either way either tightening or closing it the other. Really cool feature about this shoe is since the boas are offset or pushed out to the. Side they don’t ride on the top of your. Foot and a lot of times I’ve written with other cycling shoes that have the. Bow as on top and sometimes you can get a pressure point on the top of your foot if you have the tension cranked down a. Lot which i tend to like to do and moving these over to the side seems. To eliminate that issue at least from what I’ve experienced the other neat. Think about these is the bottoms even though most people aren’t going to really see them i just thought it was sort of cool this is what they call. Electroplating and it has sort of that rainbow color to them just makes them sort of neat i saw these. When i went to inter bike for last year. At the 2017 and her bike and i was like wow they just had these things set up i. Have a feeling that this will get scratched a lot if I’m out on the road they do have a replaceable bumper here. So you access it from inside so you just. Move this over and there’s a little screw there that you can access it but the shoes are pretty hardy I’ve been. Riding a lot so i again I’ve been riding. These for about three months mostly on the trainer i do sweat a lot, and they. Have held up great the sometimes what. I’ll do or usually what I’ll do is I’ll put a little insert after riding since i. Ant sweat a lot and this one is by a. Company called stuff it’s calm i don’t. Believe the company is around anymore but you can’t find these inserts on amazon so maybe whoever bought the. Company still sells the inserts so I’ll. Just throw those in thereafter doing a. Ride and it keeps them from smelling it also dries out the shoe the shoes. Themselves have a carbon plate and so. It’s super stiff so if you’re a climber. Or anything like that and you really are wanting a platform that doesn’t give. These are awesome so. With pearl azumi they’ve sort of gone now switched out of doing running stuff, and they’ve gone full tilt into cycling. They just came out with a mountain bike cycling apparel line so expect to see a. Lot from pearl azumi in the coming years. I’ve never had really any issues with. Pearl zoomy I’ve always liked their. Stuff i especially like their winter line they seem to have really good. Clothing arm warmers leg warmers knee. Warmers things like that i should be getting in some probably. Some mountain bike apparel so I’ll. Probably be reviewing that and also maybe some road apparel so but as far as. I know i don’t know if they’re working on any other road shoes at the moment this one is just the bomb in my opinion. If you like the pro liter 3 you’re gonna. Really like this shoe lastly please. Subscribe and check out the website gear. Mashers comm i have a lot of reviews i. Think i already have a review up on this particular shoe and as i get more. Roaches in for 2018 I’ll be having. Reviews of those as well.
You’re committed to taking on winter’s harshest weather on the trail, and we can’t blame you, while the gale-force-winds and frost can take a toll, we understand your drive to stay outside on the dirt (or snow) and avoid the whine of a fly wheel, and monotonous hours on a trainer. While your commitment may run deep, you’ll no doubt need some equipment on your side, assuming you’d like to stay frost-bite free through the sub-zero days, and NorthWave aims to take some of the strain off of you with the Raptor GTX Shoe. These shoes are overbuilt to deal with snow drifts when you head out fatbiking, and a stiff sole that keeps your power going no matter how far the mercury drops.
Compared to the higher-level Tri X-Lite II, the Louis Garneau Tri X-Speed III Men’s Shoes have a more forgiving, more spacious fit and increased arch support, so they stress comfortable expansion of the metatarsals and a wider range of tightness options in order to ensure comfort. Comfort is especially important when a day in the saddle can reach into the 112-mile range and directly precedes a marathon, which are prime conditions for swollen, sore feet. Given these properties—and despite a less efficient outsole and slightly heavier construction—the X-Speed III may in fact be a more effective choice for 140.6 triathletes in the age-group categories looking to check off a bucket-list item rather than pursuing a career.
That’s not to say the soles aren’t stiff and efficient; LG reinforces the nylon outsole with fiberglass, so it transfers power without the rigidly unforgiving stiffness of a carbon sole. While rolling out of transition, a heel loop and single cross-shoe strap help you stuff your feet into the shoes and cinch them down in one, smooth motion. The single strap also makes mid-ride adjustments easy as the day warms and your feet swell.

Many trail riders could benefit from the foot-customizing technology found on the Louis Garneau Men’s Granite II Shoe. Designed with X-Comfort Zone technology, the Granite II Shoe features an elastomer insert that brilliantly conforms to the unique width of your foot without compromising on comfort. This award-winning technology (it took a prestigious Eurobike award) allows you to wear your shoe size without thinking about the width. In its unstretched state, the shoe exhibits a narrower B foot width for those with a bit narrower foot shape. However, you’ll find it expands by a good four to five millimeters to accommodate even the widest of D+ feet without pinching or pressure points slowing you down on the trail.
The Granite II Shoe is designed with an offset opening that helps to reduce pressure exerted over the top of your foot. LG’s Power Zone system keeps your foot in place when you’re mashing on the pedals on long climbs and pummeling over rocky and root-lined sections of trail. As for the closure system, Boa’s IP1-S dial gives you the ability to tighten it down in small increments, so you can obtain the best fit and feel possible. In a world where races are won by fractions of seconds there’s no reason you shouldn’t reach for every possible advantage. You’ve already kitted yourself out with aerodynamic and sleek gear, but don’t forget to deck out your feet with the featherweight option that fights just as hard as the big guns like the Scott MTB RC SL Shoe. These ultra-lightweight shoes combine minimalist carbon fiber uppers with a light and ultra stiff carbon fiber sole for minimal weight with maximum support on race day.
The MTB RC SL Shoes feature Carbitex uppers, with the highest tensile strength possible to ensure exceptional durability as it wraps around your foot for massive support at minimal weight. The uppers secure in place with Scott’s Wrap Fit technology that adds a structural layer of synthetic leather inside to wrap and conform to your foot like a second skin, ensuring minimal wiggle space and complete support. This foot-hugging technology cinches down around your foot with two IP-1 Boas that offer minuscule adjustments to dial in the perfect secure fit while you ride.
Ultimately, comfort is important, but when race day comes what we’re craving is pure, unadulterated power transfer, and the MTB RC SL Shoes capture that with an intensely stiff HMX carbon outsole, coming in at at a whopping 10 out of 10 on Scott’s stiffness index, ensuring all of the power you’re putting down goes into the pedals to keep you going, instead of flexing underfoot. Underneath the carbon outsole is a Corecell foam core that shaves more weight, without reducing the stiffness, making the shoe a bit more minimalist, while EVA Sticki rubber coats the outside to make sure you’ve got the tacky tread you want if you need to hop off the bike to jump hurdles or fallen logs.
A few years ago, Giro revived the lace-up cycling shoe with the Empire and Empire SLX shoes. Needless to say, the difference was strikingly visible in a sea of ratcheting buckles, hook-and-loop straps, and wire dials, and with the Empire SLX Reflective Shoes, Giro ensures that they’re also more visible in low-light conditions. The shoes have the standard model’s pro-tier stiffness and low claimed weight of 175g, but they come equipped with a reflective sheen that grabs attention while you’re pedaling.
The Empire SLX is the second tier of Giro’s Empire line-up. Easton’s EC90 SLX2 carbon outsole is the main upgrade from regular Empire models, and it’s also the culprit behind the shoe’s peloton-proven efficiency. The previous iteration of Empire soles has been plenty stiff enough for the likes of Phinney and Wiggins, and this one’s no different—it’s just made from lighter carbon and it includes titanium hardware to make it weigh even less. It still maintains that super low stack height, which in turn keeps your feet closer to the pedals to minimize the power loss that occurs with thicker cleat plates.
The SLXs are wrapped with the same, single piece of Evofiber microfiber used in the heavier Empire models. This fabric is exceptionally lightweight and highly breathable, featuring perforations for added cooling. This contributes not only to the sleek, minimalist profile, but it also reduces weight.
The big difference when comparing the Empires to any other pro-level shoes are the laces. It may seem regressive to put laces on cycling shoes of any level, but the logic actually bears out. Consider the typical pair of hook-and-loop straps with a ratcheting buckle, which contacts the uppers in three places. Now consider the Empire’s old-school laces, which contact the uppers in seven places. Which do you think provides a more adjustable, molded-to-your-foot fit?
The Empire’s inimitable fit is finished off with an adjustable SuperNatural Fit Kit. It allows you to fine-tune support to where your feet need it the most. Additionally, it was constructed with X-Static fiber to keep odors at bay.
Combining the classic look of a lace-up with modern cycling shoe technology, the Pearl Izumi Tour Road Cycling Shoe offers versatile performance at a price that won’t leave a dent in your bank account. The supportive nylon composite sole integrates a stiff carbon plate at the ball of the foot to maximize power transfer, with the flexibility to run either 2-bolt SPD or 3-bolt SPD-SL cleats to suit all of your cycling endeavors. The fully bonded seamless upper construction creates a slipper like fit that is highly adjustable thanks to the traditional lacing system, and an additional set of laces is included in the box so you can choose between subtle styling or colorful pop.
Previous to the release of its range-topping Shot shoe, the Wire was Sidi’s top dog. Recently updated, and borrowing some technology from the Shot, the new Wire 2 Carbon Speedplay Cycling Shoe receives a slightly narrower instep strap and a relocation of the lower dial to the tongue helping to improve fit and comfort while bridging the gap to the Shot. These latest Wire Speedplay shoes continue the legacy of this venerable Italian shoe brand that’s graced the feet of multiple Grand Tour winners.
Sidi shoes are well renowned for its comfort and stiffness, but Sidi hasn’t attained its dominance by resting on laurels and leaving innovation for its competitors. While many shoe brands will outsource it’s dial closures to BOA, the Wire 2 utilizes Sidi’s own Techno 3 dial. Most notably, it allows for adjustments of each of the shoe’s instep and forefoot buckles and is significantly more intuitive and easier to do while in the saddle. Loosening each buckle is a simple affair — you can pinch both buttons on either side of the buckle to unwind the line closure, or you can toggle each button for extremely precise incremental adjustment. Tightening the shoe should also be familiar: just open the buckle’s switch and wind the buckle. Sidi uses a supple, low-friction, line material to keep the buckle action smooth. Not only does the Techno 3 make the shoe’s overall aesthetic even cleaner, but it also allows for an even greater degree of micro adjustability and fit consistency across the entire shoe. This ensures that you get the perfect fit every single time you buckle up for a ride. And for those who prefer as snug a fit as possible, the shoe’s Soft Instep Closure System has generous padding for supreme comfort with tight buckles.
Sole duties are handled by the Vent Carbon Sole, complete with a replaceable, polyurethane heel pad to improve walkability, and a replaceable, integrated toe pad/vent cover. The sole isn’t only impressive because of its efficient power transfer, thanks to its light weight and stiffness, it also aids in all-weather comfort. Using integrated vent and air channels, it allows for exhausting pent-up heat as well as increasing air flow. The vent can be opened in the summer to keep your feet cool and closed during those long base mile winter days. Sidi paid special attention to the layup of the carbon fiber and it features opposing angles that maximize stiffness while allowing for a small degree of controlled flex in the toe area. According to Sidi, this carefully designed flex biomechanically relieves stress on the plantar tendon and helps promote circulation.
Also returning from previous top-shelf offerings is Sidi’s vastly improved Heel Security System (or HSS) to keep your foot positively planted in the shoe. By means of a small Allen key, it’s an adjustable, rigid composite band that closes the shoe more securely over your heel to anchor it in place around your Achilles. So, no matter how much power you’re pouring into the pedals, your heel will stay in place inside the shoe. It’s a detail that allows you to cinch down the straps of your shoes less tightly — giving you more comfort along with more security.
With a degree of engineered flex in the Carbon Sole and a secure and slip-free heel, you won’t have to worry about hot spots. And you don’t have to worry about heat in the rest of your feet, either, with the Wire’s combination of Techpro Microfiber and ballistic mesh — giving you comfort, fit and durability.
The Sidi Wire Speedplay Shoes are available in the color Matte Black and in whole and half sizes between 41.0 to 47.0 along with a size 48.0. Please note that these shoes are designed for use with the Speedplay cleat system and come supplied with the Speedplay cleat protectors. We also offer the Wire shoes in 3-hole cleat compatibility.
If you’re into the kind of winter bikepacking and dark-side-of-the-moon-cold commuting that warrants the protection of Louis Garneau’s Klondike Mountain Bike Shoe for Men, then you probably already understand that cycling in these temperatures is only possible when myriad details align. Fair weather cycling is easy, because you may be a little under- or overdressed, but the temperate conditions mean the worst you’ll experience is some slight discomfort. But when the temperature falls, the stakes rise dramatically.
The Klondike rises with them, though, as its primary material is a water- and wind-resistant 1680-denier Cordura nylon. While it’s not waterproof, it is equal to almost anything shy of riding your bike into a lake, and if you do that in winter, you’ve got bigger problems to worry about. The neoprene cuff, of course, is waterproof, and it’s accompanied by silicone elastic. Battening down the hatches with the zip fly and hook-and-loop closure all but guarantees the elements won’t be able to find any weak spots in your winter armor.
While Cordura and neoprene keep the outside out, 400g of 3M’s Thinsulate insulation helps keep the inside in. This specifically relates to warmth, though, as the insulation’s breathable qualities let moisture vapor escape as your microclimate warms up, and even if the Thinsulate does somehow get damp, it shares wool’s ability to maintain warmth in the presence of moisture. The theme of insulation continues to the insole, which is reinforced with three layers of body warmth preservation to block the chill emanating from the frozen road or trail.
Despite the obvious focus on warmth and weather-protection, the Klondike is still a cycling shoe and Louis Garneau is still one of the biggest names in cycling gear. Given those two facts, it’s hardly a surprise that the Klondike’s Vibram outsole balances winter functionality with pedal compatibility. The BOA IP1 dial is also a saddle-friendly addition that any winter cyclist will recognize from the warm day s of summer, and—though it won’t make the seasons change any faster—the Klondike’s high-volume EEE last provides space for thick sock layering in order to keep winter’s effect on your feet to a minimum. In the event that conditions are approaching winter-lake severity, the Klondike incorporates an attachment ring for anchoring any of LG’s separately sold gaiters.

Building on the foundation of the proven Rascal trail shoe, the Ion Rascal Select Mountain Bike Shoe offers elevated stiffness and more durable Kevlar uppers, boosting performance across the board for aggressive trail riding and enduro racing. The SupTraction rubber sole features a stiffer internal shank for improved power transfer on tough climbs, but retains a bit of torsional flex to ensure you have comfortable control over the bike in tight corners and tricky descents. The tread itself is constructed with specific zones for pedaling and hiking, ensuring maximum control on the bike, and plenty of grip when you have to do some hiking.
The Rascal Select’s uppers are infused with heavy-duty Kevlar, providing rugged durability that resists impacts and abrasion season after season. The Airprene Gaiter conforms to your ankle, keeping out dirt and debris when you’re shredding through loose terrain while ensuring breathability during hotter sessions. The fit is secured by the Serpen_Tie 2.0 closure, offering the adjustability of laces with the added security of a hook-and-loop instep strap. Inside the shoe you’ll find a pre-shaped heel with generous padding, along with a comfortable and supportive Ortholite Eco Plush insole to absorb the harshness of bigger hits.
